We were at Mitsuwa and passed by this sweets place. It's next to the I saw them advertise a homemade strawberry daifuku. It looked pretty good. I gave in and got one. There's a small area to sit and wait for the food. It's next to the Mochimochi Kai Sweets and Kai Creamery. The mochi is thin and soft wrapping around a huge strawberry surrounded by red bean paste. It was great. I really enjoyed it.
As I was in the Mitsuwa marketplace, I wanted a bubble tea and came across this spot. Honestly, what reeled me in was the macaroon selection, which I picked one up to take to my little one. My friend was looking forward to ordering a soufle pancake, but we didn't have the 20 minutes required for them to make it. We ended up ordering a taro coconut bubble tea with pearls and the Nutella bubble tea with pearls. I loved the taro coconut. Both flavors shine thru. I usually order taro bubble tea anywhere I go, but I also love coconut so this combination was delightful! The Nutella bubble tea was nice, tasted more chocolate than hazelnut, but it was good nonetheless. I choose a kitty kat macaroon for my daughter, she was delightfully surprised when I gave it to her at home. The lady at the counter was fast and efficient, and our drinks were ready pretty quickly. We went in during a weekday, so it was quiet with only 1 other person there waiting for their order. I would definitely go back to try more macaroons and definitely get that taro coconut bubble tea again.

They have ice cream now, which is super soft and creamy and comes in lots of Asian flavors like matcha, black sesame, and hojicha. I've previously tried their triple soft serve ($9) which comes in a waffle bowl and lets you choose any three flavors you wish to try. Their three most popular flavors remain the matcha, black sesame, and purple potato. On my most recent visit, I tried their Mont Blanc ($7.50) which comes with your choice of ice cream and purée topping. The staff member was kind enough to include a matcha-black sesame swirl for my ice cream when I couldn't choose between the two. She also recommended the purple sweet potato purée for my mont blanc. Truthfully, I wasn't a big fan of the purée topping as I felt it was a little too overly sweet and dry. But, I loved the ice cream and would definitely recommend getting that.
A super cute dessert cafe inside of Mitsuwa! This shop offers so much from boba to crepes to macarons and even some savory options like curry! My friend said the matcha latte is delicious here but I didn't try anything else besides their macarons. They have adorable character shaped macarons that I could not resist! The pikachu was mango flavored and I also tried a pineapple one, both not too flavorful unfortunately but the taro coconut was full of delicious taro flavor and definitely my favorite! I'll be back for that one!Service was also friendly and quick!
Kai sweets expanded and took over the previous ice cream stand in the middle of mitsuwa. The wife saw the mont Blanc on Instagram and insisted to try it out. We got the purple yam soft serve with the purple yam mont Blanc on top. They also have black sesame flavor as well but we didn't know that we can mix flavors between soft serve and the mont Blanc. It's a fun dessert to eat and the flavor was spot on. The soft serve was unfortunately not the thick and creamy texture that I was hoping for but it was still good nonetheless. I will return to try the black sesame flavor.

I think they have the most flavor in the toppings and the best chewy texture for mochi donuts. I wish they were open longer but they close whenever they run out which varies daily. But these are the perfect bites and worth the trip if you are traveling around the area. The flavors are perfect! Matcha and Black sesame are my personal favorites.
Clearly the star of this cafe are the beautiful macrons. The macron shell taste good but the cream filling was a little too sweet for me. I also got milk tea with boba and some boba were very gummy in the center. Next time I would get the drink without boba. Staff were wonderful and made orders quickly too.
Been there multiple times. Its located in Mitsuwa supermarket in Edgewater. They have bubble tea, crepes and other meal things. We usually get crepes or bubble tea there almost every time we go shopping in that supermarket. They have multiple kinds of bubble and crepes. I recommend it to anyone who goes to Mitsuwa supermarket to check this place out.

Customer Service: The staff member did not really pay attention to us while we were looking at the menu nor did they greet us. We had to get their attention to let them know that we wanted some macaroons. The macaroons: My little sister said that the design was very detailed and cute. The taste was not all that there and the filling made it too sweet. Also, it was a bit hard when she chewed down on it. Bubble tea: The bubble tea here was not that very tasty. I have had better in New York City. Overall: I do not know if I would be tempted to come back here and give some other items a try.

Kai Sweets is located inside Mitsuwa Marketplace in Edgewater, NJ. Kai Sweets offers a variety of hot/iced drinks, bubble teas, and sweets such as Macarons, Strawberry Daifuku, Cream Puffs, and Japanese Crepes. Since 2019, mochimochi Kai Sweets started to offer Mochi Donuts. I love mochi donuts and enjoy the unique texture - springy, a bit chewy, and dense. They are not overly sweet like donuts from Dunkin' Donuts. The mochi donuts from mochimochi Kai Sweets always taste fresh and half a dozen donuts is $20.00. Cash or credit card is accepted. I always like to buy a box to bring home. This most recent time, they had an Earl Grey flavor and I got the Matcha glaze with white chocolate, Black sesame glaze, and White chocolate glaze with oreo. All of them are so exquisite, succulent, and heavenly! From Kai Sweets, I got two macaroons. The totoro and labubu were too irresistible to not get. The design is probably not 100% the same as the original, but it was very cute. The macaroon shell was so soft and the cream inside was very good. After you order, you get a receipt with your order#. When order is ready, they will call your number. read more
Kai Sweets is a dessert stall/cafe inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace. Just a disclaimer, this review is only for their bubble tea. They have very limited flavors, so I went with a black milk tea with boba (~$7). Service was super quick. To put it bluntly... the drink was AWFUL. I already knew it was going to be bad when I saw that it was a strange light peach color. It just tasted like plain milk with absolutely NO brewed tea in it. It had the consistency of a frappe, which I wasn't a fan of. I prefer my milk tea on ice, not blended... but they never asked. They probably use artificial powders and syrups. Three sips later and it was in the garbage! I would pass on the bubble tea. They have an extensive menu with a lot going on... but maybe too much going on for its own good. It feels a little too "all over the place," if you know what I mean. They have coffee, shaved ice, crepes, mochi donuts, macarons, daifuku, ice cream, and even savory meals (curry, udon, katsu). So many options, but are they able to perfect every one? I'm willing to try more things... Some of their pastries look promising, so I'll give that a go for next time. read more
This is a wonderful sweet bakery store inside Mitsua. It's for take out, not space to sit inside the store. Very clean and colorful. They have waffle pop (waffle that looks like ice cream bar), mochi donuts, bubble teas and few other types of bakery snacks. We ordered the cookies and cream waffle pop and the strawberry mochi donut. The barista handed us order within a minute. Super quick service and easy checkout. We loved both waffle and donut. They were so soft and chewy. If we are in Mitsua again, will stop by for more sweet snacks in future. read more

I tried the Nutella Bubba Tea and taro with coconut. They were delicious. I wanted to try the soft pancakes, but it took 25 minutes. I appreciated that the server told me how long it would take, and they were also very friendly. read more

We were at Mitsuwa and stumbled upon Kai Sweets Cafe. It was a hot day and we were craving some bubble tea. I got the Rasberry strawberry with green tea and lychee boba. So refreshing and delicious. I'd come back just for this. My Daughter got the Taro milk tea with boba and she indicated that it was also delicious. Excellent selection of desserts and savory items to try next time. Efficient and friendly service. read more
I love their mochi donuts here. I drive over an hour to pick up donuts from this place. I wish they were closer !! It's also nice that they are in a market place. While I was there I picked up some Ramen because it was in the same market area. Very convenient if you want to make a day out of it. read more

Finally got to try the mochi donuts! And they had even more flavors than previously mentioned. I got one of each that they had (minus plain) and they were even running a Buy 5 Get 1 Free promotion, so you know I got the half dozen. The donuts are kind of off to the side and you can see all of them clearly labeled in the glass case. In my photo you'll see: Dark Chocolate, Strawberry Cream, Matcha, Yuzu Citrus, Cookies & Cream, and Black Sesame. They have a very squishy texture like you'd expect from mochi and the flavors were right on. Definitely a nice alternative to your typical donuts. The employee who helped me was super helpful and the transaction was nice & quick with barely any contact, if any. (Still getting used to mentioning these kinds of things these days but hopefully it's good to know!) I'd highly recommend! read more

These are some very eye pleasing looking donuts! I am not a mochi person but I do I want to try this out. It was surprising good. I was expecting it to be sticky and gooey but it was quite fluffy like an actual donut. It also wasn't too sweet. My favorite is the raspberry flavor. I didn't really taste anything from the matcha one. This would make a nice gift for someone :) read more

Got the hojicha ice cream with the purple potato Mont Blanc on top. The nutty and milder flavor of the hojicha balanced out the sweetness of the Mont Blanc (though I think the matcha ice cream would've been a better pairing.) read more

I've been here several times and always get the strawberry daifuku. It's made to order so it takes a couple of minutes, but never too long. A little sweet but since you're ordering just one (usually) per person, it's a perfect small dessert. The mochi is super soft and the red bean is sweet, cut by the sweet tartness and freshness of the strawberry in the middle. read more
I am very happy that mochi donuts made its way to North Jersey. My very first time eating these donuts was actually inside Mitsuwa in Honolulu about a year prior, so this really brought back memories for me. The donuts are lightly and delicately fried. It has just the right amount of chew to the texture without being too dense or gummy. My favorite flavors were cookies 'n creme, black sesame, and yuzu citrus. None of the flavors tasted artificial at all. The yuzu tasted especially fresh with a nice zesty kick. I would definitely come back to Mitsuwa to grab some more donuts and pair it with a matcha soft serve. What can I say? I got a sweet tooth! read more

Donuts are delicious. They have a bit more chew, flavors are good, and they look cool! Got to try their newest limited flavor Apple Harvest! The donut is awesome! Imagine a cider donut flavor topped with a apple chip that adds an extra burst of apple flavor. Also, the contrasting texture is very much appreciated as it adds a crunch to the donut. read more

I can not express how good these are!!! Only issue is that they're so good that the place is constantly selling out so you end up waiting! Waited on the yuzu and sesame but by the time I came back the dark chocolate was sold out. You win some you lose some, I'm thinking about how I can never eat a normal donut again, these were just that good. Soft and fluffy but chewy and they so accurately represent the flavor they claim to be. Favorite flavors were black sesame, cafe mocha, and yuzu! NJ's first mochi donut has landed at this cafe in Mitsuwa market. Lightly fried, no grease at all. Texture is chewy but light. Light - Not dense or gummy at all. Medium sweetness. Only the toppings have flavors not the donut itself. Some are black sesame, strawberry, ube coconut and Carmel almond. $3 each with tax. Service is patient and fittingly, very sweet. We had some questions which were answered courteously. No line, though we visited during the day. We were told they have sold out by evening so try to arrive as early as possible. Plenty of seating in the front of the store. Weekends can be busy so you may have to wait or take these babies to go. I believe they have a box so they will get home safely. As for the many other item I haven't tried? Not sure. Everything looks fresh though on the higher side of reasonably priced. Mitsuwa itself is the perfect foodie day trip for anyone who likes all things Japanese. Or if you are looking to up your donut game. Run don't walk. read more
Came here on a Tuesday around 12pm, and there was a slight wait to get into Mitsuwa, ~15-20. They don't have carts inside, so be sure to get one on your way in. I've been meaning to try these for the longest time! The texture is so unique and I'm here for it; the donuts were soft yet dense, chewy yet light. Unlike other mochi donuts I've tried, it's not greasy at all. Glazes: Strawberry Cream, Yuzu Citrus, Oreo, Matcha, Black Sesame, and Chocolate. My ranking: 1. Out of all the glazes, the Black Sesame was the best. The aroma and taste definitely hit the nail. 2. I loved the Oreo crunch 3. The Chocolate reminded me of Dunkin's chocolate glaze, so I was a bit underwhelmed (I still enjoyed it) 4. Matcha was on the sweeter side and you couldn't really tell that it was matcha from taste alone 5. Strawberry Cream reminded me of freeze dried strawberries, but the taste was barely in the glaze 6. The Yuzu was a bit too tangy for me, and contrary to popular opinion, this was my least favorite Can't wait to come back! read more

I have been seing these cute macarons online for a long time now. It has been on my food list to try out. The location is inside the mitsuwa marketplace. Theres free parking. Each macaron cost about $3 it is a bit pricey than I usually pay for a macaron but not complaining though because these had the cutest details and love the characters. I loved the teddy bear macaron. I wished it had what flavor the characters had. read more

Looking for something new to try?!?! Check out Kai Sweets' brand new MOCHI MOCHI Donuts!! They just opened up an additional section next to their cafe counter in Mitsuwa to sell their MOCHI MOCHI Donuts. The donuts are a bit chewier than regular donuts because "mochi rice flour" is used as an ingredient and less greasy. Very tasty as well - there are only 3 flavors now (strawberry, matcha green tea and black sesame), but more to come soon!!! Even tasted good after refrigerated overnight! Also, the donuts look so cute and may serve as a nice gift. read more
I normally come here for the curry and the crepes. Great value on the crepes and many different good flavors and toppings. The curry was the best deal in the place because of the generous curry sauce as opposed to the other places like Wateishoku Kaneda that gives you a tiny serving. I can no longer highly recommend the curry now though because they cut back the meat portions of the beef curry ($8.50). Not happy about that so they lost stars for that. Time to explore other options for my go to curry place here. read more
