We returned after 6 years randomly during winter holidays. The chicken was great and the show put on the chef was excellent. Great place for families but have dinner early to avoid crowds. Kids love this place. They do have kids portion which was perfect. If you want the food to be spicy, you'll need to ask the chef because the baseline meal is mild. read more

Overall it is a solid spot, great lunch specials. Where they are missing is the overall cleanliness. The entire place could be cleaned up, the entrance mats are very dirty and then the floors look like they haven't been mopped regularly. There are recent spill marks that are left on the main dining floor instead of being wiped up. We were there for 40 minutes and nobody touched the spill. It does not look like it's been swept in sometime as well. If those pieces got better consistently then it would be 5/5. read more

Literally sitting in the parking lot after leaving this establishment. A friend called and made reservations for a party of 12 For a birthday luncheon celebration. Dion the server was quite rude, very pushy and did not seem to be thrilled that he was working or that part of his job was to take orders. You could not only sense his frustration but more than once raised his voice with annoyance at a very elderly lady who is hard of hearing In our group. A gentleman at our party asked twice for the tv to please be changed to sports. Both times those requests were ignored. I at one point asked for an alcoholic beverage that was never followed up on only for me to have to ask again 20min for him to tell they were sold out. The WHOLE time he had his air pod in his ear and when he was not directly in front of us he was having a private conversation. His attitude and attention sucked! people like this do not belong in customer service! not sure if those stiletto Nails made him feel some type of way about himself but it wasn't cute nor did it make his customer service good at all! Lastly to the manager, I looked over at one point at the cash machine right next to my seat. You should be ashamed to have a station that unkept, clearly dirty and straight up nasty right next to a guest seat! Visited Tokugawa Japan to celebrate my fiancée's birthday. We were seated quickly and were waited on shortly after sitting down. We ordered the Lovers Dinner, which included two portions of fried rice, vegetables, filet mignon, lobster tail, scallops, and chicken. We also got soup and salad. The miso soup was the best I've had from a Japanese restaurant, it was great. Salad was good. Of course, the highlight of dinner was the grill and the proteins. We loved it all. Our chef did a great job and was not only entertaining but cooked everything perfectly. The filet melted in my mouth like butter, the scallops were perfect, and the chicken and lobster were great. The scallops and filet were definitely our favorites. Besides the food, I enjoyed the aesthetic of the restaurant, and it was clean and kept up nicely. This is just like Benihana. The food was good. They do double grills. For example, our chef had 10 people and 2 babies, and the other chef had 4 people. There is no ambiance in the place. Reservations are through google or calling. We told them about a birthday but they forgot. The 1 year old had a party there. They don't do dessert or anything for birthdays except singing. Drinks were reasonably priced and on the strong side. Chairs are too packed together. They have a non hibachi side. Steak was overcooked. Chef split shrimp up wrong. If you ordered shrimp with your meal, you got 5, and everyone else got 2. The menu said 1 shrimp appertizer, so our shrimp went to the other people. The chef seemed to know the others, so gave all the extras to the large group. Sadly, they left it to be pitched. We would have eaten or taken home. Soup and salad were fine. SUMO meal filet, chicken, and shrimp was on the light side. Weird that veggies were done at the end. read more

I wish I could have a review for the food however.... I am a person who looks for the best in the restaurant and to date have enjoyed leaving helpful reviews. The only thing I can say positive about this restaurant is that they take reservations. Advice given to me is get there before 6:00 and I will not need reservations. Arrival of 8 persons at 5:15 was given 25-30 minute estimate after seating nearly 35-40 people ahead of us who had reservations at 6:15, 6:20, etc we obviously did not get seated before reservation rush. Hostess was poorly trained and overwhelmed. Honey if you dont put butts in the empty chairs the cooks can't cook and the table can't be flipped. So prioritizing new guests arriving just to give them wrong estimates probably not ideal. When I asked at 65 minutes to speak to the manger he never came but I observed her arguing with him so I approached him and expressed my displeasure but after 70 minutes I told him we were leaving he said yeah okay. In today's economy with choices that attitude I'd like a death wish. So I can't provide a review on the food ever because I will never go back. The entire 70 minute experience represents poor restaurant management. After reading the reviews I see I wasn't the first to experience poor lobby management. read more

My daughter and I went here for dinner one night, so it was just the two of us. we were seated extremely fast, had our drinks quickly and ordered all within a very short amount of time of seating. From there, however the wait was quite a long one for our chef. once he came out, the entertainment was as expected, as we have been too many Japanese steak houses where they cook in front of you. I'll have the same quirky little shows. This place did little pieces of broccoli that they threw to you instead of shrimp that I'm used to in other places. but they did hand out squirts of sake to make up for it. The rice and noodles were excellent and the meat and vegetables are always my favorite. I did order some edamame and it was cooked perfectly. My wife and I ordered carry out from here a couple weeks ago. The menu is quite expansive but I eventually decided on the Chicken Katsu and my wife got the Hibachi Salmon. Everything was still hot when we arrived home and broke everything out of the bag. both of our dishes came with a small side salad, Miso soup, and a bowl of rice (my wife's came with fried rice). The salad was basically just lettuce with a dressing--a bit underwhelming. The Miso soup was utterly tasteless and had two pieces of mushroom and green onion, but otherwise was just broth. The rice, however, was amazing. Even mine, which was just plain white rice was perfectly cooked, fluffy, and delightful, and with just a drizzle of sauce, was honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. Speaking of sauces, we had quite an abundance. The katsu came with a barbecue vinegar-esque sauce (the Pungest sauce, I believe?), which was quite tasty with the chicken. There was a brown almost peanut-like sauce, delicious as well. But the one I liked the best was an extremely creamy sweet mayo-mustard sauce (my best guess as to its contents, at least). As for the Chicken katsu itself, it was unfortunately rather bland. I was hoping for tender, juicy chicken in a crispy, seasoned panko coating, but it was mostly flavorless. The various delicious sauces helped keep the dish exciting, though. My wife's Hibachi Salmon was quite tasty, though, served with shrimp in a flavorful brown sauce, with a side of sauteed vegetables. I would generally choose chicken over fish, hence my order, but my wife's meal was certainly superior to my own. Overall, I'd likely order from Tokugawa again, but I wouldn't get the katsu, and I'd forgo the Miso soup next time. read more

I hosted a Birthday celebration here last night. This is our second time coming to this restaurant. I know the food isn't top notch, but it's fun for kids. I brought 11 people to the restaurant. I told the waiter upfront that I had a shellfish allergy. I ordered Fried Rice with chicken, which is not Hibachi. It's about $10 cheaper, but my main concern was the allergy. When the cook came out, I reminded him as well. He said he could cook mine first, I said that I was okay with mine being cooked in the back. He gave me rice off the grill. Then, he threw the shrimp on and you could tell he forgot and realized. Then he hesitated and he was going to cook my chicken on the grill with the same spatula. We stopped him, & told him to just have mine cooked in the back. He told the waitress that mine needed to be cooked in the back while he continued cooking. When he finished cooking for the rest of the party, I still had no chicken. Then, 15 minutes later, after everyone was finishing up, I finally got my food. I was then charged $21 for my Hibachi chicken. I alerted the waitress, and she came back with "my manager said because you got the rice Hibachi we cannot modify your check." Uh, and my check had someone else's spring rolls on it to boot. So, I brought them $400+ of business, and they wouldn't even adjust my bill, when ultimately, I should have been comped my entire meal since I didn't get served until after everyone was finished eating. The kicker was, I originally ordered "Fried Rice with Chicken" which, on their menu, is very clear that is cooked off grill. I even told the waitress that I don't care to have mine Hibachi. I now live in Milford, and go out to eat often. This is one of the few places my children like to go to, so I would probably bring the restaurant this kind of business 1-2 x a year. Now, they've lost my business. The food is just okay for the price paid. The tuna roll was ground tuna. The rice and veggies were good. Also, I don't understand why they have sports on their very large tv's. Takes away from the ambiance. read more

This place was a GREAT find. We were looking for a hibachi restaurant to celebrate my son's 9th birthday (hibachi is his favorite). Due to the coronavirus most of the places we knew of were not accepting dine-in patrons (although the state allows it now). Tokugawa was one of the few places open for dine-in. So we left our friendly confines of the city to venture out to Milford, a city with about as much culture as a campground. Upon arrival we first noticed the nice a deck, an unusual but welcome feature for a hibachi grill. Once inside, the building looked very clean and updated. Big TVs hung on the wall, another surprising feature for a hibachi grill. A water feature with bubbles looked nice, but almost an cheap attempt to look high end, kind of out of place. My kids liked it though. The staff was friendly and helpful, from the hostess to the waitress and chef. Our drinks were always full, and the chef was engaging and fun, a trademark of hibachi grills. The soup and salads came out promptly. the food, if I am being 100% honest, tastes just like the other hibachi grills we have visited over the years. Which is not bad- we love the food cooked on the flat top! A couple of notes- the shrimp appetizer that's included is just two pieces, less than other establishments. They don't offer brown rice, just fried. We brought our former-vegetarian friend, who has moved up to eating two legged animals but not four. She asked for the steak to be cooked away from the rest of the food, but the cook instead mixed the rest of the food on the steak grease, which was not helpful, but maybe an odd request they are not used to. The soup came out barely warm, so one in our group asked for an alternative. They brought her out a steaming hot cup of miso soup, which was apparently delightful. In summary I'd be an absolute clown to give this restaurant anything less than five stars. The fact that we had an almost perfect experience when they just reopened for dine-in service is remarkable. I expect the few hitches we had would be addressed as they get back to business as usual. Expect some bumps in the road along the way, but please be understanding. read more

They have a choice of sit and dine of habachi, I don't know how it's like for the sitting one but the habachi is always really good. I also get takeout sometimes too and it's really good also.
