I'm kind of surprised I only recently came to this location of bada story. For some reason we would usually go to the other location in englewood cliffs, which has since closed. This one is older and the ambience is not quite as nice/private, but we had a great meal here. I love their sets! The sashimi is incredibly fresh. I'm usually not a huge fan of Korean oysters, but the ones we had here were the freshest I've ever had. Next time I come I will probably ask for the fresh fluke (?) sashimi to come out first before the assorted sashimi, because that was the absolute best and it was a shame we barely had room left to enjoy it. Consistently one of my favorite spots with my partner - we love getting the sashimi sets for 2 here. It's such great value with so many delicious appetizers before the star of the show - the sashimi! Of note, some of the appetizers are definitely an acquired taste (e.g. the raw sea squirt, oyster & abalone(?) platter) & are not my favorite. However, I love the octopus salad, the croquettes, the fried fish, the steamed egg, (honestly there are too many to name -- you should come here to experience it!!). After the delicious sashimi which is enjoyed with sesame oil & seaweed, you also get a handball & seafood soup w the fish bones ). We're usually so full by the end that we take the soup to go for the next day! The 2 person set is definitely big enough for 3. If you come with a bigger group, it comes with lobster which is also delicious and elevates the soup! I also recommend the "live" octopus which is fun to eat as it slightly moves in your mouth (it is already dead when you eat it but because it is so recently killed, the reflexes are still intact). Bada Story is a must if you are looking for Korean style sashimi or sushi rolls in the area, we have been many times over the years and it's consistently great with fresh, high quality fish and friendly service. It has become our go to place when we visit my Korean in laws who live nearby. we usually get one of the live sashimi sets and it comes with a ton of food. i like how the side dishes are amazing on their own, especially the seafood pancake, grilled squid, and maeuntang. if you aren't feeling like sashimi, the sushi rolls are excellent. my favorites include the spicy tuna roll and pink dragon roll. these rolls are packed with fresh fish and are very filling... and ahem, as a big back, i appreciate the number of pieces of sushi you get per roll, i think it's like 8! also, bada story is kid friendly. they have high chairs, kids tableware, and a kids menu. however the sets usually come with so much food we don't need to order a separate kids meal for our toddler. she loves the miso soup that comes with the sushi, the steamed egg, corn casserole, and basa tempura. read more

One of the best Korean restaurants I have ever gone to and will go back again and again. We came on a Thursday night to celebrate my daughter's birthday. She really wanted to try live octopus and white fish sashimi she said very popular on TikTok. There were six of us and my daughter already picked the Bada Palace Table set before we went to the restaurant. I didn't realize how much food was included in the set, the leftovers we took home was enough for a full second dinner. Everything was absolutely fresh and delicious. In fact, it was so fresh that the leftover sashimi we took home were still really fresh the second night. I heat up the leftover tempura in air fryer and they were still quite crispy the second night. The staffs were very helpful and attentive throughout the night. We are not Koreans but they didn't treat us differently. I can say that I don't always get equal attention at other Korean restaurants when they realize we are not Koreans. They also use extra care to wrap up our leftovers. I believe this is the reason why they were still so good the second night. I really love the level of attention they put into every detail. My brother and I first came here for our birthday because we had seen Hometown Cha-cha-cha and wanted Korean seafood like they had on that show and the first time we ate here was so special. We loved it. This meal sparked so much joy and was such a lovely treat. The portion sizes are generous and can easily feed at least 1-2 more people than the menu suggests. The staff is really attentive but doesn't hover. We came back a second time with our parents and it was still good, but not the same magic as the first time. I am from California and came to visit my boyfriend (Korean) in NJ. We wanted to get a nice dinner one of the nights I stayed and his Korean friend recommended Bada Story. The friend spoke of this place highly.. We had reservations and upon entering the door, we were met with such a loud atmosphere. It seemed like a moderately busy night and there was one big party but all other parties were reasonably sized, being roughly 4 people. We were seated and had already decided to select a pre-set course recommended for 2-3 people. When the server came and tried to speak to us it was too loud and we couldn't hear anything he was saying. And he didn't really seem to slow down or speak louder after being told we couldn't hear him. When the dishes came out it seemed like an excessive amount of food. We knew that it would be a large quantity of food, but when all the initial dishes came out (prior to the sashimi platter) it just seemed like all the dishes were not carefully crafted together for a good quality dinner. These dishes were average, but we convinced ourselves to like it and hoped that the sashimi would be a good next part of the course. When the sashimi platter came out, it looked beautiful. BUT everything was disgustingly chewy.. i even had to split one of it out because, the taste was disgustingly fishy and the texture became bouncy and too chewy to even break apart. The waiter didn't bother to tell us which cuts were what fish and was always so quick to leave after dropping off the food. The only decent tasting sashimi pieces were the salmon and the otoro tuna (we are assuming). Even then there was still a slight chew to both.. For all traditional sashimi lovers! The assorted sashimi plate for 2 was SO worth it and honestly could have fed 3. The assorted sashimi came with different cuts of tuna, red snapper, fluke, salmon, yellowtails, and abalone. Everything was very fresh quality. And the sea squirt, sea cucumber, sea pineapple were so tasty. Oysters were fresh as well, impressively large. For the side dishes that come out, there is a nice Japanese seafood pancake, on top there is two types of sauce, it would be nice if you could've asked for sauce on the side but we didn't realize beforehand. The spicy soup at the end came with a whole baby octopus, fish, 3 mussels and a clam! Some other side dish stars included the Chilean sea bass, which was so tender and fried to perfection. The oyster rings were also simple but delicious with lemon, garlic, and butter. The mussel clear soup was so fresh as well. Server was extremely knowledgeable about the fish in both Korean and English! He explained everything to us in both languages, and multiple times if we forgot. Two Latinas walked into a Korean sushi place in Jersey to find it they were the only non Koreans in the house. Clean interior, busy staff, good food. I saw it on Instagram and 'had' to check it out while in NY because a. it looked amazing and b. they fly in their fish from Busan. I never had a pineapple fish before, and it was not to my taste, but it was interesting. The corn and (hard and chewy) abalone were meh, the pancake delish, the mussel soup made with the best stock, the fried fish and grilled calamari were exceptional. To be honest, we were starting to get full here, but then the sashimi came out. Some of it was hard as a rock (why?), some of it was delicious and some of it was ok. Next onto the really yum spicy hand rolls, and finally the spicy casserole/soup. It was amazing, but it was too much food at that point, and we took it to go. Would I go back? No, because I have to fly to NY, take a long hour bus ride from Penn station and there are too many other places to check out. This used to be one of my favorite restaurants to dine at every time I came home for the holidays. However, the prices have gotten outrageously expensive. The "lunch specials" start at $20 for a bowl of udon and $30+ for 8-12 pieces of sashimi or two sushi rolls. Granted, the order comes with tempura and roe rice (see pictures) but you can find similar quality fish for cheaper. Food comes out quickly and the staff is friendly. Been a while since the last visit before the beginning of the COVID of April 2020. Meant to go to Obaltan, but walked into Bada Story by accident and decided to stay. We got the omakase special for 2. It was a lot of food. This was the first time we had Korean style sashimi. It was interesting to try but we definitely prefer Japanese style sushi/sashimi more now that we have tried it. The appetizer platter of raw seafood (abalone, sea cucumber, etc.) was actually a little hard to get used to the texture, so we briefly 'cooked' it in the mussel soup. The grilled fish, fried fish, corn cheese, egg stew were good. Sashimi tasted very fresh. There was a spicy casserole at the end which we opted to take home as it was too much food. Bada Story is a solid choice when you're feeling Korean style sushi (yes there is a difference, and when it comes to fresh sashimi I may arguably prefer Korean style more than Japanese style). You can dine on individual entrees, but why when you can go the chefs choice omakase set route? I feel like every time I get the set the choices presented are the same every time (although the menu presents it differently) but the sashimi they give you is fresh and tender... there are times though that minor dishes like the abalone have been clearly sitting in their fridge for a few days (you can tell by the hard rubbery texture), but the most important parts of the meal are always fresh. You also get a lot of food, so while the prices are steep, you get a ton to eat from the slew of appetizers, seafood side dishes, to the main dish, and the stew at the end. But, more importantly than their dinner selection is their lunch specials! Between a $19-$25 price range, you can get a tasting of their dinner menu for lunch at a steal! Given it isn't the exact same selection, nor is it as much food, for the price they charge you, you get a great value and a good amount of food as well! They don't take reservations, but every time I've come, I could tell that the host has always feels bad that they weren't able to accomodate our group of two quickly so they always recommend that we call ahead and get our name on the waitlist (minimum 30 minutes). My only complaint about Bada Story is that the servers always make you feel rushed to finish the dishes quickly... many a time have I been there eating and enjoying my meal with friends when a server comes to indicate they want us to eat more quickly so they can bring us the next dish. This place quickly became one of my favorite restaurants in the area after our first meal here. If you're into fresh seafood, you're going to absolutely love this place. Let me preface by saying the price tag here may seem rather steep when you look at the menu. However, I can say it's 100% worth every penny you pay given the quality of the food and portions that you get. Every time I visit this place I made it a habit of ordering the tuna set. I'm a glutton for good tuna so I always find myself ordering that whenever I visit. The star of the show is (duh) the tuna, which they serve a mix of maguro and toro slices on a giant plate. Even though it's advertised as a set for two, there is no doubt in my mind that this can easily serve three (or even four) people with a decent appetite. That's because before they serve the main event .. you get a lot of dishes such as a tasty octopus salad, two selections that you pick ranging from abalone to sea cumbers to sea squirts to oysters. That's not to mention you get stuff like a giant corn and cheese dish, some clam soup and also some egg custard, along with some other side dish (we got tempura on the house) along with shumai with edamame. All this comes before the giant sashimi plate shows up. By the way, after all that you also get some hand roll (super tasty!) and a giant pot of soup + noodles to finish up the meal. If that sounds like a lot .. well it is. So in the case of the tuna set ... the $129 price tag isn't nearly as crazy as it seems, and trust me it's definitely worth it just for the awesomely fresh tuna that they serve there. Is too much food a bad thing? We were a family of 8 and we ordered for takeout the deal for 6-8. We had SO MUCH LEFTOVER. I love that spicy stew at the end and it was super easy to make at home using their kit/instructions. Eating IN the restaurant is a different experience since you get the hand rolls and the food is delivered in "courses". I recommend both takeout and dine in but be really hungry or order conservatively if you don't want a lot leftover. read more

The sashimi presentation was top notch. Hat tip to the sushi chef. Everything was delicious and this is coming from a red meat lover. The service was great. The selection of drinks were plentiful.
