Seriously just order the Hwe Dub Bab. Sooo good (I love the spicy sauce it comes with - like gochujang). I thank the lady down the street at cocohodo for recommending this place and dish. You get miso soup with your lunch special and the hwe dub bab is very similar to "poke" and bibimbap but everything is more deconstructed (rice on the side, sauce on the side). The fish is all on a bed of veg and looks very bibimbap-like, with a twist (raw seafood). You get a really good portion of different sashimi. We also tried the Usuzukuri appetizer, which is Fluke sashimi with special sauce and roe. Husband got the rolls. Super duper reasonably priced and tastes fresh! The restaurant is owned by a cute Korean couple. Felt very homey. We went back to order food for dinner for the fam. Unagi-don is yummers - the eel and unagi sauce is great. Wish there was more sauce to soak the rice underneath cuz that stuff is addicting. The combo platter is so beautifully put together. Was a huge hit with the family! read more

The food is amazing don't get me wrong, but the costumer service is awful. One time me and my family went to dine in. We set down ordered our food and everything was good... Until she brought us our food and also a couple that set across from us. We ate while she interned the back and brought out two water cups. They were for the couple. Last time we went she gave us water without asking which is good customer service, but what changed? We decided not to say anything and went on to eat. We finished and she still didn't bring our water. She checked up on the other customers there but just left us sitting there in the corner. She did this same thing to us last time, but we gave it another chance and thought it was a misunderstanding. Me and my family believe it's a racial thing. Just knowing from our observations. Came here with my fiancé over the weekend, staff is tremendously friendly when we arrived, seated in 15 min which for a Saturday is pretty epic. Didn't know what to start with initially, the chef created some dishes for us to try along with some rolls we picked. We were not disappointed! Food was spot on, kani salad, dragon roll and rainbow rolls certainly stole the show in my opinion. Decor was minimal which is nice, not super cluttered. We ordered a platter last minute on a Saturday evening during rush hour. Every single roll came out perfectly! The sushi chef prepared each roll delicately and it showed in both the taste and presentation. This small sushi shop has both dine in and take out. The owners are super friendly and willing to help you if you don't understand the menu, or need recommendation. We brought our platter to a birthday party and it was a huge hit! I walked in as a single for person for lunch around 2pm on a Saturday. The entire place is empty not a single other guest. I am told they are too busy and to leave!! Completely disgraceful, could it be a race issue? Maybe. I have no clue; never in my life have I been asked to leave a completely empty restaurant because they are too "busy". I grew up in the town next door, this is not how I want to remember my hometown area. Boycott this business for sure. read more

Nigiri Sushi is made traditionally with some wasabi between the fish and rice. And the slice of sushi is long. Kani salad was also top notch with just the right amount of mayo. This is my favorite sushi place this side of the Hudson. The sushi is always fresh. And the couple who run this place are welcoming and skillful. The sashimi bowl was all that I craved during pregnancy. Their sushi was the perfect cool temperature against the hot rice and their spicy sauce is just the right blend of spicy and sweet, but not too sweet. Even my super picky friend says their sashimi bowl is the best. My kids eat the salmon avocado rolls like they're going out of style. The fish and rice are so good they don't even ask for soy sauce. I saw so many great reviews decided to check it out on Saturday night. This is a takeout restaurant. We sat inside 4 tables but we were the only people eating inside. Only the sushi chef and a woman server were working and thats it. The place is cluttered books papers etc. we ordered soup and appetizers and just meh. After waiting over 30 minutes for our main course (some specialty rolls and sashimi plate), it was a very weak average score. Skimpy portions chewy fluke and red snapper. The Tuna was acceptable. In retrospect, we should have went to So Good Korean Bbq across the street. Fyi, we stopped for Pizza on the way home at Jerry's. So much for trying a new sushi place. Lol read more

Hwe Sarang is a wonderful family run sushi spot. The owners made us feel welcomed right away and provided wonderful service throughout our meal. The spot felt warm and very community driven, as there were many regulars that came in while we were there. However, this place is more than just friendly - the sushi is AMAZING. The fish was diced into large pieces in the rolls and tender. The heat was just right. The salmon sushi were generous slices, so I was indeed happy! I got take-out and everything was exquisitely prepared. The staff/owners were very friendly and the food was ready at the time promised. I highly recommend the Hwe Dub Bab, a combination of rice, lettuce, cucumber, avocado, radish, LOTS of raw fish and an AMAZING sweet/mildly spicy sauce that has such a complex flavor. All of the fish was wonderfully fresh. It is clear that the owners take great pride in both the preparation and presentation of their food. All the way down the Closter Dock is a wonderful small quiet sushi place. The fish is fresh. The rolls are tasty. The chef and (I assume) wife team are so warm and friendly.
