Scallop hibachi with fried rice. Looked like an upscale chinese lunch special but was tadtier than appearance.

So got out of work and decided to check out the local eats in the neighborhood. Ok lets do hibachi japanese in the west side of the nati! I ordered some reisling wine, a chefs choice sashmi and the hibachi scallop dinner. Waitress allowed me to taste the reisling and it matched the taste profile for my dinner so I ordred. A nice German reisling with apple pear and honey notes paired well with the upscale scallop "lunch special" plate. I will admit I was initially disappointed with "chefs choice" sashimi although it did include some "white tuna" pieces but otherwise the typical salmon, tuna and talapia pieces. BUT the pieces were quite tasty after I let the pieces sit for a bit to allow true flavors to come through. It paired nicely with the $15 reisling that sold for $28 a bottle. The hibachi scallops had a little funk taste to be honest. The hibachi shrimp was overcooked and chewy pieces of crusteacians. I advise to skip the ginger sauce. To salty and did not add beneficial flavors to the shrimp or scallops. The fried rice was good for flat top fried rice and the veggies were good. Long story short. Vet the hibachi dor the rice and veggie lunch special but scallops not worth the price given lack of freshness. I give this place a 3 star. I would pay to eat but not go out of my way. Almost a borderline on 2 stars which is eat but someone else pays. But then again this is not Dallas so my options are more limited on the West side of the Nati.

Probably one of the best Hibachi restaurants in the tri state. Most are all the same, with the same menu, but Kabuto stands out above the rest in service, portions, and overall cleanliness of the restaurant. I paired my steak and shrimp combo with an iced cold Kirian Light and I was a happy man. The show / performance was great for first timers, but I rather just skip all that and cook it up and serve.

I was out and about running errands when I drove past Kabuto - I have driven by this restaurant many times - promising to stop in and give it a try - well, tonight was the night - I was greeted by the staff and taken to a booth on the restaurant side of the house - they offer the tabletop dining experience as well - I was surprised at how large the restaurant was - several large parties with children were sitting at the teppanyaki tables having a birthday dinner- they were enjoying the food and the atmosphere quite a bit- they have plenty of drink offerings and a good selection of domestic and imported beer - the atmosphere on the restaurant side has subdued lighting and comfortable booths - my dinner started with an octopus (tako) salad - it was very good- the light vinaigrette complemented the octopus perfectly - I tried the gyoza (potstickers) and missed the crunchy texture that accompanies the steamed wontons - they were tough and rubbery - I tend to be a gyoza snob - so, you might like them - finally, I made several selections from their sushi menu - all in all, the sushi was good - I wasn't sure about the salmon roe or the flying fish roe - they had a slightly metallic taste - not what I am used to - collectively, my experience was very good - for sure, the next visit to Kabuto will be the tabletop cooking experience - give them a try!

We LOVE kabuto- we go once or twice a month. Our whole family loves it. For my daughters 16th birthday dinner last year- we reserved three hibachi sections. That's how much we love it. The past few times we have gone... things have been different. Let's start with the food. The soup is usually a "clear broth" type soup with a few thin sliced mushrooms and scallions. Usually very good. This was basically warm tap water with some floating scallions. The salad tasted very old and was sitting in a half inch of water. The gentleman next to us had more water in his and asked the server why it was like that and she said they were made in huge quantities and stored in the fridge, then the dressing goes on. She said it's salad liquid or water from when they washed the salad. Yum... We ordered 3 appetizers. Harumaki (Japanese spring rolls) were good. Very crisp. The Gyoza (dumplings)- these were barely cooked and were so pale. Barely warm. We didn't finish them. The dynamite roll was very good. The best part of the hibachi is the chef's interaction and this past time.. he didn't do anything. He lit the grill and just started cooking. No volcano, no fun with any of the kids at the table, no broccoli tossing.. he spun the egg twice before hitting it to start the eggs cooking. Our kids and other kids at the table were disappointed. The hibachi dinner itself was pretty food- they forgot my double vegetables- no big deal they said they would replace & they did... but they were terrible. It was a plate of rock hard barely steamed veggies. They weren't put on the grill & tossed in sauce- as they should have been. Our chef was finished cooking and was cleaning the grill- but they make other hibachi dinners for the people in the other portion of the restaurant that don't want to sit at the grill. It should have been made the same way I ordered them. I included a picture so you can see the difference. Overall- the service and the food quality is declining and I hope that they are able to get things back together because it has been one of our favorite restaurants for years. Side note- a group of four at our table, across from us- got up and left (they paid) but left their food because they didn't like it. That is how disappointing it was. Total cost for four people (2 veggie hibachi, 2 chicken hibachi, 3 appetizers, 1 cocktail) *$140 includes 30.00 tip*

Trash service. Some girl "Enni" smiled and acted kinda nice up front. Behind the scenes talking about customers and trashing errrrybody. Super flip in what we expect from Asian restaurant service.. 1-STAR Plus food was ok 4a mouse loL Thnx2 Enni it's a NO-go!

I love this place. I mean, it's hibachi, and they're not exactly reinventing the wheel here, but it's enjoyable nonetheless. I'm somewhat of a picky eater, so I love being able to get my food exactly how I want it. The chefs are always eager and willing to comply with whatever we want and I leave pleased every time! Having been to a trillion teppanyaki grills, I'm hardly there for the show. If you've seen one onion train, you've seen them all. I'm also not a fan of trying to catch raw broccoli in my mouth as it flies off the spatula, so I tend try to avoid this aspect of the dinner presentation. What gives Kabuto an edge over other similar restaurants in the city, for me, is that it's super cheap to double your fried rice, and they have delicious udon noodles for only $1. Definitely get the noodles and slather everything in yum yum sauce We'll be back again and again, because they cook everything just how I like it

Had a pair of meals here, lunch and dinner. The food is fine they're not exceptional, the show is underwhelming compared to what I typically expect for the hibachi upcharge, and the serving sizes are moderate. Again, wouldn't go out of my way for a meal here but it's okay.

Came here during restaurant week just to try the restaurant and can say I will be back!…read more I ordered the Ceaser salad with the short rib empanada and short rib gnocchi. The Ceaser salad was the best Ceaser salad I ever had! The short rib empanada and the gnocchi was good as well but the gnocchi was covered in scallions. That wasn't stated on the menu or by our server when I asked if onions were in the dish, so unfortunately I did have to send that back and have it remade then ate the rest once I got back home. I also tried the Black Angus NY and it melt in my mouth like butter. They were busy and it did take a while for the food to come out but the wait was worth it.

Wow! What a way to spend our 1 year wedding anniversary! I loved this place…read more It has been a few months since eating here but I still find myself thinking about it. Our next trip to Cincinnati; It will be extremely difficult to stay away from here. We spent the day in Newport and around Cincinnati and wanted somewhere nice for the occasion. I was iffy on this place at first... you can throw a rock all over America and hit a place with 'Barrel' in the name these days. The Yelp reviews swing both ways here but I'm here to tell you my take... because it swings so far towards the 5 stars that it's very much a 6 or 7 star place(maybe more). We gauged our arrival time based on other activities that day. We wanted ample time at the nearby Lego exhibit so when we arrived there, we made a reservation for 4:30-5. Eating early and making our way back to Louisville was a great idea. The entire time we were there, no one else came in so we had the entire place to ourselves(It was a Friday). The atmosphere is homey but during busy times, I could see it being noisy. The booths could easily fit 6 people comfortably... probably 8 in some cases depending on how wide some of you are. Special Note: This place highlights The Parrillada Experience for Two on their menu and we wanted it! We didn't order it because at a price tag of 130-and pictures online, we didn't want it to be a failed outing. After our first trip, The Parrillada Exp will be on the agenda next time. It's a mixture of different steaks, sausages, shrimp, sides, and salads. Definitely worth the cost. On to the food: Sausage App - Argentine Chorizo. Farmhouse Sausage. Grilled Ciabatta. Hearts of Palm. Green/Red chimichurri. Pepper Relish. I don't like ordering this type of dish when I go places because you never know if it's going to be delicious or very bad. It ended up being super delicious. We couldn't make up our mind which sauce we liked the best and which meat we liked the best. App PERFECTION! Land and Sea - This is what my wife went with. Asada Skirt Steak. Jumbo Shrimp. Asparagus. Red chimichurri butter. I had bites of the shrimp and it was good. I had to save room for my dish. Wagyu Denver Cut - I went back and forth. Lobster ravioli being on the menu almost made my decision instant but I was going back and forth between ravioli, steak, and a few other things. I asked the server which he recommended of the 4 Chef's cuts. He recommended two... one of which was the Wagyu so I went with it. I wasn't disappointed AT ALL. He mentioned that the Wagyu Denver Cut was a new addition to the menu... I'm not sure but you could definitely tell it was cooked, arranged, and presented with care. I savored every angle of every bite. We also ordered a side of brussels because of course! Originally we were going to dessert somewhere else but went ahead and ordered the Hazelnut Vanilla Creme Brulee here. Perfect ending to the meal. This brulee was light and had the right amount of crunch. It was also larger than expected. We had no complaints with this place. Easily one of the better restaurants I've had in Cincinnati. If you're doubting visiting this place, take the dive! Other notes: They have beer and a small cocktail variety but they primarily seem focused on wine(plenty of options to choose from).

Both were friendly & acknowledged the birthday girl in our party. Atmosphere is great. You could comfortably walk in wearing jeans or come dressed up. Neither would be over or under dressed. The menu has juuuust the right amount of options, which is great! Heather was our waitress & while she was kind, her service skills were lacking. Granted we weren't at a Michelin Star Restaurant, but we also weren't at a dive bar. There was an endless amount of awkward reaching through, over & around when refilling drinks. There were a couple of instances where she actually touched our shoulders to nudge us to the side so she could reach through. Totally not okay during service at a restaurant nicer than a dive bar. We ordered the cheese sticks starter which were so yummy! Highly recommend! A couple of us ordered the Cesar side salad & were highly disappointed. The dressing tasted like it was mayonnaise heavy & then watered down by lettuce that wasn't dried after being rinsed. Even adding tons of extra pepper didn't help. The lettuce also tasted like it has been too wet for too long. The lobster mac was ordered in the group & it was tasty but soooo greasy. So, order with caution. We had the Black N Bleu salad in the group & that was good. The Atlantic Salmon was another dinner ordered & the crust seasoning was delicious! Sadly, the salmon was a bit overdone. It does come with a lobster cream sauce, which confused me. It was only so so & I definitely skipped it entirely. The steamed broccoli was done to perfection though. Not soggy & not too crunchy. We also had the 12oz ribeye & that was great! Flavorful, cooked perfectly! I will add though, that the steak knives need an upgrade. I really wanted to love this place, but we won't return on our next trip to Newport/Cincinnati.

I would have never ordered this on my own so it was nice to try. I am a not a huge seafood person - the minute I cut into it I smelled the sea which was a turn off and I wasn't a fan of the texture but once I cut into tiny pieces and mixed with the sauce and the proscuitto I was able to actually find myself enjoying the dish plus boy did it look pretty coming out! The chefs table is nice because you get to watch everything be cooked - the mac and cheese looks amazing every single time - omg I must try it sometime. My waitress was phenomenal with purple and blue hair and the glittery eye shadow. She was so attentive and helpful. The steak was so juicy and cooked perfectly - I think next time I would get a larger steak or the grilled shrimp option as I wasn't the biggest fan of the lobster tail but still finished it. The salad was okay - I wish it had ranch instead. I also got the orange cream cloud for dessert to go which was shockingly light, airy and delicious - the citrus flavors with the passion fruit are so refreshing. I can't wait to come back and try something new . The place is beautifully decorated and they offer free parking options - the music is very low so you can have a conversation and even the chefs table wasn't too loud even though it was right next to the kitchen.

It's got that coveted feel of cozy mid century modern, while the decor says you could have wandered in for a nice steak after driving out west headed for the desert. The chairs were very comfortable at the high top we were seated at, which isn't typical. The standard seating chairs were beautiful and looked even comfier! The massive wooden and brass bar is definitely the star of the show, and was packed the whole time we were there. My husband got the Dame Prue as his cocktail, it was gin based with rosemary and fresh flowers. It was beautiful and he said it was delicious. For the appetizer and salad, we split the foccacia bread and butter board with the herbed butter, ruby butter, and cowgirl butter; and each had caeser salads. I can honestly say it was THE best Caesar dressing I have ever had, and I'm a caeser snob. The "half" salad portion was definitely larger than any other side salad I have had recently. For dinner, we split the 24oz T-Bone, Mac and Cheese (the smoked gouda takes it over the top decadent!), and thyme braised onions and mushrooms for our entree and sides. For dessert, we got the Tres Leches cake to go, because neither of us could eat another bite. They were exceptionally busy tonight, but our server Becky was apologetic and kept us laughing. We were willing to wait for a truly farm to plate meal, and the wait was worth it. I am itching to go back and try some of the other options on the menu, it was hard to choose between all of them!
