Hot Hawaiian Honey and iced Blue Lagoon Latte with turkey croissant and salami trio sandwiches
    Edith S.

I have been watching way too many S Korea cafe hopping videos but won't be traveling for a bit. But then I thought, we have cafes here at home and found a cluster of them in the Ward area. Our first stop was Dean and Deluca. Love the tea time option in Waikiki but I'm local and try to avoid the area. So after some research we ended up parking at Ward Center and making it a shopping trip as well. Turned on Google Maps to find Dean and Deluca. Only 6 mins. At 12 pm, we walked by the long line at the bakery, past the local plate lunch restaurant, made a left turn by Whole Foods behind the movie theater parking lot. Cross the little street, up the ramp, made a left turn at the end of the walkway to find Dean and Deluca. Several filled cafe tables are available on the outside this cute little store. Looked over the sandwiches, pasta, baked goods in the casing and finally decided on the iced blue lagoon latte and salami sandwich while sister got a hot honey tea and half a turkey sandwich. The blue lagoon latte looked so beautiful and was really good too. Not too sweet, but just right. Sister's hot tea was tasty as well and not sweet at all. Nothing special about the sandwiches. However, I did learn a few days later it was restaurant week and that Dean and Deluca participated. Their offering was the shrimp pasta and salad. When I think back, they ran out of salad. Had we known, I would have gotten the pasta. We were able to get a table outside. The day was cool and breezy. Very comfortable. You can watch the staff working in the kitchen. However, there are tables under the windows so as not to bother the other patrons, I wasn't able to admire the staffs skill set. My sister did go back in and ordered the Dulce de Tres leche. So this was interesting. My sister and I shared it and was trying to cut through the cookie cup and was confused because tres leche is supposed to be drenched in sweetened milk. When we were able to see the inside of the dessert, there was the tres leche and it was really good. Wish it was larger. So the tres leche is like a tart. Cookie cup on the outside, tres lech on the inside. The restroom is shared with the other businesses in this condo building. There's a sign in the cafe providing the code. Super bright and clean. After our relaxing little brunch, we browsed the items in the store. They have super cute items including coffee and espresso cups as well as single serve ramekins. Fairly priced. They also have Hawaii made coffees and teas. Although a brief encounter, the staff was members were very sweet. A very good start to the day.

Ube matcha latte and Hawaiian salt caramel latte
    Hailley O.

Dean & Deluca is kinda hidden away in the back of the Ko'ula building. When we found it, we thought it was such a cute and bright coffee shop! We got the Hawaiian salt caramel latte and the ube matcha latte. Both were pretty good! My Hawaiian salt caramel latte had a strong coffee flavor and I think I do remember it being a little salty as well but still drinkable. My boyfriend enjoyed his ube matcha latte. The ube wasn't too overpowering which was nice! This visit was a while ago and from what I remembered, the prices were ok/decent like from your typical coffee shop in town. Their pastry case looked good!

Yummy! We stopped in after the farms market to grab a couple sweets for the road. The store was super clean and aesthetically pleasing. The pastries were just amazing looking. Love the merch section. We enjoyed our picks, I was a little let down by the matcha cake, it was dry and lacking in flavor. Everything else was great. If you have a chance swing by grab a treat and coffee. It is worth it!!!

Tried "Take Vert Yame Matcha" cake. This is one of special cakes for "Taste of Ward." This is beautiful and taste is delicately sweet with a sprinkle of sea salt. I would say this is an ultimate cake for an adult (the price is also for an adult:$10) Btw this Yame Matcha is the name for upscale green tea from Fukuoka prefecture. I really hope Dean and Deluca continues to sell this cake after the Taste of Ward...please

    Matcha & mocha latte

This is a nice, good quality, outdoor bakery/cafe in Kakaako kind of across from Wholefood. It is inside one of the new high rise condo and I don't know the name. Personally I'm not a matcha drinker but my companion wasn't too happy with the undissolved matcha powder. On the flip side, I was happy with the iced mocha latte. I did ask for less sweet and it was perfect for me. I also liked their cheesecake. I think it's more like a Japanese style. Also very light and moist. The second dessert we got was some kind of brownie and that was just okay. Lots of merchandise, other pastries and sandwiches are available. Several staff behind the counter but it took awhile for us to get our drinks and service was pretty laid back.

I've been coming to my beloved Dean & Deluca in Kakaako since they first opened. As usual, I ordered their amazing canelé--one of the very few places that made them properly. Delicious! Unfortunately, I was told they no longer produce them. I understand; making canelé requires a special skill set that few have, and it's a time-consuming process. I moved on to their beautiful croissant, which had always perfectly complemented my canelé and black coffee a few times a week. To my surprise, the croissant was about a quarter smaller than the ones I've enjoyed over the last 50 visits. Coincidentally, I was at their Waikiki location just last week and decided against picking up a croissant because I noticed it was much smaller than the ones at Kakaako. I've asked the staff at the Kakaako location and they acknowledged they looked smaller too. Now I'm wondering--has there been a company-wide shift to making smaller croissants? Hmm. The staff continues to be absolutely amazing as usual. Bravo!

Amazing shopping, eating and spa relaxation here at Ko'ula shops. New and exciting restaurants and shops here. Tonkatsu Kuro, OnKee Korean Grill House, Dean & Deluca, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, Happy Lemon and the experimental sushi restaurant Nori Bar, to name a few. Free parking at the Ward Entertainment Center. Or Whole Foods Market complex. A must try for foodies and Yelpers. See you soon!

    Cheese crisp. Perfect savory treat

Enjoyed my visit to Dean and DeLuca Kaka'ako with a few of my friends. While meandering in the store I was offered a sample of the in-store milled baguette served warm with melted butter. It was soooo good! Will definitely consider getting in the future. The displays were nicely presented. The electronic board featured a Yama Sencha iced tea which I immediately ordered. Looking for a savory snack I happily grabbed the last cheese bite. Perfect snack for the morning. The iced tea was so refreshing, enjoyed it the whole day. At 9:30am the customers were lined up. Unfortunately the crew forgot a few of my friends orders. And when they asked about their drink orders they were met with blank stares. No apologies for forgetting. No expediting forgotten drinks. In fact, friend said the manager skipped over her to help the customer behind her? This location has a few service kinks to work out. Observed a fly issue too. Do love the plentiful seating outside. Will look forward to trying again after a little time to see if improved. Located in the new Ward Victoria enclave if shops. Both self parking across the driveway in the theatre parking lot and valet parking is available.

Mont Blanc Those two little words! Dean and Deluca Hawaii makes the best little sweet treat, not too sweet, light and airy... and I love this little spot to stop in for a coffee and this treat! Located in the Kōʻula condominium building at Ward, there is a nice outdoor area to sit and enjoy items from this coffee and tea spot. They have a little retail boutique to purchase a few of their staple products. Parking nearby at Whole Foods or the adjacent movie theater lot.

Teatime in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawaii... Jackie wanted to meet up with Irene and me. She asked for suggestions as to where we could have a chat. Irene brilliantly found Dean & Deluca - Kaka'ako Kouka Store. Located on the ground level of the Koula condominium building, underneath the Onkee Korean Grill House (Restaurant), this third location of Dean & Deluca has some outdoor seating, but beware of the flies - possibly from the nearby park where residents walk their dogs. Service was inconsistent. One of the servers might have a language barrier. It was challenging for her to explain the restroom (around the corner) code to me. The male server was really cheerful and helpful - and even gave a Loyalty Card to Jackie. Irene and I didn't get a card, but we didn't ask... I got the Kame Cold Brewed Sencha which was unsweetened, not bitter, and very refreshing! I also ordered a Strawberry Almond Tarte - it had a nice crust, smooth filling, and fresh strawberries... yummy! We might return again when we're in the area. It was a relaxing environment with the fresh air and slight breeze!

Great spot to catch up... As it was the suggested place to meet Jackie K and Nadine C as this Kaka'ako area is slowly developing with lots of new biz opening in the area surrounded by various condominium one that's still in development fronting the shop as we speak. Parking though is available through between Ward Entertainment area and Whole Foods though getting there from those parking structures can be quite a journey I hope that there would be more easier spots to park. I was excited to see Dean & Deluca in Kaka'ako as this more informal spot is a great place to grab a treat and though there's no seating in the shop there are a few right outside along with a bathroom which I believe you need a code to access. I did get the Hawaiian Soda which comes in various flavors and decided on the Strawberry and decided to pair it with a Raspberry Pistachio Tart. The tart was so yummy and delicious with a firm crust holding all the custard as I grabbed a raspberry with each bite but at $9 it did kinda sting a bit but it paired with my Hawaiian Strawberry Soda perfect as it wasn't too sweet and had just the right flavor to it. Love the vibe and ambiance though the flies are quite annoying and actually the biggest concern for me as I didn't feel like I could relax and enjoy my $9 tart as I engulfed it from the flies lol! The service is amazing with the guy who can over hear my questions answered them instantly since some had some language barrier understandably but really wished they also posted their seasonal items like "Iced Matcha Pumpkin Latte" and "Zesty Orange Mocha Latte" instead of flashing it on the large screen high above the baked goods as it was missed opportunity that I would've loved to give a try. Not totally an organized system they have here with straws above the display case versus the service counter while the napkins and stirs above the trash...all this is fixed it's a great spot to meet your besties. Thank you!

A tiny boutique shop with a few outdoor seats to enjoy purchases. Unlike the shop in the Ritz Waikiki, this one is strictly grab and go. No custom party platters or collaborations with neighboring restaurants yet. Week 2 since opening, 11:30am and they have practically no house made food to sell except... What a baguette!!! Made from in house milled flour. Classic European bread. Very hard and crisp on the outside, chewy, moist crumb inside. Tear this apart rather than using a bread knife. There is less chance of cutting up the roof of your mouth. Great smeared with German butter. Prices are very high as expected. Looking forward to returning and trying more of their European style breads.

We finally got to try their new location in Kaka'ako and we decided to come right after they opened up. Surprisingly, there was quite a bit of line already, although the line moved really fast and most people just wanted to look around their gift shop. The location can be a bit tough to find if you're not familiar with the Ward area. The cafe is located in the corner by the park and just right below Onkee. I love its private and tucked away vibe, so it does not get loud and too crowded. We came with our pup and the staff were very friendly and accommodating! They even gave us 2 pup cups since my dog really seems to love it. We wanted to order their pastries, but it wasn't as complete as the ones in Waikiki and the prices seem a bit expensive. We ended up getting the salted caramel coffee and that did not disappoint! It was really tasty and definitely not overly sweet. There's only a few tables, so you might have to wait for other customers to be done. If you want to relax and enjoy your pastries and coffee peacefully, definitely come by during the weekdays where there is less people. But overall, a very enjoyable experience for us!

This one popped up often on YouTube, and as luck would have it, we were dining at The Pig & The Lady on the next block. How calorifically convenient. We took the opportunity to stop by for a pre-dinner snack since they closed at 6PM. It's a cute shop with multiple sweets including quite a selection of housemade ice cream and delectable mouthfuls called Cake Bombs (Photo 10). We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. I went for the Coffee, while Jamie chose the daily special, Cinnamon (Photo 6). They were soft and tasty, quite comparable to Leonard's albeit a tad smaller. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. FOOD - 4 stars... the malasadas were good, but that ube dessert was next level AMBIANCE - 4 stars...really a takeout operation with a lot of temptations SERVICE - 4 stars...very calm and orderly TOTAL - 4 stars...yet another spot for sweet Hawaiian decadence RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? Knowing me, I was most interested in the dessert, but we ended up dining here on a whim. We had really great service when we dined in. I ordered the oxtail soup because I hadn't had it before, which fulfills my rule of trying new foods when I can. It was tasty, with a unique spice blend reminiscent of other beef soups I've had in the past. However, I was particularly wowed however by the complementary bread and raspberry jam. Call me simple, but the bread was actually the star of the show for me, perfectly soft and buttery. The location in Waikiki is perhaps a clear reminder that it is a tourism city. The atmosphere is that of fine dining. Not a bad place to grab a meal when on vacation in Honolulu.

Everything we ordered was fresh and flavorful. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. Our waitress seemed to be having a rough day. The table behind us had to send food back three different times because they kept receiving the wrong orders, and there was about a 30-minute period where our server completely disappeared. We had to ask another staff member for our check and to-go boxes. She also never came back to check on our table or refill our water. Everyone has off days, so we're hoping that's all it was. We'd definitely come back because the food was so good--we just hope to have a different server next time.
