THE NOT SO GOOD ---------------------------- - No private parking lot, but there are free 1 hour street parking spaces all around and a free parking lot 1 block west on Oradell Ave that has 3 hour parking limits. MIXED THOUGHTS --------------------------- = Food was up and down. Sushi was disappointing, but kitchen food wad decent. - Sushi for Two - 20 pieces of assorted sushi and 2 rolls (California and Spicy Tuna) for $48.95 (as of March 2026). Was actually reasonably priced for so many pieces of sushi. Unfortunately, sushi rice was on the mushy side and the fish was room temp, so didn't taste like the freshest fish from the sea. + Nabeyaki Udon - Soliddddd. Arrived in a piping hot clay pot and the broth, udon and chicken were pretty good. + Kake Fry - 4 freshly fried oysters were good. Really loved my experience at Ocean Sushi! They have different lunch options. The one I chose was 2 rolls for $13. Both rolls I got were Spicy Salmon. The salmon was actually fresh pieces; not that chopped mushiness that you get at other sushi shops. Only got lunch to go, but the inside was beautiful! I plan to come back for dinner one night. From the outside, it looks like a small store front. But there is actually a beautiful ambiance going on inside! I plan to come here for a sit down meal in the near future. read more

I absolutely love the sushi here. I've consistently gotten delicious rolls as I've come whenever I had the chance. The fish to rice portion in the rolls is so good. I've always felt they were generous with whatever's inside the rolls. I am usually an AYCE girl, but even just two rolls feels just enough. The spicy tuna is just the way I like it! The texture, the spice level, the amount of rice I really think this place is worth a shot, if you've never tried. I haven't ordered anything more than a couple of regular rolls each time, but always so yummy. My mouth is watering as I type If you have a chance to come for their lunch menu, I recommend it! Two rolls plus miso and I also order a special roll if I'm really hungry. (But that's just me being greedy lol it gets so filling) I saw some other reviews about their fish quality and spicy tuna texture, but I haven't experienced it ever being bad. But you can't please everyone I suppose. Some places mash it to pieces or it's so spicy you can't enjoy the fish. But I'm a fan of Ocean Sushi's Spicy Tuna/ Spicy Salmon. Got takeout tonight and I thought the food was quite good. I ordered several sushi rolls, a shrimp & vegetable tempura, a salmon skin salad, and an Agedashi tofu. None of them were spectacular, but all of them were pretty good. The only negative was that the salad was super small. You could realistically finish it in 4-5 bites. Pretty busy for a small sushi place off a main road in Oradell. My husband and I are new patrons and yelped this place craving sushi. There's parking across the street and also limited street parking. The restaurant was very cozy with minimal seating. I would say the place seats 30-40 if you utilize the bar. Coming here on a Saturday at a busy dinner time, my husband and I opted to sit at the bar. Service: unfortunately wasn't the best I've encountered. We sat down for a good 10 minutes before anyone came and asked us for our drinks. Understandably, there was only two waitresses, but it shouldn't have taken that long just to ask for our drink orders. Anyways, after closing our menus and chatting, someone finally came and asked us for our drinks. The second waitress came and took our food order which we didn't have to wait too long for. A few cons with sitting at the bar; the waitresses lean over you to pick up sushi orders, dirty trays are placed at the end of the bar, and take out is being packed up at the other end of the bar. Our water/tea was never refilled and our check was given to us even before asking if we wanted anything else, which we did (the tempura ice cream) and before we were ready to leave. Food: I've had my share of sushi and this place definitely is at the top of my list. My husband ordered the chicken katsu which was probably one of the better ones I've had. The chicken is cooked right and the dish provides more than enough to share between two people. I ordered the Godzilla roll which consisted of avocados, salmon, and rice, wrapped in a tempura shell instead of the rice. It's covered in a sweet and spicy sauce which was a little over done for my personal taste, but nonetheless, the sushi was delicious. My husband HAD to get the green tea tempura ice cream, which wasn't great at all. The green tea ice cream was hard and chunky, which made me think the ice cream was getting old. Needless to say, I've had better tempura ice cream. I do recommend this place if you're looking for good sushi in the area. I don't suggest sitting at the bar because of all the cons I've mentioned and I wouldn't come at a busy time on a Friday/Saturday. Ultimately, I would probably just order take out from this place and eat the sushi at the comfort of my own home. I took one star away from this place because of the service. Like I said, I would come here after peak dinner hours or most likely order take out. read more

So I had an early dinner here last night with a friend and the place was completely empty. But as it got later, it started to fill up. It's got a nice ambiance, with intimate lighting and dark wood furniture. Needless to say, we were seated quickly. We received our menus and the sole waitress took our drink order. I tried their unsweetened iced green tea. It was good, not too bitter. Decided to have the Eel, Spicy Tuna, and Hot rolls. The eel and spicy tuna were fresh and tasty. They didn't skimp on the fish. The Hot Roll was very good, interesting texture and good balance of flavors. It was cooked, but it was different than any other special rolls I've had at other places. For dessert, we split the tempura ice cream. It was presented very well. The warm, crispy, tempura shell and cold, soft, ice cream were an excellent contrast. I'd like to go back to try their other rolls. And the sushi pizza sounds interesting. read more

Ordered take out here the other night. The dishes were good, not great. Hit or miss kind of feeling. The eel sashimi was good but the white tuna didn't actually taste like white tuna. The Philadelphia roll was real good, but I'll def pass next time on the Red Ball Roll. With all that's going on in the world, I'm surprised I was charged almost $10 in service and delivery fees. I have come here a few times. Recently, I came for lunch and got the salmon sashimi over rice bowl. It came with miso soup, which was delicious. The salmon sashimi was very good and fresh. The sushi rice was pretty good. Afterwards, we had the strawberry and green tea mochi ice cream, which was delicious. Service was friendly and prompt. Parking can be found on the street or across the street in the little municipal lot. Pretty darn good, would definitely return again. read more

I can 100% state the megimaki was the worst I've ever tasted - and that was what I was looking forward to the most. The order included random small masses of beef saturated in the sauce. I saw maybe 3 specs of scallions throughout and that was it! Not rolled, no scallions, too much sauce. All I can say is, Thunderball. Thunderball is the amazing, special, roll they have here. It is delicious. It's basically a shrimp tempura roll with lobster salad on top. I think there's tuna on there too. It's so delicious. One of the best rolls I've ever had. I like coming here for the cute space and how the staff is always friendly and accomodating. I've been wanting to try Ocean Sushi for years & let me say I was very disappointed. To start, they are way overpriced for food that is just ok. Nothing special. Spicy tuna wasn't spicy and lacked flavor as did the crab roll. Dumplings were 4 in an order and very small. They were like the frozen dumplings you can find in Shop Rite. The vinegar in the house dressing overpowered what is typically a subtle, sweeter flavor & the tuna sushi was dry on the ends. All in all, a very expensive, unappetizing meal that was mostly discarded. I do not recommend this place, but I do recommend our DoorDash driver, Lucas. read more

How the hell can you judge sushi grade fish that has been drowned in hot sauce? The answer is it's difficult for the palate yet simple for your gut. It raises the hair on the back of my neck when I see the tub of spicy anyfish and a scoop. Some Asians do this just for money, being imposters that is, funny thing is most don't even notice. Greasy Seafood Pancakes, Hwe Dup Bap and Bulgogi along with Sexy & Dynamite Rolls, Sushi Pizza and lot's of spicy this and that screams not Japanese! If I wanted Korean I'd go to a Korean restaurant. Masking frozen fish with spice, covering it in pink sauce (mayo & sriracha) and crunch is the name of the game in the "specialty roll" biz and not to be outdone Ocean Sushi has all the bases covered except I didn't see the requisite Oradell Ave roll. After having a terrible sushi experience last week in an unmentioned place in Allendale NJ we redeemed ourselves with this gem. This is our type of sushi place. Completely unassuming, kind of hidden and just good food. We started with Miso soup which is my way of telling how the rest of the meal will be...it was good...just how we like it. Tuna Tartar was for the app, and it was delish. Great spices and perfect amount of cubed tuna. Dynamite and Sexy Rolls treated us well. Spicy and fresh. The waitress was awesome and we will make this our new local sushi spot. read more

In my other reviews. I dock points for an eatery if the food was good, but the service is mediocre. This is one place where the attentiveness of the staff was both top notch and at the same time, non-intrusive. Partner that with a relaxing environment and very modern decor, and fresh offerings... you have a nice sushi spot west of the hudson. The hot tea on a cold night was perfect and was refilled numerous times. Ordered the edamame (with a special request w/o salt), and a spicy tuna and dragon roll. The presentation was extremely nice with a good amount of fresh ginger on the plate and the wasabi provided in a floral pattern. First time I've seen that in all of the sushi restaurants I've ever been to. Everything was prepared with extreme care and portions were generous given the price. I was able to spy on a table next to me the selection of sushi/sashimi... since that's what grades a sushi restaurant. The portions were generous again and presented well. I'd have to taste to comment on the freshness and texture, but the couple seemed very happy. If you live in Oradell or any of its bordering towns and haven't been here yet, you need to. It seems like a takeout favorite due to the number of people picking orders up during my 40 minutes eating there, but I'd recommend eating in for a different experience you don't find around that area. I gave it 4 stars mainly because I was pressed for time and didn't have a chance to taste the variety of selection they provided. I'm looking forward to my next visit soon. read more

Husband and I were coming back from a 3-hour hike, but had to stop and pick up a dusty antique near Oradell. So we are very casually dressed, to say the least, a bit smelly, and even a bit dirty. And we are too far from home and suddenly really hungry. It was Friday evening, super early, and we wanted something more than a takeout sandwich. Anyway, the hostess/server didn't bat an eye at our *casual* attire, helpfully sent S down the block to get some sake, and graciously explained the specials. We had some fancy, complicated rolls (from the specials) and they were all really nice, very fresh, with good balance of textures and colors. All around, a very pleasant experience; attractive, unpretentious place, not too far from major NJ routes and the GWB. As Michelin would say, "worth a detour." A brief one, anyway. read more

This place is really cute! I love the decor inside. I was surprised to learn that the owner/sushi chef designed the interior himself :) To start off, the food is amazing! I love the rolls and sashimi here! Also, I don't know if anyone is particularly into this, but the wasabi tastes so much better than other sushi restaurants'. I don't know what it is, but I just really like the way it tastes here. I always get the sexy roll along with some sashimi. Very good rolls and really fresh sashimi. You can never go wrong here. Remember to tip the sushi chef! The service! Oh, how I love the service here! I've been here on different days of the week and at different times of the day, and so far I've seen a total of three different servers. They're all very friendly and attentive, and no matter how busy they are, they never forget to keep their smiles on. I especially adore the older server there who is always cracking jokes with me and asking about little details I've told her before. I'm surprised she remembers those things! It's nice to feel like I'm at home when I go to eat at a restaurant :) The other customers always seem to enjoy her company as well. I've also had the lunch boxes, and these are some really big portions! You wouldn't expect to get so much food during lunch time, but the chefs in the back really do a great job with the food and the portions! They also do take-out here (unfortunately no delivery yet), and they're always so prompt with when the order is to be ready. I never have to wait when I go to pick up my food. Overall, my experience here is always delightful. If you live in this area, you should definitely check it out. This place deserves to be more known! read more

Came here for lunch and it was great! The place is super cute and was playing good music. The service was perfect, very helpful. They didn't have the traditional three roll lunch special I'm used to but we got creative and made our own in a way. Fish was tasty and fresh. Right now I'm on a specific diet so I couldnt have any sauces, mayos, soy, etc so I was really able to taste the actual product. Yum! And the rice was perfect. My husband and I have had dinner here twice, and both times we really enjoyed our meal. The fish is very fresh, melt-in-your-mouth tuna and salmon. The rolls are creative and there is a good rice-fish ratio. Aside from the sushi, I was not a big fan of the beef negimaki, and I also don't really like the free pancake they give away (too oily). However, when it comes to the actual sushi, this place is our new go-to in the area. So yummy. Another minor note... I don't like the soy sauce. It has a bitter aftertaste. I don't know if they use a special type, or if it is just the low-sodium kind, but if that was adjusted I would bump this review up to 5 stars. read more

Japanese restaurant with run by by a nice Korean family. The menu had some Korean cuisine in it like "hwe dup bap"( sashimi bibimbap), bulgogi platter. My husband wanted to try a different Japanese restaurant and we found this place in yelp. We went there for a early dinner, 2 tables were occupied. BYOB is always plus for us who love to bring our own wine. We ordered soft shell crab Kara age. We loved it! It was soft but had a crispy texture with full of crab flavor. Ordered some rolls for main course. They were all well-made and delicious. My favorite was thunder roll which was special for the night. Service was great but I only saw one server. It could get hectic at busy evening I thought. It was great option for us to try different Japanese restaurant. They didn't have bento box or manager special which can taste little bit of simple stuff. They are not authentic Japanese. But if you like decent rolls, this place could be one of the option.
