We visit Bamboo House once a week since discovering this gem 2 yrs ago. The flavors are more authentic than other Americanized restaurants. Fresh, hot, made to order food and dipping sauces. Fried won ton and dumpling apps. ( our favorites) are well portioned, plump and served with house made sauces that make all the difference, delicious. Fried rice is clean, simple with yet another delicious flavor. Fried noodles are my husbands must have for that crunch he desires. Entree bowls are also well portioned, filled with wonderful flavors, veggies, chicken, etc. Served HOT. Prefer more of a specific veggie, just ask. Sushi, made to order. I tried vegan, outstanding. Don't forget to try the soups! The misses sent home some egg drop soup when I was under the weather. It was made with REAL chicken broth. Can't wait to add that to our fall / winter order. I'm particular about eating fresh with as few processed ingredients as possible. Bamboo House checked that box on our first visit. This is family owned and run. Pride of ownership and quality of the food is reflected in every dish they prepare. My god!! I had shrimp with noodles and it had a few vegetables. The noodles were fine. The vegetables were soggy but ok. I've never had worse shrimp in my life!! It was like chewing rubber. It had to have been cooked before in a different dish or reheated several times. It did not taste like shrimp, texture was not shrimp... it was terrible!! WORST asian cuisine I have had in all of OH. I came here for the sushi that I was told was good... man was I disappointed. The salmon had zero flavor while it was supposedly "smoked", spicy tuna roll was SO fishy and tasted real bad. Which sucks because the bill of just sushi is completely over priced. A high end sit down sushi restaurant, MR SUSHI (downtown one), charges half off prices for higher quality sushi. I also got fried rice that was odd in flavor and orange chicken which was not good either. Plus, the woman/cashier was RUDE. Bamboo house is our go to place if we are craving sushi and don't feel up to driving to the trendy areas of the City. As always the sushi is fresh and delicious. You must try the sex roll! My wife ordered the tom yum soup. I had a taste of it and had to get one for myself, it was so good. Paired my diner with an ice cold Sapporo and I was a happy man. Many reviewers complain about the service. All I have to say is we always get great friendly service from the owners as this place their restaurant is their "baby". Family owned and operated. If you are on the westside of Cincy and want decent sushi and dont feel like going to Hyde Park or dealing with parking in Mt Adams, or come here. read more

I had low expectations going in based on other recent reviews and expectations were met. I ordered water, hot tea and the 5 piece nigiri lunch. Water came in a bottle and cost $1. Green tea came in a red solo cup and had tea bag and tag thrown in it. I asked to substitute the California roll for a comparable roll on the menu and was told there would be a $2 up charge so I declined. Sushi lunch was $14. The place is small and dirty. Not filthy but not the cleanliness I expect from a restaurant. Soy sauce was placed in a big siracha bottle that has never been wiped down and was, dare I say, filthy. Sushi was OK. The meat portion was very generous but the rice underneath was tiny, almost round and constantly fell apart when briefly dipped in soy. Everything was served on paper plates, which is a bad look for sushi. For the same price you can get muuuuch better quality at some other sushi places (there is a great one a few miles in KY). Not even sure how to rate this. Called ahead and ordered, when I got there I noticed the total was higher than I thought because instead of veggie tempura appetizer she put in the meal. The credit card machine was having issues and they asked if they could write down my card number and enter it later; I politely declined and then had to drive to an ATM. One of the employees had her car parked in front of the restaurant and a dog sitting inside. I saw her come out and give it water when I was coming back from the ATM. Came in 8:30pm on a Wednesday. Wasn't busy, only 2 ppl in there working (cook and server). The two are very nice and welcoming. We dined-in but there was carry-out. The food was really good, sushi size is about 8-10 pieces. I ate almost 3 rolls myself. Would recommend only buying 2 per person if you're getting sushi. They did give us the happy hour discount, which made pricing reasonable. Only negative in my perspective is they did not have many basic rolls. read more

Slow service, but good food. I wasn't overly impressed with the sushi, but it filled me up. I tried a warm Sakura Roll once and it was pretty mushy and weird... So I would stick to the basic rolls here. Also they take their spice level seriously... lowball your heat scale when they ask if you're iffy on heat (My family ordered a 7/10 for our pad thai and I took one bite and couldn't eat any more of it because my mouth felt on fire). Comfortable and small restaurant, but very quiet (no music) and on cold days you'll get hit with the gust of air every time the door opens. Snag a corner table if you can! The family that owns and runs the restaurant is adorable and extremely personable. Their kids often help out and hang at the restaurant - they are well behaved. Store is dirty, with owners child's drawings hung over health inspection certificates and other important restaurant information. Hot and cold sushi was put side-by-side in the same container: not a safe practice for raw fish. Despite the fact that there is a sushi bar, it was made back in the kitchen away from public eye. Synopsis: Overpriced sushi and mediocre/poor Asian food. Go elsewhere. As desperate as I was for Asian food (I only generalize Asian food because it is poorly differentiated here in Cincinnati), I was extremely unimpressed. I think even Panda Express does a better job cooking Asian food than this place. I'm actually embarrassed to think that this place might make some people to think that this is real Asian food. Our experience here started out friendly enough. They gave us complementary fried cream cheese wontons drenched in sweet and sour sauce. That's always a nice gesture. (Sidenote: there is absolutely nothing about cream cheese that is Asian) It all then went downhill from there... First mistake: I made the poor decision to try out their sushi. I ordered their Spider Roll ($11.95) which I thought was a relatively decent price (when you are from LA)...that was until my roll came and it consisted of 6 mediocre pieces of sushi drenched in some dark mystery sushi sauce (see picture). For this price I would at least expect to get the whole crab in my sushi. Second mistake: One of my other friends ordered their hot and sour soup which came with too much black pepper and a side of stale fried wonton skins (?). That was her mistake, but mine was accepting her offer and eating one of her stale fried wonton skins. It tasted like...FISH. I don't know what was more repulsive, the fact that they served stale food or that they fry all their food in the same oil. I almost threw up. I would give it one star if not for the fact that my friend's teriyaki salmon dish looked and smelled decent. Not sure about the taste. Try it If you are feeling adventurous. They also give you fortune cookies at the end of your meal which tastes almost as bad as their chips. BUT, if you're lucky maybe you'll get a fortune so dreadful that it's funny. Believe me, they exist. That definitely made our evening. I'm certain you can find another place better than this to satisfy your sushi or Chinese food cravings...or just Asian food in general. But if you must come here, you have been warned. read more

Love screaming children, inaccurate prices and poor service? Got the perfect place for you! Service was terrible. Waitress clearly wasn't in the mood for customers. There were two small children who clearly belonged to the chef and waitress were loudly yelling and riding bikes around our table while we were eating. The entire time. When mentioned to chef by other customers he gave an apologetic look but did nothing. Oddly the food was alright. After we checked out (had to find the register because our server had disappeared 20 minutes prior) we noticed the bill was a lot higher than we anticipated. Evidently they updated their prices on the register but not their menus. We had a FIVE DOLLAR UPCHARGE on just one item with several others between $1-$2... So a +$10 difference in total. When we went back and asked why we were charged so much (despite showing listed price on menu) the chef just shrugged and said the register was the right amount. I get that this is clearly a family run establishment but don't punish your customers with awful experiences! read more

I can't speak for the sushi but I've ordered dumplings and twin lobster. The dumplings were okay and over filled with coarse onions. The twin lobster was more like a few pieces of lobster with a plethora of vegetables. As far as taste goes, it was sub par.
