I had a mixed experience at Liliha Bakery. My first visit to the bakery counter was disappointing. The workers were not very welcoming, and they served another customer before me instead of following the ticket system. On my second visit, they were using the ticket system properly, so hopefully the first experience was just a one time issue. The Poi donuts are gorgeous and delicious, worth trying. The cream puffs tasted like they were a day old. The restaurant side was a much better experience. The service was friendlier, and the food was enjoyable. The table rolls are absolutely ono and definitely worth trying. I ordered the loco moco, which was good but a bit too salty for my taste. The mushroom chicken, however, was excellent and ended up being my favorite dish. Liliha Bakery was on a lot of people's must-try lists, so we put it on ours. We came here for lunch and were seated outside. What was interesting was how many birds were trying to come and steal your food from the table! Be aware of that. Service was good, food was alright. I ordered a noodle dish with shrimp in it. We actually didn't plan to do dinner. I was told by many that the baked goods here were something special and worth trying. Knowing me, I was most interested in the dessert, but we ended up dining here on a whim. We had really great service when we dined in. I ordered the oxtail soup because I hadn't had it before, which fulfills my rule of trying new foods when I can. It was tasty, with a unique spice blend reminiscent of other beef soups I've had in the past. However, I was particularly wowed however by the complementary bread and raspberry jam. Call me simple, but the bread was actually the star of the show for me, perfectly soft and buttery. The location in Waikiki is perhaps a clear reminder that it is a tourism city. Table for 11 the morning after the 4th of July without a reservation? What, like it's hard? You can't make reservations here, but they do have an iPad that you can be added to their waitlist. Even though it was rather busy, we were seated within 10-ish minutes and got their biggest table outside. And right next to their butter roll grill- score! We had 11 people including kids and teenagers and there's really something on the menu for everyone here. Even my picky nephew was able to find a milkshake and add an egg to their ham and cheese croissant. I got their mahi mahi breakfast and upgraded to get their fried rice. Mahi mahi might not sound like a breakfast food for most, but it's one of my favs that I used to get from their OG location and I hadn't had it in so long. And that's the best thing about Liliha Bakery, there are so many local favorites that you can get any time of day. My mom got the oxtail soup (I got a bit of plate fomo from that). Having awesome experience at the Pearl City Liliha and in love with their butter mochi, we made a come back to the Waikiki one for the savory food. It was a nicer space that looked newer as well but the service was unfortunately super slow. We needed to call the servers for multiple times before our order was finally picked up and it took awhile before getting our food ready. Then we also weren't given the butter roll until we asked (deep frowned). Fortunately the Loco Moco made it up as it's so filling, the beef hamburg was juicy, and the gravy was well-seasoned with perfectly cooked sunny side up. The Smoked pineapple pork belly I ordered had a bit of a kick but since the flavors were good I ate it all up. Their Mac salad is quite refreshing and the burger was extraordinary. My drink was the best! I could drink a whole pitcher of it in one sitting if it was bottomless refills! So refreshing and just the right amount of sweetness. The first items we grabbed were the French donut (flavorless - would not recommend) and the onion bread (good but a little dry). Liliha Bakery is on the top floor of the International Marketplace (gorgeous seating areas, feels like you're at the treetop level). The bakery is modern and very beautiful with an outdoor patio. We stopped by to take some pastries to go. Their cream puffs are popular so we tried both the green tea and coco puffs. The green tea cream puff was light and airy. The perfect mix of sweet cream with a hint of salt. The coco puff was a classic chocolate cream puff, but nothing that special. We also tried one of their mochi bites which was the perfect chewy texture. The one item that I wouldn't recommend was the lilikoi malasada. I'm not sure if we got an older malasada, but the breading tasted like a dry cake donut. The filling tasted nothing of lilikoi unfortunately. Wouldn't recommend as compared to other malasada spots in Waikiki. Overall would come again for the cream puffs and possibly to try one of their breakfast dishes. read more

The display looked very appealing, so we picked several items: Green Tea Croissant, Dubai Chocolate Croissant, Coconut Danish, Dubai Chocolate Coco Puff, and Guava Cream Cheese Strudel. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. All of the pastries were overwhelmingly sweet to the point that it was difficult to taste the individual flavors. Everything had a similar sugary profile, which took away from what should have been distinct items. The texture and freshness were also lacking. The pastries were soft in a soggy way rather than light and flaky. They tasted like pre-made pastries you might find packaged at a grocery store rather than freshly baked. I really enjoyed the Hawaiian BLT. It caught my eye on the menu because it had pineapple in the sandwich. I had to remove the sprouts because it was too much for me. The bread was like a croissant, but it wasn't flaky. It was soft and didn't get soggy. The Mahi Mahi plate was good too, not much to say about it. Wish the corn that came with it was crunchy! We visited Liliha Bakery at the International Market Place in Waikīkī yesterday. The food was absolutely delicious and definitely lived up to the hype! Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. Our waitress seemed to be having a rough day. The table behind us had to send food back three different times because they kept receiving the wrong orders, and there was about a 30-minute period where our server completely disappeared. We had to ask another staff member for our check and to-go boxes. She also never came back to check on our table or refill our water. Everyone has off days, so we're hoping that's all it was. Those were delicious, so much so that a couple of days later, we made a point of coming here. We visited here very early breakfast and there wasn't a wait! This was maybe about 8AM and there were plenty of tables available. Most people were sitting outside in the patio. We had the rolls to start off with along with their signature jam? It was very nice! Most of us also ordered their signature loco moco, and a fried chicken plate, and mac nut waffles. The portions are pretty huge! It's very filling and I honestly was only able to eat half of it. The loco moco was very nice, although I wish the gravy was a bit more flavorful, but it was pretty decent overall. The fried chicken was also pretty nice, very crispy! We came here 8 months ago and not having good services by this lady here but my kids like the food here so we come back again. We order some dishes and a bowl of oxygen tail soup. It came out very fast but it is a small bowl so I order another bowl. We finished our lunch about 30 minutes and that soup still haven't come out so we ask the service man to bring us the bill and make sure to cancel the soup. 5 minutes later, this lady came and told us that we have to pay for the soup because we order it and because the restaurant very crowded so it taking 15-20 minutes to make it but we were there more then half an hour and this place is emtpty. We don't want to make a big scenes so we pay for it and left. Later the service guy apologized to us and told us that she is the manager here. She must be the greedy owner. This is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Honolulu! Their Loco Moco with fried rice is tasty and on point. Their burger patty is pretty thick with a nice charred taste. The garlic fried rice pairs beautifully with both the steak and gravy. Just pour some Tabasco for some extra heat and vinegar taste. My favorite though, is their Mac Nut Waffard!! The Mac nut waffle with creamy custard is a hit. These are unique and one of the best breakfast items I've ever had, hands down. The custard is house made, thick, creamy and rich. The best custard you'll taste. I want to go back just for this item alone. Don't forget their complimentary butter bread with guava jelly! These are buttery and fluffy. I love the original and Nimitz locations. Love the hectic ambiance and great food and bakery. The Waikiki location last week just didn't work for me. I'm happy to see a local business thriving but I hope they can improve their customer flow. The baked goods looked as inviting as always but they seemed a day-old or something. The butter horn was hard and not flaky as I've come to expect and the chocolate of the Boston Creme donut wasn't creamy. They may wish to consider: 1, Clearly delineating the line for the restaurant from the bakery. It was super busy for both so there was a lot of confusion. 2. Perhaps placing the number machine for the bakery closer to the door? Tourists aren't familiar with the system so it leads to some unnecessary dissatisfaction. 3. The staff had to leave the counter to get coffee - hot or iced. The condiments for the coffee were on the showcase so people had to be in everyone's way to get their sugar and cream. In fact, if you were standing near the door you had to go through people waiting in line back into the establishment to get those items. But, with all this, the two ladies at the counter were remarkably composed and helpful. read more

Visiting Oahu for my Hubby's bday this weekend and i ordered my usual go to (yesterday), the smoked pork belly, and it turns out, the meat was super tough and the portion was def smaller than what i recall from the other times we have visited in the past. As shown on the pic, din't really get to eat it because it was so tough, i had to eat a couple of fried chicken from Hubby's order . I addressed this to our server Michael and all he said was "i'm so sorry..." and i guess, didn't care to offer any other resolution as he can see from my plate, i didn't get to enjoy my order. We randomly found this cafe and noticed they're famous for their mochi donuts and cream puffs. Located on the third floor of a mall, the spot offers both dine-in and takeout from their bakery. Founded in 1950 as a bakery and coffee shop in Honolulu, Liliha Bakery expanded to this location in Wakiki in 2021. It's a full service restaurant with a large bakery case in the front, and a large indoor and outdoor dining space, taking advantage of the 3rd floor restaurant space in the International Market Place. It serves Hawaiian favorites, and was our lunch spot for our group of four when visiting Honolulu on a port day. The food was good, tasty and satisfying. One checks in via a digital tablet, and my wife's name was called within 5 minutes for seating if OK with indoor seating. We relearned how restaurants in Hawaii serve big portions, so this time, we ordered two plates to share. Waffle & Chicken Karaag ($20.95) which was quite good. It had been divided into 4 equal portions, with a decent syrup on the side. My wife's mother has really grown to love chicken and waffles...the combination really works for her. Oxtail soup ($27.95) with saiman (+$1.95) , came with two scoops of rice. Had two large pieces of thick oxtail and didn't skimp by giving us end pieces. The broth was excellent, rich but not too greasy, and adding the saiman was a pro move. I wish the oxtail had been cooked slightly longer to make it fall off the bone, but understand why that could be difficult for a fast moving dish. Coffee Float $12.95 - medium size cup of coffee with ice cream. I took a sip and was surprised that it was warm. My wife liked it though. Payment was done at the table, and our service throughout was good. Before we left, I made a separate purchase of 3 cream puffs ($3.49 each). Honestly, these pancakes make me downright weepy. Liliha has perfected their batter. It's malty and sweet, and cooks up light and fluffy in the middle. And the gang on the grill know how to fire these things so the outer rim gets a nice little crust while the inside stays cakey. Coffee and water stayed full the whole time. When you first walk in they have the bakery area and everything looks so good. If you keep walking you'll find the host stand where you can put your name in.
