I ordered the udon noodle seafood soup and honestly it didn't have much flavor. The "seafood" was mostly baby shrimp and imitation crab, and it felt like more noodles than anything else. My friends did the all-you-can-eat option and they enjoyed it, so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Service was on the slower side even though the place wasn't packed. Visited Osaka Sushi for dinner on a Friday. It's a pretty large sushi restaurant with lots of anime posters on the walls. The menu is essentially the same as all the other all you can eat sushi restaurants in Bergen County, with sashimi, sushi, and kitchen items. They give you paper menus, where you check off the items you want and they bring them to your table. Standout items for me were the yellowtail jalapeno and pepper salmon sashimi, as well as the filet mignon special roll. Service was a bit clumsy. I was very concerned as the staff reached over my infant daughter's high chair delivering hot bowls of soup or plates of fried kitchen items. Sushi and sashimi quality were average. I rarely write reviews, but this experience was unacceptable from start to finish. First, the wait was extremely long, and once we were finally seated, there was no English spoken, which made even basic communication a struggle. I was still waiting for chopsticks and a plate while dishes were already being brought to the table. The miso soup tasted like it came straight from a microwave, not freshly prepared. They also charged my 1-year-old for a full meal, which is ridiculous. What made it worse is that they lied to us, saying they weren't going to charge for the meal. But when we were walking out, they stopped us and insisted we had to pay because "we ate it," even though they previously said it was free. Completely unprofessional. "Steve" who I though was a manger eventually came to ask if everything was okay, but by then it was too late to fix anything. Their excuse was that they "only work there," so they weren't responsible. They even said they would call the cops simply because we weren't happy with the service or the food and forced us to pay which is what we were intending to do but we were lie at the table so that we ate the food and then call the cops. We wasted two hours driving to this place because Google showed a 4.6 rating, but Yelp's 3-star rating was the accurate one. Honestly, this restaurant deserves 1 star at best. DO NOT EAT HERE OR ORDER FROM HERE! This has to be the absolute worst meal I've had in NJ in a decade. We ordered delivery and the fish legitimately came rancid (driver only had to drive 7 min). The salmon tartare was actually grey and had a horrible odor... immediately threw it out. The udon noodles were gummy, the chicken was bone dry and they thought putting tons of sauce would fix it ... it obviously didn't. Ignored for a long time before, during and after eating. Not because they were busy, for some reason they just didn't want to serve us. Granted we were a large party of 6, but that's 2 more than other family tables. Apart from the long wait, the server got our order wrong and then she disappeared altogether. We were seated and then completely ignored for about 15 minutes -- no menus, no drinks, no server checking in. Other tables were attended to, so we weren't sure if we were forgotten or if they were just short-staffed. I tried to get someone's attention and even stood up in the middle of the restaurant, but no one noticed. We eventually gave up and left. I try not to overorder, so I usually just place small orders at a time. We waited over 30 minutes for 10 pieces of salmon sushi, 10 pieces of mackerel, and one piece of tamago--which never even came out. We tried to start a second round of AYCE, but it took almost 15-20 minutes just to get the order sheet. We even asked twice and still didn't receive it until I had to complain. I grew up in this town. Sushi, minus Foova (go back 15+ years), was truly the only place you could go if you wanted decent sushi. Last night, my family and I decided to try Osaka and had an incredible meal. We chose the "all you can eat" option and did not leave disappointed. My only suggestion would be to avoid anything with imitation crab in it, as you would likely do at any sushi restaurant if you know what you're doing, but here are highlights: -sashimi was great. We loved the tuna, squid, and eel -regular rolls were 5/5. Rice quality was great and nothing was overbearing -special rolls were good. Try the filet (steak) one Service couldn't have been better. The people who work & run this place are friendly, kind, and professional. In case you don't want "all you can eat", there are many other options. If you love all you can eat sushi, this is a cool place to check out! They have a huuuuuge menu with a ton of different things you can order (and as much as you want). They have a lot dishes that arent sushi too. The quality of ayce sushi is not expected to be top tier, so dont expect it. The sushi here is pretty tasty. Wow, it was a very enjoyable meal. Friendly staff. Nice menu. We got there around 5:30, and the place was empty, but it began to fill up a bit as we ate. We had the all you can eat, and the menu did not disappoint. The kitchen selections were small portions, but you could have as much as you wanted, and you didn't have to worry about having to finish everything. The sushi rolls were good with some uniqueness to them. Not just the same rolls you see everywhere. Topped off the meal with deep fried oreos and chocolate ice cream. Without exaggeration, the worst sushi experience I have ever had and will have as long as I make more sensible choices in the future. I saw decent reviews on Yelp and google, so thought I'd give take out a try. The fish was not fresh at all. I went to Osaka for dinner with my family for the first time tonight in high anticipation. We've been eyeing this restaurant since we heard it was opening soon. We were well-received by the host and the staff were so pleasant. Whatever warm feelings I had at the beginning of the meal disappeared as we sat waiting a ridiculous amount of time for our food. We saw at least 8 parties seated after us and several of them got their orders in and food at their tables before we called staff over to check on our food status. We received wrong orders (i.e. gyoza and raw salmon were served when we never ordered those items), numerous missing orders (i.e. Kani salad, fried rice, edamame, etc.), and the food was disappointing. The rice was falling apart when we tried to pick up the rolls. There was also an inordinate amount of rice to fish ratio. The galbi was chewy and just bone. We had to leave a piece untouched as it was raw. The underwhelming teriayaki udon is literally just cooked udon with 2 squirts of teriyaki sauce. Another food disappointment that stood out was a specialty roll with cold, and clearly not heated up, shrimp tempura inside. We ended leaving extremely let down. We can tell the staff and kitchen were overwhelmed, and I am hopeful that this is a one-time experience as this restaurant is new and still getting its sea-legs. We had a few eat all you can meals in the past in this place and we loved them but last night was almost like a nightmare. The sashimi were so thinly sliced, we were served a lot Jess than we ordered, and after waiting long for salmon sashimi...they never came (even after several follow ups). The shrimp tempura apparently ran out! The sushi rolls were clearly hurriedly made... rolled rice were falling apart. The kani serving portion was less than a third of what it was. I can probably go on and on with the terrible food. The customers around our table were having the same issues as we overheard their complaints. I recently moved to Tenafly from Fort Lee and was looking for a new sushi spot around area. I found Osaka Sushi and decided to bring my family to give it a try. We went on a Saturday evening, around 530pm when there was little activity and ordered the AYCE menu. I am afraid to say Osaka Sushi did not meet my expectations for many reasons: (1) even though we came in at a time with low traffic and ordered both kitchen and sushi options, we got served after the tables that came later than ours. By the time the tables were all filled at 6pm, we were still waiting for our order to come (2) the quality of the sushi is poor; we ordered a few specialty rolls that took a long time to arrive. One that had shrimp tempura inside came with the shrimp cold, and when chewed was soggy and stale, as if they forgot to fry it and just had it microwaved. In addition, we ordered nigiri a second time during the sitting and they stuffed it with rice in an attempt to compensate for orders that were never received at the table (3) there seemed to be a mix with our order as we received items we didn't order, and simple items that we ordered that should be easy to serve and are staple such as Kani salad and Edemame never made their way to our table. Towards the end we asked the server to cancel the rest of our orders because they were taking too long, and the food was not enjoyable. The only good things about this place was the ambiance and decoration. The servers and waiters are kind and try their best at providing good service, but this does not make up by the poor food quality and timeliness. I understand this restaurant is new and may still be figuring out how to serve their clients and meet demand during peak hours, but unfortunately I cannot recommend this place if you are a sushi enthusiast. We left dissatisfied and with a feeling that we did not get any of our money's worth. read more
