Stout Bratwurst with homemade chips

We were visiting from out of town and looked on Yelp for a new place to try- there were so many stars for Valters that we decided to give it a try. My brat was so good and I had a Haufbrahous draft that was so fresh and paired with my food nicely! I would recommend

What a wonderful meal! Full bar too. Such a pretty dining room and nicely planted garden & outdoor patio eating area. Four of us enjoyed an early lunch on a weekday. The restaurant was beautiful with German decorations, accents and furniture. Attentive service. Appreciate the ability to add / subtract ingredients in sandwiches. Didn't have any Spaetzle - German egg noodles or soup, next time! We enjoyed relaxing here, while we tried items from our families plates, yum.

This was my first time trying German food, and it was quite the introduction! The ambiance is like a normal bar with dining, which felt very relaxed and welcoming. The staff were also very nice and attentive. I ordered the Maennerchor Schweinehaxe, and the portion was way too big. But I had a serious appetite and managed to finish it! Based on my palate, it was a solid 4-star meal. Great if you want a hearty, casual dinner. Definitely a cool, authentic spot to visit in Columbus!

German Bavarian Pretzel

Valter's was a nice German restaurant. Our waiter Connor was very attentive and took care of us. I would recommend the tomato bisque soup, pretzel and the Bavarian Wiener Schnitzel & Spaetzle.

Absolute cutest German Restaurant place, in German Village!!! Food; Started with the Sauerkraut Balls, and this is a must try if you have not had them before. My main dish is the Kasespatzle, and its DELICIOUS. The sausage has a little heat, and Kasseri cheese sauce I still dream about. The wine was refreshing. Service; Very friendly, and outgoing.

Bee sting -- stand out item

The food was ok, but the lady serving our table was great! My kasespätzle dish was pretty much a "German" mac-and-cheese with slices of sausage in it. I must admit I made a poor choice as I misunderstood this to be a sausage dish with a side of pasta (turns out it was the other way around!) The sleeper hit was the dessert --- the "Bee sting" was absolutely fantastic. The cake was moist with toasted almonds and a generous drizzle of honey. I would go back just for this. All in all, the lunch was average but I had expected much better; hence, it was a tad disappointing.

I've so glad that I finally made it to Valters Restaurant in Columbus and enjoyed a nice meal there since I was in from out of town and from Missouri. For dinner I ordered the Bavarian pork schnitzel that came with a little of the hunter's (jaeger) sauce and spatzle that were fresh and delicious but the pickled red cabbage as an extra side was only just okay. I started my meal with the beer cheese soup that was delightful with the fresh bread. All my food was high-quality and above-average German cuisine and definitely not cheap. But I think Valter's still serves a typically Americanized version of German food that is lacking a bit in the high quality of food you'd find in the majority of restaurants across Germany and I base my opinion on having lived in Germany for many years and miss it there a lot. One other surprising thing about Valter's is it had a very limited menu of entrees and although it's not a big sticking point, I imagine that this place sticks to doing what they do best. So I'd say both Valter's and nearby Schmidt's Sausage Haus both rate highly for German restaurants in the US but aren't my personal German favorites. Valter's is in a beautiful building both inside and out and has a warm and inviting interior and the service was good.

We loved our visit for a business dinner. Really cool place that somehow feels like a big home. Casual and comfortable, the service from Lauren was excellent! She was unpretentious, professional and hustled the entire time! The drinks were really good, including the German Chocolate Cake Martini. The food was delicious and we all enjoyed everything we tried. Sauerkraut Ball were so fun and tasty! 100% recommended!

Grew up with German grandparents, and so much of this menu and atmosphere felt delightfully familiar!! We split the sauerkraut balls as an appetizer--crunchy, hot and tasty, good amount of kraut. My entree was Wiener schnitzel, and it was so delicious, with mushroom gravy and asparagus on a bed of buttery soft spaetzle. I was in German dining heaven!! We also split the Bee Sting, I would say it was an almond cake with delicious Bavarian cream filling along with toasted almonds and honey. Not a bite left on the plate! The restaurant is decorated in and old German style and hung with many flags and family crests. If you're looking to catch some German vibes, I highly recommend!!

Quickie in/out for a Reuben sandwich, German potato salad, and a German beer. We shared it all. 5* all around. Good service, good food, cold beer. Valter's is always on our rotation.

Schnitzel with noodles

I was in Columbus for a conference and I had some German friends in my group, so we had to make a trip to German town and find a great German restaurant. Upon showing my friend a long list of options they said Valters! They had the type of schnitzel plate with noodles and gravy that they wanted, so off we went! The restaurant is in a charming old house and it feels so German and homie, they had some kind of piano and chorus practice in the room next to us which added to the charm. We had the schnitzel plates, a pretzel with mustard, beer, and a bratwurst. My German friends said it was unfortunately not just like how mom makes it, but good enough to scratch that itch for the specific dish they wanted. The waitress was very friendly and answered all our questions and took the grilling from my German friend in stride as he asked very specific questions about the beer and schnitzel. Our favorite part was actually dessert - a bee sting cake which was so delicious! Wish we had got 2 for our table!

Took Hubby here for prime rib! It was served in a hot pan and had amazing flavor. He seemed to enjoy it very much. They gave him a delicious piece of German cake for his birthday! Simply delicious and very authentic.

Valter's is a Beautiful place, in German town. We walked there after touring Ohio State campus, the homes and garden in this area are fantastic. Our early lunch was lovely, fast service but it doesn't feel rushed. Lots of selection, each of us got something different. Didn't try the spatzel noodles, next time. Menu is even bigger on weekends. Relaxed nice time in this historic restaurant.

I can't prove this, but I believe they have the largest whisky selection in the city. Hey make a mean fish and chips, and there is even a day of the week you can get it for half-off (shhh). It can get crazy busy, so be prepared for that. We come back way too often!

McClellan's Pub delivered a plate of Fish & Chips so good I briefly considered applying for dual citizenship with Ireland and Great Britain just to honor both sides of the dish. Perfectly crispy, piping hot, and seasoned like the chef whispered sweet nothings to the fryer. The whiskey selection? Huge. Titanic. Practically its own ZIP code. But not a drop of Powers. , A tragedy Shakespeare himself would've rewritten entire scenes for. So, like any self-respecting Irish-at-heart patron, I defaulted to good old Jameson--reliable, comforting, and always there for you, like that one friend who helps you move because they "actually like lifting things." I also grabbed to-go orders for the home tribe: bourbon meatballs, prime rib sliders, and meatloaf. The feedback? Universal acclaim. They devoured everything like I'd brought them a peace offering after years of conflict. If McClellan's ever launches a catering service, entire families could be reunited. The place was packed through Happy Hour and well beyond--apparently, half of Columbus had the same idea. If popularity is a metric of quality, this pub is basically Beyoncé. Temperature-wise? A bit chilly. Could've been the weather... could've been the pub... could've been the frigid realization that they were this close to having my favorite whiskey. Hard to say. Bring a jacket just in case. All in all, McClellan's is a rock-solid choice for hearty pub eats, stellar vibes, and enough whiskey to make you forget they didn't have the one you wanted.

Great for finding some food before attending a show at one of the nearby theaters. The menu is what I would best describe as comfort, food. Burgers, pot roast, chicken, pastas, and other selections, which are filling and delicious. A menu is available for review online. Parking is available on street and in a variety of garages and flat lots located throughout the area.

Arrived approximately 3:30pm - restaurant basically empty (maybe 5 tables total occupied). Went to check in for 2 and the host said he had reservations at 5. Huh? So I asked do you mean you can't seat us until 5? And he said no, that we need to leave by then because other people are coming. I thought that was very weird and unprofessional. I've never had an experience like that before. It's a basic sit down place, why would you think we'd linger for more than an hour and a half? Whatever, weird feeling, but we were seated. Seated in the walkway. Not like in a path but literally blocking the walkway where you step down. Why do I say this? Because people walking by kept banging into me. Not their fault. Why is there a table there? And why were we seated there when at least 80% of the restaurant was empty???? Ok whatever. Ordered food including their signature made in-house tots. Waitress comes back and says they were slammed in the morning and they're out of tots. (Man I feel bad for the people coming at 5. LOL) whatever except the people at the next table appeared to be served tots. Food was tasteless. The Mac and cheese had a weird texture like the roux wasn't cooked properly. My patty melt was mostly bread as the patty was too small for the bread. My husband had the signature chimi burger and it completely lacked any chimichurri flavor. Like at all. We were out by 4ish (plenty of time for them to prepare for their expected onslaught) and needless to say I've unbookmarked this place from my yelp. Maybe we'll try the Mexican place across the street next time. ‍
