I was told my carryout order would take 15-20 minutes, but the order placed at 6:38 pm was not ready until almost an hour later (7:31). We were not offered compensation except for a free drink while while waiting. They were not busy. The food was not good. I had Pad See Yu and the noodles were mushy, it was ordered "hot" but had only mild spice level. The teriyaki vegetable dish was ridiculous; I had to make another dinner for that family member. The sauce was watery and not flavorful, and probably 70% of the "mixed" vegetables were large pieces of sliced carrot. The few pieces of broccoli had very long very hard stalks and small florets. This was also the case for the broccoli in my dish (see pic). We always eat our leftovers, but in this case no one wanted them. I did not return the food to the restaurant because we live 15-18 minutes away. It would have taken another half-hour at *minimum* meaning 8:30 or later for dinner, and everyone was already starving because it had taken so long. When I pay almost a HUNDRED dollars for 4 basic meals, one appetizer and a spring roll, I expect the food to be decent. It was not good AND it took exactly 52 minutes from the time I called it in. Previous orders of Ban Thai were fine-to-okay, but after this experience, I doubt we will be back. read more

I was really looking forward to the food, but honestly wasn't impressed. The "Between the Sheet" was semi tasty, but not what I expected at all. It was basically a chicken finger. The steamed Shumai was tiny. It was round and about the size of a nickel. Six of those in an order is nothing. It's like three full size dumplings. The hot and sour shrimp soup was okay. I've had much better but it was about the only thing that we ordered that was finished. I don't really even want to talk about the beef salad. The beef was so overcooked was more like jerky. The mushrooms were undercooked. The scallions weren't cooked. The sauce was not good. A little bit sweet. A little bit sour but the flavors just didn't come together. We basically tossed it in the trash. For what we got, I would have been happy paying half the price. For what we ate, we really needed about a quarter of the price. I stopped in for dinner last night with my daughter but it will be our last visit. We ordered the Between the Sheets appetizer and two Sushi Deluxe dinners. We were served one order of Sushi Deluxe. Then about 10 minutes later the appetizer came out. We started to eat the appetizer and it was pretty good. I wouldn't have ordered it again if I would've returned - as it was basically chicken strips with sweet Thai sauce. Neither of us could detect the shrimp that was supposed to be in the with chicken. Didn't see it or taste it. We waited for at least another 10 minutes - because we were trying to get someone's attention - before I asked when we would get the other sushi dinner. Apparently, she didn't understand that we wanted two dinners. I'm not sure why since we both spoke/ordered separately. They apologized and we both told them it was no big deal. Stuff happens. I started to eat my sushi and realize that the texture is just 'off'. Nothing smelled weird but the taste was just kind of blah and the texture of it all was tough. Then when the tuna fell off of my rice I could see that my rice was pink from the tuna. Not a good sign when gas or color is pumped into the fish to make it appear fresher. Fresh, unaltered tuna does not leave a pink ring of residue on rice. In the meantime we're still waiting on my daughter's sushi. I'm looking around and see that it's sitting on top of the sushi case and the server is leaning on a counter nearby. A different lady - who had come out of the back to help with the tables - noticed that the sushi dinner was just sitting, asked the server about it and then brought it our table. (they were not busy - the server was just not good) My daughter said the same thing about the sushi. The texture was off. Neither of us finished the sushi and when the server came around and asked if we wanted a box we told her "yes". The sushi chef came over to the table to apologize again for the mixup and we assured him that it was fine. He said that he had taken the appetizer price from the bill. We said that was not necessary but appreciated it. We left and then dropped the leftover sushi into my daughter's outside trash can. Still - that's not why the 1 star. The 1 star is for the HAIR in the appetizer that I ate and didn't know I ate!!! Yep, a hair! I saw it in the picture I took. Saw it even without zooming in that much and I have bad eyes. That's why I didn't see it in the dimly lit restaurant last night. I'll post the picture and you can clearly see black hair on the chicken. I believe it's the first piece that I grabbed. I'm so disgusted!! I guess it's a good thing that I was not charged for the hairy appetizer. Seriously, I have been so grossed out all day knowing that I consumed someone's hair. I want to thank Yelp for helping us find this restaurant. We were craving Thai food and Sushi so my Mr. looked up a couple in the EastGate area and found this. The ratings and menu were very impressive that we had to check it out. So glad we did. Everything from beginning to end was perfect! We dined in on a Friday night. They were steady and had a lot of take out on orders. We were seated and waited on right away. They have everything on this menu. Sushi, appetizers, salads, entrees, bento box, lunch specials, full bar however no specialty drinks. They only serve hot sake not cold. We ordered: Drinks: Pinot Grigio Singha Appetizer: Thai Rolls Dinner: Crispy pad Thai (add tofu) Philadelphia roll Salmon avocado roll The Thai rolls came out first and following the sushi. Both were delicious and paired well with our drinks. We wanted to split the crispy pad Thai. I haven't had one in years. The spice level, medium. It was so good! Not Americanize (sweet) and great flavor. We didn't get to finish the paid Thai because they gave us a lot. So we took the rest home. The restaurant is very clean and open. Very welcoming. My lady and I were heading to Eastgate and wanted to get some sushi, so I looked here on Yelp for a good spot, and happened upon this place with some great reviews. Glad I found it because the place was excellent and easy to find. Plus we had more than just the sushi. We stopped by on a Friday night for dinner. The place itself is very nicely decorated and actually reminded me of my time in Thailand many years ago. Can't say that of many Thai restaurants. Their menu is a nice combination of Thai and Japanese cuisine so I'd say they have something virtually anyone can enjoy. They also have a full bar and a good list of libations, but I was a little disappointed by the lack of sake (they only had one hot sake option). All the staff were super friendly and worked as a team. We started out with an order of Thai rolls, a glass of pinot grigio for my lady, and a Singha for me (one of my favorite Thai beers). The rolls came out pretty fast and were very tasty. They were even good without the sweet and sour sauce. After that, we ordered two sushi rolls (one Philadelphia roll and one salmon avocado roll) and an order of crispy pad Thai with tofu (medium spicy). Again, we didn't wait long at all, and everything was delicious. The sushi tasted very fresh and the pad Thai had a nice spicy kick. We both definitely enjoyed the experience and are already planning on going back. I really want to try their rad nar, which is one of my all-time favorite Thai noodle dishes. We came here because I was craving Thai food from our move. It was nearby and it looks like it had really good ratings. When we got there I was surprised how fancy the restaurant looked inside lol, I was not expecting that. Anywho the staff was really attentive and our food came out super quick. We ordered the wonton cream cheese crab rangoon and that was pretty good. It came out within like a couple of minutes of ordering and it came out hot. Pretty tasty. My husband and mother-in-law ordered Curry and they both really liked it. My husband really liked his because the sweet potato was something different and he really enjoyed it. My mother-in-law, it was her first time eating Thai food and Thai curry - she really enjoyed it. Her only feedback would be that she would want her veggies to be cooked a bit more and less crunchy, otherwise it was good. I ordered their pad Thai and it was pretty good but what I didn't like was that the noodles were really short. I'm used to long rice noodles so this was kind of new to me. The curry can be mild enough for a child, or hot enough to make an adult perspire- just ask for your preferred spice level. Service is fast except when there are over 10 tables seated but even then, the serving time is reasonable. This place is amazing! Literally everything I have tasted couldn't have been made any better, except for the avacado roll which that is basic. Being so basic though, it shouldn't have been $6 for 6 little pieces. This is my only complaint out of the place. It's a touch too expensive, especially the sushi. I had the cashew chicken with a mild spice level. If I had made it a medium it would hands down be my favorite cashew chicken ever. Cashew chicken is one of my favorite meals so this is saying a lot. I was sharing with my daughters though and one hates any spice. She thought it was perfect and ate a ton of it. I also got the chicken pad thai with a mild spice level so I could share with them. This time however, they brought out extra spicy sauce for me to add to it myself. Me and the other daughter who loves spicy food added some of that making it perfection. I also tried one of my sisters Thai rolls and it too was delicious. It came with sweet and sour sauce that was the beat sweet and sour sauce I have ever tried. I think the sauces are one of the things that make this place. They have really nailed the flavors. Finally, I love that most of the menu can be made gluten free. This means so much to me having a daughter with celiac disease and being intolerant myself. Because of this, I will forever come here when I make Jungle Jim runs, as it's super close by. read more

This place strikes a great balance between variety, cost and quality! It's not fancy, but definitely satisfying! The first thing to notice is how fast their menu is. Don't let the name fool you, they have much more than just thai. All the standard Thai staples on top of other Asians foods like teriyaki and sushi. Since it's a good barometer to measure a place by i ordered a pad see ew with chicken and shrimp. Never a wait for lunch during the week and everything I've tried has been great. The spice level ranges from mild to medium to hot. Medium is my comfort zone--I could probably handle hot, but I like to still taste my food. Pleasantly spicy without overwhelming the other ingredients. My go-to orders are pad Thai and pad see ew. The Thai lunch dishes come with a small spring roll on the side, which makes for a nice little appetizer with your meal. Portions are not too big, not too small. My wife and I have ordered carryout from Ban Thai three or four times now over the course of the last year, most recently just a few days ago. The first time, we wanted to try a nice variety of their menu, so we got a couple sushi rolls (I can't remember exactly which ones, but they likely featured eel, salmon, or tuna), crab rangoon, a thai roll, and the hot basil fried rice. We really enjoyed the entree and the sushi, but were somewhat unimpressed with the appetizers. The appetizers were fairly lukewarm by the time we got them, so that likely affected the taste. We really enjoy Thai food, and wanted to give Ban Thai a couple more tries, and most recently, we each ordered their pad thai (mine with chicken, hers with tofu), and opted to try the crab rangoon again (because I can't help myself). And it was very tasty. Delicious sweet peanut sauce with some spice, well-cooked chicken, and crunchy bean sprouts. Overall just a very good meal, and indicative that the classics can sometimes be best. And the crab rangoon was better this time around. Still hot, and generally better flavor. While I'm skeptical of some of the sides/appetizers, we've enjoyed our entrees a lot each time we've ordered from here, so we will likely continue to do so when we're in the mood for Thai food. read more

I had been wanting to try Ban Thai for a while as id heard many good things. During the take out only phase of 2020, I decided to support local and try them out. It was easy to order from their website for quick pickup. I noticed they had some great lunch deals, so I planned to take advantage of that. When I arrived everything was ready and hot, but it felt a little weird, all the lights off, was a bit confusing wandering in. I went with the Bento lunch special #4 which came with fried rice, a piece of fruit, salad, and a spring roll. I also ordered the pad thai with chicken which came with a side of spring roll. This was my last stop so I took it right home. Now I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say that perhaps they were using up ingredients, or were short staffed, but I was really disappointed. The sushi was just ok. The salad and fruit were fairly fresh. The spring rolls were overdone. The fried rice was ok, but had an overpowering odd flavor, perhaps too much soy? The pad thai was what I was most disappointed about. While the noodles and flavor were there, the chicken was... weird. It was rubbery and not of high quality. I literally picked out every single piece of chicken and went about just eating the noodles. Spice level at medium was just right. The portion sizes were large and a great value, but the quality just wasn't there. I hope to give them another try after this is all over, and perhaps sit down at the actual restaurant. read more
