Updating my previous review to 5 stars bc Foova has been and still is the best sushi place in the county. No competition.

Been to a lot of sushi places and I usually don't eat too much rolls but this place got the BEST spicy tuna roll I've had! It's a must try and other rolls are amazing too! Staff is super friendly and nice too! I moved out of the area but whenever I go back to Jersey , I always hit up their spicy tuna roll. It's worth the stop! read more

So I finally tried this place recently for lunch. It was empty at lunchtime which usually gets me nervous but it's summertime and many people are on vacation so I figured why not? I ordered sushi sashimi without looking at the menu since everyone has a sushi sashimi combo. Very disappointed. My meal was served in two separate plastic takeout boxes : one sushi, the other the sashimi. No salad, just the two containers without any explanation as to the contents. Both contained large Tamago pieces which served as filler. The paltry pieces of fish were unappetizing. The salmon, usually my favorite, had its membrane still attached. What was the most memorable part of the offering was the pressed piece of imitation fish such as surimi included in the sashimi box - the stuff put in "seafood salad". Unbelievable. read more

This is probably a recent review. I ordered hwe-dup-bop, my favorite menu. I am really a fan:) I liked the fresh sashimi and colorful veggies. This hwe-dup-bop really has the best taste. We ordered take out from Foova tonight. The sushi was fresh and delicious. They have great speciality rolls (about $14 each). We ordered 6 rolls to share among three people and we loved each one. The Tenafly Sunset Roll was wonderful with mango, avocado, and shrimp! The tuna and salmon crunch rolls are excellent too. read more

Solid takeout sushi joint in the Tenafly area. I got a mini Teriyaki chicken don, spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and a Godzilla roll. All in all everything tasted fresh and delicious. The only negative for me is that the prices are quite a bit higher than other similar sushi places in the neighborhood. read more

foova has been my go-to for nearly a decade. great sushi. but wow are they over priced. every time I go back there it's more expensive. stopped coming because there are cheaper, equally delicious other sushi places in the area. came back for the first time in months to get 2 spicy tuna rolls totaling $20.. you see in my review two years ago it was $5 less and even then I was complaining about the price because it was always the most expensive place in the area. I was told about Foova by a 16 year old girl. This may be the most fascinating thing about this surprise-you-with-the-best-sushi-in-the-area hole in the wall: this place is like some kind of cult classic for the female teenager. Seeing an adult in Foova is about as rare as seeing a cat on a leash. And I have NEVER seen anyone of the male variety in Foova. So what, pray tell do these girls know that the rest of us don't?? Perhaps that the spicy tuna roll is reeedunculous!!! The Caterpillar Roll to be exact. Get it "spicy with crunch and tobiko". Eat and be amazed. It just melts in your mouth! I frequent this little joint regularly - for the past 2 and a half years. Once you find what you like, the cravings are intense. I have tried a few other things on the menu: Eel roll - wasn't amazed. Love a tempura sweet potato and asparagus roll (I made that up - it's good). Foova salad - super yummy, huge and filling (avocado, shredded crab legs, tobiko (fish eggs), and spicy mayo). Shumai - standard. Miso Soup - mmmm... And that's all I've tried - cause I'm ADDICTED to the Spicy Caterpillar Roll with crunch and tobiko!!! Oh no... craving now.. must have... Haven't been here in ages but I need to leave a proper review. Foova began my addiction to spicy tuna rolls which isn't all that surprising because their spicy tuna is unreal. The spicy tuna here is a staple and everyone in Tenafly talks about it like its gold. Foova is tiny, smells like moth balls, and I've even encountered the sushi chef outside in his underwear before. But who cares, the sushi is truly dank. By no means would I go here for a dinner sit down, but it's the best place to order pickup/takeout. They literally pack on the fish and I always leave full. The ordering takes legitimately forever to make though. So why four stars? The spicy tuna is without a doubt the greatest spicy tuna I've ever tried. This is my favorite sushi place to go to when I'm home from Boston. The sushi is always fresh. The food doesn't usually take over 30 minutes to get to me, unlike other reviewers said -- it usually just takes 10 minutes. I don't think that the management is rude at all, just reserved. I work near by and my co-worker told me about this place. Tried it since her food smelled so good and I was craving sushi. Place was cozy and you can dine-in and enjoy your meal. Ahh... Foova, what's left to be said that has not already been laid out about this great establishment and tenafly/north jersey staple. I have personally brought friends from around the world and have seen friends bring friends from around the world just to get a taste of that spicy tuna with crunch ... extra spicy mayo on the side. The classic order I've been eating for over a decade now. In recent years I made a possibly late discovery that they also make one of the best chicken teriyaki dishes I've ever had. Dark meat and homemade sesame ginger teriyaki sauce that can't be beat ... it's pretty out of this world . I wanted to show my love for this place 5/5 10/10 call it what you want it's the best sushi place I've ever been too, managed by a family who loves and cares about what they do and I always want more. 1 spicy tuna roll avocado on top 1 spicy eel roll. 1 spicy mayo on the side. Im going to keep this short and straight to the point. This is one of the best sushi I ever eaten. I order the spicy tuna and salmon avocado. It was very fresh and I loved the orange sauce on the spicy tuna. The place is very small and looked clean. The sushi is also fairly priced for the area. Food is decent, but that is where it stops. It takes an hour to get a roll here even when the place is empty, prices are higher than other local sushi places, and they don't even take Amex. If you're fond of expensive food that takes forever to get to your plate and views of dumpsters outside, then come to Foova. read more

Servings are small and the prices are steep considering what you get BUT very delicious. I'd rather have a little of something amazing than a lot of something that doesn't taste that great. I live in Tenafly and feel very lucky to have Foova so close by. This is a 2 person operation, but it's the best sushi I've ever had, including eating in dozens of Sushi establishments in the city, They serve their rice at room temperature; the fish is as fresh as it comes and their special sauces are incredible. read more

Best Japanese Restaurant in Bergen County. Prices are fair. The owner is friendly and always accommodating. The Sushi looks and taste like sushi you would buy at a 5 Star Restaurant in Manhattan. They don't do Deliveri(Tenafly won't allow them). Food is constantly cooked properly and to specifications give by customers. People come from towns over just for the sushi!!!! read more
