I hardly need to add my voice to the chorus of Katalina's fans, but having eaten there a couple of times now, it's worth giving it a bit of love. Instead of doing my usual long-form "experiential" review, I'll just tell you three things you need to know about this place: 1.) You can draw on everything. Okay, maybe not everything, but tables, chairs, walls, doors, and pretty much every other surface is covered with colorful marker by customers. Markers are available on the tables, and it's simply a fun treat to jot down a name, phrase, occasion etc. in semi-permanent vibrancy. 2.) It's bigger on the outside. Katalina's is no TARDIS, unfortunately, which means that indoor seating is quite limited. This is a problem during busy periods or during inclement weather, but fortunately there's ample seating outside for when the weather is reasonable. 3.) Pancake balls. While I have some philosophical questions about whether a pancake can actually *be* a ball (i.e. when does a pancake cease to be a pancake etc.), Katalina's trademark treat is truly delicious. I had mine with dulce du leche filling today, but there are a few options available. They're very sweet, and I might quibble that $12 is a bit too pricey for what you get, but...they're pancake balls, and they're delicious. The clientele naturally tends toward a younger crowd, being near both OSU campus and the Short North, but Katalina's does some great comfort food and is worth trying at least once. read more

I've been eager to check out Katalina's for awhile now, having heard a lot of recommendations for it, so I was excited to get a chance to get take out today. The restaurant is just as cute as others have described it, and despite the fact that we were there around 9, there was already a nice line going. Take out, however, was very easy since we had done call ahead. The food was ready in 15 minutes, as promised, and we were able to pop in and grab it without waiting in the line. Service was friendly and helpful too. As far as getting there goes -- if you are driving, the signage in the parking lot behind Katalina's is also helpful - today it was free before 3 pm. Street parking is subject to the city rules, and is only free before 5 pm. And to the real draw... the food! My husband tried the Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich, which he loved. He was impressed with the ciabatta it came on, and loved the blend of flavors from the spicy coating on the chicken and the toppings, particularly the peach habanero jam. It came with a side of Shagbark tortilla chips. I was impressed that there was a nice selection of gluten free options, and decided to make my first dish the award-winning breakfast tacos. This came with three tacos and a side of the elote corn. It was a filling, flavorful dish. The tortillas held up well to their fully loaded state, and all of the ingredients worked well together. The corn had a nice little kick to it too. We've already decided what we're trying next time... so, two thumbs up from here! read more

Pretty cool place! There's lots of writing everywhere letting you know what people thought and quite a few interesting drawings. Small space by the way, definitely not good for crowds. However, they have their own parking lot which is quite nice. I really like their slow roasted pork sandwich! Each component is done really well, and the flavors of that sandwich combine together to create great mingling of flavors. The sweet peppers on it add great sweetness to the smokiness of the pork. Goes great with the egg and the bread is nice and toasted so it does not fall apart very easily! The sandwich held together really well! Sunrise Sammy, dulce de leche pancake balls, a bag of chips, and their version of street corn. Pancake balls? Revolutionary in concept, delicious in execution. maple syrup included but not required. Dulce de leche was delicious, as is their Nutella flavor. Hoping to try the apple butter next time. Huge? Sunrise Sammy was a classically appealing breakfast sandwich. I wish there was more avocado on it. Definitely lives up to the Huge! name. Do not be discouraged by the prices, they give you a lot of food Made the mistake of calling a little too early, so the corn was a little weird. Have had in the past though, usually pretty slap... Overall rather pleased with this cafe. Loved the aesthetic of the outdoor seating, maybe next time will plan to eat there in order to get the full experience. This is my first time in Columbus and have heard great things about Katalina's. I came in for Sunday brunch and was daunted because the line went around the corner. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the line went pretty fast. We were served our food in less then 5 minutes. The food was amazing. My husband and I visited Katalina's on a Saturday around 11 am. The line had already started to form, so we did have to wait a little to get our food and sit at a table. I disliked having to stand in line when it was drizzling outside...and having to fight for a table outside and eat in the drizzle. So I'd advise to go there on a day with good weather! The food overall is delicious. I LOVED the pancake balls (we chose Nutella as our filling). I know you might have every intention to eat healthy, and so did I, but this is not to be missed! I didn't realize such hipster places exist in Ohio! You order inside and freely pick any seating. The decor is really cute; there's colorful graffiti on the tables. The inside sitting area is small, but there's an outside area that is great for summer. The patio is dog friendly :) I came here with my friend on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and the line was not too bad. We ordered the stuffed pancakes and it was delicious. Was visiting Columbus with my wife and was told to stop by here for breakfast. Came on a Sunday morning. It was a crazy wait. The line was out the door. Took about 20 minutes to order. Then another 20-30 minutes to get our food. We had to sit outside (inside is very small and cramped), which was unfortunate because it was a rainy day. But we both ordered the award winning breakfast tacos and coffee. The coffee was solid. The breakfast was were pretty darn good. Katalina's is one of my favorite brunch spots and clearly a favorite for many other people as well considering you can hardly find a seat in there and there's a line out the door every time. Heavenly. This little cafe is my favorite brunch spot in Columbus! Great atmosphere and absolutely delicious. Their original Pancake Ball recipe with a side of their sweet n' spicy bacon is to die for and a must try while in the Columbus area. If you're looking for a meal more savory than sweet, I also recommend their breakfast tacos. This location's indoor seating is limited but has a larger outdoor patio. The seats are on a first come first serve basis so make sure you arrive before the brunch rush! The turnover is often quite quick, but you may run into a small wait. This place has been raking in stars by the Fivers from some of the most respectable Yelpers in this fine city and I have to say that they are basically exactly correct: this place is just wonderful- an enchanting little location with a lot of charm, terribly good food, and great service. Tucked away into a scenic stretch of the neighborhood and boasting a fine little patio, this place is a great little escape from the bustle of High St., which is dear to this small-town boy's heart. Even on chillier days my wonderful woman and I have taken to the patio- even when it's a bad idea, it's demonstrably hard to resist. If they had those free-standing porch warmer things, I'd probably eat out there in the snow. (Maybe.) (Well, possibly.) I swear it would be worth it to visit Katalina's just to sit on the porch and watch the dogs jog by- just order a mug of coffee or one of those home-made ice teas (handsomely served in moonshine jars) and let that be that. That'd be juuuuuust fine, but the food is really damn good, too. There's all sorts of options, but I like the sandwiches- buttery and generous without being too big. I'm still waiting to try that potato salad, though- I love potato salads, but they were out last time, so I went with the chipotle cole slaw instead, which was fine but not perfect. Even out on the patio you get attention from the staff. During our last visit, we were even reminded that the coffee is all-you-can-drink free refills, and were invited to abuse the privilege. Well, I tried- the coffee urns were empty and I had not the notion to wait for the forming line to clear out to ask for more, so I went about my day. The Mazatlan Pork & Egg Sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten. Slow roasted pork with a fried egg, avocado, cheese, roasted red peppers and lime aoli - all between two pieces of buttery, toasted bread. And, now my mouth is watering... I've also had the pancake balls filled with Nutella. As other reviewers have said, they are pretty fantastic. If you are super hungry, I would opt for a sandwich rather than the pancake balls, because they aren't really filling... Or maybe that's just me. My sweet tooth is insatiable so I could probably have two orders. Everything I've had here has been delicious. Call me biased (because I was first taken here by the love of my life...) but Cafe Corner embodies everything I love in a cafe-style restaurant. I will say this - the ultimate experience here is had in the summer, when the patio is up and running, and the sun beats down on the multi-colored umbrellas, and you can walk to breakfast/lunch should you so desire. My best times here have been breakfasting late on weekends (omelets here are tailored to your liking and are seriously some of the best I've had in Columbus. I LOVE this place and I keep coming back over and over again. It's pricy, but it's only because they get their ingredients from local places. I used to always get the country egg and ham sandwich, but they changed it and it no longer has prosciutto and comes with ham instead which I'm not as big of a fan of. The pancake balls are always a must. I always get half dulce de leche and half pumpkin apple. The pancake balls are so light and perfect that you don't even need the maple syrup it comes with. You're given a choice of sweet and spicy bacon or regular bacon. ALWAYS get the sweet and spicy bacon. It's to die for. I've also had the chorizo Mac and cheese. It's good, but a little too greasy for my liking. The hens in a basket are phenomenal as well. There is outdoor seating, but be warned, Katalina's gets extremely busy on weekends and the venue isn't very large so finding seating can be a problem. Super cute breakfast place with food to match. Famous for pancake balls (which are a must try) but definitely not a one trick pony. Lots of great dishes on the menu. The space is small and gets crowded. You order at the register and food is brought to your table (you can usually find one...people don't tend to linger too long). In addition to the Nutella pancake balls we had the award winning breakfast tacos (worth the accolades) and the Hens in a Basket. The "Hens" were good but the "basket" rocked. Something about best quality bread slathered in butter and griddled - can't be beat. With limited service you sometimes don't have a lot to say about execution, but everyone was very friendly. When I went to make room for my food I knocked over my water and the server was so helpful. She cleaned it up, brought me a new water (which is typically self-service) and didn't make me feel like an idiot. Katalina's is my all-time favorite brunch locations, especially when the weather is nice! They have a great patio in a beautiful corner of the Victorian Village. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. The coffee is delicious and the food is divine. I cannot express in words how good the Nutella-filled pancake balls taste and the breakfast tacos are another of my favorites. Part of the trouble I have at Katalina's is deciding what to order. The pancake balls are not gluten-free obviously but I have been known to deal with the consequences of feeling terrible later in order to not miss out on the wonderful treat! After leaving a friends house in Cleveland we noticed NOTHING (arid wasteland that the cleveland suburbs are) decent for Breakfast. God - can I tell you how much Cleveland doesn't rock?
