BEHOLD: THE FUTURE IS NOW I am a man who loooves sushi, and I have a son who loves sushi, and also a son who doesn't! But enough about me. Let's talk about the sushi place. Normal sushi places are fine but they don't give you the real taste of Japan, with crazy robots and stuff you don't understand all over the place and you don't know what's going on and a machine comes up to you and you don't know what it wants or why it's there so you just take something from it and wave and hopefully that's ok. Hey if not, that's ok too because this is American and we're just doing the best we can. They've got conveyor belts here with sushi going down them constantly, and lots of different kinds of sushi like some spicy kinds, and some savory kinds, and some desert kinds too. And if you don't see what you want on the conveyor belt, then you can get a robot to bring you stuff that you've ordered off of the screen that's at every booth, and then the robot comes over and it winks at you ;) It's hard to rate the service because it's half humans and half robots and half conveyor belts, and that adds up to more than one whole, so the scale gets crazy. But the people were friendly and basically said "Yeah have a seat and everything will be ok and the robot will come bring you food or a train will." and you're supposed to just nod and act like that's normal. So you eat the sushi off of the conveyor and then you pay for how many plates you eat plus whatever else you order. The joint is clean and everything seemed like it was working fine, and that's all a man can ask for. That and the food was good. read more

Let's start with the positives: the bullet train that delivers your food is cool, and the conveyor belt runs smoothly. Service is interesting in the way that you've got a waiter, a tablet, and a robot all involved. Besides that, this is some of the worst sushi I've had. It looks like sushi, sure, but the taste doesn't do it any justice. At $3.35 per plate, it's expensive for what you get, especially compared to other revolving sushi chains. There's no automatic plate counting, no fun prizes or rewards, just kind of nothing for the price. If all you want is not-so-fresh fish wrapped in rice and seaweed and drowned in random sauces, maybe this works for you. Personally, I think this place tries too hard to make the sushi unconventional and trendy instead of just focusing on good taste. The Hot Cheetos roll was especially bad. The Cheetos were stale, like they'd been sitting out for days. It just didn't work, none of the rolls did. Overall, the place feels more like a gimmick than a spot for good sushi. I don't know why I waited this long to dine here. My friends at work rave about this place. They told me to be careful, because you can get sucked in and purchasing more than you have to. So it's a sushi bar with a revolving conveyor. They have everything from appetizers, sushi, and desserts. You can order from a kiosk machine. It's delivered by a small train. Your drinks are delivered by a robot. Yes we still have servers that will guide and help you along the line but it's an experience. Be careful, I was not prepared for this so I was grabbing everything from the conveyor and it can get costly. From the kiosks we ordered: Hot sake large Edamame Tuna pizza Salmon avocado roll From the belt, we were grabbing everything from mass sushi and desserts. The food was epic and I really enjoyed our time. My advice is that you come here on an empty stomach and eat your heart desires. That's it. Love it here. I would definitely come back. read more

My lady and I had been wanting to try a revolving sushi place for a while and we're glad we did so with some close friends. The place itself was great too with awesome staff and great food. The atmosphere is absolutely like something straight from Tokyo (I spent a little time there years ago). Each plate coming around on the conveyor is priced at $3.35 a piece and there's a plethora of options coming around all the time. You can order bigger dishes and drinks (including adult libations) from a touchscreen at each table. I could tell you everything we got, but I lost count mere minutes into our dinner, because everything looked great. This makes it a bit dangerous because your eyes become bigger than your stomach. Still, we all had a blast, and we loved all the food. The desserts were great too. Try the tempura Oreos if you have enough room. My lady and I will absolutely be going back. read more

This place was packed for Friday night dinner. Robot trays deliver drinks to the table, and a waitress kindly cleared our table of plates every so often. As for the food, most of the roll options don't feature much actual fish, just a lot of sauce, fried tempura, cream cheese, imitation crab, etc. It's personally not my preferred taste. Many rolls were also very inconsistently sized across plates. I think that most of the draw comes from the novelty of revolving sushi. At the price of $3.25 for most plates, I can find higher quality fish and much better value at other sushi places. This is definitely not to place to come to if you're looking for real sushi, but great for a fun experience (and maybe celebrations--there were multiple birthdays when we came tonight!). read more

The wait was 15-20 minutes on a busy Friday night for our party of 3. It went by quickly since there are cushioned benches inside where you can watch the parade of sushi dishes. I like that each conveyor belt option is a small selection at one price, $3.35 at the time of this review, so you can try a variety of dishes. We tried more than a dozen including dofu skins, Ohio rolls, crab rolls, smoked salmon w cream cheese (mmm!), and more. Ordering extras or drinks is simple and is via the tablet at the table. Drinks are delivered by a robot with several trays and cute "facial" expressions on a computer screen. There's a fun birthday treat promo for kids when they get that robot back up and running soon so that should be fun. read more

I think this place is amazing - like being transported to Tokyo in a Midwest suburban strip mall. Conveyor belt sushi with trains and robots delivering special ordered items. I went at 2:30pm for late lunch, and this is important to know regarding the freshness of the food (which was indeed fresh). My two favorites from the conveyor belt were a marinated salmon sashimi and a spiced yellowtail (sorry I forgot the names of both). The balance of acid/herb/sweet on both were perfect. The nigiri was all fresh (I did have to order the unagi, which arrived at my stool on a Bullet Train). My one disappointment was the fried squid, which was a bit hard and oily (maybe a casualty of my 2:30 dining time?). Other than that, all food was better than most sushi in the area. I ordered their ramen to go and I believe there's a lot of room for improvement. I ordered the tonkotsu and karaage shoyu. The broth was bland which made the entire dish lackluster. There weren't many toppings and not a lot of noodles either to justify almost 10$ a bowl. If I hear about their ramen improving, I may give it another chance. read more

You can order off the iPad in front of you if you don't see what you want. I ended up with 8 plates, and one plate of double salmon sashimi for 35$. The squid is sweet, the salmon is fatty. When Kawa was new it was so much better! Maybe the novelty has worn off. Do not trust the check in wait times especially if you are bigger than a party of 3. I am disappointed in the way they seat their guests. It was a busy Sat night and we were 21st and told 24-39 min and we waited well over an hour. That's not the issue. What bothers me so intensely is that our party of 7 was sidelined when I told the lady in charge that we could split into smaller booths and she proceeded to seat several parties of 2,3 and 4 after me while I was #1 in line. That irritated me a lot when she sat two parties after me side by side. That nonsense cost us another 20 min. I had been #2 and #3 for nearly a half hour. Our drinks took FOREVER and we began eating since we were now going an 1:20 by the time we sat down. Then 2 minutes after our drink arrived we finally got assigned a server and was asked if we needed a refill. Getting a server earlier to see if we had drinks would have been more useful. Then they give you the check and expect 20% or more as suggested gratuity when you serve yourself from the conveyor belt and the robot eventually brings your drink. Asking $30-40 for one refill of drinks was laughable. It will be a very long while before I'm back. We should have chosen next door, Corner Dumpling House. I have much better luck there and having wasabi without a drink in front of you is a bad idea. We had complimentary edamame and French fries (which doesn't even go) wasn't enough of a mea culpa to have me back. I'm not eager to return, it's a pass for me. It's a shame because we had gone to Kawa a lot in the past and promoted it a lot to friends and family. The sushi was also a bit sparse tonight. read more

I would recommend planning accordingly or ordering a custom made dish off of the tablet as these come in bigger portions. They have a lot of traditional decoré and play Japanese pop music. The servers wear formal uniforms and they even have one of the newer robot servers driving around to bring drinks. The service is very quick from order to delivery. Its cool to see your food arrive on one of the several trains running above the conveyor belts. I do wish that Kawa had and all you can eat option (like Sakura Revolving Sushi) so that I could try more of their dishes. Im usually sad when I see the bill versus what I've had. This place is ok. My daughter and I had lunch here recently. She's been several times with her friends but she thought I wouldn't like it because of the quality of the sushi. She was correct. There was some that was pretty good and some that was like grocery store sushi. Some plates I wondered how long it had sat on the belt, circling the restaurant. And I wondered if the belly issues I had for two days afterwards was from this sushi. I was a bit mixed on this... sushi was "ok" and service was automated (not a bad thing). What human service there was ... they were great. No refills on soda? Not sure what they do refill on except water? The food we ordered was pretty quick. The selection that was on conveyor belt was also limited and tasted very similar. The sushi also wasn't wrapped tight and fell apart. It was kind of pricey, by sushi standards even as all plates were $3.25 each for small morsels. The desert was a dressed up version of the cake you get at all you can eat buffets (mass produced squares) with some chocolate filled cone ends. Also $3.25... crème brulee wasn't restaurant (on-site made) or was made from powder. Had a whole milk after taste. We spent $200 for 7 people so we did try almost everything. The teriyaki chicken was $7 but came with a small amount of poorly made chicken and vegetables. With that said, if you know what you're getting, it's great for quick sushi. read more

This was such a cool experience! Obviously there is sushi on a rotating conveyor belt - and it is delicious. The Cincy rolls are good - and keep an eye out for the Chef Specials. We snagged some at the beginning and end of our stay that were different, but both FANTASTIC. Everything is very Japanese - so the robot brings you drinks, but the humans bring the refills :-) Loved the concept. Someone else mentioned in their review when you pay, the staff is standing right there to see what/if you tip. I think that was a little awkward (especially when you aren't really interacting with the staff all that much during your time there), but it was still a fun experience! read more
