You may have seen a few of my reviews for Trattoria Roma (usually glowing) but tonight? Next level. I had the Halibut special with a dill caper cream sauce, and I am still thinking about it. Seriously! The Halibut was cooked perfectly, "pause mid-conversation to appreciate it" perfect. Honestly might be the best I have ever had. And the sauce? If they had handed me a glass of the sauce and a straw... Good night! It came with a caprese risotto that could easily have been the main event. Super creamy, fresh, and the kind of dish where you keep saying "just one more bite"... ten to twelve times. And the service? So good (no great) it would make you want to come back even if the food was terrible. (Don't worry--it's very much not. ) Then (seriously) I find out they're running a special through June 30: order two entrées after 8:00 PM and you get a free dessert to take home. I'm sorry... what?? Dinner and a midnight snack you don't even have to pretend you weren't planning to take home dessert anyway? Heck, they give it to you... -30- read more

We had a great experience at Trattoria. Surprisingly we loved our entrees and drinks with no complaints. The staff was pleasant and we particularly enjoyed Mahdi. We will certainly return. read more

Food was overpriced and poor quality. I got a stuffed meatball appetizer, a side salad and a soda for $29. The stuffed meatball was topped with partially melted (but mostly not) cheese. The flavor was... Fine? Meh? Honestly felt under seasoned. It came with "crostini," aka soft bread that was charred on the grill for a sec before being put in the vat of sauce that was at the bottom of the dish. It was very soggy and not flavorful. I got a seasonal side salad that was.. fine? But $7 for no protein felt steep. Service? Also meh. There are a lot of Italian restaurants in the area. This one just isn't it. read more

Absolutely amazing service, my Scallops were cooked to perfection. I did try my friends Saltimbocca Shrimp and it was ridiculous! Low key kinda wish I got that. Best appetizer was Fritto Misto but we all shared ours. Butterscotch Crème Brûlée was amazing but Tiramisu is also a very good dessert. Can't wait to come back and try more. read more

I doubt it seriously) and went for a cozy front table at Trattoria Roma for date night. Our server Cathlene was sweet and genuinely tried her best, but when an Italian restaurant doesn't know what Cacio e Pepe is? I just... Make it make sense. What we had: Glass of Prosecco - $7.50 Feature White Wine - $8.00 (Both solid and priced right, honestly the drinks were the highlight.) Goat Cheese and Chips Appetizer - $12.00 (Unexpected but interesting -- novelty dish with potential. I'd try it again.) Pesce del Giorno - $38 (Fish on risotto with an herb sauce that was drowning in butter, oil, and lemon. Heavy-handed and not in a good way.) Puttanesca Fettuccine with Salmon - $26 (This was their "interpretation" of our Cacio e Pepe request... but it was giving lemon-oil-pasta-salad with a sprinkle of cheese. Just say you can't make it, babes. ) Normally, this would've run us over $100, but thank God for that OSU meal certificate -- because I would've had serious regret at full price. They've got first basket of rolls is free, pay after energy on the menu now, and while I understand times are tough, it screams "the regulars left and now we're floating." I imagine this place was once a neighborhood go-to, but with shifting demographics and more food options nearby, it might be time for a glow-up. Final verdict: Leaning into their wine selection and updating the menu to serve authentic bistro-style Italian instead of this Midwestern remix could really breathe new life into the space. This place feels like family, come in and sit down. They have a group of people saying hi, I really think it is all family that waited on us. Amazing. We had some amazing food. The bruschetta was good. The polenta with mushrooms and Gorgonzola was amazing and something I may go get as my meal. The torttaline was spot on and flavorful. read more

First time customer, made reservations for 4:30 to avoid crowds, and indicated in our reservation that we were celebrating an anniversary. Host/server asked if we would like the two top immediately inside the door and next to a baby at the next table (the restaurant was nearly empty). We hesitated, not wanting to be rude, and the manager(?) told him to seat us at a different table. Service was very disappointing; the server never asked how we were doing, if we'd been there before, etc - just straight to business. We both got the three course prix fixe menu for the decent price of $40 each. My soup was large and tasty, my partners salad was tiny. Two rolls were served with no butter, no more were offered. My entree was swimming in a cream sauce to the point that I asked for a bowl to discard most of it. Very slow service with no check-ins from server. We took the pistachio cheesecake home and that was very good. At one point we watched the busser come in for his shift at 5pm and change his shirt in the back of the restaurant. This is a cute, charming, Italian restaurant with a simplex yet flavorful menu! I ordered the Carbonara and paired it with a white wine. Our server was great with excellent wine recommendations! The Carbonara was definitely on the heavy side. A little bit less of the cream sauce and maybe some fresh herbs may be able to lighten up the dish! The flavors were excellent and the pancetta was cooked beautifully! I would recommend this place for a family gathering! Booked an early Sunday dinner on Open Table. It was pretty empty when we arrived but started to fill up by the end of our meal. Such a cute spot in Grandview! There's free parking in the lot next to the plaza or plenty of meter parking on the street. Love that they do half bottles of wine and their cocktails are amazing too. We ordered a half bottle of moscato and tried the Trattoria too. Appetizer wise you can't go wrong with the stuffed meatball. It's perfect for two to share and it's delicious!! Came here for a belated Valentine's Day dinner. Good experience as always. Excellent service and good atmosphere. Large format menus are hard to manage once drinks and apps arrive and a 2 top table but we managed! We had the fried vegetable appetizer and the antipasto. Both were good - antipasto had green, olives and pickled peppers piled on sliced meats and cubes of cheese. Had to dig a little for the meats but overall they were good. I ordered a ribeye but subbed pasta + marinara for the mashed potatoes. Everything was good but the steak was half piled on the pasta - I should've asked for it to be in a separate bowl. read more

We've known about this place for quite sometime, but we have never tried it. A few other places in the area are some of our go-to's for food. It doesn't help much since we don't live nearby. Well a few days ago we decided when we were in the area to go here instead of one of the others. Boy oh boy, am I glad we stopped here! Not only was the food decently priced, the atmosphere nice, the staff very helpful and kind, but the food, it was excellent! I ordered the pasta with Arrabbiata sauce, and grilled chicken. I loved it! The sauce was great a slight spice, very hearty, had onions, peepers, chunky tomatoes, and was more than enough. This left me with an awesome dish to take home and enjoy. Unfortunately, I didn't snap any photos, maybe we will the next time we're in the area. We stopped in around 7ish on a Saturday and didn't really have a wait, we chose to sit at a high-top near the bar. The server was very kind, sweet, helpful, and got everything right! She made sure the experience was good and she thoroughly nailed it! Italian is one of my faves so every place I find that I love is a super win for me! Location is easy to find, inside was clean with nice size dining area. We sat at a small table right at the window to see all the happenings outside. Food; We started with the Arancini's and they were really good. My main meal, which I was so excited as I went researching top Italian Places and landed on Trattoria. I ordered the Ravioli of the Day, which sadly was not good and I am so bummed even writting this, I felt like the ravioli was sorta thrown together with some chucks of meat and this odd dark meaty sauce. It totally may have been my fault and not understood the flavors. I didn't want to send it back, as once dinner came the place was super busy. So went on to order one of my favorite desserts, I ordered the Salted Carmel creme brulee, I am not sure if it was my taste buds after my meal but tasted like salted was literally poured on top, and not just a little. A nice Friday, date night experience with an intimate atmosphere, good alcohol prices and great service. The food...? Adequate-to-good. The complimentary bread and butter (for the first batch) was pretty good. I can see why they charge for a second serving. My paper plane cocktail was, ahem, a heavy pour, and I was very appreciative. ;) Then, not by design, we got three dishes that all used a similar marinara/meat sauce. The lasagne was the best of the three, followed by the stuffed meatball. Neither the Eggplant Parmesan nor the Angel Hair Pasta with which it was served was anything to tout. We took a tiramisu to go which is more accurately described as two layers of dry ladyfingers with a thick layer of mascarpone cheese (almost cheese cake-ish). It didn't hit the mark. In summary, Trattoria Roma prove that service and ambiance make a difference. Whether it's for happy hour or for a romantic dinner, you'll enjoy your experience. read more

Tonight was an evening to celebrate my birthday with a couple of friends. I've never been here before so I was excited to try someplace new. We arrived at 6:30p. Even though we had reservations, we didn't need them. The place was almost empty. However as the night progressed the restaurant did start to fill up. Our waiter was delightful the whole evening. He was fun, friendly and professional. The menu was somewhat limited in my opinion, especially if you weren't in the mood for pasta. Since pasta seemed to be the main focus, I chose the Carbonara. My expectations were high for this dish since the restaurant decor screened authentic Italian and the waiter said he thought it was one of their best dishes. Unfortunately this dish fell flat for me. The pasta was super soft soggy. The texture of the whole dish was pasty and sticky. I wouldn't get this again. My f try sends seemed to enjoy their tortellini so maybe I should try that next time. As for sat eating my meal, I kept comparing the restaurant to Marcella's. If I want delicious, simple Italian, that is still my first pick. Having said all of that, this little spot might just hit the spot if you're a local who doesn't want to fight the traffic yof down town. read more

We went here for our 10 year anniversary and had a lovely time! Shelby was our server and took time to answer all my questions about gluten free items. Gluten free bread was a nice touch to start the meal and my martini was great. My partner is not gluten free but he got the ravioli special and loved it. We shared a lovely bottle of Soave which paired perfectly with both of our meals. I had chicken piccata and it was also delicious. Desserts were awesome, especially the spumoni! Really enjoyed our dinner here. Went here with a group of friends. Food is all hand made in their kitchen and very reasonably priced. Decent sized wine list too. I had the pasta carbonara which was very good in addition to the stuffed meatball appetizer which was my favorite thing I had there. Only reason it's not five stars is that our waitress really pressured us to order and gave us a lot of attitude that we wanted to have a few drinks and appetizers before ordering our food. Second time we've ordered from this restaurant and again the food unfortunately was just meh. I had the chicken, Gorgonzola my wife had spaghetti and meatballs. Both dishes lacked seasoning, taste, and quality. The Description of the chicken, hardly matched the lackluster flavor contained within the dish. I believe the meatballs were frozen. Jarred Carfagna's or Carbone sauce would of been far better than what they put on the spaghetti. With all the Italian places to eat in town, I don't see a reason to order from them again even though they are a local small business. read more

I'm confused by the bad reviews on here because my experience was absolutely amazing! We made a reservation for 4:30pm and it was not busy at all! There were 3 other tables seated around us at the time and I few people at the bar. Our waitress was absolutely amazing and very attentive! Pros: - there are a lot of options on the menu! Typically this would scare me away... but they proved to know how to handle a larger menu! - full bar! There is obviously a lot of wine options, but they also have a full bar and can make anything you would like! I ordered the coconut coffee, with coconut rum and it was amazing! They use Staufs coffee for all of their coffee drinks! - small intimate restaurant - dessert is amazing! I ordered the limoncello tiramisu after asking our waitress what she recommended. It was light and really hit the spot after eating chicken parm! - everything is cooked fresh... there are a lot of reviews on here that the food either took too long or it came out cold. We didn't experience this at all. Our food came out steaming. It did take a bit longer to receive, but it was worth it! Cons: - it was freezing when we arrived. I think they had the AC on since it was so hot outside, but it made it almost unbearable. We all decided to drink some coffee to warm up. By the end of our appetizers the restaurant had warmed up a little bit more. We think this was due to us arriving at 4:30pm when they open at 4pm. read more

My husband and I visited Trattoria Roma this past Sunday and had a wonderful server. We made a reservation for 4:00 (when they opened) but arrived a little earlier, and she was nice enough to let us in to get seated. Seems like a fairly small, family-owned restaurant as her daughter was friendly and also attended to us. Decor is nice, dim lighting, semi-romantic. Food was decent but I'll admit, bland for Italian. My favorite course was probably my Caesar salad with anchovies added for an upcharge. We also got the bruschetta and arancini (no herbs at all in the marinara sauce) as appetizers. For the entrees, he ordered the Taste of Italy trio with lasagna, chicken Parmesan and angel hair Alfredo. I got a full order of lasagna. Both of us said the same, it wasn't bad but lacked a real depth of flavor mainly because they don't seem to use any fresh herbs in their marinara. Overall ok dinner, but too many other Italian places on my list to try for me to return any time soon. read more

My fiancé and I came here for a nice dinner before going to see Hamilton. For our appetizer we had the fritto misto with calamari, shrimp, leeks, zucchini and squash all fried and served with marinara and Chipotle aioli. I've never had calamari served with those items, and I don't actually love zucchini or squash but, thinly sliced and fried with the marinara, they were both pretty good. Both of our entrées were specials, cheesesteak ravioli and the tenderloin. The ravioli was so good!! Tender shredded steak inside each noodle, a cream vinaigrette sauce. Super duper flavorful. My fiancé said the tenderloin was extremely tender, way more than he expected. On a random note, the owner's son was working and when he boxed up my food he wrote a nice message. We had heard good things about Trattoria Roma, a long standing neighborhood favorite when on Morse Road. It was my wife's and my anniversary so we were looking forward to a good meal. I started with a small wedge salad, but I ask you, when have you EVER had a wedge salad that didn't have bacon included (myself, never) on this $8 salad which was quarter wedge on a very small head, about the size of a grapefruit, smoked bacon was a $3 up-charge, and only three grape tomatoes halved. My wife had a salad, average, no complaints. I ordered spaghetti with meatballs in an Arrabbiata sauce with meatballs and my wife (not understanding the eggplant parm came with its own sauce) ordered her eggplant parm with Arrabbiata also (it was never explained this was over a $5 up-charge) The Arrabbiata had way too many diced onion and an odd flavor I couldn't place but neither of us liked it all. My meatballs were dense and hard and rubbery with very little flavor, my wife tasted them and agreed. Dinner was served with dinner rolls, nothing exceptional, certainly no Italian bread you'd come for, for just the bread alone, and when that was gone with our salads, no more was offered. After we finished (and I barely ate half my meal) we were asked if we would like anything. We declined and then we were asked how we enjoyed everything, and I had to be honest, I said I did not enjoy mine at all, I explained the sauce was not enjoyable and not at all what I expected (which by the way, I never had the chance to mention since our server didn't check in with us during the meal) I also mentioned the meatballs were small and dense and I didn't enjoy them, at which point I would have expected him to either discount a portion of the meal or the very least have the manager stop at the table, neither of which happened. It was obvious I did not enjoy my meal as I didn't want to package it up or even bother to take it home. Feeling guilty, but without asking, our server brought us a lemon cello cake, possibly to make us feel better about the bad meal , it was okay but also not enough to smooth things over for a meal that was $63 before tip, no drinks but water. Not sure (and I will read after I post) why anyone wouldn't give 5 stars. Trattoria is our special occasion place. The atmosphere takes you back to a New York style Italian restaurant. The only reason the food is cooked is because you ordered it. Sure it might take an extra 5 minutes but it's well worth it. Food, service, and ambience unmatched. Just like the previous Yelper, I'm suprised to see the low reviews. We came here with our friends and their toddler. The service was very accommodating; our waitress was super helpful in getting special ice cream etc. for the little one and just overall very welcoming. There was also another random waiter who would stop by every now and then just to play with/make friends with our friends' toddler, which was above the call of duty. I had the Chicken Saltimbocca which was a little on the heavy side for me, but flavorful and not a bad choice in the end. Also enjoyed the mix of half bottle wine options. I wasn't impressed by this establishment. My wife and I were being attended to by our waitress until there were more people who arrived after us and the service started to decline. They messed up my wife's order and applied bacon and didn't add the shrimp and then when they found out about it they brought the shrimp out but didn't offer to remake it, my wife hates bacon but she ate around it because the food already took long enough and we didn't want to want any further. Shawn and the entire staff were so welcoming and made us feel right at home, like family dining in their kitchen.
