Customized a fresh sushi roll in soy paper with brown rice, grilled shrimp, added salmon, with avocado and cucumber, topped with spicy mayo and masago. Stopped in at the Colerain location for a quick lunch on a Saturday. Staff was very helpful with explaining how to create your own bowl or roll from menu offerings. The guy taking my order went as far as to ask me my likes and dislikes and offering suggestions. I decided on a 2 piece, crab rangoon appetizer and a noodle bowl with grilled shrimp and veg in General Tso's sauce. My friend went with a veggie spring roll appetizer and a tofu and veg noodle bowl with ginger sauce. I used the Yelp check in deal ($2 off your order) which ended up getting me my app for free. At check out, the staffer offered me samples of their new boba tea to try. She even encouraged me to try all three if I wanted. The boba was overly sweet for me, but I enjoyed getting to sample it. I came here based on their reviews calling it "a Chinese chipotle" and "the best crab Rangoon" they've ever had. Upon arrival the place was very clean. The man taking orders was friendly but hard to understand. The girl at the cash register looked like she was living a nightmare and being forced to work against her will. She was an unhappy, unfriendly girl. The food itself was good. I was pleased with the amount of shrimp and chicken that we got because some places seem to skimp on the meat. I will agree that it's like a Chinese chipotle but I'm sorry to say the crab Rangoon is not the best I've had. That title is still held by Bangkok Palace in Chillicothe, Ohio. My only suggestion would be to add more vegetable choices for bowls. Currently they have broccoli, onions, corn, jalapeños, and carrots. I have been able to eat at Fusabowl a handful of times now because it is close to my job. I have tried several different things here and mostly enjoyed all of it! It has fast friendly service, and gives you the option to create your own bowl or sushi roll with delicious Asian ingredients. I was initially very enthralled with that idea, as it is like a Subway or Chipotle but with Asian food...I have never seen that anywhere before. Their chicken teriyaki bowl with rice or noodles is my personal favorite option. I have tried different combinations with veggies and all are good, although I have been weary of putting cheese or roasted corn in my Asian food, but it may be great!! They offer some good Japanese beverages like Japanese Ramune soda and an interesting aloe drink that tastes like Kool aid with aloe chunks in it. They also just have a standard soda fountain with Pepsi or whatever. Now, I need to write an ode to one of their appetizers here that is TO DIE FOR....every time I have eaten here, I have had the crab rangoons. And, oh my good Lord, they are divine. I am forever on the look out for good crab rangoons, and these are by far my favorite of all time!! They are perfectly fried, not too thick, not too thin on the outside, crunchy as hell, and BURSTING with delicious crab and cream cheese filling. Most places just put a dot of cream cheese into a wrapper, but at Fusabowl, they actually fill their rangoons with a nice portion of crab and cream cheese. And the filling itself is so flavorful! Sometimes you have a crab rangoon and it tastes like flavorless cream cheese, but these taste like savory crab and cheese and even a hint of onion or some sort of seasoning! They are so good. Mmm! Aside from the rangoons, I would say they don't really have that much of a selection as far as creating your own meal goes. Their sushi and bowls tend to be a little boring and bland. It's like the Sushi version of Chipotle. Sidle up to the counter, point, pick, add, subtract and POOF! your dish is served. It is not as distinctly tasty as your traditional Sushi joints, but I really like the new concept of choose your own sushi fast food. The ingredients were very fresh the day my date and I went. I ordered the veggie sushi roll with cream cheese (10 pieces for 6.75), miso soup, and Crab Rangoon. I think I would forgo the Rangoon-not because it wasn't tasty, but I prefer mine savory and this was more sweet. The miso soup was exactly like every other miso soup I have had...ever...at any restaurant. So it was delicious. I like knowing that some things are constant. The veggie roll was tasty. I feel like all of the flavors complimented each other nicely-lettuce, cucumber, carrot, avocado and cream cheese. I also added some tempura for crunch. They have different sauces that you can top it off with, and I tried the general tso's. It wasn't bad, but it neither enhanced or sharpened my roll, so it felt a little like an afterthought. Fusabowl is a great idea for sushi lovers that already know what combinations they like, but there are so many options on the menu, as well as a "create your own" sushi option that I think you could find yourself ordering a cornucopia of madness just out of sheer overstimulation. This was our first time here, and I can see us coming back. It's kinda like a poke bowl, but mixed with hibachi/stir fry. Not completely what I was expecting, but I think I know how to change my order to make it better (no corn next time, it had cilantro which messed with the flavors). I'm not sure if it was the ginger sauce or what they cook it all in, but my dish was very salty, so I'm going to ask to try the sauces next time before picking one. A friend and I had lunch here a few months back, and I'm just now getting around to write the review because really it was very bland and there's not much to say about this location. Or I guess this restaurant. She loves it, and ordered a chicken teriyaki bowl and they did her right, including the additional sauce on the side she asked for, no worries there. My ball though I was a little disappointed with. I just quite a bit disappointed with. Ordered the salmon bowl, asking for it raw, thinking this was like a sushi place and that something that they would do. Almost like a poke bowl . Instead they cooked it all, including overcooking the salmon so just fell apart and had no flavor of the actual fish, overdressed it despite my asking for the dressing on the side, they gave me an additional side of dressing and dressed the actual bowl, and while there were plenty of vegetables included half of them were uncooked and the other half were cooked so together it actually just bounce out to be a very lukewarm, overdone, mess of salmon with slightly Asian flavors. I also had a coupon for free spring roll with the purchase, and the spring roll came out super quick and was exactly what you would expect out of a spring roll, a deep-fried mess of crunchy cabbage and deliciousness, but the sauce they serve with it was just the straight orange sugar sauce stuff that I have never had a taste for. Not their fault, that seems to be conventional wisdom with these kind of Americanized ethnic foods, add sugar and fat, and we will love it! Regardless, I didn't really love the location. Maybe if I'm craving sushi in the area I would give them another shot, because there doesn't seem to be many other quick service locations, but I wouldn't return for what I had ordered . I'm keeping them from two stars because the place was very clean, the staff friendly and quick, our food came out quickly, and again my friend did enjoy her meal. Subway for Sushi - Fusabowl is similar to other Build-Your-Own sushi quick-serves AND includes the option of Grilled Eel, which can be hard to find. This place is housed in a build-out on Colerain and looks an awful lot like an Orange Leaf. I seem to be in the minority here, but I was not impressed with Fusabowl. When I have Asian food, I want it to taste like Asian food. This seemed more like if Chipotle wanted to make Asian food, so they purchased a bottle of sauce at the grocery store, and poured it on in place of Mexican flavors. My salmon was seasoned with black pepper, and some General Tso's sauce was drizzled on top after if was cooked. The noodles had a light soy sauce and black pepper taste. Veggies were a nice touch, but nothing special. Rice was rice kept warm in a rice cooker. The other people in my party felt the same about their food. The fact that the proteins were cut from whole pieces of meat was a plus. The best way to describe it would be protein, rice or noodles, and veggies with some cheap Asian sauce poured on top. read more
