Stopped into Kumo Asian and ordered the shrimp hibachi, and overall, it was a solid meal. Nothing particularly memorable or crave-worthy, but it definitely got the job done. The flavors were okay and satisfying enough for a casual hibachi craving. The ginger salad threw me off a bit--not so much the taste, but the presentation. The lettuce pieces were pretty large, and I definitely would've preferred it more chopped for easier bites. I also tried the sweet tea, which honestly didn't taste much like sweet tea at all. It leaned more toward a green tea flavor, but it wasn't terrible once I added some lemon. On the upside, the crab rangoons were solid--crispy, warm, and enjoyable. Overall, Kumo Asian delivers a decent meal with a few quirks. Not amazing, not terrible--just okay. Upon arrival we were greeted as regulars and quickly sat. The restaurant was something else in the past, like many, but I couldn't really tell. Dark, dingy, and not very inviting, other than the people. I had a three roll sushi combo with a salad. The sushi presentation was beyond expectations. A wooden bridge with blue lights and a rubber plant. Quaint is the word that comes to mind. The salad was just a bowl of iceberg lettuce and dressing. No onions or tomatoes just lettuce. I ordered spicy tuna, spicy salmon, and tune with cucumber. To be honest, I couldn't distinguish between them. All three were super bland. My wife's combo Pad Thai was brown, as Pad Thai can be, I didn't have any, it didn't look appealing. But maybe it was just not my day. We started with steamed shrimp shumai and gyoza. Both were cold in the middle and basically flavorless. My son had red snapper, it looked decent and his wife had sesame chicken, I think. It too was brown. Just brown. Overall, the food was plentiful but mediocre. The prices were not high, but likely too high for what we got. Normally, this would be a three star review. We will definitely be back! This place is definitely an experience. I am not sure what the magical combination of date and time was arranged but there was an all out party when we arrived. Free appetizers, celebratory sake bombs, and cake for everyone. On top of that our meal included soup and salad. My friend and I split a few appetizers, four sushi rolls, a bottle of sake AND had hibachi dinner and our total bill was less than $100! On top of that everything was fantastic. The owner was walking around and was so personable. The staff was pretty young but they were all so nice. The only negatives I can think of were that we were sitting right by the speaker so it was a little loud and that the bathroom was cold. I can't wait to go back! We have wanted to try this place since we moved here over a year ago. We didn't have high hopes, but kept our fingers crossed. It is so close, if it was good we would quickly become regulars. It wasn't. We won't. The gyoza was tasty for sure. Nicely grilled, but still soft and delicious. The sauce was a great compliment. The miso soup was not good. Mark did not care for his Pad Thai. He said the noodles were overcooked, The sauce was thick and goopy. Generally, it didn't taste fresh. He didn't finish it and we left the leftovers on the table. His dish also included what looked like a strand of steel wool from a scrubby. The sashimi was not horrible, but it was not good. The fish was cold, like it was precut and stored in a very cold refrigerator. The pieces were large, but mostly flavorless. When I eat perfect, melt-in-my-mouth sashimi, I make yummy noises. We saw that one of our local gems, Kumo in Delhi, was having a great customer appreciation celebration--which coincided with my husband's birthday. Obviously fate, so that is where we took the family tonight. It was really amazing! The staff noticed us carrying in a few gifts so they quickly raised our celebration level. The staff sang to him, took pictures for us, brought him a lovely plate of complimentary sushi and then a complimentary dessert plate. WOW!!! We had young grandchildren with us and they were served well by everyone there. Food was delicious and the potions are generous. We will return often! My 6 yr old grandson declared it his new favorite restaurant--and this from a chicken nugget addict! Keep it in mind when you get hungry, you won't regret it! read more

I am still fairly new to the sushi game so bear with me. I donate blood at CSL plasma which is near by. Afterwards, if I have time I like to try the local cuisine in the area. Please forgive me I had corn fields danm near outside my bedroom window. Let me start with the setting. It could be ambiance, it's not quite a Jackie Chan movie but most people don't need that. You can seat yourself which is good for me because I have ADHD and at this time in my life I am always on the go. I usually get a coke or diet coke. Then start my usual restaurant routine which is just going down the menu 1 by 1 and conquering my plate. I never have anything left over. I don't think it's a problem. The dragon roll so far is my favorite I have no idea what sauce is on it, but it's awesome. They bring out the battle ship always to remind me I am constantly at war. After your meal sometimes you get to play a game to see if you win more food or alcohol. I'v only had the AF sake at the moment but I really enjoy it. As far as appetizer the crab Rangoon is one of the best in the tri- county area. It's soft and chewy. Service is usually served with a smile and averages about 20 minutes per wait. This restaurant looks pretty, but the food is questionable. I downloaded Yelp just to make this review. I'm on a date with my boyfriend, and I ordered the shrimp tempura roll. When I say it was fried rock hard and still had the tails in, I'm not joking. It felt like biting into a rock and chewing sand. My boyfriend got the teriyaki chicken, and it was so chewy. It felt like you were biting straight veins. On top of that, they have angelfish living in a tank at the front of the restaurant that having such poor living conditions. How have I not reviewed this place yet? It's certifiably the coolest place to eat near me! When they say Asian fusion, they mean it- it's not just Japanese or Chinese, though I'm more familiar with the more Japanese inspired side of the menu. The sushi is good and not overpriced for sushi. There's a bento box option for lunch, and I am addicted to the veggie tempura appetizer. The food can take a while in the way that things do when maybe a place was too ambitious in planning their menu, but I've always enjoyed it. I live in fear of it closing. read more

I have fond memories of eating in this building as a child ... and my experience at Kumo had me wishing it was still a Pizza Hut! In a word Kumo is: underwhelming. I tried four of the specialty sushi rolls with a friend, and something was just off about each one. The fish was lower quality, the mango was on the dry side, the spicy tuna was bland, the peanut toppings were overwhelming and overall the quality was just not there. They advertise 50% off sushi, but the speciality rolls are still about $7-9 each, which makes them feel like a bad value. I also ordered a disappointing ginger salad; it was anemic and the dressing had a mysterious flavor that was closer to thousand island than ginger. I hate to give so many poor remarks, but the ambiance leaves a lot to be desired as well. The dining room looks a bit run down, the floors are uneven and the environment was not peaceful: some of the employees' kids were left to run amok: screaming and carrying on throughout the entire meal. The final, albeit most strange event of the evening you almost have to see to believe (pictures included). They serve you your meal with an odd ornamental trinket cemented to the plate with wasabi. I got a ceramic pagoda with a bunch of cracks and missing pieces: it was truly weird and sadly ruined any of the presentation value that the sushi could have had on its own. I came to enjoy dinner with myself and a few waiters were comstantly asking, "It's just you? You're alone?" Uh yes, sometimes people just don't feel the need to have company. A simple salad took a while to make. Plating was messy and it was also grimy on the underside. Also would be nice to not have a sticky table. In the end, looks should not judge the food. So this isnt the typical hibachi where they cook at a table in front of you but you can order hibachi to your table. I love hibachi so we tried it! They really specialize in sushi. You should definitely order the sushi, it looked amazing and I regret choosing hibachi over sushi here. The hibachi comes with soup or salad but I couldnt decide so I ordered both. The salad was typical hibachi salad with the amazing ginger dressing. The soup is the clear mushroom soup. I wasnt a huge fan and regret paying extra for it. I was just so cold I wanted hot soup.the crab rangoon was epic though!! Definitely get that. It's a great deal too. 6 pieces for like $4. The hibachi food was good. I was a little nervous about this place, because their location has had a slew of owners & cuisines over the years, and they've all failed. But I was SO impressed with Kumo Asian Fusion and am happy to report I will definitely be going back. Arrived with my family on a Saturday night around 6pm - no wait, but the place was bustling! Our waiter was very sweet - he brought us the drink menu & the dinner menus. There are so many options here, it was overwhelming. For appetizers, my sister got the crab rangoon - very standard, served with plain mayonnaise; not my preference. I got the vegetable tempura, which was delicious. For our entrees, my sister got the beef negamaki bento box - this was the best deal ever! 6 pieces of beef wrapped around greens, tempura, shumai, white rice and 6 california roll pieces. I had the hibachi with chicken & shrimp, also excellent. For dessert, we got both the fried cheesecake & the fried ice cream. I loved their green tea ice cream! I can't recommend this restaurant. We got a carry out order and the food was very bland.

Food is about 3/5 stars, service is 0/5. Each time I have visited this place, I have left thinking I'll never return. But again, their sushi is very good and I can't resist. However, tables are sticky, chopsticks are reused (specifically placed through a dish washer), dust on the soy sauce bottles and table booths are falling apart. If you feel like waiting 15mins+ for a drink, 10mins+ for a menu and at least 40mins+ for your food, this is your place. Weirdly enough, I have family and friends who seem to have the complete opposite experience I have had. Which makes me think they remember their 'personal favorite' customers and give them special treatment or what the deal is. I just know I will NOT be back, which is a shame because the food is actually decent. read more

I have visited Kumo twice, and I like it. I have been trying to find quality Japanese restaurants in Cincinnati that do not do half-price sushi. I am surprised that the west side of town, especially in the Delhi neighborhood, has such a high quality Japanese restaurant. The first time I visited Kumo, I ordered the sashimi dinner. I was impressed by the fresh sashimi, nigiri, and the nice presentation. I can tell they tried very hard preparing and presenting the food they serve. The second time I was there, I ordered sashimi bento box. Again, I was impressed by the quality of food. The sashimi in my bento box was fresh. And shrimp and vegetable tempura were delicious. Other two side dishes in my bento box were yummy too! It was a nice and satisfying meal for sure. In terms of service, the restaurant staff were friendly as well. We had to waited a little bit for our bento boxes. But our server stopped by our table letting us know that our dinner was coming, which for me, was a nice gesture. One thing I am not sure about this restaurant (not their fault at all) is its location. The neighborhood where this restaurant is located is kinda drab and bleak. I mainly visit this restaurant for its quality food and good service. Otherwise, I would not come to this neighborhood. Another thing I think this restaurant can probably improve is its decor. I can tell this restaurant is relatively new, and the old decor from the previous business still remains. Since it is a Japanese and Asian fusion restaurant, I would recommend that they "dress up" the dining area a little more. Hopefully, this restaurant will maintain its quality. Very disappointed in the wait staff and the food was ruined by their incompetence. Dishes came out at all different times and only 1 appetizer and one main dish (out of 2 apps and 5 main dishes) was appropriately hot/cold (for sushi). 2 orders of miso soup came out Luke warm- one had a lot of sea weed and very few pieces of tofu and the other had the reverse. It was very hit and miss in terms of consitency. My bento box order had great tempura but my chicken teriyaki was overcooked and dry. My daughters ordered soba noodles with shrimp and pad Thai with chicken- the proteins were reversed- soba with chicken and pad Thai with shrimp. Good thing we weren't dealing with shell fish allergies. My daughter has a short pixie cut and was frequently called "he/him" despite earrings, breasts, and one correction. Food should be served to the entire party at once. Or there should at least be a reason food is coming out at different times like- "I wanted to serve this meal hot and fresh." That was not the case- food was cold, overcooked, inconsistent, and underwhelming. I walked in and almost walked right back out. It was a Wednesday night around 6pm and only 1 table was occupied. I thought to myself, "Oh no. Another wannabe-sushi place". BUT WAIT - I decided to stay and it was the best decision i made that day! The food quality, presentation, and freshness was AMAZING!
