Was devastated when Kulu Kulu at Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center closed in late February 2026. Come to find out, their 10 year lease came to an end. Their other location of Shirokiya Village Walk in Ala Moana closed abruptly during the start of COVID in March 2020 and sadly never reopened. That means the only Kulu Kulu is at Eaton Square conveniently located on the first floor. This Kulu Kulu store opened in 2013 and still going strong. We recently came here to capitalize on their 14th anniversary special with 8 assorted sweets for $27.50 (originally valued at $55) for a limited period of 3 days from 10/23/26 to 10/25/26. I originally was planning on getting a red velvet cake for my sister's birthday but consulted with the fam and decided on this anniversary special plus 4 of their famous Diamond Head Puffs, offered at BOGO deal. We ended getting several of their anniversary specials to give away to others and a box. After our dinner, we asked the staff who kept it chilled from when we arrived at the restaurant and were in awe of the attention and detail and precision. Crowd favorites were the mango mousse cake and Japanese cheesecake. Their Diamond Head puffs don't disappoint. So perfectly shaped with a firm exterior and center generously filled with cream. Some may think the cakes here are pricey but the quality and flavors justify. I personally enjoy the nama chocolate and eye stunning rainbow cake. I'm still glad we get to enjoy Kulu Kulu and even a super plus when they have their anniversary special. Congratulations for celebrating another year and looking forward to my next visit. read more

What an amazing bakery. They actually did my wedding cake (hidden in image for privacy) And it's in my opinion the best strawberry shortcake on island. Ala Moana location - closed. Royal Hawaiian Shopping center location - closed. This is the only standing Kulu Kulu and I hope this place does not close, or if it does relocate, come closer to Central Oahu where the rent is cheaper, haha (hint). This location is on the outer edges of Waikiki on Hobron Lane in Eaton Square. I rarely venture to Waikiki, and if I do make the dreaded drive to "town", this place and Kan Sushi will be the only regular places where I will make my stop(s), because its so worth it. I've had a long-standing love-affair with Kulu Kulu from the Shirokiya Food Court location with it's waffle bears and Hello Kitty waffles, the takeout Nama Chocolate cups stocked at Mitsuwa Marketplace and now here, in town. The Ube Coconut Mousse $6.95 blew our minds, it was THE best tasting thing, ever. Both the ube and the coconut were not cloying, and as with all of their treats, not overly sweet either. That's why I love Japanese pastries, they get the sweetness just perfect and I have no idea how they mastermind that ratio! Strawberry Panna Cotta $5.95 was creamy, flavorful, delicious and surprisingly light and refreshing for such a creamy dessert. I normally don't get this kind of combination of flavors, and it tasted like something you'd get in a Michellin-rated establishment. Looking back at the photos, I see vanilla bean seeds in the panna cotta, so every loving detail and nuance shows through with each mouthful. Nama Chocolate $5.75 is my go-to chocolate LOVE. It's cut into cool creamy semi-sweet squares dusted with cocoa and it melts in your mouth! This is my favorite of all things that Kulu Kulu makes. I actually enjoy this better than the famous Royce Chocolates from Japan. We ordered another seasonal Strawberry dessert slice cake but it was eaten before I could review (and/or taste it); I've heard it was very very delicious. This place is so good that I plan to bring my friends who will be visiting from Virginia here to try their pastries. Jamie W and I have stayed at the Prince Waikīkī three times, so we've gotten to know the immediate neighborhood pretty well. One of our favorite dives is Suzie Wong's Hideaway, and after downing a couple of tropical libations, we strolled back to the hotel and couldn't help but stop at this Japanese-style bakery. It was quite inviting and reminded me of the multiple bakeries you'd find in Ginza. All my favorites were on display - strawberry shortcake, custard cream puffs, lilikoi tarts, seasonal roll cakes, even coconut macadamia nut eclairs - though keep in mind we were kinda snockered, so we could've wolfed down everything. Have tried Kulu Kulu several times through friends but this was my first time going to a store. It was cute and the staff helping were polite and fast. I tried the Noble Chocolate cake, the double cream puff, and the souffle cheesecake. The chocolate cake was one of my favorites! Not too sweet, rich chocolate flavor, with interesting layers and textures. A must try for chocolate lovers. The souffle cheesecake was perfect also, not too sweet, super light, with excellent cheesy flavor. I gave the cream puff away to a friend but she told me it was delicious. Overall 5/5. Kulu Kulu has always been one of my family's favorite places for cakes because their cakes are consistently moist, delicious, and not overly sweet. We used to go to the Royal Hawaiian location until it closed down. Recently, we ordered a strawberry shortcake, a chocolate cake, and a rainbow cake for my grandma's birthday celebration. Everyone at the party enjoyed the cakes a lot, especially the strawberry shortcake. It was our first time trying cakes from this location, and I'm glad that the cake quality is as good as the Royal Hawaiian location. I ordered these desserts on UberEats. But I am a long time customer of Kulukulu and thought it deserved a review on my recent dessert experience. Tokyo Cake: Fluffy cake. Soft whipped cream. Wished there was more whip cream. And a strawberry coated in sugar it seems. Baked Cheese Bar: Hands down, could eat 5 of these one after the other. It's not too sweet and evenly seasoned with salt is how I can describe. Inside is soft. Almost a cake but moist enough to know it's not. So good. Strawberry Tiramisu: Love how this rendition of tiramisu. It tastes like strawberry dessert is all I cake say lol. I enjoyed the little chocolate flower. Don't chomp down too hard on the tiny pearl sugar candy. I recommend this place if you need to satisfy a sweet tooth. Over the years I've tried many of their desserts. Never disappoints. I believe these were seasonal but that just means I need to come every season to not miss out. I love reminiscing about these desserts! Very disappointing experience. We came in excited to order a birthday cake, but the staff had a not friendly attitude the whole time. They couldn't clearly explain the flavors, and the ordering instructions were confusing. The worst part was the hidden charges. When picking up the cake, we were told an ice pack costs $10 and ice is $1 each. We ended up paying $16 extra, while the cake itself was only around $45. About a 1-1.5: kulu kulu is a small Japanese dessert shop that is located in Eaton Square; they also have a location as part of the Royal Hawaiian's food court. I picked up a couple of their seasonal items, as they looked super cute: +the Jack o' Lantern - a pumpkin cream puff +a Franken Stein - a matcha raspberry oreo Unfortunately, these were just not good. The puff itself was soggy, and there wasn't any pumpkin flavor in the cream; the consistency of the cream was also off, and not as fluffy and light as it was expected. The Franken Stein had a weird, goopy exterior, and there was hardly any raspberry filling; the matcha didn't taste good, almost bitter-like. They were both tossed. Been going to kulu kulu and getting their cakes since they were in the original shirokya location. The strawberry shortcake has stayed consistent the whole time. Eaton Square is a bit out of the way but definitely worth it. There is a public parking garage at the intersection of hobron ln and lipeepee st. If you make a $10 purchase they will give you a 30 minute free parking validation. Once you park your car you head up the stairwell in the middle and go to the door that says commercial lobby. Got my birthday cake from here and am so happy I did. I ordered their 6" soufflé cheesecake with a design. Of course I chose my favorite character which is gudetama. At first I had problems with my order which I came to pick up the cake and there was no image on it. But they got that fixed and add the image no problem. I am devastated they no longer have the Hello Kitty waffles with dipping creams. Apparently they stopped selling this signature item back in April 2021. I knew I should have gone sooner but ever since their Shirokiya location closed at Ala Moana during the pandemic, I never wanted to brave the parking and traffic situation in Waikiki. Sidebar: I don't care for the Hello Kitty aspect (although a cute added touch) but the fact that I really enjoyed these waffle bites with the dips!!!! They also had a mochi waffle version and some of the waffles were also filled with cream cheese or strawberry jam etc. Let's petition to bring these back! *crying Anyway, I was having a horrible day yesterday and decided I deserved a sweet treat! Found myself at the Hobron Lane location easily with free metered parking (after 5:30pm). They had run out of a lot of items - downside to going so late..ordered a souffle cheesecake an chocolate cream puff. I was contemplating the strawberry shortcake square slice but the slices have gotten smaller and cost 5.99! Not best bang for your buck but I do like their version a bit better than la palme d'or. Both are pretty stellar anyway. Chocolate cream puff was waaay better than the last time I've had it! Better crust that isn't too soft or stale. Shu cream filling that is slightly thick but not quite pudding-like. I'm not a fan of souffle cheesecake (I like NY Junior's version or good old Cheesecake Factory Godiva Chocolate - mmmmm) so this one was for someone else. However when I did try it, I was pleasantly surprised! It was pretty much the best souffle cheesecake I've had. Having never tried Uncle Tetsu's (secretly, I might have but didn't really remember it?). I really like the plaza here (Eaton Square) and will probably come back again for the cakes and cream puffs (wish they had more diverse variety of flavors because they're definitely making these right!), the nearby Food Pantry for reasonably priced hot lunches and baked goods, and Komedokoro for small bites! I've been to all three of their locations with Ala Moana being my favorite. The one at Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center comes in second, with this location being last. This locations just feels small and cramped with nowhere to sit. Fortunately, the cakes tastes the same at all the locations. My two favorites are the chestnut cake and strawberry shortcake. Their cakes aren't overly sweet, because it's made with fresh cream instead of buttercream. I have noticed that their cakes have shrunk in size somewhat. I took three bites and the piece of cake was gone. The Royal Hawaiian and Eaton Square locations are currently open. The one at Shirokiya Ala Moana is closed until further notice. read more
