Main complaints are the no sashimi and free water/tea. As per all AYCE, you should charge for leftover food. However, they stat also on the menu they'll charge if there is an excess of wasted appetizers and rice. There are no options on the AYCE menu for the sushi without rice. All your sushi needed to come in a roll or paired with rice. Seems a bit unfair. No water or drinks available without charge. Only had tea and water bottles that were 2-3$ each. Sushi was fine but it's more in the middle of the pack in price in the area for AYCE sushi, not including the price of drinks. However, there are no sashimi options, they sneakily charge for water (they ask you if you want water before the menus come out and it's a charge for bottled water, they said they don't have tap for some reason which idk if that's even allowed) and miso soup is also an extra charge per order. I'm pretty sure I also got food poisoning here but I think it was just 2 people out of our rather large group that did, so maybe be careful if you have a weak stomach. BANNED FOR LIFE OVER A PIECE OF EEL?!! This is the review I refrained from posting over 10 months ago. Arigato has been our absolute favorite sushi place in all of Hudson / Bergen county, and even after they raised their prices and stopped including soup, beef negimaki or dessert, their all-you-can-eat sushi deal was still SPECTACULAR, as was the choices and quality. Not only have we been here dozens of times over the years, we have recommended this place to others and have brought many of our friends, celebrated occasions, etc. The manager and staff have always gone the extra mile, even know our preferred table because we were REGULARS! Then one evening, about 10 months ago, we went to Arigato to have a celebratory sushi feast. The restaurant was crowded and we sat in the front, near the sushi prep counter. Everything was amazing as always except for one piece of eel sushi that my wife ordered, usually cooked, came out near frozen. She politely asked that it be re-done, which they did, and all was fine, or so we thought. All of a sudden, one of the sushi chefs started staring at my wife. A minute later, our server came over to reprimand us for the half piece of uneaten sushi left on a plate of 4 signature rolls, 32 pieces which we had just devoured. He sternly reminded us about the "rule", no sushi can be left behind on the plate, not even the lonely half piece. This was a bit odd. We ordered more sushi and another couple of pieces of that delicious eel roll, done exactly as before. The server explained that they will not make more cooked eel for us, and that it has been requested of him to ask us both to leave the restaurant. Apparently, we had dis-respected the sushi chef or something by our minor critique of ONE PIECE OF EEL, and would no longer be welcome there. My wife and I were mortified, being scrutinized by the "sushi police" then being asked to leave in the middle of our meal, which I refused to do. I pulled out my phone camera to document what was transpiring here, and said MY WIFE AND I are here celebrating her successful recovery from surgery and enjoying our meal, so if you would like, go ahead and CALL THE POLICE! We will not be ABUSED no matter how much we love this place. Which they promptly did. We did leave, waited for the police in the parking lot, in absolute shock. Arigato did not charge us for our ruined evening. A police report was made. The crazed sushi chef was outside yelling and screaming, shooting daggers at my wife and I with his eyes. The police said to go, that we are not banned forever, to come back another time. Today was my wife's milestone birthday and we both were longing for what used to be our FAVORITE all-you-can eat sushi place, Arigato of Edgewater. So we took the leap of faith that our little "incident" from last year would all be water under the bridge, and that by now maybe that crazed sushi chef would hopefully not be working there any longer! So we made a reservation and RETURNED. When we got there, we were happy to see the female manager, who we've known for years, come to the door to greet us. Well not exactly. She came outside the front door to block us from entering and to explain that the demented sushi chef was actually the OWNER, he clearly remembers that night when he was disrespected and called the police, and that we are BANNED FOR LIFE! She genuinely looked remorseful and also explained that we are not the first customers that he has taken issue with and will no longer allow to come back! As I was in the entrance way, he saw and remembered us, and slammed the door in our faces. The manager told us he didn't want even the remotest possibility that there might be something not to our liking, that could cause trouble again. And so, tonight, on my wife's 60th birthday, we were BANNED FOR LIFE OVER A PIECE OF EEL. And I will now post what happened here, on Google, Yelp, Facebook, Instagram etc. with a WARNING: The food is mostly AWESOME. If you are accidentally served a frozen piece of eel, don't complain, don't dare leave even a sliver on your plate. It will be seen as disrespect, even when accompanied by a "loving critique". So AYCE sushi spots are usually a hit or a miss. This one exceeded expectations. Food: we mainly came for the sushi and plate after plate it didn't disappoint. Got to try a bit of everything but the one with the seared salmon on top was a hit for all. We didn't try any appetizers or know if they were even included in the AYCE menu. Don't remember if it was on the menu. The one with the soft shell crab was barely noticeable but still good. Some rolls had more rice than others but I feel like it balanced out well. Service: sushi came out exceptionally fast. Like 5 min after we ordered. All other places we had to wait much longer to get the food out and they don't always bring out everything we ordered. Not the case here. Presentation was nice, sushi was fresh and delicious and it hit the craving. What I really liked was that it seemed like almost all of their special rolls were part of the AYCE menu. Ambiance: the place can accommodate a few large parties but not many. On the smaller side but nice area. Not too loud, good place for a date or simply to catch up with people. Parking: very small parking section to the right of the sushi place. Can fit at most 8 cars. I've tried giving this place a few tries before making judgment, but I continuously come to the same conclusion and it hasn't improved. Their fish quality is poor as you can taste the fishiness of the cuts (not a good sign) and the rolls taste more of rice and tempura than actual sushi. I think it's ridiculous they don't offer tap water and force you to pay $2 for each bottle of water, especially considering it's an all-you-can-eat establishment. I'd recommend the other local sushi places that do it better and do it right. read more

For a party of two after tip and tax and if you don't order any other additional specialty rolls that aren't on the buffet menu, you should expect to pay nothing more than $75-$85. They also allow you to BYOB. I've been going here pretty frequently for the past six months. The service is also great. They're pretty quick with picking up dirty plates and bringing you back your new plate. I would say the only negative thing I have to say is that they could add a few more interesting role. I'm giving 4 stars because the menu was small - there was no miso soup, the kitchen items were limited, there was no sashimi options (only nigiri), and there was no dessert options. When you compare this place against Sushi Village or Sushi House in Teaneck, the options just are not as much. TLDR Food tastes normal but sushi portions are small and inconsistent. I would not go out of my way to come back unless it was for a dinner box. The good: the dinner box for $24 is good value. We chose the beef negimaki and 9 pcs sashimi and it was served with miso soup, California roll, and shumai, all for $24. Good variety, would recommend this. The so-so: regular sushi rolls here (salmon avocado roll and salmon roll pictured below) are small with less fish than other comparable sushi places. The portion is acceptable but not great and inconsistent between different pieces of the same roll. The bad: sashimi portions. The price is $3 for two pieces of sashimi, which is not bad despite the smaller than average portions we initially received. However, the size is inconsistent and our last order of salmon sashimi came with two tiny pieces that looked as if one small piece of salmon sashimi were cut in half and served as two pieces. Those two small pieces of salmon were not worth $3. Definite ripoff. Also, their "special rolls" are extremely tiny for the price. The size of the roll was identical to a regular roll but double the price. I ordered the samurai roll and not only was the portion of yellowtail super super flat and tiny (see photo lol, this is laughable to be honest), the size of the roll was the same/smaller than my salmon avocado roll. When I go to other sushi restaurants and pay extra for a special roll, I receive rolls that are double the size as a regular roll. This small size may be acceptable for all-you-can-eat, but definitely not for a-la carte ordering. Finally, I think it's strange to not offer free tap water. I would recommend Arigato if you're looking for a lower-price ($30/pp as of 8/1/23) AYCE sushi restaurant in the area with a short wait time for food. On the plus side, the rolls came out only a couple minutes after ordering, which was a pleasant surprise for a packed AYCE restaurant during peak dinner time on a Tuesday night. Most of their special rolls were pretty good--I was a huge fan of the Kamikaze and Buzzer Beater rolls, definitely try if you're into spicy/crunchy! On the flip side, I do wish the menu offering for AYCE was larger. Compared to other places that are similarly priced, it was a bit of a let-down that they don't offer sashimi, kitchen dinner items, or dessert as part of the menu, and we didn't realize this until we were already sitting down. Little things to note: some of the rolls did also have much more rice than fish and we never got one of our orders despite reminding our server, BUT these could definitely just be symptoms of a very busy night. This was a strange AYCE sushi experience. I've never been to an all you can eat sushi buffet that was so limited. For dinner AYCE of $35, you don't get rice or soup or any sweets. The water and tea are also additional. Their hot dishes were very limited and don't include even half of what other AYCE sushi restaurants have. They don't have sashimi options either. Their signature rolls don't have a lot of variety. They have a lot of choices but most are either fried or heavy with cream cheese or mayo. Possibly the worst all you can eat I've been at. The sushi is pre made which you receive within two minutes of ordering. You might think it's a good thing but I rather wait 10-15 minutes for fresh sushi than to have sushi pre made in plastic, cold and stale. You order tempura, and the tempura is greasy and cold, not warm and crispy like you expect a shrimp tempura sushi to be. The menu is very limited, most of them have cream cheese which I believe they strategically did to save cost. You have to pay for water, the waiters are all young and don't even come around to ask if you need something. You have to waive at them whenever you need something and I asked my waiter for Coca-Cola twice before I got it. The fish is fresh. The service is good. The prices are really good. The bento box for dinner is $20 and it is a good price for what you get. It comes with miso soup to start. I also ordered the "all-you-can-eat" sushi dinner for $28. It is everything on the menu and you can have as much as you want. This is not a bad deal. And you can order all the time as long as you finish everything on your plate before you re-order. It is smart as there is no wastage of food. The draw back is some of the flavors and the way things are made. It is fresh. But the miso soup is just soup. No nori. No tofu. No nothing. Just the broth itself. The rolls are small. I mean small and thin. These are not big rolls. Thus it is easy to eat a lot. The tuna maki was pathetic. Looked like a beginner made the roll. The tuna was tiny. The nori not wrapped around completely. No wasabi in it. No wasabi on the sushi. It was on the side. This is sushi for the mass market. Again, it is fresh and fine. For an AYCE sushi place and it being $30pp, I can't complain. If you're diving in thinking you'll get omakase tiered sushi....you are at the wrong spot. My friend and I made reservations for 7PM for a Monday and there were decent amount of people. Definitely call to reserve though. The service is friendly and prompt and the rolls come out face too. AND it's byob! Yessss. The menu itself is pretty extensive. You have a good variety of rolls to choose from. Your standard ones to the creative ones. Honestly, when you order similar sounding ones (like similar ingredients) they are all kind of the same.lol. The down side was the staffembers who bring the sushi over don't point out which roll is which. So if you want to order the same one for another round (like we did) there might be a chance you order the wrong one.lol. Also...to address the whole "there's more rice than fish"...I mean, yes and no. I don't know, I guess part of me expect it to be kind of like that so I'm not like mad about it. Content (roll wise) meaning the fish pieces are about the size of what you would give to a baby so they don't choke - sushi pieces they're just ok but too much rice. Length meaning its about 4 pieces worth if I were to line them l up next to the typical 6 pieces - but they chop it up thinly into 6 so you get the illusion it's the same. So regarding the menu, once they bring you the order, they give you the same paper you place the order from, just with the previous order(s) crossed out. Normally other places would give you a new sheet when ordering and I get that it's a waste paper wise, but if the place is trying to "save money" by just giving the same sheet, that's not a good look. read more

Tried this AYCE sushi spot for the very first time last night. We ordered so many items and enjoyed it all! I liked that the sushi pieces were just the right size. There wasn't a ton of rice in either the rolls or sushi which made it so much more enjoyable. I also liked the seasoning in the sushi rice. Thinking about it now makes me drool. I loved the geisha roll in the rice paper. It tasted so delicate. Everything was fresh and tasty. It was $28/pp and completely worth it. The food came out very quickly. For appetizers, we ordered their fried soft shell crab. Loved it. We also got the beef negamaki. Very good. Their shrimp teriyaki was also delish. I also recommend their mussel TNT. Mussels cooked with mayo and sriracha seasoning. Even their ice creams were good. There are a few reasons why I didn't give them 5 stars though. I wish they offered some sort of udon stir fry or soup option. The list of cooked items were a tad limited as compared to other ayce sushi places that I've been to. If someone in the group doesn't eat sushi, it would greatly limit what they could order off the ayce option. They ran out of hot tea and wasn't able to refill my tea for the rest of the meal which was odd. Their valet parking lot is also very small. We parked in the muni lot that was located about 1/2 block away. There was also a 45 min wait on a Friday night which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Long waits = fresher food as it means good business and food is moving. It was just a negative for me last night as I happened to be hangry. They take reservations so if you plan to go here, definitely call ahead. We all liked it here and will def be back. They are byob. Next time we will stop by Mitsuwa to pick up some plum wine to have with our dinner here. read more
