Not a ton to choose from but two things here are eye popping delicious. The signature garlic shrimp platter is amazing and out of this world good. Grabbed it to go and included two huge white rice portions plus awesome macaroni side. Shrimp with shells was chefs kiss great. Can't wait to grab it again. I've also enjoyed the Kona lattes which are really really great. It's so hard to find first class Kona around here and it's a real treat, especially on cold winter days. Interior is nice. There's a cotton candy machine too. Lots of smoothie options!! Traditional Hawaiian spam dishes on the menu but I'll make a hard pass (after trying them in Todd Rundgren's restaurant, it's a do not stop scenario). Nice service, great vibes.

Hawaiian Ahi Bowl (Large $16.99) - The sauce is Mayo based. But look at all the onions :(

I randomly ended at this place on their grand opening day and I hate to do this to a business that just opened today, but I want to share my honest review, so that you know what to expect. I wish there was a Yelp review or any review for me to read before coming here. I was tempted to give a score of 1 star, but the staff was super nice and tried to be super accommodating, so I'm giving it 2 stars. ***In a rush? Skip to the end for my tips.*** I really, really, really wanted this place to be good because as soon as I saw their menu on their website, my friend and I were ecstatic that they had Hawaiian shrimp. If you've been to Hawaii and had Giovanni's Shrimp Truck or any of the shrimp trucks in Hawaii, you could probably start imagining how their garlic shrimp tasted. I will rip off the band-aid off of expectation now and tell you that it's nothing like it. Upon seeing and entering the restaurant, you could see that the place is really cute! Right at the entrance, there was a claw machine and they have a cool cotton candy machine that makes cotton candy in pretty shapes. Unfortunately, it was a huge disappointment. We got the following for 2 people. Hawaiian Garlic Shrimp (Large for $16.99) - There were not that many shrimps and there were a few tails. You read that right, shrimp tails with no shrimp. They charged us full price, so I complained to them and they did apologize and say that it was all they had left. So, I told them that they should have not sold it to us or not charge full price if there wasn't enough. So, they gave me some of the spicy garlic shrimp. - The spicy garlic shrimp was slightly better, but overall the shrimp was mushy, like it has been sitting in the sauce all day. And the rice that came with the sauce was mushy. - I noticed that when you order, they don't cook the shrimp dish order fresh. It's already cooked and they just serve it as people order. So, maybe that's why the shrimp was mushy. Or maybe this was the setup only for the grand opening since they assumed that it would be busy? Hawaiian Ahi Bowl (Large for $16.99) - As soon as I ate it, I had to think for a second about what I was tasting. Then, I realized that it tasted more Mexican than Japanese flavoring. It tasted like they put some taco seasoning in it. - And, there were so many tiny diced onions. So many! - The rice for this dish was less mushy, but not good. - If you want to good poke bowl or ahi bowl, ask me and I'll tell you where to go nearby. Mango Smoothie ($5.99) - My friend actually wanted the avocado smoothie, but they said it was sold out. And, when I asked if they had soda, they said that whatever drinks they on the menu is it, which was various smoothies, lemonade, and juices. So, we both got the mango smoothie that didn't taste like mango at all. - Another customer asked them what their base is for their smoothies and they said ice cream, so maybe they didn't put in enough fresh mango? Service was super slow, which was understandable since it was their first day, but it was too slow when they were simply dishing the food and not cooking it to order. I'm sad that this place wasn't good, but I'm willing to give this place another try when they have had a chance to work out their kinks because this place has so much potential. So, I'll be back and will update you again. Tips: - There is only street parking, but usually it's not that hard to find parking. - For the claw machine, you have to use tokens that you get from the register. They are 50 cents each. - Also, for the cotton candy machine, you have to pay with cash, so if you don't have any cash, you could pay at the register with a card and then they will help you get it. - There is seating, but it's more bar style, meaning when you sit, you'll be sitting side to side to the other person. There was one regular table for 4 people, but it seemed occupied. - As I mentioned in my review, there is no soda or water, just whatever drinks they have on their menu. - They do sell 100% Kona Extra Fancy coffee and fancy sushi rice called Hokkaido and rice from The Rice Factory in NYC.

A sweet local gem more people need to try! This is my first encounter of any true Hawaiian food in the Bergen County area and I'm glad to have it close to home. My first experience I had was the U'i combo - Hawaiian garlic shrimp & Hawaiian ahi tuna, plus a side of spam musibi and lychee tea. It surely went above my expectations and left me more than satisfied. I couldn't get enough of that ahi tuna and had to make it the star of my next round at U'i. A huge coffee drinker, and their Kona Americano did not disappoint. The space alone feels homey and welcoming, and the owner is super sweet and friendly. Definitely recommend and will be back to try more of the menu!

I paid $16 for this, are you kidding me? I'd rather pay $1000 to go on a flight to Hawaii and walk to the nearest gas station for poke than order this again.

Very pretty restaurant, with lots of colors and decorations inside. I was surprised to see their gigantic menu that has so many different kinds of items including burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, arepas, papas, ensaladas, patacons, antojos, bakery, desserts and juices. I order couple of beef empanadas and flan to go. The lady packed up my items right away, super quick service. Beef empanadas were filled with beef and potatoes, with delicious green and spicy mayo sauce on the side. I was blown away by the flan. Such creamy taste yet it was dense. Like other flans it wasn't over baked, so it still had light yellow color instead of dark brown on top. My first visit was great. I am going to stop by again to try the other items in the menu.

Both appetizers were excellent! The wings are hot and crispy. While the shish kebob was also really tasty, it has an elongated appearance that looks similar to a specific body part (hence the main reason for a lower appearance rating). While I was apprehensive about trying lamb, the green eggs & ham situation came into effect! As soon as I took my first bite, I was hooked as I devoured that platter! The shawarma sauce is really creamy and it goes with anything and everything! You can either have it on the side or on top of your meal. Some of the dishes, such as the chicken tikka and shish kebob, are cooked on the grill and it will take a few minutes longer. But it's definitely worth the wait! All in all, these Halal entrees are fantastic. The portion sizes are really large; in most cases, one serving will feed 2 parties. As I mentioned in previous reviews, come with an open mind and never judge a book by its cover. #dumontnj #gyroking #halal #shishkebob #chickentikka #shawarma #njfoodie #lamb #lambriceplatter #chickentikkaplatter

I was denied, the person stated that it already in the salad and he wasn't about to give me anymore. I said "Since when is this new?" The employee was just a miserable person. They had other stuff like beans, olives, chickpeas, jalapeños and such. All I want was the salad and a serving of chopped tomatoes and cucumbers. He didn't even really give me much salad to begin with. Then I guess he thought he would be funny and try drowning everything with the white sauce. Had I not already paid, I would've walked out. Never going there again. As a side note, since the platter was $14, I gave a $20 and he wasn't happy because didn't have the change to give me. He kept asking if I had $4. They had no small bills and he was forced to pay me out of the tip jar. I'll never go there again

Everyday Deal: This $9.99 special includes two tacos, chips with salsa, and a fountain drink. The tacos were adequately filled and the chips were a decent side. Unlimited beverage refills are option. Financially, this was a great deal. However, the tacos were bland and it wasn't my preferred menu choice. Also, I feel nacho cheese would have been a better dip for the nachos. Salad Bowl: This specialty menu item is a winner. As you walk down the line, you get to choose a lettuce, protein and sides (most are included, but some will require an up charge). Feel free to select multiple sauces such as sour cream, salsa, and specialty sauce. I always prefer to serve the sauce on the side, but feel free to have the dressings poured on top of the salad. In lieu of croutons, the plate is served in an edible bowl. Expect a crunch in every bite! The service is fast and there are a few tables for indoor dining. One of the minor issues is that there aren't any plastic spoons available. When I return, I'm definitely planning to explore more of the specialty items. Although they are costlier than the everyday deal, they offer a lot more in terms of quality and taste. #bubbakoos #bubbakoosdumont #saladbowl #everydaydeal

I was amazed when I found this little hole-in-the-wall gem in one of my old haunts, Closter. I decided to give it a try. I got two bowls of the beef combo Pho, a single order of the regular beef Pho, the Spicy Ma Mi banh mi sandwich, and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. These items are the easiest to judge, as most of the Vietnamese restaurants around Bergen County and the surrounding area kind of fail, choosing to cater to the population (skimping on spice, choosing western ingredients over authentic Asian ingredients, etc.). When I picked up my call-in order, the woman at the counter was very nice, though not Vietnamese and neither was the cook (not a problem at all, just an observation). She handed my order and I paid with a nice tip. I made it almost half way home when I got a call from the restaurant, and the same person told me she forgot to hand me the Vietnamese Iced Coffee and apologized. I made a u-turn and drove back to Ma Mi Eatery and picked up my drink. None of this exchange knocks any points against them, in fact, I was happy they called me. When I got home and unpacked everything, it all looked pretty authentic. I started with the combo beef Pho, adding all the toppings, plus the condiments of Hoisin sauce and Sriracha. What was missing was the fresh Thai basil! Then I read the menu and saw that they put the basil IN the soup when they serve it, so when I got home, all the basil was wilted. That's a shame because every single AAA Pho restaurant in Westminster, California serves their Pho with fresh Thai basil so customers can control how much basil they want, and to prevent wilting. That is my only real critique. Otherwise, the Pho was delicious, the broth was flavorful, and the really LOADED the soup with beef. Seriously, a lot of places in Westminster aren't that generous with brisket, but Ma Mi made my day. The Spicy Ma Mi banh mi sandwich was delicious, and loaded with all the appropriate toppings and condiments, though I wish they packed the wet ingredients (pickled carrot and daikon, cilantro, jalapeño) so the bread wouldn't get soggy, which it did, slightly. The bread itself was not the best bread I've had, typically, the bread used in most Vietnamese sandwich shops have a flaky crust and airy soft bread inside. This one a bit coarse on the crust with a heavy crunch. The interior was okay though. All in all, it was a great effort. The next time I revisit my hometown, I'll be sure to stop by Ma Mi Eatery for sure.

The Hawaiian style shaved ice and home-made ice cream are top notch. The ice cream is rich and delicious, with some unique flavors, and the shaved ice is very fine - fluffy and evenly slushy in texture and sweetness, unlike the inferior versions where you run into bland chips of ice. The toppings are yum too. The ramen noodles are springy, settled in a savory light broth. For a non-prestige grade ramen, I have no complaints. I also want to acknowledge the lovely hospitality.
