We love hibachi and couldn't wait to try out the new downtown Aji Ichiban, it exceeded our expectations! Everything we had was bursting with flavor, so delicious starting with the hot ginger tea and shrimp tempura appetizer, best tempura we have had in years! We ordered the Steak and Shrimp Hibachi along with the Yakisoba noodles. The Japanese Onion and Mushroom soup was so flavorful and the salad with ginger dressing was fresh and so tasty. The steak was cooked to perfection along with the shrimp and a generous portion of fried rice along with zucchini, onions and mushrooms, with such appetizing seasoning. The Yakisoba noodles were to die for, so amazing my husband and I said we could eat them every day! Their Yum Yum sauce and Brown Ginger sauce was the best we've had at any hibachi spot. We shared the leftovers tonight and somehow it all tasted even better than it did the first time. We will definitely be back and bring the rest of our family for this wonderful dining experience! read more

Hidden gem on the west side. I have drove past this place 1000's of times and finally decided to check it out. The chef/owner is a former Benihana employee (downtown location). Inexpensive food and you get a lot for your money. They offer lunch specials too! The only complaint I have is that the last time we got carry out, our food was a tad bit over cooked. Other than that, this was place is good. Closer than the other well known Hibachi spots and a lot cheaper. The owners are very nice too! Also, if you want to have the Hibachi experience, you've gotta have like 4 people minimum for them to do it. read more

Me and the family were looking for a "non-traditional" Christmas Eve Dinner. My wife has eaten lunch there before and was impressed. The service was fantastic. I personally prefer to patronize a family owned place versus the standard franchise fare that caters quantity. This place has been open for just about four months and is owned by a couple trying to achieve their "American Dream." You'll need to bypass your insticts to avoid a place that is next to a check cashing joint and liquor store. Luckilly, their entrance is on the side of the building away from the "tennants" Trust a Yelp review and give them a shot. The experience is modeled after the Benihanna experience. The food was very good quality. The soup is homemade. The waitress explained exactly how they make it fresh. Starting with making their own chicken stock. The salads were fresh and appealing. There were six in our party including one little one age 7. Each of us had the shrimp appetizer and some steak or chicken combination. The Chef paid close attention to our little one and put on a good show for him. The meal was very delicious. While the prices are comparable to any other Hibachi style restaurant, I did feel they were about $3 or $4 higher than anything else in the area. But, in return, the portions were generous. As a life long westsider, I'll tell you that the westside is hungry for some upscale family dining. Something different than the typical chain restaurant. Give these guys a shot. Love this local Hibachi restaurant! They are family run, super attentive, and make excellent food! One of the chefs here actually used to work at Benihana, and decided to start his own restaurant. This place is cleaner, less pretentious and much more reasonably priced than their competitor. Come with a big group, they'll make sure you have a great time. read more

Read the Yelp reviews and decided to check it out for lunch while passing through. 1) The place is located in a slightly rundown strip mall in what appears to be an older part of town. While the exterior and interior are old and dated, you can tell they try to keep it clean and repaired. There were very few diners in seats, but I saw a LOT of takeout traffic. 2) There is no formal host(ess), so there was a short awkward pause until the waitress/hostess came out of the kitchen. The room thermostat said 57 degrees, and that wouldn't surprise me. I bet with all the stoves on, the place gets hot... not today. *NOTE: Table - side cooking is not performed during lunch hours The Food : I ordered spicy steak and shrimp which tasted fantastic. The vegetables were jullianed instead of big chunks and everything was hot and flavorful. My one complaint about the food was the portion size. For over $12 and no show, I would expect large portions of protein. Instead I received about 3oz of steak, and about 8 baby shrimp... lucky to be 5oz of meat total. Conclusion: Based on my perception of the cold room, protein portion, and cost, I would rate this establishment at 3 stars. While the food tasted good, there is more to a meal than taste. My final decision of 4 stars is based on the fact that this is obviously a locally owned mom n pop that has many additional obsticals to overcome than your typical chainstraunts. read more

My boyfriend and I were planning a dinner date with his parents on the west side, so I went on a hunt to see if there were any new non-chain restaurants to choose from. I came across Aji Ichiban, a new hibachi joint in one of the weirdest locations you could possibly imagine. It is nestled quaintly next to a check cashing establishment and a liquor store, 50% of which is convenient because Aji Ichiban is BYOB. Wo0t. So we grabbed some booze and headed inside. I'm kind of torn on this review (Yelp reviews weigh ever so heavily on me). The food and the service were good, but I think I may be one of the only people in the world that doesn't understand the concept of "dinner and a show" with the show being performance-cooking. The novelty just doesn't really affect me. But, I'm not going to take a star off because I willingly went to Aji knowing this. I think this is a good addition to the west side and the fact that is it BYOB is pretty nice. Keep in mind that the BYOB aspect as well as the "show" aspect will make this dinner a little pricier. read more

The food is delicious up to par with any of the other local hibachi style Japanese steakhouses. While everything was very tasty, I think the dinner price point is a bit high for the area. The restaurant is in the same strip as a check cashing place and a liquor store (that should have been a hint to the owner...). This place is great! If you don't want to travel all the way to Tri-County to enjoy Bennihana's food you can get the same quality food and service here at Aji Ichiban. The only thing that's different besides it's size is the shrimp sauce :( other than that this place was great. I visited last Friday for the first time and loved it. The owner is so friendly and the service was great. The food was also great! I love that this is on my side of town (Westwood). If you haven't tried it yet hurry up and try it!! read more

HORRIBLE customer service. When I arrived at 2:50 pm the place was completely empty. I was greeted by a very confused women, she ask if we wanted to eat inside as if that was out of the ordinary. The ratings for this location are over are too high! More attractive interior with some theme of home country would help. The young man serving at the grill was very shy. Salad dressing was very good, service was nice, lemonade fine but on the whole the food was over cooked. The onions needed to be cut since you have no knife. I am writing this review as a public service. I don't know who wrote most of the other reviews, but they don't remotely sound like the place where my friends and I ended up. Based on what we read, we jumped in an Uber and made the trip from our downtown hotel. The area is sketchy and the parking lot was deserted. It was 6:30 p.m. There were no other sit down customers while we were there, but there were two men that came in and made some kind of purchase up at the bar area. It took 15 minutes to get our simple drink order, despite the fact that they clearly weren't busy. The server had some language difficulties, as one of our group asked for a vodka and soda and our server didn't understand what that was and stated that they didn't have that. (The have fountain drinks, so they must have soda water.) Instead, my friend got flat tonic water. The food was ok, but not what we were all expecting. The onion soup had a Lipton taste to it, salad was fine, the hibachi food was over cooked. When we asked the chef if he was the owner, he told us that the woman that served us drinks was actually the owner. She was sitting off to the side with her feet up. We were never offered dessert or drink refills and the doors were locked immediately after we walked out at 8:00. My friends and I felt that even though we never write reviews, this one needed to be written. If you are looking for a hibachi grill spot, pass this one by. read more

Disappointed! I was looking forward to going here based on my experiences with similar places. But this place was different. The service was not good: much went wrong. Some was corrected, but most was just wrong...and she was rude. They never brought our shrimp appetizer. The food was over-salted....a lot over-salted! The fish, chicken, meat and veggies were also over-cooked....way over-cooked. Over-priced as well....not worth it by a ling shot. I do not recommend going here. read more

I was really let down. I love hibachi and was excited to try one so close. We got take out as there was only one person working in the entire restaurant cooking and taking orders from people coming in and on the phone. We got the filet and chicken. It didn't have much flavor and very few vegetables. The portions were about average. It is supposed to come with a salad and soup, but there was no soup in the bag when we got home. Even with these complaints, if it was a cheap hole in the wall place it wouldn't be horrible. However the prices are more than high end hibachi restaurants with much better quality food. For the same price it's worth the drive to Northgate for Kabuto. For much cheaper and higher quality hibachi take out there is a new place in Clifton called Ninja Express. You can order online and pick exactly the meat and vegetables you want. It's cooked fresh to order with huge portions around $10. read more

This place looks awful.. But wow is the food good! Dinner prices are high like Benihana or sukura.. But well worth it! If you want cheaper come for lunch. My kids even loved it..
