Chicken & Waffle
Demetrius B.

This place can get crowded during prime brunch hours in fall and spring when the bulk of students are on campus. But to their credit, the staff keeps things moving, and you can get in and out in a reasonable time. For this trip, I baconed myself to bliss by having the Hog's Wash cocktail (bourbon, syrup, candied bacon... and maybe a splash of ginger) and then their The Road Not Bacon burger with two huge pieces of black pepper candied bacon. I liked both but I the cocktail was actually the greater of two goods in this case. I wish the burger had more bacon jam or some other condiment to "wet it up" a bit. My wife's chicken and waffles was darned good, too. Similar to my offerings, the waffle was good, but the chicken was that much better. And it's not a trip to HOE if you don't get a buttermilk biscuit. Those things at the Olde Town East location are addictive. The one's on campus didn't quite measure up this time.

I've been craving pancakes so I decided to drop into HangOverEasy. It looked like the place was pretty full but thankfully the bar seating was open. I sat down and it didn't take long for a server to drop by and give me a menu. Straight away I ordered a black coffee. Honestly my first cup was pretty lukewarm but had good flavor. I ended up having 3 cups and the second 2 cups were good temp. While I was sitting there a different server asked if anyone at the bar would like the Bloody Mary she made. I thought that was pretty nice even though I passed. For breakfast I got my pancakes and a side of sausage. The pancakes were a double stack. They were fluffy and tasty. Really hit the spot. The sausage was one huge patty that had a nice hint of spice to it. I was very happy with my breakfast. Also I found my server to be very pleasant and twice I remarked she had read my mind bringing me things I had just opened my mouth to ask for. Gotta love that!

Delicious. I had the Greek omelette, he had the breakfast tacos with chorizo. Looked closed from the outside but was hopping inside. Get the aloha aloha... yummy!!

Country breakfast delicious. Was welcomed in and got seated right away for a party of 3. I ordered a CBH Hoemade corned beef. Delicious really good and recommended. I don't eat pork but had a lot of great options on their menu. Ordered a Vietnamese coffee with my breakfast definitely needed for my morning. They got country music playing and enjoyed our breakfast.

First timer: the atmosphere was super fun with lots of references to the acronym of their name. The food was great, service was quick and friendly. Not pictured, my friend's chicken and waffles. I loved what I got, but the chicken and waffles were so freaking good! Can't go wrong with anything here.

My Hoe Eggs and Hoe Potatoes. This was the perfect breakfast for me on this day. HOES like a good breakfast too!!

First lemme preface this by saying that this place is perfect for what it is: a greasy spoon breakfast place on a college campus. You get a lot of food for the money you spend and it's a great meeting place for breakfast (the morning after) and/or for brunch (when you sleep in). The service was ok, not great, just ok. The food was as you would expect, but keep in mind that they've got HOE-fries on the menu so don't expect a lot of gentility. They're a bunch of hard working people trying to keep up with gangs of people falling in the place with great regularity. Besides they give you the good hot coffee with both regularity and abundance. If you're by yourself I'd suggest sitting at the bar because it's quite the convivial environment that's just perfect for groups. A very likable place, just be ready for the energy that it provides.

Small and busy college breakfast spot. Found this spot passing through town. Food was average. Service was good. Fast and friendly. I got the chicken and waffles. The chicken was like fried chicken tenders with buffalo type sauce. I personally did not care for the waffles underneath. They got a bit too soggy with the hot chicken sauce and juices placed on top. I personality could not handle the heat on the chicken. Needed ranch. Should have asked for the sauce on the side. The chicken fried steak was ok. Eggs were cooked and served as ordered. The drink was the highlight. Their menu was entertaining with the creative food options listed. The walls were covered with cool and amusing jokes and wall art as well. We parked on the street.

We stumbled in this spot on Friday around noon. It was pretty packed and there was about a 15 minute wait. This place has so much character! And the menu options are pretty much endless. I got the breakfast sandwhich and it was absolutely delicious! This is definitely the perfect spot for breakfast after a night of drinking (hence the name).

It's been awhile since I've been to Hang Over Easy, but came on a Sunday around 1, parking was a bit annoying but there was no wait at the restaurant. I ordered a coffee and Bloody Mary for drinks. They were good, but I had to practically beg for refills of my water and coffee. Got the breakfast tacos with guac added forizo and my boyfriend got the avocado toast. Both so yummy, really filling. Just wasn't thrilled with the ambiance, and the service was really poor. Like I mentioned, I had to wave the waitress over to get more coffee, then again later for water, maybe it was the end of her shift but she did not care about checking on us. Good food though, just not my favorite place anymore.

The burrito was so bland it actually tasted like nothing. Chicken strip was also not great but at least had a little flavor.

Dave's Cosmic %hit Subs... Where do you want me to start?…read more We're in town for the CBUS Blue Jackets and Door Dashed this bull %hit to our ABnB. To start, we ordered at 6:27, our Door Dasher picked up the food at 6:36, but it wasn't delivered until 8:57... Completely unacceptable. Granted the extremely late delivery wasn't the restaurant's fault (necessarily)... However, because they use Door Dash for delivery, they're ultimately responsible by proxy. Add in that the delivery driver spoke no English, tried to kick our English Staffy who ran out whilst smiling to say "hi" (if you know anything about Staffy's, you know they love people and don't have a mean bone in their body), our food was cold because it was delivered 1.5 hours late, and I was about to lose my flipping mind. Now onto the food... These were quite honestly some of the worst subs we've ever had. Subway is miles ahead of this hot garbage, and it's not remotely close. The food was $50 for two puny half filled subs, inedible coleslaw (absolutely disgusting), a pickle, and a GF cookie (that was not delivered). Now onto the really bad part... Within 30 minutes of eating this trash, both my wife and I had to run for the toilet (I'll leave it at that). Bottom line... Screw this place. PS - If I ever run into Cosmic Dave, he's going to get a piece of my mind for charging people $ for this crap.

A Late Lunch at The Brown Bag Deli - German Village…read more Tucked away on Mohawk Street in historic German Village, The Brown Bag Deli is the kind of place that feels both casual and quirky the moment you step inside. The walls are painted like blackboards, with the menu handwritten in chalk, giving the space a friendly, eclectic charm. It's the kind of spot that invites you to slow down and savor a sandwich that's been carefully thought through. As a former chef, I tend to pay attention to the details--flavor balance, texture, presentation--and our late lunch at Brown Bag had plenty of those little moments worth noticing. My Sandwich - The #1 on Ten Grain I went with the #1: roast turkey, house-made coleslaw, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing, all stacked on hearty nine-grain bread, grilled and served warm. True to the deli's name, it arrived wrapped in paper and tucked into a simple brown bag, accompanied by a crisp kosher dill pickle. The turkey had a gentle smoky undertone that stood out nicely against the slightly melted Swiss. The coleslaw was rough-cut, lightly dressed, and added a crunchy, fresh contrast to the rich Russian dressing. At $14.25 a la carte, the sandwich was generous in portion and satisfying, but I found myself thinking this would be the perfect sandwich to split--especially if you're also adding sides. I paired mine with Molly's macaroni salad. It had all the right components--peppers, onion, celery, chopped egg--but for my taste it leaned a little dry. A touch more creaminess could have taken it from "good" to "great." My Wife's Choice - The #16 Classic Club Candi went for the #16 Classic Club: roast turkey, thick-cut bacon, lettuce, tomato, and herb mayo on sourdough. At $14.50, it was every bit the traditional stacked deli club, with layers of flavor you expect. She gave it the thumbs-up. Like mine, her sandwich was served with a pickle, and she added a side of broccoli salad. Flavor-wise, it had promise, but it could have used a bit more seasoning to brighten things up. We also shared a bag of rosemary and garlic kettle chips--crunchy, flavorful, and a good complement to the sandwiches. Price vs. Value Our lunch came to $42.50 before tip, which pushed the total to nearly $50 for two sandwiches, two small sides, and one bag of chips. As someone who's worked in kitchens, I understand the rising cost of ingredients and the challenge of keeping margins while delivering quality. That said, I couldn't help but feel that for the price point, a sandwich should come with a side included. It would make the value match the taste. Final Thoughts The sandwiches were definitely the highlight--thoughtful combinations, good quality ingredients, and prepared with care. Would I go back? Absolutely. But next time, I'll likely split a sandwich, skip the sides, and leave room for dessert--the display case looked tempting. The Brown Bag Deli is a German Village staple for a reason: it's straightforward, unpretentious, and delivers on flavor. Just be prepared for prices that lean higher than your average deli stop. Until next time, I'm Brian -- and remember to Take the Trip! (And maybe the dessert next time, too...)

It's at the North Market, right in the corner. A few stools out front to eat there, or of course you can go upstairs. I wanted to try all of the sandwiches. But I went with the Kimchi Cowboy. Pastrami, kimchi, cream cheese with scallions. I also got a pickle. And they do have a few canned drinks. Service was fast and friendly. The pickle was great, better than the Katzinger's one I had last week for probably the last time. (Yes, those are free, and they are worth it.) These are like two dollars and big, crispy, flavorful. The sandwich was a good size, with great bread, lots of tender pastrami, lots of cream cheese, and some kimchi. All in all it was a pretty darn good sandwich, although the kimchi didn't have the heat, or flavor in general, that I had hoped for. Don't worry about getting this if you do not like spice. You'll be fine. All wrapped up very well, and even when the cream cheese oozed out it didn't get messy. I will be back to try all of the other sandwiches. They also have salads, fries, and maybe one or two other sides. A solid new option for the North Market. Don't forget to get your parking validated, I think it is free for at least the first hour or two.
