With so many rave reviews, we were really excited to try Katalina's. Maybe we came in an off day but it was just a-okay! The vibe is great and the staff are all very cool. We ordered a cold brew, which was very good and potent, which I like. The much hyped pancake balls are in fact quite tasty. Dense, chewy, and sweet. A serving of 6 is a heavy way to start the day -- better to share with friends! The breakfast tacos were just fine. The eggs were overbeaten and a tad bland. The side of potatoes was cold and soggy, they didn't get eaten. We had a nice time but it wasn't a rave.
Katalina's is SO good! The pancake balls are so fluffy and filled perfectly with your filling of choice (all of them are great); all of their different breakfast sandwiches are huge and taste unbelievable! Their sweet n spicy bacon is a must and the purple potato hash is a great side for your breakfast. The vibes here are awesome and it's a great place to kick off your weekend or enjoy a nice chill brunch with some amazing food! Katalina's is definitely a go to place, and is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch stops in Columbus
Really enjoyed this restaurant. Brought my sister and her husband and son for her birthday. Does not look like much from the outside but once you step inside it's very cool. There are markers at each table so you can color, draw, or write. Food was very good, everything felt like it had a little spice or kick to it. We shared the pork and egg sandwich and thank goodness cause it was huge. No way I could have eaten all that alone. We look forward to coming back Oh oh oh got a side of the sweet and spicy bacon and it was the best bacon I have ever had. It was DELICIOUS!!!!
Staff was friendly and the service was great. Good nice neighborhood it's located in. I decided to try their Mexican French toast and it was really good. Definitely recommend trying this place if you're in the area
Famous for their stuffed pancake balls -- and they did not disappoint. Ooey-gooey apple pumpkin butter inside with a soft, chewy exterior = absolutely delicious (and super filling). Ordered 6, but I could only finish 3. The special spicy-sweet bacon? Not super special, but it paired well with the pancake balls. Tried their spicy soup -- definitely spicy, but didn't quite hit the spot. Also had the fresh-squeezed blood orange juice + watermelon lemonade. You could tell it was fresh, but the flavors weren't as sweet or refreshing (maybe just not in season). Overall: come for the pancake balls, skip the rest.
Order first, then sit! This is your PSA- this is the system so folks can have a seat,eat, leave- making room for those ordering and waiting to eat. ( and management will aid you if someone sat then ordered!) Fun vibe, 80s ish music playing, friendly staff. Delicious food! It's a lot more that you think! You can get iced coffee, etc. Would go again!!
Cute little cafe with characters. Pancake balls are very cute and good but not wow. Presentations are simple and fair. Cozy happy place. Nice warm service. Lovely lunch place. Charming but not a place to relax. Feels like to grab food and go.
The food was delicious! However, it took so long for a us (2 entrees and 1 appetizer) to get our food. We had to wait almost an hour for our order. It's nice they have indoor and outdoor seating. The interior is nice and I like how you go to the counter to order before attempting to find a seat. I think the pancake balls could have had more filling. We got the Nutella ones and they were good, but I think having more filling would be better.
We went with a group to have breakfast but there wasn't enough indoor seating so that's why I'm giving it a four. It was cold outside otherwise we would have used the outside tables. The servers were very friendly and they really tried to fit all of us on the bar tables inside. The place was really cute. We ended up getting the pancake ball, dulce de leche to go and they were amazing. The pancake batter was the best. Tomorrow there will only be 2 of us so we are going to go try it again. If you do not have a big group or if the weather is nice I would definitely recommend it.
Excellent food and service above expectations. The pancake balls live up to the hype, the sweet and spicy bacon was crispy and well balanced. Breakfast tacos were good and the potatoes were some of the best we've had, crisp and well seasoned. Free parking was nice too. We'll be back
Really disappointing experience here. I'm a Columbus resident and have come here in the past and had great experiences. Stopped in this weekend with some out of town friends. Food was okay but took well over an hour to come out. My one friend cancelled his order an hour and a half after he ordered and asked for a refund (which they did give him). I know it's the weekend and they are jammed but over and hour for our food seems excessive. Patio and decent-sized parking lot are very nice and important to mention for those not familiar with this place. As far as the food went, I had the Katalinas Migas which was okay. The eggs were not really seasoned and tasted bland. The avacado toast was delicious, however. What was really disappointing is that the pancake balls my girlfriend ordered had almost zero Nutella in them (see pics). For the price point, I probably would not order either again in the future. Overall poor experience here, and I don't think I will be back.
Weve heard amazing things about the food here and it did not disappoint. We visited on a weekday around 2pm and service was quick. We tried the Katalinas Latina sandwich which was so good. Loved how all the flavors worked together. We also tried the avocado toast with the holy tomole soup which was a perfect combination. All the great reviews are correct, this place is delicious.
Katalina's has an incredible menu that makes it almost impossible to decide what to order, but there is one thing you absolutely have to have: the pancake balls. These were what we came for and they did NOT disappoint. They came out in an order of six with the most incredible sweet and spicy bacon on the side- we honestly wished we had ordered extra of this because it was so delicious. The pancake balls themselves were hot and fresh and just delicious- the pumpkin apple butter was the perfect filling, and it's nice that they sell it by the jar inside, too. The breakfast chickwich was massive- we were not expecting it to be so huge! It's hard to make a chicken sandwich stand out, but the coating on this one was really unusual and tasty. It was served with a side of purple potatoes that were just okay, they could have used more flavor. The sandwich bread was surprisingly delicious, too- it was super fresh. The breakfast tacos were the only thing that we found really disappointing. They're the first thing on the menu and listed as "award-winning" so maybe our standards were just high, but they were completely ordinary breakfast tacos that had very little flavor- kind of a bummer when there are so many other exciting-sounding things on the menu. The street corn it was served with was very good, though. Something to note- there are only a few tables inside and outside, and they are first come first served. You order your food at the counter and then go sit at a table. They will not let you hold a table with items while you're ordering, and I saw them move several people's belongings that they had put down to save a table. I fully support this policy but can see it being frustrating to some.

5 stars for Service and Ambiance Vibe 5 Vibe and environmentally aware. Love the decor of colored chalk meanderings. Too cold to sit indoors on a May 8 morning even though we were the first to get to this exceedingly cozy place! Luckily, we moved outdoors in the Sun under the quaint colored umbrellas. A limited menu was offered due to staffing...a pity since I could not have the OKONOMIYAKI Disappointed with the purple craze hash. Although I was delighted in the purple potatoes, these were undercooked barely fork tender, not at all steaming hot amd I should have sent them back. My daughter took hers home to cook as leftovers. Nice array of picante seasonings provided on the table. I did not need any tailoring. The rest of my Hens in a Basket order was good. Eggs could be a tad runnier sunnier nested in the sourdough toast. Now, the vegan sausage was stellar, especially sandwiched in the cut out rounds of the sourdough toast. Best feature of this breakfast, the never ending, especially having almond milk....vegan choice The Breakfast Chick Wich looked good and my daughter seemed to enjoy it. The food is well presented in cheerful paper mini trays and wax paper with actual silverware, a total plus for being green. I'd like to come back and have the entire menu available despite the sticker shock when I saw the bill since I ordered without knowing the price. But, it was a thoroughly pleasant breakfast out of town visiting my graduating daughter. read more

This was a truly special meal in a spectacular setting! Katalina's opens at 8am and my wife, son and I pulled up at about 8:20. There was already a few people seating in the outdoor patio area, but there were still several tables. We examined the menu and then found a prime stop to soak up the sun and enjoy the early morning. Food was out about 10-15 minutes later and we were still one of the only groups on a beautiful Saturday. I ordered the migas with avocado toast and my wife ordered the Nutella pancake balls with sweet and spicy bacon. I really liked my meal and thought the crunchy toast complimented the softer migas really well. Flavors were really well developed and I didn't even want to put any of the condiments hot sauces on as I found the flavors really delightful! My wife also raved about how good the Nutella pancakes and bacon were too! Really pleased with the food and ambiance. Wish we were sticking around Columbus for a few more days. read more

I really can't say enough nice things about this place. Katalina's was amazing! We stopped in for brunch on Sunday and we had heard there could be a line -- and they weren't joking. However, it moves pretty quickly as it's counter-service and then you're basically waiting for a table. There is a parking lot or you can park on the street. Once you do, get in line and wait your turn to order at the counter (this is what make the "line" seem long) and then wait for a table with your table number and take a seat. There is chalk on all the tables so you can draw on the tables! The location is great and the food is Mexican-inspired but with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. They are known for their biscuit balls so I ordered the vegetarian biscuit balls with eggs and my husband ordered their Mexican French Toast. The biscuit balls were amazing and came with a peach habanero jam which we couldn't stop talking about. Prices are fare for Columbus and the staff was friendly and service great. I've since recommended this place to several other people! Make sure you stop in - you can tell it's a place the local love! read more
Oh goodness, this place is simply amazing!!! The staff, the food, everything! The staff is super friendly, the food is absolutely delicious, and the decor is pretty hip! I ordered the Ms. Katalina's Migos with no corn chips and let me tell you - the meal definitely hit the spot! The avocado toast was fresh and tasty and the "bowl" was overflowing with eggs that my husband had to finish the meal for me! SO GOOD!!! My husband ordered the breakfast tacos and they looked pretty good as well. His was a "lighter" meal, not one to where you would have to leave overly full! We definitely plan on coming back! I was in town for a bachelor party and this place was walking distance. The business did everything they could to maximize the space available. I ordered the everything but the chicken sink Sammy and a black tea. The tea was good. I was a little hesitant about the sandwich simply bc I haven't had French toast in a almost a decade and was never a fan to begin with. To my surprise this was probably the tastiest sandwich I've had all year. All the flavors complimented each other so well. Not a single flavor profile stole the show. The Nashville hot seasoning was just the right amount of heat and was perfectly offset but the French toast, maple syrup, and powdered sugar. After the first bite I immediately understood the crowd present. Definitely joined the clean plate club and would highly recommend to anyone. read more

This is such a cute place! The inside is rather small, it got crowded as people were trying to squeeze in to order. So we decided to sit outside and it was very nice. Staff was friendly. I got the award winning breakfast tacos with chorizo and it was really good! I tried their horchata and it was good as well. A great little place for brunch! read more

This is an amazing place to eat! A little hole in the wall you may even miss if you don't look for it! They have killer sandwiches that will keep you full all day. The bread is toasted to perfection. ALWAYS get an order of stuffed pancake balls. Right now with covid, all dining is to go only on the weekends so I would highly recommend ordering ahead and picking it up. Wait times can get long but are definitely worth it! read more

This place is definitely a fan favorite for Columbus (and for my dad lol). We came here for Father's Day on a Sunday and there was quite a wait. We ordered and waited about 45 minutes for our food and had to wait in the parking lot. The food is good, but is it good for that long if a wait?! To avoid that, I would recommend coming super early in the morning or during the week as it's much easier to get in, order, and sit down to eat! Wow! This is a place you want to say you've been to in Columbus. I thought it would be pretty hipster, because it's decorated that way and the workers certainly are, but the customers are not. I saw mostly college students, especially sorority girls and old folks. I saw a few hipsters, but this seemed like one of those trendy restaurants, and that is so not a hipster thing. I feel like a tourist should visit though. Parking isn't bad. There's a lot that's free I think until 4. But I did parallel parking just past the lot because I didn't even notice they had a lot. The neighborhood is expensive so the prices definitely reflect this. When my two friends and I came at 9 in the morning on a Thursday, almost all the spaces were taken inside. It was TINY. I'm not kidding. I guess people know you gotta come early. I can't imagine being here on a weekend. My friend told me that she waited 30 minutes when she came around 11 on a Saturday. They do have a good handful of tables outside, so we sat at one. They're all bench tables with umbrellas. Lots of graffiti and drawings all over the tables. I ordered the pancake balls with some coffee. I will truthfully add that the dishes are kinda expensive. I spent $16 total. The pancake balls were almost $12 and the coffee is refillable. It's worth trying though. I got full. I ate maybe two, gave two to one friend, and the rest to my other friend. My friends got breakfast sandwiches. One had egg and bacon and the other friend had one that was egg, avocado, red peppers, aioli, provolone, and pulled pork. Their food came with Ohio tortilla chips. Really good and filling! I split the sandwich with one of my friends and gave her most of my pancake balls. It's worth splitting a sandwich. It's so much! I don't eat a lot for breakfast in the first place! Service was good. As we left, a worker came out to give my friend a bag for her leftovers. So nice!! It got even busier as it approached 11. Wow! Popular spot even though it's pricey. It's worth your money though! I scoured yelp to find a place for brunch that had great outdoor seating and also great food. Katalina's was the final choice and we were not disappointed. The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating when we asked to move outside when a table opened up. We got a order of the infamous Nutella pancake bites, the award winning breakfast tacos and the chicken sandwich. All were exquisite! The pancake bites were dangerously good. I don't know if I've had a pancake that good ever. So pillowy and soft with a crispy edge. I don't know the ingredients but they are definitely superior to the classic buttermilk. They come with a side of syrup and a side of bacon (also wonderful). The breakfast tacos were very good, but not so good that I won't try other items on the menu next time. I enjoyed them but they couldn't overshadow the pancake bites. I love love love the corn that came with. Maybe even more so than the tacos, but I am a corn fiend so you'll have to judge for yourself. The chicken sandwich was as good as it gets! The franks red hot, the runny egg yolk, and cheese complimented each other perfectly. The chicken was crispy, yet juicy and competes with places known for their chicken. Peace, love and pancake balls. Every time I come to Katalina's I only order the Nutella pancake balls, with sweet and spicy bacon. You can't go wrong. This original location is super small inside. They have some nice patio seating, but not abundantly. For right now, I'm sticking to carry out. You can easily order online and see how long it will take for your order to be ready. Choose curbside and they will bring it to your car. You'll also get an email when you order is ready for pickup. I feel like Columbus has so few unique options for breakfast and brunch, so I definitely wanted to support Katalina's. read more

We were in town for a concert and were craving some filling, hearty brunch food. We came across this page thanks to Yelp and yes, the reviews are accurate - this place is "as good as it gets!" While the prices were a bit higher than what I was expecting, the quality and taste made it worth it. I went with the Award-Winning Breakfast Tacos, vegetarian style, and they were delicious. While it might not seem like a lot of food given that it's only 2-3 tacos, they are super filling and hit the spot. I also tried a friend's breakfast sandwich with the veggie sausage. It was equally as delicious. The food came out quickly, the decor is fun and quirky, and it was a spot to definitely check out if you haven't already! read more
First time in German town and really glad I came to this place for breakfast! I enjoyed the whole aesthetic and additionally glad I didn't have to wait for a seat as I've heard rumor of how busy they are. Though we did not get the famed pancake balls, we did really enjoy our breakfast and coffees. I got the "Hens-in-a-Basket" and my partner got the Breakfast Chick 'Wich. The Hens-in-a-Basket came with veggie sausage, and it was such a filling and delicious way to start the day. I enjoyed every bit of it and loved being able to put a variety of hot sauces all over my meal. I also enjoyed how the hot coffee was a self serve, as I usually have a few cups with breakfast. My partner loved the breakfast chick wich and I had a bite or two and can confirm: certified delicious. Perfectly fried and the combo of toppings with the egg was perfect. Can definitely recommend this spot and if I find myself back in Columbus, I will be stopping by for the pancake balls. read more

Such a neat neighborhood brunch place! The vibe is really chill - but you have to time it right because seating is mostly outside. We came on a brisk but sunny day. I imagine my experience might have been marred if it was super windy or rainy out. The line moves surprisingly fast. I think we got to order in about 15 minutes. We split the nutella pancake balls, the breakfast tacos and the brussels sprouts. The nutella pancake balls were BOMB. I had indulged in a lot of sweets over the weekend, so couldn't eat too much. However, the pancakes are fluffy and light, with slightly crispy exterior. The nutella-to-pancake ratio was also spot on, that you got both in each bite. Also, I highly recommend the candied-spice bacon. It is finger-licking scrumptious! The salty against the caramelized coating and the kick from the spices were a spot-on combination. The breakfast tacos were good, but I wished for a more assertive flavor from the chorizo as well as a more flavorful sauce. I recommend the brussel sprouts to round out the meal as well. read more

You guys! How can you NOT love the original home of pancake balls? On top of the famous balls, just about everything else is absolutely delicious. If you're planning on going to the original location, it's better to pick an off time because the restaurant is pretty little -- however, they do have a wonderful patio for the warmer seasons! I have been here a bunch of times and they have killer food. Most recently, I tried the migas which comes with a side of avo toast. The eggs were a little over scrambled for my taste, but very flavorful and well seasoned. The toast is always very simple but totally bomb! read more

I found this place on Yelp while on a trip to Ohio and I was intrigued by their menu and the photos. It looked like a cute local spot with creative food and a great space. Upon arrival I immediately felt a little unwelcomed because there were a lot of signs telling me all the things I couldn't do. I guess because it's sitting in the middle of a residential area, they have to enforce and be quite adamant about their rules. Upon arrival, a sign for masks was confusing so we didn't put them on but we're told to once we got inside. Another sign regarding dogs which I guess they allowed on the patio at one point but now they weren't and then again when I sat down that basically said you can only sit if you ordered food. I get it, I'm sure they don't want solicitors in their small environment but I also got the impression as a paying customer with no dog that I better not mess up or it'll end up as another sign. The food was great, I got the breakfast tacos and they had the perfect balance of hearty and fresh on them. I really liked them. The only issue I had was with the corn that came with it, it was almost like elote without the cream sauce and only the seasoning so it made the corn a little overbearing because it was just seasoning and no sauce. Overall I give them 4 stars because the area is beautiful especially in the fall while all the leaves are changing and the place is very cool to see. I wouldn't judge them by the rules they need to have in place because of things they probably have happen all the time but it's something to consider for those of us who are like whoa ok, this place likes their rules. read more

Service was too knotch and there was off street parking. I loved the fun diverse menu and they really made me feel comfortable with food safety. They were responsible with recycling and paper straws. My only complaint was how my food tasted. Vegetarian doesn't mean bland! Even the breakfast tacos with chorizo were *ok* (hot sauce on the table helped). Great try it just wasn't for me. read more

First time in Ohio and decided to make a 40 min trek for the pancake balls. These did not disappoint! It was absolutely delicious. They are hot with a slight crispy exterior and a bit of chewy, doughy inside. (Similar to a zeppole-doughnut) I wished there was a tad bit more of nutella/dulce de leche filling, but I would definitely get these again. Agree with a previous review that these taste best piping hot and fresh. read more
I stopped by here a couple of Sundays ago for brunch with my wife. We found Katalinas by looking for a brunch spot and it was one of the top rated ones. Whenever we arrived at the restaurant I could tell that we choose wisely as the line was out the door. Katalinas is the type of place where you walk up to the counter and place your order, pay, get a number and then find a seat. They had both indoor and outdoor seating and all of it was full whenever we got our number. So we ended up trying to stake out a table and eventually got one outside. All of the outside seating had umbrellas which was good since the day we were there it was really hot. Sadly the umbrellas didn't cover the full tables with shade but it was enough for my wife and I to be in it. On all of the tables outside they had permanent markers and it seemed like it was encouraged to color on the tables and other items which was fun. For brunch on this day I decided to go with the Breakfast Chick'wich while my wife went with the Southern Brown Betty Biscuit Balls. The menu described mine as a Southern fried Gerber chicken breast brined in buttermilk and dredged in flour and crushed local Shagbark corn chips, topped with a sunny-side up egg, local Amish cheddar & a dash of Frank's Red Hot on local Matija Bread's ciabatta bun, son! Served with Katalina's Zesty Brussels Sprouts Hash. My meal came out displayed nicely with the sandwich buns both on the plate with one side having the chicken and hot sauce on it and the other the egg. It tasted good too as the chicken was moist and juicy while the breading was nice. The side of Brussels sprouts hash was flavorful too and I thought it was a creative and unique side that I haven't really seen elsewhere. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. I enjoyed my chicken sandwich and my wife liked her biscuit balls. read more

I've been Katalina's numerous times but have only managed to leave a review now. I've always loved the food, but haven't been here in about 4 years because I've been abroad and upon my return, found that the prices have gone up by about 40%. But I was in the area for a mid-morning meeting with a food-loving friend, and decided to pop in. I used to order the Mazatlan Pork sandwich, but decided to go with buttermilk fried chicken this time. Wasn't sure whether to pick the biscuit or the sandwich--both sounded great--but went with the Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich at the suggestion of the employee behind the counter. It was fantastic! The chicken was really well fried, moist, and tender, though I did not detect the Nashiville Hot Chicken spice in that it purportedly has; a bit more spice wouldn't hurt. The brussels sprout-corn cole slaw was a delicious and creative way to complement the chicken. I also really liked the peach-habañero jam, which I thought added some welcome kick to the overall sandwich. Finally, the kitchen was kind enough to substitute the standard ciabatta with multigrain bread, which I appreciated. Service was excellent: two different servers made the rounds to check how our food was, if we needed anything else, and to clear plates. Didn't really want the tortilla chips and still think the sandwiches are still a touch too pricey; would love to just order the sandwich (without chips) for $2 less, so $10.75. But the sandwich is terrific, and worth it for an occasional visit. read more

We tried Katalina's close to OSU for breakfast on a beautiful fall weekday. There is free customer parking in the kit behind the restaurant. Some of the street parking in the area is by permit only during certain times, so you need to pay attention. The interior is so small, I think it is best to try it when the weather provides for patio seating. It would be good to check out the menu online before you arrive since you order at the window as you enter. It's awkward to try to figure out what you want on the chalkboard menu while the line accumulates behind you. It's a lot to take in all at once. A diner regular noticed our indecision and gave us some good suggestions or we'd still be trying to decide what to get. We tried the Nutella pancake balls and they lived up to the hype. We split one order between the two of us and still took some of them home. A half order (if they do that?) would be plenty. We opted for the spicy bacon for our side. It was good and not overly zippy. The star of the show for me was the Pueblo BLT (with aioli on the side - not my thing, but husband loved it) with the regular bacon. I would definitely order this sandwich again. We split the sandwich, and still went home full. Husband liked the coffee - it was self-serve. You could also help yourself to water. . The food was a little pricey, but so is everything these days. We enjoyed our trip to Katalina's enough that we would definitely make a return visit. The friend I was visiting in Columbus picked us up carry out from this place. I had the pork and egg sandwich. It was amazing. I also tried the pancake balls. Those were a unique twist to a classic breakfast staple. If I come back to Columbus, this will be on my go-to list. read more
