This place is definitely a fan favorite for Columbus (and for my dad lol). We came here for Father's Day on a Sunday and there was quite a wait. We ordered and waited about 45 minutes for our food and had to wait in the parking lot. The food is good, but is it good for that long if a wait?! I really can't say enough nice things about this place. Katalina's was amazing! We stopped in for brunch on Sunday and we had heard there could be a line -- and they weren't joking. However, it moves pretty quickly as it's counter-service and then you're basically waiting for a table. There is a parking lot or you can park on the street. Once you do, get in line and wait your turn to order at the counter (this is what make the "line" seem long) and then wait for a table with your table number and take a seat. There is chalk on all the tables so you can draw on the tables! The location is great and the food is Mexican-inspired but with plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. They are known for their biscuit balls so I ordered the vegetarian biscuit balls with eggs and my husband ordered their Mexican French Toast. The biscuit balls were amazing and came with a peach habanero jam which we couldn't stop talking about. Prices are fare for Columbus and the staff was friendly and service great. Wow! This is a place you want to say you've been to in Columbus. I thought it would be pretty hipster, because it's decorated that way and the workers certainly are, but the customers are not. I feel like a tourist should visit though. Parking isn't bad. There's a lot that's free I think until 4. But I did parallel parking just past the lot because I didn't even notice they had a lot. The neighborhood is expensive so the prices definitely reflect this. When my two friends and I came at 9 in the morning on a Thursday, almost all the spaces were taken inside. It was TINY. I'm not kidding. I guess people know you gotta come early. I can't imagine being here on a weekend. My friend told me that she waited 30 minutes when she came around 11 on a Saturday. They do have a good handful of tables outside, so we sat at one. They're all bench tables with umbrellas. Lots of graffiti and drawings all over the tables. I ordered the pancake balls with some coffee. I will truthfully add that the dishes are kinda expensive. I spent $16 total. The pancake balls were almost $12 and the coffee is refillable. It's worth trying though. I got full. I ate maybe two, gave two to one friend, and the rest to my other friend. My friends got breakfast sandwiches. One had egg and bacon and the other friend had one that was egg, avocado, red peppers, aioli, provolone, and pulled pork. Their food came with Ohio tortilla chips. Really good and filling! I split the sandwich with one of my friends and gave her most of my pancake balls. It's worth splitting a sandwich. It's so much! I don't eat a lot for breakfast in the first place! Service was good. I scoured yelp to find a place for brunch that had great outdoor seating and also great food. Katalina's was the final choice and we were not disappointed. The staff was wonderful. Very friendly and accommodating when we asked to move outside when a table opened up. We got a order of the infamous Nutella pancake bites, the award winning breakfast tacos and the chicken sandwich. All were exquisite! The pancake bites were dangerously good. I don't know if I've had a pancake that good ever. So pillowy and soft with a crispy edge. I don't know the ingredients but they are definitely superior to the classic buttermilk. They come with a side of syrup and a side of bacon (also wonderful). The breakfast tacos were very good, but not so good that I won't try other items on the menu next time. I enjoyed them but they couldn't overshadow the pancake bites. I love love love the corn that came with. Maybe even more so than the tacos, but I am a corn fiend so you'll have to judge for yourself. The chicken sandwich was as good as it gets! A diner regular noticed our indecision and gave us some good suggestions or we'd still be trying to decide what to get. We tried the Nutella pancake balls and they lived up to the hype. We split one order between the two of us and still took some of them home. A half order (if they do that?) would be plenty. We opted for the spicy bacon for our side. It was good and not overly zippy. The star of the show for me was the Pueblo BLT (with aioli on the side - not my thing, but husband loved it) with the regular bacon. Well, isn't this just the cutest little place ever! Being a vegetarian, my friend recommended that we meet here for lunch because they have a lot of options for those who sway away from meat. It was super close to home and if it wasn't raining I could have walked there! Thankfully, they have a parking lot so driving there was hassle free. The hundreds of raving reviews they have also eased my mind and I knew I was in for a treat! There were several items on the menu that looked enticing but I settled on the breakfast tacos with vegetarian sausage. After all, the menu tells us they are award winning! It's also not super common to find vegetarian sausage so I was hella stoked to give it a try. After a short wait we snagged ourselves a table and not long after that we received our food. My tacos were so bright and colorful and came with a side of corn. I wish I would have taken a pic but I was so hungry I just dove right in. Let's just say, I ate every single bite and left my plate completely clean. The veggie sausage was really flavorful and I could hardly tell it wasn't real sausage! I was also pleasantly surprised that the crema on top was from Snowville Creamery. I love to see local businesses working and supporting other local businesses. I found this place on Yelp while on a trip to Ohio and I was intrigued by their menu and the photos. It looked like a cute local spot with creative food and a great space. Upon arrival I immediately felt a little unwelcomed because there were a lot of signs telling me all the things I couldn't do. I guess because it's sitting in the middle of a residential area, they have to enforce and be quite adamant about their rules. Upon arrival, a sign for masks was confusing so we didn't put them on but we're told to once we got inside. Another sign regarding dogs which I guess they allowed on the patio at one point but now they weren't and then again when I sat down that basically said you can only sit if you ordered food. I get it, I'm sure they don't want solicitors in their small environment but I also got the impression as a paying customer with no dog that I better not mess up or it'll end up as another sign. The food was great, I got the breakfast tacos and they had the perfect balance of hearty and fresh on them. I really liked them. The only issue I had was with the corn that came with it, it was almost like elote without the cream sauce and only the seasoning so it made the corn a little overbearing because it was just seasoning and no sauce. Overall I give them 4 stars because the area is beautiful especially in the fall while all the leaves are changing and the place is very cool to see. I stopped by here a couple of Sundays ago for brunch with my wife. We found Katalinas by looking for a brunch spot and it was one of the top rated ones. Whenever we arrived at the restaurant I could tell that we choose wisely as the line was out the door. Katalinas is the type of place where you walk up to the counter and place your order, pay, get a number and then find a seat. They had both indoor and outdoor seating and all of it was full whenever we got our number. So we ended up trying to stake out a table and eventually got one outside. All of the outside seating had umbrellas which was good since the day we were there it was really hot. Sadly the umbrellas didn't cover the full tables with shade but it was enough for my wife and I to be in it. On all of the tables outside they had permanent markers and it seemed like it was encouraged to color on the tables and other items which was fun. For brunch on this day I decided to go with the Breakfast Chick'wich while my wife went with the Southern Brown Betty Biscuit Balls. The menu described mine as a Southern fried Gerber chicken breast brined in buttermilk and dredged in flour and crushed local Shagbark corn chips, topped with a sunny-side up egg, local Amish cheddar & a dash of Frank's Red Hot on local Matija Bread's ciabatta bun, son! Served with Katalina's Zesty Brussels Sprouts Hash. My meal came out displayed nicely with the sandwich buns both on the plate with one side having the chicken and hot sauce on it and the other the egg. It tasted good too as the chicken was moist and juicy while the breading was nice. The side of Brussels sprouts hash was flavorful too and I thought it was a creative and unique side that I haven't really seen elsewhere. I've always loved the food, but haven't been here in about 4 years because I've been abroad and upon my return, found that the prices have gone up by about 40%. I used to order the Mazatlan Pork sandwich, but decided to go with buttermilk fried chicken this time. Wasn't sure whether to pick the biscuit or the sandwich--both sounded great--but went with the Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken Sandwich at the suggestion of the employee behind the counter. It was fantastic! The chicken was really well fried, moist, and tender, though I did not detect the Nashiville Hot Chicken spice in that it purportedly has; a bit more spice wouldn't hurt. The brussels sprout-corn cole slaw was a delicious and creative way to complement the chicken. I also really liked the peach-habañero jam, which I thought added some welcome kick to the overall sandwich. Finally, the kitchen was kind enough to substitute the standard ciabatta with multigrain bread, which I appreciated. Service was excellent: two different servers made the rounds to check how our food was, if we needed anything else, and to clear plates. Didn't really want the tortilla chips and still think the sandwiches are still a touch too pricey; would love to just order the sandwich (without chips) for $2 less, so $10.75. But the sandwich is terrific, and worth it for an occasional visit. read more
