The best sushi! Great service! We had dinner here a couple nights ago and it was fantastic. My husband ordered a beer and I ordered a cup of hot green tea. We ordered the Gyu Sashi - Sliced sashimi style raw beef, served with a raw quail egg and a garlic dipping sauce. It was amazing! I could've ordered multiple of this appetizer. We ordered the Sushi & Sashimi for 2 - the premium selection. It's served with a miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. The soup and salad were pretty good. It's the sushi that's the star, though. The sushi was fabulous! It really is the best sushi that we've had around Cincinnati. As usual, great service too. We'll be back soon. read more

I think Ando ruined any other sushi place for me! A cute spot for a nice date/dinner. I'm usually not the type of person to eat raw fish, but the fatty tuna and uni blew my mind. The fatty tuna was from Mexico and the uni came from Japan. I also got the chicken katsu with curry which was delicious, I had to share with my table. The service was great and they were very patient with us when we were deciding what to get. Everyone there was super nice! We decided to get the blueberry crème brûlée and the dark chocolate cheesecake, the perfect way to end our dinner. Ando is now one of the only places I will come to eat raw fish! I can't believe it's been over ten years since I wrote my first review for Ando. It is still my favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. My husband knows that it's always my first choice when dining out. Whether it's for a hot bowl of udon on a cold winter night or a beautiful sashimi dinner, I know my meal will be great! The service (Jake is our favorite server) is great too :). The dining areas are always clean, and the servers are attentive, efficient, and always willing to make our dining experience better. Love Keiko at the front-of-the-house! Update: They have been serving alcohol for a while now and offer a pretty decent house white for only $18. This time we ordered various sushi rolls that were all excellent. We shared two of the miso cod and tempura vegetables, and I had the pork. The pork was the only dish that missed the mark. Our server Suzanne is always lovely, as is the rest of the very helpful staff. The location is much nicer now than the original building. I called on a Wednesday and left a message for a reservation on Saturday at 7:00 and they had our table ready for us. read more

Way too expensive for the quality of food and service. I love Japanese food and have experience in many similar restaurants. Ando's food is mediocre, waiting is SUPER long even for a bowl of ramen while the restaurant was not busy and only about 50% of the seats were taken. The service was friendly and helpful but not extraordinary, the menus were complicated requiring learning if you are new. The servants as well as the owner could not communicate properly about the 6 menus, as none of them speak fluent English. The ambience is like an ordinary diner not a luxurious fine dining restaurant. And finally, they presented a bill with tips calculated for the food charges AND tax. Should I pay tip for the tax? My feeling was not what one should expect with such premium prices. read more

Ando has moved! It's on reed hartman now. It's no longer on Pfeiffer. I use to go here for lunch all the time. Last night we went to Ando for dinner. And it was amazing! The price is a little higher than lunch but totally worth it. The sushi was fantastic. We got the sushi combo for two with seasonal fish. Service was great. I took a star off for ambiance, just because it's a little lack luster. But this place is def worth your time. We live in mt lookout. So we have been to all the trendy sushi places in the area. My favorite place to go for sushi and splurge a little. It's a mom and pop shop ran by the entire family. Their service is top tier and they always make you feel like you're at their home. Service was quick and very well paced between each dish. If you sit at the bar the chefs behind the counter definitely interact and care what their customers have to say. The restaurant is smaller but it's a very intimate setting. Now onto the food. They have the most fresh cuts of fish/seafood in the tristate. Everything my husband and I had was delicious. The fatty pork just melts in your mouth. The fried squid was very well seasoned and the perfect hint of umami. Wow, totally blown away by this place. As an East Coast sushi snob, I never thought I'd find sushi of this quality in the suburbs of Cincinnati. Boy, was I wrong. I ordered the Sushi Dinner, which was 8 pieces of nigiri plus a roll for $48. They were able to accommodate my request for no uni, and even swapped edamame for the included soup and salad at no extra charge. 5 stars all around! Don't let this little restaurant hidden in a strip mall fool you, this is by far the best sushi in Cincinnati!!! They are very gluten free friendly - menu is marked, they have gf soy sauce, and even made a special side salad with its own dressing. Our table shared the nasu shigyaki appetizer (eggplant), which was excellent. I got the sushi dinner upgraded to the chef's prime selection with spicy tuna as the roll. Every piece of fish was melt in your mouth delicious. The yellowtail scallion roll was also excellent. Although they recently got a liquor license, it's still BYOB ($10 corkage fee per bottle)! Ando Japanese is hands down the most Authentic in Cincinnati. The place is owned by a local family.. the Andos. They truly care so much about the restaurant and their customers and it shows through their service and the food. The fish is always super fresh as they get it shipped from various places. I always get the bento box that includes sushi, side and essentially two entrees with their miso soup and ginger salad. Everything is always fresh and you can taste the quality of their ingredients (even if it's a plain bowl of rice). If you're not a sushi fan, the main menu is really good too and I recommend the teriyaki steak or their soba noodles. read more

Super authentic Japanese with fantastic service. I usually stick to nigiri and sashimi but I do love the rolls here too. Disclaimer, Japanese food is not my first go to but that said, this was a really fun experience. Was invited to a birthday celebration here. Several members in our party had assorted types of sushi which they reported as quite delicious. I ordered the pork gyoza and tried the vegetable tempura. Both were excellent. The ambience of the restaurant was definitely loud as we were seated along a wall with several tables separating various dinner parties, and we were able to clearly her the family conversation next to us throughout our entire dinner. Prices seemed reasonable for a quality food served. Service was at times a little slow, but the restaurant was very busy and it's evident how popular a place this is. Ando is without question the best sushi restaurant in Cincinnati. I have enjoyed going to Ando many times, and now in their new space, the experience just gets better and better each time I go. They treated my group to edamame on the house, which was lovely. Every single person who works at this restaurant is unbelievably kind and hospitable. Their sushi is always fresh & flavorful. I hope to one day try some of the other dishes on their menu (they always look amazing!) but I am so in love with their sushi, I can't imagine ordering anything else. I went to Ando for dinner and was very satisfied with my sushi dinner. I did not come in with high standards as I am accustomed to very high quality sushi living in NYC. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the fish- everything was fresh (not frozen), and very tasty. My only real critique about the sushi is that the ratio of fish to rice was a bit off for both the nigiri and maki rolls. The reason I'm giving 4 starts instead of 5 has mainly to do with the service. They are clearly unorganized and somewhat understaffed. The older woman who's the hostess is very welcoming, but the waiters lack a lot of basic server etiquette. For example, not bringing a spoon with a miso soup, and forgetting parts of my order. But all in all, good experience. I will be coming back next time I'm traveling to Cincinnati for business. read more

This charming authentic Japanese restaurant was a great find. I'm sorry I didn't know about it sooner. We would have been coming here regularly. A lot of people were speaking proper Japanese when we arrived and their menu is a reflection of true cuisine. Hubby ordered sushi so I had to taste it, very fresh and quality ingredients. I ordered the Tonkatsu curry with rice which took me right back home to childhood dinner (but better because it wasn't made from an S&H brick of curry). This is a nice Japanese restaurant that is only open for dinner service. I recommend either coming right when they open or reserving a spot for the night. I came around 5PM, but the restaurant quickly got busy and several tables were already reserved. Service is great, the waitress was polite and attentive despite it getting busy. She gave us recommendations and you could tell she wanted us to have the best meal possible. The overall ambiance was casual. I really liked how the tables were decorated with different freshly cut flowers. Below are my reviews for the dishes I tried: *Corn Suri Nagashi $6.50 - This soup comes in a small bowl. It is a smooth, creamy soup made with fresh grilled summer corn and onion in a konbu shiitake stock. The flavor is rich, both sweet and savory. It tastes a little peppery as well. There are a few little rice puffs sprinkled on top, which gives the soup a nice crunchy texture. I wish the portion size was bigger because it was really tasty, but other than that, I loved this soup and would get it again! *Toritatsuta $9.50 - This appetizer came with 7 chicken nuggets that are marinated in a ginger soy sauce and deep-fried. I was surprised because the chicken is soft but also crispy. The outside is not hard or too crunchy, while the inside is juicy and tender. The lemon juice pairs amazing with the chicken and really elevates the flavor. *Buta Bara Nikomi Don $20 - This dish comes with tender pork belly braised in a dark brown sugar-soy stock served au jus with Japanese pickled vegetables and a soft boiled egg all on top of rice. The egg was cooked perfectly and tasted great. The pork belly is sooo soft and just melts in your mouth. The flavor of the pickled vegetables contrast well with the sweet soy sauce flavor of the overall don. I would get this again. *Gyu Suji $12.50 - This dish comes with tender beef and beef tendon stew in a rich soy sauce with onion and yam noodles. We added the optional raw egg yolk as well. I feel like the egg made the stew creamier, which was nice. The beef is very soft and falls right apart. The noodles are also very special and chewy. The waitress suggested we add shichimi (a Japanese spice mixture). I'm glad we did because the shichimi really enhanced the flavor of the dish. It's a good dish, however, it's not my favorite because the flavor reminds me too much of roast beef stew. TL;DR: Check out the special menu! Lots of yummy options and great if you are a regular looking to try something new. I recommend the Corn Suri Nagashi, Toritatsuta and Buta Bara Nikomi Don. read more

The broth is light and has a very clean taste. Once cooked, you can eat with rice and you have a choice of two different types of dipping sauce to dip all your meats and veggies in. We did not realize it was BYOB so got beer from the nearby gas station I would suggest reservations during a busy time, we went Friday night with reservations and were glad we had them as it was full. We are well traveled but I've never been hugely into sushi until the past year. The menu intimated us but we asked for help. We did a bento sushi box with black cod and a shrimp entree and split it. It was perfect - not too much food but a good variety of sushi. We really enjoyed it as a change of pace. We had excellent, attentive service.
