Very disappointed with my experience at Teak Thai. I ordered the Spicy Spider Roll expecting to enjoy crispy soft-shell crab, but there was virtually no crab flavor at all. The roll was mostly imitation crab meat, which overpowered everything else. There was also no crunch--the entire roll was soggy rather than crispy. What made the experience even worse was the service. When I brought up my concern, the waiter was rude and dismissive. The manager showed little interest in addressing the issue or making things right. For the price, I expected much better food quality and customer service. Unfortunately, I left feeling that my concerns were ignored. I visited Teak while on a work trip in town. I was so impressed by the kindness of the team, delicious food, and range of options on the menu. When I arrived I was nervous that they would not be able the accommodate our 7-person group. They were so quick to put tables together for us. And the space is so lovely. Several large tables in the middle, a few along the windows. Beautiful lights flow down from the ceiling. Each of us had delightful cocktails and entrees and we even shared some appetizers. Unfortunately, phone did not eat first! From what we tried, everyone loved the coconut shrimp, pad thais, thai tea, and the sushi rolls. I can attest to the J-Lo roll. It was so flavorful and it was the perfect amount of food. The best part was knowing that everyone I brought had a meal they enjoyed. Teak is in a very convenient location in the OTR, directly across the street from Washington Park. We went on a late Friday afternoon and found parking easily. When we arrived, I asked for a seat by the window and the hostess let us choose whichever table we preferred. The restaurant is cute and modern with a lot of natural light. I explained to the server that I prefer a sweeter cocktail and asked for her recommendation. She suggested the Thai Island, which sounded on the sweet side in the description, so I ordered that. I don't know if it's always this way but it was so tart I couldn't drink it, but our server brought a side of simple syrup for me to add and that did the trick. We ordered an app to share and then each got main dishes. I had the Thai style cashew chicken, which was good but not great. My husband and I grabbed dinner at Teak when we came downtown for Blink 2024. Our server was extremely sweet and polite, and despite being extremely busy, we received our drinks and food pretty fast. For an appetizer, we shared the Crab Puffs, which were out of this world! Such great flavor, and the sauce that came with it was the perfect complement. For my entree, I ordered Pad Thai with Shrimp, and my husband ordered the Pineapple Fried Rice. Both dishes were excellent. (I, of course, had to try my husband's rice.) Although I haven't tried a large portion of the menu, the food I've had at Teak has been really great! My favorite is the tom kha gai, a creamy coconut soup with chicken and mushrooms. I searched all over Cincinnati to find a place that would make it in the hot pot because I think it tastes much better, and they were kind enough to prepare it this way for us. I visited during a business trip with a colleague who was local to the area. She recommended Teak as a great place for Thai food. She was spot on!! We stopped there for lunch. Nokki was our server and was very attentive. My colleague had the chicken with coconut milk soup along with chicken pad thai. She ended up taking most of it home. A great value at $11. I had the seafood delight which came with shrimp, salmon, imitation crab and mussels. It was also delicious. At a heat of 6 or 7, not too spicy either. That said, I kept thinking "crispy" was in the name, but it's not. Perhaps my crispy expectations were too high. The sauce was a good pairing. The "spicy" appeared to be hot sauce sprinkled here and there. Some bites were very spicy, others not so much. I'm not a fan of hot sauce. I don't think we'd order this again. I really wanted sashimi, but the Seafood Choo Chee kept calling me. I answered. I'm glad I did. The spice level of 4 was perfect for me. The salmon was plentiful. The tomatoes provided an outstandingly flavorful bite. The curry sauce was delicious. I enjoyed this dish. Mark liked his Thai Spicy Chicken. Spice level of 7 was not too hot for him. He mentioned the food was not as temperature hot as it should have been, which is a bit of a bummer. Still, he ate it all. I do feel like we were rushed a bit, but I think it was the result of a misunderstanding. Our waitress asked if we needed anything else. I asked for more water and she brought us to-go boxes, which we didn't need. I was interested in dessert, but we didn't ask if they had any so that's on me. My assumption is they do not have desserts because none were offered. I always seem to leave this info at the end of my review. It belongs at the beginning, but I'm too lazy to switch things around at this point. It was Saturday and our reservation was for 5:45. The place was packed. It had cleared out a bit by the time we left, which was 6:40 or so. That said, the waitress said it was going to get much, much busier later because of the FCC game. Anniversary night out in OTR with dinner at Teak before the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra performance at SCPA. I have eaten at Teak in the Mt Adams location before they moved and always enjoyed it. We had reservations for 5:30pm and arrived early as we couldn't walk anymore (visited the Cincinnati Art Museum and walked miles...). They said no problem and seated us at a great table immediately. The vibe was contemporary with a nice bar and ample but not crowded seating. EVERYTHING on the menu looked appetizing so we ordered more than two self-respecting people should. My husband took me here on a surprise dinner before we headed to watch a show at Cincy Shakes. I was pretty excited because I've been wanting to try it! While service was good and wait staff friendly, I don't know that I'd go out of my way to return for the food again. Firstly, their menu has a lot of technical issues. My husband got the Mango Tango Izumi Dai, and while the printed menu said it came with scallops, the online menu (which ended up being correct) said it came with tilapia. Had I ordered that hoping for scallops I would have been really disappointed. There were other similar mistakes for other items on the menu. Flavor wise though the dish was pretty tasty and the fish was well cooked and crispy. I had the Jungle Noodles. Overall good flavor, but nothing unlike noodles from any other Asian takeout place. I was bummed to leave my leftovers behind because we couldn't take them to Cincy Shakes with us. We also had the lettuce wraps, which are basically the same as PF Chang's in terms of flavor. I wish I had ordered the dim sum and spring rolls instead, but I'll try those (along with sushi) if I return in the future. read more

They have been making Asian food since 1996. Right across the street from Washington Park (stop #14 on the free Cincinnati Bell Connector trolley). The food is yummy! I'm definitely coming back. Who would have known that I would have found a nice Thai and Japanese place in Cincinnati Ohio... really close to downtown. I took the free Cincinnati Bell connector trolley from downtown to this place 0.7 miles away or so and was very happy. They make this amazing natural ginger dressing for their ginger salad $7 (cherry tomatos, lettuce, spinach). It's pure ginger and carrots and other ingredients. It's rare that any restaurant makes this pure natural tasty ginger sauce like they do. The seafood delight $16 was tasty with their home made brown sauce and a medley of mussels, salmon pieces, imitation crab, shrimp, carrots, broccoli, onion, and I asked for extra garlic which they were kind to add. It comes with Jasmine rice so you don't pay extra for rice :-). I always get upset at other restaurants when they charge for rice bc how can you charge for rice that is not only necessary as a staple with dishes but it's not expensive. The 2 spring rolls are fried and come with 3 sauces (spicy red, mustard, and sweet and sour) and it's $5. I personally didn't like the spring rolls much bc I love the ingredients but would prefer it to be rolled in rice wraps without the deep fried skins. It would feel healthier and would taste better to me. The staff were great and the owner was gracious and kind and humble. The decor is soothing and pretty. The bathroom is clean. It's right on the same side as the Cincinnati Bell connector trolley so it's very convenient to get to. And you can hop back on before 11:30pm when it stops running Monday to Friday. It also runs on weekends but not that late. Overall great place and next time I will try the Japanese food. But will also try the Pad Thai. read more

A dry heat that really snuck up on you, but soooo good. If ordered again, I probably would ask for no bell Peppers and request extra basil. Sushi appetizer: it disappeared super quickly! I came to Teak on a Sunday night to have a meal before I saw a show at Symphony Hall. It was very easy to find parking on the street, and it's in a great location downtown. Make a reservation! It was packed, even on a Sunday night. I was seated right away, but it took my server a bit to get to me as they were busy. This place was packed when we went! Really yummy food! From the fried calamari appetizer with a great sauce, tofu pad thai, and rolls/sushi galore. 4 stars, you ask why. Well, the restaurant was incredibly noisy, like screaming at each other hard to hear situation. They hand you write-in sushi menus but they've already been written in and they don't want you to. I suggest a laminated sushi menu and dry-erase board markers. The nigiri protein to rice ratio was off, while some would consider that to be an ooh lala got more of the expensive stuff, it's really about the bite in which case was uneven. They also didn't have ponzu sauce available (seems like a staple, especially for a place that sells sushi...). I will say we ate with our eyes and took home extra pad thai BUT zapping it in the microwave not only was it good but that time in the fridge getting all saucy made it EVEN better. I'd go again, pad thai is definitely a return order choice but I'd consider going during a less busy time for a potentially quieter more enjoyable seated experience. read more

The new location is industrial chic but with warm, eye-catching details like pendulum glass ball chandeliers and the impressive custom bar cabinetry. The noise level is high here, and the service is slower than expected, but if you like Thai food and want an elegant night out, Teak OTR is a natural choice. On this visit, I tried the Holy Basil Leaves at a heat level of 6. The spice level was a little more than I could handle, so I'd select level 4 next visit. I loved the dish. It was vegetable-forward with bell pepper, onion, baby corn, and mushrooms, all stir-fried with chicken. The best thing about the preparation was the glossy Thai basil-infused sauce and how it coated the steamed rice. Examples, papaya salad, very bland and basic Ahi Tuna rolls again not particularly tasty without adding condiments. The chow fun and tofu was OK. I got a soft shell crab roll, which could've really used a good splash of ponzu or other flavor enhancing sauce. The waitress completely forgot about this dish and needed to be reminded after everyone else it almost finished The eel nigiri sushi was very small as well. Teak is one of my go-to sushi spots in the city. Sadly, I moved to Mount Adams *right* after Teak relocated to OTR. Otherwise, I'm sure I would've been trekking up Saint Gregory Street to order some rolls to-go at least once a week. I've brought visiting friends and family to Teak OTR ... even celebrated a birthday here. This place is something special. In all my years of sushi sampling ... I've come to learn there are two types of folks that will eat raw fish. There's "sushi purists" ... those are your friends that will only order sashimi and nigiri. Then ... you've got your "roll-with-it" people. These are the friends that want it all as long as it's rolled ... tempura-fried, spicy, stuffed ... you name it, they'll eat it. There's also a third, lesser known type of sushi person ... that doesn't eat raw fish. We still invite these people out ... even if we don't agree with their taste preferences. ;) Regardless of who's coming to your sushi dinner ... Teak OTR will satisfy them all. We haven't tried a roll we didn't like ... although we have several favorites. The Honey Bee, the Spicy Duo, the Sunday Morning and the Kiwi Roll are our "must-orders." We also can't start a sushi dinner without crab rangoons ... and Teak's are always fresh out of the fryer and filled with creamy, crabby deliciousness. Their Thai food is also excellent ... and customizable based on how much heat you can handle. It's also pretty easy to get a reservation through OpenTable ... and I would definitely recommend one on Friday and Saturday nights. Plan to get there a little early so you can find parking -- especially if there's an FC Cincinnati game going on. (Local tip -- park South of Central and ride the Streetcar, it's free!)
