Customer service was great. Emma you rock! The ambiance is perfect for young crowd and group of friends wanting to get loose and have a great time. The food I felt like it was very heavy handed on salt. Otherwise it was delicious and just felt fun. If you bring children it's probably best to eat outside or come before 5pm as thats when I think it will be calmer and the music videos and the fun drinking game for birthday guests may not be done as much. First impressions are that I should have gone sooner! I noticed this place open by the Simi Valley mall a few months ago and initially assumed it was another half effort restaurant that will barely survive a few months. This mall is notorious for businesses disappearing after a short time of being open. Kalaveras is exactly the type of business we need in Simi. High quality food, unique vibe and great drinks. The Chamoyada was the most refreshing Margarita type of drink I've ever had. The service was fast and attentive. I checked their restaurant website and it seems they have many locations throughout So Cal! This area is needed a business like Kalaveras. read more

This place is over rated. Service was horrible sat there whe after ordering with no more service. Drinks stayed empty . Food was blah . I ordered the chicken green enchiladas. The presentation of the enchiladas was beautiful but the food was blot. The chicken was hard and fatty had really no flavor at all very dry. My son ordered the chicken tenders and fries and the fries were so cold, frozen cold, not a good experience and my other child ordered a wet burrito a chicken one in the chicken was blah. The service was horrible. The chips and salsa that they give you the chips are stale. I told the waiter about our issue and she didn't have any concern whatsoever. She just heard it and left. I told her you reset here with no drink refills the whole time you never came back to service her table and she didn't care. read more

It was okay. I loved the look, but after a while, I got tired of the music videos on the TVs. There was a birthday at the table next to us... the restaurant gave them a sample size margarita and encouraged the person to chug it as they played a gross music video. I was not happy about that. This place is such a vibe!!! It was super crowded and the atmosphere was super awesome! The music and beats were on point and everyone looked like they were having a good time. I went last night for my birthday with my fiancé and 2 kids. The kids had a blast! They loved the food and music! We had a few shots of patron and a couple beers and chicken tacos! Great service that's the 3 stars. Drinks are good but food is very mid. Just decent. They have a great happy hour menu. If you go there for a birthday be warned- because they won't tell you. They charge $20 for the celebration that they do and then for the shot too! Seems fair if they advertise it and/or warn you but to do it unknowingly and then see it on the bill is something. Would go again but not for a birthday and only for happy hour because none of the food is worth the regular price of it. read more

We started going to kalaveras in Simi Valley because we enjoyed the Taco Tuesday. Unfortunately, we probably won't be going back. I walked in about 6:25pm. The two people behind the desk didn't even acknowledge my presence let alone offer to seat me. Luckily my daughter had gotten there before me and flagged me down that she had a table. The two people never even looked at me. There were six people in our party. It took over 15 minutes for the server to come take our drink order and we got a couple of happy hour appetizers. Wanted to order more before happy hour ended but couldn't get another order in before happy hour ended and we still hadn't ordered our dinner yet. Our server was very nice but obviously had more tables than she could handle. We had to ask several times to order before she finally got around to it. One thing we liked initially was how quickly the food came out after ordering but that is no longer the case. Took close to a half hour to finally get our food. Normally the tacos come with a green salsa and at least one slice of lime which were missing on two of our orders. Trying to get those and some extra limes was nearly impossible. I finally went and stood at the bar trying to get the bartenders attention but he was busy talking with the cooks. After standing there for some time, I had to interrupt his conversation as everyone's food was getting cold. My grandson wanted a coupe more tacos..once again the whole process of ordering and getting the tacos was very long. Same with getting refills on drinks or water. They are definitely way under staffed. I have read many times on our local sites about people complaining how loud it is in there. It really is a problem. The server can barely hear us and we have to repeat things several times. Forget about having a conversation at the table..it just isn't possible over the loud music playing. My grandson described it as chaotic which is spot on. The last time we were there we ordered food to go to for a couple of sick family members. That order was all messed up and we didn't get what we paid for but decided to give the place another chance. Before the night was over we were already googling other area restaurants to see who has taco Tuesday specials and will be trying them in the future. Our bill average was over $20 dollars per person and two of those people were children. So not especially cheap. Unfortunate because we like the food but the lack of service outweighs that. read more

We had a great experience here last week. Great service, good food and fun lively and beautifully thought out decor. This is something Simi has needed. The speciality cocktails are great. We had the batbacoa (excellent), enchiladas verdes (super tasty, spicy and beautiful presentation) and the gueso fundido (huge portion). The only thing I could say would be to bring the appetizer before the main plates. Definitely try this place out!!! read more

The food quality and how it is cooked has gone downhill a lot! Since they opened, from being mine and my husbands go to place for birthdays, to finding out they charge $20 for them to play the birthday thing and come over to the table. (No where charges for this) and they don't even tell you, only tell you they charge for extra shots other than the birthday person. This is deceitful, and should let you know. I'd rather just get 2 shots or stay home at that point. The food has gone down, I got food poisoning from them this weekend and was down all weekend not able to eat or basically get out of bed! I will not be going back here as this is not good at all. Shows there main thing is a bar not food. The service as well has gone down hill, we had this server once for my husbands birthday with my dad and brother there and my dad had to pretty much yell at this guy as he was just sitting in a booth talking with other servers. And 2 Tuesday's ago we got the same guy did not care about service. Did not check in on us, barely came to take orders and talked down to us. Having to get the hostess to find him so we could get our check is not good at all! It is so loud in the restaurant that it's hard to have a conversation and this is due to music. I wish they would turn it down during the day and weeknights and weekends they can advertise that it's more of a club then a restaurant Overall this should have been a great addition to simi! Waiter was so annoying trying to sell us bottles súper persistent I guess that's why I decided to not purchase anything due to being so annoyed could of just let us looked through the flyer but didn't even get the chance too he told us one by one what he had available super pricey too.
