Decided to bring my mom here before brunch she was in town because we are French and were intrigued! The inside is so beautiful and the patio gives a classic French cafe feel, so we definitely felt right at home. My mom wanted to try the Gruyère cheese puffs and WOW, I've ever had anything like them. For our main dish, we both got their mussels and fries which is my favorite meal of all time and it did not disappoint. The fries were slightly mushy but I actually loved them! Just had dessert at Chouette tonight and it was genuinely some of the best dessert I've had in a long time. Everything was incredible! I don't even know how to explain how good it was. We ordered a few to split, which made it very reasonably priced for a group. This is a beautiful restautant in downtown Columbus. They have a beautiful staircase in the center, and it is decorated for the holidays. They have a Saturday happy hour if you sit at the bar. This was nice as we were downtown for a show at the Ohio Theatre. We ordered fries and the happy hour burger. It was all very tasty. Their cocktails were delicious too! Service was decent. The bartenders were nice but let us be. They weren't in any hurry to rush us out of there. Reservations are recommended as it got busy during the dinner hour. What a charming restaurant in the heart of downtown Columbus. After we were seated, we were served some fresh warm French bread with creamy butter while we looked over the wine and food menu. The service was wonderful and the food was great. I ordered the potato and horseradish crusted salmon. I would've preferred a little bit more horseradish flavor but the salmon was cooked perfectly and delicious by itself. My friend ordered the steak frites which he said was perfect. You must save room for dessert when you come here because there's so many interesting choices. We shared the pistachio dessert which was like 3 little cream puffs with pistachio ice cream in the middle and chocolate sauce poured over the top. There was plenty to share and it was delicious. We tried out Chouette during Restaurant Week and it did not disappoint. The restaurant has a very cozy bistro feel to it. It is warm and inviting in a way that make you want to stay and have the experience last. Chouette has a large drink menu. The waitress was amazing at giving a recommendation at what wine would pair well with my entree. The food was superb. I came here with two friends and we had an absolutely lovely time. The place is decorated so lovely, very French, and is very clean. The bar is a great place to sit for a drink downtown. The server was very knowledgeable on the menu and how the food was prepared. He walked us through the wine selection and the entrees it would pair with. The food was amazing, we had an array of hour deurves and for dinner I had the mussels and profiteroles for dessert which were TOO DIE FOR! Went for an early dinner. It was very good overall. Tall ceiling and airy - can be loud at times, but pleasant overall. The overall vibe is upscale casual. We had a few starters - olives, cheeses, and escargot. All were fine. I had steak frites with hanger steak. Steak was nicely cooked. I ordered bordelaise sauce with it and it was fine - subtle flavor but too salty for me. The server low key recommended the au poivre sauce and I would try that next time. Fries were somewhat soggy. My son had coq au vin and loved it. Again - subtle light flavors, good quality ingredients. The pasta that came with it seemed fresh and was nicely cooked. I had strawberries with ice cream, a little crumble, whipped cream, and strawberry sauce. Delicious and light. M son had crème brûlée - it comes in a wide pan and is kinda thin ("more brûlée than crème"1 but was tasty. One thing to keep in mind is that some appetizers can be ordered any time( (from the "Pour la Table" section of the menu) but others (from the "Hors d'Ouvres" section) must be ordered with the main dishes. So some planning was needed but the timing was excellent and dishes showed up when they should without making us feel rushed. Overall very nice and definitely worth a second visit. read more

Where do I begin. The good - atmosphere was great. Ends there. The French onion soup was so bland I could not finish it. The mussels were terrible at best. Even though the waiter knew it was my partners birthday he allowed her to order dessert and then also brought a birthday dessert. And we told him we had a time commitment to make it to a show. Pasta was incredible, simple and light but tasty. The interior is very cool and the bar seems to be a good place for the future. The 12 oz strip with peppercorn sauce was great, but not outstanding. Mixed experience here. Stopped in recently on a Saturday night. Restaurant has an extremely regal vibe to it as soon as you walk in. Intimately sized but not generally crammed. Our table was however quite crammed and right next to the staircase. It felt very much in the middle of the floor. Our sever Jessica L was kind but definitely felt like she was rushing us; before we had even finished our dinner she was asking about dessert and dropped the check off. This was an 8:30 reservation too, so by the time we left the restaurant was quieting down. Seemed very unnecessary. Food however was exquisite. Had the lobster linguine with Gruyère Mac and cheese on the side. Delicious, perfectly cooked, and would happily order both again. Also had the Applewood Smoked Bacon Tarte Flambee which was also perfect as an app. Overall, would like to give this place a try again. Truly outstanding. To be candid, I waited awhile to try this "hot spot" so it could work out the kinks. Now that I've been, I predict that this will become one of our mainstays and a place to impress out of town friends. The atmosphere is classic French bistro with some nods to the hip-- mascot owls placed rather inconspicuously and a custom printed table motif. Service was friendly and attentive. The World French Restaurant designation that Chouette earned, which places it among only 21 other restaurants worldwide, is evident through the restaurant's use of the finest ingredients, such as rich French butter. The dishes are deliciously executed. The burgers are top notch, the apple tarte tatin is a standout, and I can honestly say that Chouette boasts some of the best fries I've ever enjoyed. The cocktails and wine list are likewise superb. I had high expectations for Chouette, and they were greatly exceeded. I will return regularly and recommend it to my friends! read more

Could have been better! We've been waiting a while to try dinner here and to be fair I am going with 2 stars. My partner loves French dining, so we were excited to check it out and made reservation way in advance of Christmas. Chouette was our choice for a little post-holiday dinner for two and unwind before heading back to work. While the evening was relaxing, the experience fell short and below expectations overall, especially for the price. A friend that had a similar experience said it was because we went on Sunday and that is not their A-Team. I guess I would say OVERALL the food was good, but the timing and service didn't match the expectations. For example, the $39 hanger steak was served cold by the time it got to the table, and the Black Truffle & Foie Gras butter didn't even melt. I mentioned it to the server and asked her not to make a big deal about it but offering feedback. They took $19 off the bill which was nice, however, they forgot to include the leftover steak in our take-home bag with the chicken and mac and cheese, which was beyond disappointing. I ordered this for the Black Truffle & Foie Gras butter and thought maybe I can microwave it and enjoy the other half at home. My partner had the Coq au Vin, which was flavorful but seemed like it had been kept warm in the oven. The Mac & Cheese, Soup, and desserts were great. Additionally wanted to point out there was no presenting and tasting of the wine, nor inspecting the cord when brought to the table. It was pop and pour. We also had to replenish our own wine glasses during the meal and weren't offered another drink (we didn't need one but still). All of this felt off for the setting and the experience the restaurant is suppose to offer. Additionally, No one asked how our food was, if it was cooked to temperature, how the meal was going during the meal, etc. For food, we ordered: -Deviled Eggs $9 -French Onion Soup $18 -Gruyere Mac & Cheese $10 -Coq au Vin $38 -Hanger Steak and Frites $39 -Bottle of Catherine et Pierre Breton, Trinch! We came to Chouette as a parents night out as we had seen and heard lots about the restaurant. Entering the space was charming as the decor was classy and upscale with a beautiful bar and what looked like a nice patio. We ended up sitting inside given the weather when we went and unfortunately, one of the largest drawbacks of this restaurant is the spacing between tables. I'm not a large person, but even I felt awkward getting in and out of the seats based on how closely the tables are spaced. I would highly recommend requesting a table not along the wall as some of the other tables are placed much more comfortably. We started with cocktails and appetizers having the gougeres and escargots - the gougeres are easy to share and good for groups, but I wasn't blown away by them. The escargots appetizer was good being garlicky and buttery as they should be. For entrees, I was disappointed the duck was not on the menu when we went, but I ended up with the lobster, truffle pasta and my wife had the coq au vin. The truffle pasta was different than the linguini I had seen on the menu previously and I thought it was fine, but not amazing. The dish felt a little dry with a fairly meager portion of lobster. The coq au vin was actually quite good and what I would recommend for anyone visiting. On the whole, given the price point, I thought it was a fine experience, but likely prefer other restaurants in Columbus. Stop by if you want French cuisine in an upscale and beautiful restaurant, but again, be sure to try the patio or a table that has some space. read more

We came here for a late dinner after a show at the Riffe center. The ambiance is very nice and the service was fantastic. My wife and I shared the escargot, which was excellent. We also shared the Caesar salad, which was pretty mediocre -- almost like eating raw lettuce leaves, nothing exciting. For dinner, I ordered the duck confit, which came on a bed of lentils. The duck breast was delicious, although a tad overcooked. The dug leg wasn't particularly flavorful until you mixed it with the lentils and the sauce at the bottom. But overall great presentation and tasty. My wife got the lobster linguine. She liked it very much. And for dessert we shared their crème bruele, which was delicious. I should mention that I enjoyed their cocktails and the bread service was nice as well. I honestly oscillated between 4 and 5 stars here and in this case I would usually give it the higher score. But based on my one visit so far, and the price point it which it competes, it's much closer to 4 stars rather than 5 stars. But this is nonetheless a fine restaurant and I look forward to trying some other dishes here. read more

The food was delicious but not very memorable. The cauliflower steak was undercooked. The Mac and cheese were delicious. The green beans are basic and limp looking. The steak nicely cooked. The cheese plate is delicious and I would have loved to eat everything we ordered but wait staff are so quick to clear our table while we are still grazing! We didn't spend $450 (excluding tip) to not be able to finish our appetizers and entrees. So come to Chouette if you want a beautiful space and if you are on a diet; rest assure you won't get to finish your meal. The staff will save you from enjoying all the food you ordered and they won't offer to put the leftovers in a box for later. The wait staff are funny and nice but they will make you feel rush by quickly clearing the plates without consulting the patrons. It makes me wonder if this is a Chouette house policy issue and not a server issue. There are so many other restaurants in Columbus with small spaces. I have never felt rushed dining at Speck, Agni, Stav, or at Haru Omakase. I would rather be a repeat dinner guest at these establishments. They will make you feel at ease. read more

First visit to Chouette was an experience to remember. The setting is cozy and upscale, I really enjoyed the upstairs loft seating. It felt very French with the paper table setting and the delicious bread and butter that was served to the table. We had a pitcher of the Le Fleur cocktail which was a delightful pink color with great fruity floral flavor. The deviled eggs and cheese plate were an excellent way to start the meal, especially by ordering soft cheeses which could be spread onto the delicious bread. The Celentani pasta was one of the richest dishes I have ever had, and I would have licked the plate if I could. Service was also fantastic, as we did not feel rushed to order everything at once and get out, but rather we could order one plate at a time and enjoy the setting of a prolonged dinner with friends. This was probably the most French part of the experience as classically American restaurants want customers to get in and get out. I was feeling a tad hungry last week while I was scrolling on TikTok and then a video about Chouette came up and I knew I had to visit. Located in the heart of downtown Columbus is this chic French restaurant. I chose this spot as it looked to have a cute bar area. The bar is first come first serve and patrons are granted access to their entire menu. I started out my experience by trying the strawberry and geranium margarita. The margarita was good, but was served in a smaller glass than I had hoped for. After my drink, I ordered the French onion soup and a side order of the frites. Oh man!!!! This was the absolute best French onion soup that I've had in my life- so many picturesque cheese pulls. The frites were also cooked to perfection and you have a multitude of dipping sauce options. I didn't indulge in dessert during my visit, but they also boast quite a long list that I plan to try in the future. read more

Our server on the other hand was not the best! We had an awful checkout. A group of us were there for a friend's birthday. The bill obviously came as one large bill we asked if it could be split the server said yes when the bills came back three out of the five bills were incorrect and had other peoples food on it and drinks. We asked him to correct it and he did so we sent him with our cards and when he came back three out of the five receipts were charged to the wrong card!! How? When we specifically put each card in a different section of the receipt book so they were singly with the correct receipt. Had lunch there with my daughter. We shared the endives and beet salad, really enjoyed the subtle blue cheese and dressing. We ordered mussels and fries, also the crepe gratinee, to basically split and taste both dishes. Those were the best mussels I ever ate in a US restaurant. The broth was so delicious that we asked for spoons after dipping our fries in it. The crepe was loaded with mushrooms, topped with an egg and cheese sauce, just as delicious as one you can eat in the region of Brittany, France. It was great fun being able to coordinate a sister double date night at Chouette. It was all of our first time here and the atmosphere, service, cocktails, and food did not disappoint! We started with cocktails at the bar where the bartender was super friendly. I loved my sidecar and Dan enjoyed his bourbon & citrus-based Stone Fence. Mandy had her usual champagne while Brian's Laurier martini had an unexpected savoriness from the bayleaf infused vodka. The bartender was very attentive and friendly. Off to a good start! We moved to a table for an exquisite dinner starting with a delicious Pâté de Campagne that is paired with a delightful celery root remoulade, gherkins, and grilled bread. The big Atlantic oysters came with a Champagne Mignonette and Cocktail Sauce. All four entrées were very well received, but we all liked our own the best. I couldn't pass up the beautiful bouillabaisse with snapper, lobster, shrimp, and mussels in a flavorful saffron rouille poured tableside. Dan really loved his rainbow Trout topped with a pretty blend of cauliflower, capers, croutons, and pea shoots. It had a bit of a sole meunière flavor profile and was VERY good. Mandy's rich butter poached lobster was served over linguine with oyster mushrooms and an earthy porcini cream sauce. Brian commented that his halibut (the special) was floating on a cloud of braised leeks in a buttery wine sauce. I appreciated the portion sizes and that sides needed to be ordered separately. Aside from the potatoes that came in my stew, there were enough accompaniments with the other dishes that the main entree was plenty. As much as I wanted to try the pear dessert, it would have been too much. So espressos and coffee to finish - then a pop over to Hank's, Chouette's sister restaurant across the street- for a nightcap. Chouette is so charming! We really enjoyed everything we had. We started with cocktails and wine- the Bramble was a great fruity drink that wasn't overly sweet, I ended up sticking with that the whole night. The bread came out hot and fresh- we were a little disappointed in the butter it was served with (we thought it would be high-quality French butter), but the bread was so good. For dinner, we started with the tarte flambée, which I highly recommend- it's an Alsatian specialty that's not easy to find in the USA. The crust was so perfectly light and crispy, I've never had one like it. I was also really pleasantly surprised to see boudin blanc on the menu- it was such a cozy and comforting dish, served with mashed potatoes and plums. The peach melba was our favorite dessert- it's a total showstopper, the raspberry sauce it was topped with was so tart and really brightened up the whole dish. I was so excited for this restaurant when I heard about it a few months ago. I'm a French teacher, I've lived in France and have been many times, Columbus needs more French restaurants in my opinion. Made a 5pm reservation on a Tuesday because we were seeing a 730 show. I just assumed we'd need some time for dinner because French dining is longer than the normal American experience. We were greeted warmly by the hostess, and decided to eat inside rather than outside, even though it's very cute and appealing outside too. The restaurant looks soooo french. Like a nice little French bistro all the way though. Some areas look a little darker, some a little tight. But I think they made great use of the space. For drinks, I loved the cocktail options, I couldn't decide between the French 75 and the Épicé, but I'm a sucker for a mezcal and wow- it was incredible. My beau got the Laurier martini- he liked it but said it had a little too much going on, he likes a more classic dirty martini, but I thought it was fabulous. They also had some really nice mocktail selection. Tons of French wines to choose from, most that I had no idea what they were, but they do have a sommelier to help (or at least that's what I think I observed at another table). We started with a cheese course. Usually that comes at the end of the meal in France, but we're in the USA darn it and I wanted cheese first. We really enjoyed the three we chose- the délice de Bourgogne especially was similar to a cream cheese, but better. We also got the Camembert- the most popular cheese in France, and the mimolette which was a harder cheese. we liked all the fruits and accoutrement that came with the cheese. nice bread and butter service- wish there was a gluten free option though. Overall, the cheese was a great option, and very filling. At this point the restaurant was getting busy and we hadn't seen our waiter in awhile, I read other reviews talking about servers going missing for a long time- maybe they don't have enough on staff? Anyways, we flagged him down to get our main dishes ordered. I went with the vegetarian gluten free option- cauliflower steak, and my bf got the tenderloin with bordelaise sauce. It came with frites but he got the puréed potatoes instead and ordered a side of ratatouille. My cauliflower was spectacular- loved the sides with it, just really delicious. He said his steak was good, but just was missing something. I think he'd opt for the butter pairing next time. The ratatouille was great too- he especially liked it. We were too full for dessert unfortunately. Overall a great experience, it's nice to have a really solid upscale restaurant downtown. 100/10 My server Dallas was so freaking good! Her energy, your poise, wine knowledge EVERYTHING. The supporting staff (runner, host, cooking staff) only elevated my experience. Wine wrong? No problem - fixed without hesitation. The food? Sublime!!! I asked to shake the chefs hand. I had a bad day at work and all my woes melted away at Chouette! My two girlfriends and I went here for 614 Restaurant Week and I feel like $50 for so few options was disappointing. The appetizer and dessert were the best. I had the dirty Caesar salad and loved it. The herb roasted chicken with frites was not great. When it came to the table, it wasn't warm and the chicken skin wasn't crispy. I had the chocolate mousse dessert which was really good. I just felt like it should've been $40 rather than $50. The aesthetic of the restaurant was great, however the service was slow and their wait staff were all sort of awkward/didn't communicate very warmly. I had an unfortunate experience here this evening. I was seated at 7:00, and there was an accident where a someone had dropped a tray of glassware on my table which I am not upset about, just adding necessary context. I get that human mistakes happen! However, I was not greeted by my actual server until 7:30. For a minute I thought that maybe there was just a miscommunication because of the glassware incident, but it became clear that that was not the issue at hand. Our server was very friendly, and I understand people have off days, but after ordering drinks, our server did not come to our table again until 7:45-8:00 to get our appetizer order. The table sitting behind us seemed to be having the same issue and once they got the attention of the manager, they were served quickly and promptly. The deviled eggs were ok, I felt they were over salted but we still enjoyed them. The steak tartare was also good. For entrees I had the 7oz tenderloin steak frites, and my boyfriend had the celentani pasta. I ordered my steak medium rare and received it incredibly undercooked. We tried to get the attention of every staff member that walked by but to no avail so I had decided to just accept my loss and box it up. My boyfriend really enjoyed his entree. I hate leaving a poor review because I know that not everyone can be perfect 100% of the time, but I felt extremely disregarded and ignored by our server and left with a bad taste in my mouth. This was something I was looking forward to for weeks because it was my birthday dinner. I am pretty bummed about my experience here. :( read more
