    Biscuits & Gravy with Sausage
    Suri S.

We ordered the Biscuits and Gravy with Sausage, since I was craving some Southern food. Unfortunately this place was a miss for me. On the high note, the biscuits were crispy and buttery and the sausage was decent but sparse. On the low note, the gravy was under-seasoned and tasted bland to me which made the whole plate quite underwhelming. Maybe an off day, but we probably won't be back.

While walking in Waikiki, we made a wrong turn, which brought our stroll to Duke's for breakfast into quite the hike. My crew and I happened upon the little gem. It's small and quaint, both indoors and out. The mood is utterly Hawaiian. Very chill and pleasant. The staff is so kind. The food was good. We got to celebrate and chat outside with others enjoying their birthdays on the isle too.

I was looking for breakfast with some substance bc I had a longgg day ahead of me. Ended up landing on sunny's and I'm so glad I did. Their menu contains a lot of the classic breakfast type plates w a local twist, but all along my eyes were set on a slamming breaky burrito, which is what I got. You see those pictures big dawg. That's their breakfast burrito w some good ol pordugee sausage sheeeesh. GAS STATION yall. Throw some chili pepper watah or whatever hot sauce. Gollllly. Now idk if this was a one off but when I went there was a modest line that was moving a bit slowly. But I mean, one wahine was working solo and taking orders, making coffees, serving food. I felt bad for her! She killed it tho. Go show some love.

    Kimchi fried rice
    Keanna W.

Sunny's Local Grind in Honolulu was very satisfying overall. The kimchi fried rice was flavorful and the portion was perfect. Very filling and satisfying without feeling too heavy. The steak sammie was really good. It almost complements a Philly cheesesteak in how the steak was cut and prepared, with peppers and cheese, but it definitely stood out on its own. The steak was cooked perfectly and the bread was soft and buttery, which made the whole sandwich come together really well. The banana bread latte the first time we had it was just okay, but on our second visit it was very good and had a great balance of all the flavors. The matcha was just okay. I sweetened it with vanilla, and only after swirling the drink did the vanilla come through--and even then, only temporarily--before it went back to tasting like flavorless green milk. Overall, the food is solid, filling, and satisfying. I'd definitely come back for the kimchi fried rice and steak sammie, but I'd skip the matcha next time.

Well dang. That was really good. Had the Trashcan Scramble on tater tots. That was really enjoyable. Good size plate. Service was great too.

Loved this place. Food was delicious and came out so fresh. We had to wait a bit for a food but it was worth the wait. I would definitely recommend this spot. The fresh lemonade was very refreshing. I also love the local art displayed on the walls of the shop.

This is a tiny little place off the beaten path in Waikiki. It's well known with the locals but you can find tourists there as well. It only seats maybe 10 people, but they deliver to a local bar down the road (Suzi Wong's...equally off the beaten path). The food at Sunny's is excellent. The moco loco and biscuits and gravy are some of the best we have had. The servers are friendly and work their butts off, so tip them well.

Taste: 4/5 Value: 4/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Very nice spot to stop for breakfast! I'm usually not a coffee drinker but decided to get one here and I ended up loving it! My burrito was tasty and a decent size, something I'd consider ordering again. We were lucky to snag indoor seating during our visit, but space is limited since it's a small shop. Fortunately, there's outdoor seating nearby as well. The decor was charming and has local artwork. Very welcoming vibes from the interior and staff.

    Brekkie burrito with Portuguese sausage
    Kanani C.

Went there for lunch on a Saturday. Awesome time, as there was no line and lots of seats. But also no biscuits and gravy. Fairly easy to find street parking. I could see how this place would be super busy in the morning, as the inside only seats about 8-10 people, while outside maybe 20 but you brave the weather and birds. Great service. Tried their garden omelet with wheat toast, breakfast burrito with Portuguese sausage, hot latte, and freshly squeezed lemonade. Im glad their food is not salty, but then it does need ketchup or something. The omelet and burrito tasted like what we'd make at home. Very comforting. Great knife skills, as everything was cut up into little pieces. Latte good but lemonade taste like they used the squeeze bottle lemon juice, so quite tart.

A slight trek from central Waikiki, this little patio cafe is worth it. They serve such a wide variety of breakfast stables and they do it well. It is pretty small and I wish it had more indoor seating especially on a hot day like when I went but there is a fair amount of covered outdoor bench seating and two very small outdoor tables. They leave the door open to the cafe and what fan they do have doesn't fully cover the tables inside so it's hard to escape the heat. The sunrise tea is very tart and the banana bread latte was pretty weak flavor wise (tasted nothing like banana bread) but the coffee itself was strong. My mom enjoyed her avocado toast although $11 is a little steep for 1 slice of toast. The brekkie burrito is stuuuffed to the brim with bacon, pico de gallo, tater tots, egg, bell peppers, and onions, and was an explosion of flavor.

    Loco moco!

Amazing, delicious, quick, friendly. We walked up to Aloha Cafe from our hotel to find it was fully packed with a line out the door waiting to be seated. We walked 350 feet further and found Sunny's Local Grind where we were able to walk right up and order! They have an amazing looking assortment of pastries, a solid menu, and legit coffee! My vanilla latte was very delicious alongside the loco moco. They have a small amount of seating inside and some nice seating under an awning outside which is where we sat and enjoyed! I love a successful accidental find and recommend that everyone waiting in line to Aloha Cafe walk on down to Sunny's! You won't be disappointed!

Ube Latte and Haupia Coconut Latte
    Leira S.

While looking for a local restaurant to enjoy a morning latte, but were heavily persuaded by the Loco Moco previously (and highly) reviewed here on yelp. What we ordered: Breakfast Burrito - The textures of all ingredients were gracefully balanced. When a breakfast burrito has tater tots it's always a good sign!!!! Loco Moco w/ Pork Belly Burnt Ends - The gravy is hands down some of the best i've EVER had. Alongside the tender pork belly with a sunny side up egg, was IMPECCABLE. Ube Latte - Rich in flavor in the best way possible. Haupia Coconut Latte - I love receiving a latte that's perfectly balanced with coffee notes and sweetness, for my it's been a really hard thing to find and this place nails it.

    Ube latte Haupia latte
    Jade S.

We came in the morning and there was a constant line. The lady was taking our order was making the drinks as well. She was very quick and efficient! We ordered the ube and haupia latte which she said were the 2 most popular drinks. The haupia was delicious and flavorful but I would've liked a little more of the syrup as once it all mixed together it lost some of the haupia flavor but was still good. I like my coffees pretty sweet. The ube latte was a little more mild in flavor and not as sweet as the haupia but still yummy! Only a few tables for dining and tight space inside. But she so quick with our drinks we were in and out.

Bathrooms are not assigned which I'm sure can get gross, but is great to not have to wait for just the women's. Prime rib sandwich came with salad and au jus sauce and a side of salad. It's good but also very filling. I didn't try the burger or teriyaki chicken but was told both were delicious. After dinner, we ordered a few items from the bakery to eat on the plane. You have to take a number and wait for them to call it. It was so sad this business is closing down by Oct 31st. With rising food costs, inflation and…read morestaffing, it's understandable but I wish best endeavors for Chef Jason Peel and his staff. My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

The staff were friendly and very helpful with giving us recommendations. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, and honestly it was too much food for us. We had leftovers for breakfast the next day! - For appetizers we got: Ulu Tots, Japanese Eggplant, and Corn Beignets. The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.
