*Beware! They change the prices on you as they please! I ordered takeout directly via their website on a Tuesday at around noon. I had the 3 roll lunch special with a spider roll, chicken tempura roll, and crab roll. I was excited to see a spider roll on this list because you never see it. But I was quickly disappointed when I saw it was mostly just tempura batter. The chicken tasted better than it looked. The crab was just chunks of imitation crab meat. I know it's imitation but I thought they would at least chop it up before rolling it up, and at least make it look more appealing. All pretty disappointing but I had to choose the cooked rolls since I'm pregnant. My friend had some raw rolls, which she said wasn't great either. One of the rolls she ordered was the eel avocado roll, which came fried in tempura, something I have never seen before. The lunch special came with the saddest miso soup, which had one singular morsel of tofu in it. So here is where the price conflict comes in - when I ordered online, it said the 3 roll lunch special was $12. I decided to pay cash in person because I didn't want to enter my CC information, be charged any potential CC fees, and businesses like cash better in general. It's a win-win for everybody. My total, as placed through the order online portal (not just looking at the menu), and email confirmation was $25.59. When I got there, the guy told me it was $30. So I told him that my total said $25 online. And he said something about the menu not being updated. So I paid without argument, but looking back, I should have showed him the receipt. $12 for mediocre sushi is already more than I care to pay, but $15 and you tell me the price after the fact? Nah. I understand prices of things have gone up now, but you should update the prices and not upcharge the customer after the fact. It's false advertising. It also doesn't make sense because if I did put in my CC details and prepaid, does that mean I would have only paid the $25? All of it is very sus. I would skip this place if I were you.
I have to drop a huge thank you to Kyoto Sushi! My boyfriend and I moved into the neighborhood recently and found this place. We absolutely love it! The sushi rolls are versatile and with great price! They are definitely busy with everything going on, but are still always on the money with timing. I can't wait to dine in! My favorite roll is the NY Giants roll and Mike's favorite is the Tiger Roll. - Update This is our go-to Sushi spot in Dumont. We love the staff and the sushi is delicious. We always get the fried crab, they know how to fry it here! Pricing is great and the staff gets the sushi out a timely manner. Definitely recommend!
Was in the area with my daughter, she loves sushi and this place did not disappoint. Small dining area but many came in for takeout orders. Food was fresh, service was delightful. Price was very good. Nice place for lunch.
Appetizers Soft shell crab - plain deep fried crab on a sheet of chopped lettuce and cabbage. I would describe this dish as simple. The flour used to fry it isn't the highest quality so this was nothing extraordinary. Panfried Tofu - pass. Nothing special. I found the taste of the tofu a little off. Verdict- skip the appetizers and save stomach space. Special rolls (buy 2 get 1 free) Hercules- good but not as satisfying. There's lettuce in this one which when rolled takes up a lot of volume. Crunch - this one has shrimp tempura which is my absolute favorite. Lobster King - similar texture to the crunch minus the shrimp. I enjoyed this one as well. Deluxe sashimi combo - nice presentation, good sushi. 12 sushi 21 sashimi - tuna not as fresh as it could be. We had a mix of salmon, white tuna, and regular tuna. 2 regular roll (your choice). I went with a salmon roll because I'm a salmon lover. A couple things to note: firstly, this was too much food for a party of 3. Guess I know what I'll have for lunch tomorrow. Second, more often than not people will order take out as opposed to sitting and dining in. I would categorize this as more of a take out spot. Third, parking is a hit or miss. There's only street parking. I was lucky to snag a space right up front. Overall verdict - driving here was a pain. There's too many traffic lights but the food was good enough that I may come back when I'm craving my next Japanese food fix.
Really great specialty roll deal and location brought me in the door. The service was amazing. Their online ordering platform is so user friendly (I am not tech friendly) and picking up my order went seamless. The food was amazing. I got a house salad with ginger dressing and it was a huge portion. Largest I've ever received at a sushi restaurant. The rolls were delicious and had so much fish and toppings on them perfect amount of rice- not overwhelming amount like most places have. Across the street from liquor store so I was able to pick up some wine easily to go with my takeout. Will be back!
This place has been my go-to sushi spot for years! They have a variety of options from sushi, sashimi, sundubu, bibimbap. I would say all are reasonably priced (Around $12 for 3 sushi rolls, or sundubu). The staff is always very friendly as well.

Great local spot for sushi!!! I got the buy 2 get 1 free deal and I ordered three special rolls: Mexican, kamicaze, and crunch roll. They were all tasty and I still can't believe I got it all for $27. Also - they are following all appropriate COVID 19 measures (masks, social distancing, sanitizer, etc) if anyone's wondering. Go support local when you can everyone!
We tried this place based on yelp reviews and were very pleased. We were seated right away and offered tea. They have this cool machine that makes a lot of tea at once so there wasn't any delay. The dining room is small. The tables are comfortable with a small wall between them affording patrons with some privacy. They probably do a lot of take out. We enjoyed our meal. The only negative I would say is the wasabi for the sushi didn't have any flavor or heat.

I got the Spider roll and the sweet potato tempura roll. The spider roll was MUCH better than the sweet potato. It has soft shell crab, avocado, & cucumber with special sauce. The sweet potato roll was a little bland, not much taste to it. They have a very large menu with an endless amount of options & they have brown rice! I got a salad & two sushi rolls for around $22. Would I go back? Maybe, but probably not.
Went to the store to put in a take out order. Their menu had lots of offer available for lunch. I picked the 3 special rolls for $29 combo that also came with a miso soup. The restaurant had a nice cozy dining space, seats were available in front of the sushi bar as well. I got the American Dream (deep fried), white dragon and king lobster rolls. The sushis seemed to have good amount of ingredients. I liked the king lobster most as it had lots of lobster on top. White dragon was my second favorite. The American Dream had pieces but it was filled with too much rice. The amount of wasabi was so little for the 3 rolls and the ginger didn't taste good either. Miso soup was bland too. read more

Absolute favorite local hole-in-the-wall spot, order takeout plenty of times from here. All the special rolls are so flavorful and well prepared - to die for! Please note they are closed on Mondays! Staff are welcoming and kind. Love this place for an intimate catch up with a friend and date night! read more

Was in the area with my daughter, she loves sushi and this place did not disappoint. Small dining area but many came in for takeout orders. Food was fresh, service was delightful. Price was very good. Nice place for lunch. read more

Came for a lunch special. It was $12 for 3 types of rolls and soup. It's clean and the staff are very friendly. They made sure we enjoyed the food and humored my toddler who asked 3818238 questions of the waitress including asking if she could try on her headband. The rolls are all fresh and don't fall apart when you eat them which is a win! My teenager comes here with his friends once in a while and he says they are always kind to them. I will come back because it's good and the people are good! read more

A small, local sushi restaurant in downtown Dumont. Recently I had some friends visiting last minute and I didn't have any food in the house to serve them. I decided to order a sushi platter from Kyoto Sushi. I went with sushi roll platter A which includes six regular rolls and three special rolls. The platter was $50, which was really good value in my opinion. That's 60 pieces of sushi for only $50. The quality of the sushi was decent. It's certainly not the best sushi I've ever had, but for the price point it met my expectations. I would definitely order from here again, especially if I'm going to a potluck or have guests over. I think their party platters offer great value. read more

I've been ordering from here for 2 years now. Obsessed with crunch, dynamite, mexican and anything else with shrimp, spicy tuna and crab!! Cannot go wrong with the buy 2 get 1 deal ! Make sure to ask for eel sauce and spicy Mayo. Doesn't come unless requested. read more

I came here because the restaurant had 4.5 stars and I really wanted very very good sushi. Staff friendly, very good service, but food only so-so. The portions were good. I ordered the crazy spicy tuna roll and a regular spicy tuna roll, but they were not that good in my opinion. They didn't have that spicy tuna kick that spicy tuna roll usually has, and honestly didn't even taste like spicy tuna. There were a lot of pick up orders while I was there, so it seems like it's a popular spot but if you're looking for very tasty quality sushi, this may not be the best place to go. read more

Dine here often before the pandemic, and love the service and food. Today, we ordered take out. Ordered shrimp tempura for the kids. When we got home, it wasn't tempura but coconut shrimp. Called the store and initially stated that he doesn't know what I'm talking about. I know the difference between shrimp tempura and coconut shrimp. Eventually, he admitted that they ran out of the shrimp tempura. Very disappointed that we weren't made aware when we were making the order. Sushi we got was still good. read more

This place was nice and quiet when I came it at 1:10 pm on this Thursday. The owner (Alex) greeted me with his wife (Grace) and they immediately offered me the various lunch specials they have available. It was nice to know I had several good options but I decided on any 2 rolls and Miso soup for $9. The Miso soup was FABULOUS! Great tasting and WARM! The food is delicious and really made fresh to order. Grace was nice enough to take the time to inform me that they were open on the upcoming Christmas Eve and they have party platters available starting at $45 for that day or any other occasion. This place is really a nice little spot to get good food. I will definitely be returning. read more

I actually disagree with the reviews about the bad customer service. We were actually greeted as soon as we walked in. Granted, there was nobody else there. The customer service for me was 4 stars. They were kind. I was actually more concerned about the amount of food you're getting for the price that you pay. Do not get the salmon bowl. You get a small amount of rice, 4 small pieces of salmon and barely any salad, for $15. I would suggest ONLY getting sushi there. For the amount we spent, we left still hungry. The servings are way too small for the price. Overall, I only plan on going back for sushi. Most Japanese places I've gone to in the past wasn't only good for sushi. For a place that has 4.5 stars on Yelp, I am disappointed that I listened. read more

My sister best friend and I were there last night (as we often are) and as much as we absolutely love and miss Grace and Alex, this new father and son duo is no exception. The change of management is pretty smooth and now Kyoto delivers! All the staff is amazing here and they have great roll combinations. Don't be afraid to try their torched white tuna, my favorite! Tip: Order the Mexican roll (I got mine without jalapeños) and ask for extra Chef's top secret sauce (aka sauce they top that roll with). IT'S ADDICTING! We had the flower roll, Sakura roll (both no rice rolls), mountain roll, Alaskan roll, endless spicy tuna, spicy crab and avocado and California rolls. Also tried their miso and steamed gyoza. Everything was fresh and tasty. The gyoza is a must! And also the mango and strawberry mochi ice cream was a great treat to cap the night. My evening here was one of my best dining experiences. The space is very clean and simple. It makes you feel relaxed. The staff is attentive and extremely knowledgeable. The best part, of course, is the food. Every piece of sushi is well thought - out down to the grains of sea salt on top. The fish is fresh and perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of soy sauce, lemon juice, wasabi, etc. The staff also explain each piece and the order that it should be eaten. The meal ended with a hot tea which is very refreshing and a perfect way to end a sushi meal. I highly recommend kyoto Sushi to everyone who likes sushi and enjoys a fine dining experience. read more
