Typically we come here on our way home from upstate. This is primarily a takeout establishment. There are no customer restrooms. There is no indoor seating. There are two tables outside if you would like to sit and eat. The service is very matter of fact. Overall this is a solid place to get every day sushi, affordable, good quality and tasty. It is pretty similar to sushi yasaka in the upper west side in Manhattan. If you are going for the best deal piece for piece, Chirashi deluxe is your best bet, followed by the sushi deluxe. If you don't want to think about what you want, you want a variety or you have a lot of people, just get the platters. I did order the shrimp tempura box as well. For great value sushi, sashimi, and rolls, this is our go to place. It is take-out only but still nice when you are in the mood for Japanese but on a budget. Usually get the chef's choice sushi/sashimi platter (small is plenty for two for us with an added roll). My favorites are the spider roll and the angry shrimp. read more

This is definitely one of the most pleasant culinary surprises I've experienced so far this year. First off, don't let the takeout-esque vibe throw you off. Personally, I wasn't quite sure of the place myself initially but decided to give it a shot after I drove by the location again. It was a good decision. The inside is just a sushi bar/kitchen area, not a dining area. There are a few tables outside in their parking lot area (which is a plus). I decided to try both an entree and sushi option to see how the food fared on both ends. The beef teriyaki lunch was actually excellent. The flavor of the sauce was A+ and the beef was tender, savory and well-cooked. Maybe I was hungry, but I wolfed it down very quickly. The tuna roll was also quite good. The fish was fresh with excellent texture and the rice/fish ratio was just right. Word was the chef is quite experienced and based on the food I had, this definitely was reflected in the quality of both the beef and tuna dishes I had. The price to food quality ratio was also solid and definitely offered good value for the money. The folks here are super friendly and really pleasant to customers. The order came out in a timely manner and I personally think this is a real hidden gem in the area. I will definitely be back as I really enjoyed both aspects of my excellent lunch. First time trying and it did not disappoint. I ordered hwe dup bap. It had the perfect portion of each fish and salad. The bimbimbap sauce was perfect with the bowl. It also came with sushi rice and a side of miso soup. Definitely looking forward to trying other menu items. read more

Akasaka is very much a hole in the wall sort of place, and a true hidden gem. Although the prices aren't cheap, they are definitely very reasonable, particularly for the quality. Very great service! The chef greeted me himself and offered me a few suggestions on the menu. I got the spicy salmon roll, the weekly special tuna belly and the suno mono. The suno mono was so refreshing to start with, definitely a must. The spicy salmon was so fresh. It was my first time trying tuna belly so I was a little nervous but I actually loved it! I ordered a couple of party platters for Father's Day. The sushi, sashimi, and rolls were good; however, my customer experience was horrible. Unfortunately, my dad wasn't feeling well to have lunch with us. We asked for a couple of additional carryout containers so we could split the platters with him to enjoy later. Despite sharing my dad's situation, they stated they couldn't provide the containers unless they charged us a $1 per container. 5 stars. 10/10. I just had the most AMAZING, FRESH, AUTHENTIC, and DELICIOUS sushi take out in my entire life. It's hard to find a good sushi take out spot to rely on in this area. Both the quality and quantity of the small sushi platter I ordered exceeded my expectations. I've tried sushi at many other places so I always have very high expectations and I am a sushi snob. This place is truly a hidden gem. I wish they would open as a eat in restaurant because their sushi is amazing! The small sushi platter came with 20 pieces of sushi (I had 6 pieces of buttery, fresh TORO in there, salmon, tuna, and the rest) & a special roll & and a regular roll. Each piece just MELTED in my mouth. Remember when you order the platters, the rolls are always chef's choice. The special sushi roll was ALSO delicious and the salmon avocado roll was spectacular. The staff working here are so friendly and treat you like family. They packed the sushi and miso soups very carefully. You can tell they work very hard. This is definitely a one time place. Now I know I really should pay attention to negative reviews. They are there for reasons. No one patronizes an establishment intending to give a bad review, they do it with expectation of great experience of their product or services. Having said that, I even let them know I am new to the area and this is my first time ordering. Maybe I should have lowered my expectations? I have never had "Delux Sushi" consisting of only four types fish. Typical of tuna, salmon and two white fish of rather low grade. Usually expect to see eels, shrimp, squid if not more but was I wrong! Oh, one thing that turned me off even more was the fish was warm to touch. Too expensive for its location and quality. I paid $18 for Lunch Menu box. The sushi is small, and very average. The Miso soup had nothing in it, no sea weed, no tofu etc. I understand that a sushi chef prepares it fresh, but so do others in the surrounding area and they charge around $14-15 for MORE food. Paying nearly $20 to walk away and be hungry 2 hrs later is not good. read more

The person who answers the phones should speak and understand English a little bit better than the person now. I repeated my phone number two or three times and they still got it wrong. The number 0 and the number 2 sound nothing alike. I ordered one cucumber roll and I asked them to put the rice. Of course the rice was on the inside. I don't think I will be returning. Very disappointed! Very frustrating trying to communicate with the sky over the phone. read more

Take out orders only!!! We received our food 15-20 minutes after ordering them so it was fast service. The cashier lady was nice. She had our orders right with removing avocado in one roll and cucumber in the other. The sushi was good too but not as good as I thought it'd be. The rice on the sushi was just okay, feels slightly wet. Not sure how to explain it. And when I received my tri-state roll, I was surprised that it's only 5 pieces. I get that it's 1.5x bigger than the regular rolls but I don't think I've ever had 5 pieces on a special roll. It feels like the roll is half eaten or something. They should put it on their menu that it's only 5 pieces. I would've gotten another roll if I knew. The Wasabi was also water down. read more

My mom and I randomly found this spot after driving around looking for something to eat since we were hungry. And I'm happy to report that their food + packaging was so well done. We got the beef teriyaki combo, avocado roll, king crab with avocado, spicy salmon roll, and a pc of the tuna belly roll. 1. Even though it was take out, our order was packaged very neatly and I loved the little attention to detail. (i.e taping down the sauces to the lid of the boxes) 2. I really enjoyed the combo and it was definitely worth the price. The teriyaki sauce was just right and I loved that it wasn't ultra sweet. You know how some places add some kind of corn syrup to thicken the sauce? Yeah no, you don't get that with this. The beef was also very soft and it tasted just as good the next day when I microwaved it. The tempura they provided with the combo was also incredibly well done and stayed very crispy despite sitting in the car for like another 30min, it was also nice and flavorful and not super greasy. The free roll that came with it was also delicious! Mine was a spicy yellowtail with asparagus roll; nice little heat with a satisfying crunch. The fried gyoza and shumai were just okay though. 3. Can't speak for what my mom ordered, but for my tuna belly sushi and spicy salmon maki roll, it was so delicious! I like that they didn't mash up the spicy salmon. The flavor was more robust and you feel like you're getting more bang for your buck. And that tuna belly sushi was delicious! Just the right amount of fat and flavor. The rolls that came with the order were also huge! Honestly you can just order like 2 or 3 regular rolls and you'd be fine lol read more

This is one of my most frequented joints. Sushi Sashimi Platters is the way to go 100%. They have small, medium and large platters. Sushi, Sashimi and Rolls. Small, I'd say is good for 2 people and so on. What sushi sashimi spot do you go to that gives you toro in party trays? This spot!!!! I mean, I don't have to say anything else. We ordered Sushi & roll platters n the Salmon teriyaki bento box. Every piece of sushi n roll was delicious. Their roll is tasty and the portion is so generous. We just came back from Washington D.C.. we also tried the local sushi restaurant with high reviews on Google there. However, they charged $15 for the special roll n served 5 pieces which is only half portion of what this restaurant offers. Bento box was also so delicious! Next visit I will take a picture before eating! It looked too tempting to wait when we had the food! :D I revisit here for my lunch n ate at the outside table. I wish they have in-dining table soon. Fish is NOT fresh!!! I ordered a spicy yellowtail roll because I thought just in case the fish quality isn't great the spicy mayo will most likely cover the taste of the fish. But the fish was so, so bad even with the spicy mayo. The second I put it in my mouth I could taste that the fish had turned, I tried to just swallow it, but I couldn't I ran to the trash can to throw it up. Also, the lunch time bento box does not come with rice. The concept of a bento box usually implies rice, when my husband brought home the food I called to ask them and they said only the dinner time bento comes with rice. They should indicate that at lunch they do not provide rice so at least I could've ordered one on the side. Overall: 0. Would never order again. read more

I asked for extra sauce with my platter, and she just stared at me with a look and plopped it on the table without saying anything. I love sushi and it has been really hard for me to find sushi that tastes like the ones I had in Japan and Korea. All your sushi needed to come in a roll or paired with rice. Seems a bit unfair. No water or drinks available without charge. Only had tea and water bottles that were 2-3$ each. Sushi was fine but it's more in the middle of the pack in price in the area for AYCE sushi, not including the price of drinks. In addition, the fact I can't just order fish without rice is a major letdown.

There were six of us and my daughter already picked the Bada Palace Table set before we went to the restaurant. I didn't realize how much food was included in the set, the leftovers we took home was enough for a full second dinner. Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious. In fact, it was so fresh that the leftover sashimi we took home were still really fresh the second night. I heat up the leftover tempura in air fryer and they were still quite crispy the second night. The staffs were very helpful and attentive throughout the night. We are not Koreans but they didn't treat us differently. I can say that I don't always get equal attention at other Korean restaurants when they realize we are not Koreans. They also use extra care to wrap up our leftovers. I believe this is the reason why they were still so good the second night. I really love the level of attention they put into every detail. Highly recommend this place.

Parking: street parking can be hectic but spaces opened up being it was a Sunday. The lot in the back didn't have a designated space for them, so it would either be municipal or street parking.

Service was good and there was someone who came around to pour more wine. Sushi chefs were friendly and happy to answer questions. Parking is challenging, but that's normal for the Fort Lee area. Highly recommend checking out Sushi Kai for a unique experience.
