    Tuna Tataki

TLDR: cute little sushi shop to satisfy your cravings. Came here because our usual spot was closed, but enjoyed our meal and will be back if we're in the area! Monday Lunch (1:45pm)Order for #2 FOOD *tuna tataki appetizer ($11.95) - originally lacking flavor but after letting it marinate in the sauce for a while it tasted better *sushi lunch special ($9.99) - comes with 6 pieces of a California roll, 5 assorted nigiri, a spicy salmon hand roll, miso soup, and salad - nigiri had a strong wasabi flavor - not necessarily spicy but just - tasty, good combo. Might not be filling enough if you have a big appetite AMBIANCE - did not dine-in, ordered takeout - restaurant is a bit small SERVICE - friendly owner and chef - FYI contactless and Apple Pay not available here

Came here with my fiancé over the weekend, staff is tremendously friendly when we arrived, seated in 15 min which for a Saturday is pretty epic. Didn't know what to start with initially, the chef created some dishes for us to try along with some rolls we picked. We were not disappointed! Food was spot on, kani salad, dragon roll and rainbow rolls certainly stole the show in my opinion. Decor was minimal which is nice, not super cluttered. Plenty of street parking here which is a plus. Can't wait to come back again!

We ordered a platter last minute on a Saturday evening during rush hour. Every single roll came out perfectly! The sushi chef prepared each roll delicately and it showed in both the taste and presentation. This small sushi shop has both dine in and take out. The owners are super friendly and willing to help you if you don't understand the menu, or need recommendation. We brought our platter to a birthday party and it was a huge hit! We are from about 30 minutes away, but we will be back!!

Tired their hwedumpbab and eel rice was really good. Seems like a busy place with takeout/delivery order so it might take longer than expected. Very clean taste.

Amazingly fresh sushi! You may not expect that from this small restaurant. I've tried many of the rolls and they are all great! Nigiri Sushi is made traditionally with some wasabi between the fish and rice. And the slice of sushi is long. Kani salad was also top notch with just the right amount of mayo. No watery pool at the bottom. Will be coming back often!

Great sushi and reasonable prices. Small quiet restaurant with limited seatings. It's probably one of the better local sushi around.

The only issue was that it's a little awkward being the only table in the restaurant and sitting at the sushi bar... Cause we had like eight people attending us and looking at us and listening to our every word. But you can look at it in another way and assume it felt like more of a private dining experience, which is cool. Because it was our first time there, we didn't wanna opt for the Omakase because my husband and I have had mediocre Omakase experiences and they don't come cheap. And something we didn't realize that this place does, that many other Omakase places don't do, is make their sauces in house to pair with the fish. A lot of omakase spots locally don't care to make a budget for sauces when they can get it ready made. A huge unique selling point of this place was at each sauce was separately made and stored in different containers to pair with the fish it was intended for... And when the chef had mentioned that a lot of Omakase places don't do this, It made a lot of sense. We ordered the Hamachi Jalapeño, tuna Crispy rice, tuna 5 ways, single nigiri pieces of sea bream and mackerel on my side and my husband ordered more basic pieces which I can't recall. We also Ordered the Hokkaido scallop cucumber roll. As soon as we tried the apps, we regretted not doing the omakase just because we knew it was gonna be that good. For Context, I haven't found any place in New Jersey that felt like a go to sushi spot that had high-quality fish, incredible pairings and seemingly consistent. The Hamachi jalapeño were bigger cuts of tuna with like this jalapeño paste sauce. It was amazing and proper spicy. No addtl sauce needed. The crispy rice tuna was insane. The hot rice paired with the cold tuna and their fixings were amazing. It didn't look like much, but it packed a huge punch of flavor. I think it might be the wasabi they use But both the wasabi and soy sauce were insanely good The tuna way of our little attempt at omakase ish. They gave you four pieces of Nigiri ( 2 being fatty tuna pieces) And a chopped tuna hand roll. I'm a texture person so I wasn't a fan of the hand, but each piece of tuna was better than the next. The fatty ones were insanely melty and lovely And I just really goes to show that I don't think I've had good high quality, fresh sushi or fish from many places Because no place matched up to this. I had ordered a piece of sea bream which was insanely good. I've never tried anything like that before and if I could, I would order 20 of those alone. The mackerel was really good and not fishy at all as well. The Hokkaido scallop Cucumber roll was very simple, but packed a huge bunch of flavor when you dipped it in the spicy sauce that it was paired with alongside a soy sauce wasabi combo. You could taste the quality and freshness. I was drinking a glass of sparkling wine... The wine was fine before I had the sushi... But drinking a sip while eating my sushi totally changed my palette as the sparkling wine paired so well that it became sweet. Last, but not least the miso cheesecake - Absolutely incredible and made in house. We ordered two more to go And they thought we were joking. That's how good it was. I don't miss New York City when I have sushi from places like this.

I enjoyed the best spider roll of my life. The soft shell crab was encased in the most perfect rice. My boyfriend was wowed with his selections and the green tea was fresh, hot and satisfying. We ended our meal with purple potatoes and ice cream. It was interesting and enjoyable. I would definitely return here especially to use their spotless and stylish bathroom!! Definitely highly recommend though you may need to plan in advance and make a reservation.

We found the quality to be good, especially for the value of the meal. Loved that it wasn't overloaded with rice, too. Encouraged by several posts on local Facebook groups raving about Asahi Sushi's 'all-you-can-eat' option, I recently visited with a large group (four adults and two children). The service was exceptional -- we were seated right away at one of the large group tables, the staff was very responsive, and a massive amount of food which barely fit on the table arrived surprisingly quickly. Diners can order sushi rolls and sashimi as well as a variety of freshly-made traditional Japanese dishes (teriyaki, tempura, etc.) either à la carte (paying for each item ordered) or on an 'all-you-can-eat' (AYCE) basis ($28 for lunch or dinner on Monday through Thursday; $30 for lunch or dinner on Friday through Sunday and holidays). AYCE includes soup, salad, hot and cold appetizers, sushi, sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, and even ice cream or tempura bananas and oreos (if you have room for it after your meal). Even if you're not in the mood for a heavy meal, I still recommend the AYCE option if you're going to order more than two of the premium sushi rolls (which range from $14 to $15 apiece). There's no limit to the number of orders you can place, but it's best to pace yourself by ordering a few items at a time. We ordered a LOT of food for our group, including several hot and cold appetizers, katsu chicken, sashimi, and special rolls. While the quality and freshness of the ingredients was obvious, the overall experience definitely put an emphasis on quantity over quality. I tried the Kiss of Fire roll (made with tuna, salmon, and yellowtail topped with avocado and spicy mayo) and the Outstanding Roll (made with spicy tuna and avocado topped with pepper tuna). Both were perfectly acceptable, but they felt uninspired and lacked the distinct flavor or 'wow factor' that makes a sushi place a true destination. My meal definitely wasn't bad -- the service was great, our large order was served very quickly, and no one got sick. I'd give it 2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 stars. It's a solid, consistent option if you are in the Norwood area, especially for families or large groups. However, it didn't quite live up to the 'must-visit' hype for me. I'd return for the convenience and value, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. PRO TIP: Bring a bottle of wine or beer from home or stop at 86 & Vine right across Livingston Street to enjoy with your meal. Asahi is a BYOB establishment and does not serve alcohol.
