WOW! I was a little thrown off by some recent bad reviews but we decided to try it anyway and we are so glad we did. The vibes & food were exactly what we needed. It was the perfect flow of busy for a Friday night - no wait, open tables, but a constantly moving crowd of people. Families were coming in, a bachelorette party, parties of two.. and they served everyone with ease! The servers were attentive and friendly, we did notice one grumpier server but it happens. Went to Covington last night to check out Wabi Sabi. It has a chill vibe and the sushi is probably what you're expecting. Nothing fancy and half off all rolls when you dine in. My shrimp tempura in my roll was not crispy at all and I missed the crunch. The spicy mayo tasted slightly off and I'm not sure why. The wasabi was not spicy what so ever. Not sure what happened there but could eat it straight and tasted nothing. Out of all their locations this one is probably my least favorite. read more

They didn't taste super fresh or flavorful. The seafood ramen wasn't that great either. The noodles themselves tasted grainy and undercooked. The service was mid. Overall, one of the better dining experiences I've had in a long time. I don't usually leave reviews, but I had to give this place some serious props. It hit the spot! We sat at end of the bar so we had a view of the entire restaurant. Love the decor, the lights.... It was crowded but we got seated right away. The vibe is great... I wished we had been there when there was live music. We were clearly the oldest two people in the place. But that's fine with us! Epic service- 5 different people checked on us at different points during our meal. And they were busy. I was sitting near the take out station and they were prompt and kind to every person walking in. And everyone seemed genuinely kind and friendly. My husband left his card at the restaurant (probably because of the cocktails), and they held it until the next day and was kind when he returned. Try the volcano roll! It's a really unique- a bit more "heavy" for sushi- but yummy! I had the poke bowl and it was very fresh, tuna was fresh ... I'm kinda a stickler about tuna. I had a cocktail- it was strong, which, of course, is a win. I wish I had tried the cucumber cocktail when I was there. I heard it was amazing from the people we met at the bar. She always gets the rainbow roll and the California roll. She also loves the flying fish roe and the octopus nigiri. As for me, I'm in love with their spring rolls. The spring rolls are the perfect level of crunch and the sauce is to die for. The gyoza, pork fried dumplings, are amazing too. This most recent time, I went with family per usual but when we walked in the entire place was decorated for Valentine's Day. It just gave a really really good feeling, the time they took to decorate was really cool. I also really enjoyed the way they had seating set up inside. The food never disappoints, especially for the price. Service was good, didn't have to wait at all to be seated nor to get our food. First of all, I have found that it is easier to park in the parking garage literally adjacent to this place one block east. It's $1 an hour to park and it is so much easier than trying to find parking on Madison or side streets. We sat outside tonight out back and the weather was great. Service was also great and we ordered our usual appetizers of gyoza and crab rangoon and then followed with a ton of sushi! I love getting the drunken taco one every time. Also I very much enjoyed their Philly roll and another role that sort of had like a pureed version of tuna but I'm not sure entirely which one it was. I was pleasantly surprised at how generous the ginger salad portion was, even for the price. Everything was reasonably priced. The food was light, refreshing, and delicious, a perfect accompaniment to a hot day. The service was friendly and prompt. There is indoor seating, as well as a back patio with both covered and uncovered sections. It is a great place to go and catch up with a friend over a meal. Update 12/2/23: Wabi Sabi used to be our favorite place to go. We used to come weekly almost after our initial review below. Recently, the service is the worst and the food quality is going down. The hot food constantly comes out cold or lukewarm AT BEST. The servers never come and assist. They just sit at the front and don't help by letting the food come out cold. I want to keep coming because I did love the food and it was affordable but it's not longer becoming worth it when it's cold food and poor service. For example, they spilled half of my miso soup. Did not give me more soup just gave me the spilled soup that was cold. Even when it's not busy, it will take 1.5 hrs minimum. Take your business elsewhere. This place is no longer worth it and it hurts to say that because we were avid supporters for so long. But we'll be looking for a new sushi place. Old review: We tried Wabi Sabi for the first time after hearing so many good things and we enjoyed it. As of now, it is our new favorite on the kentucky side of the riverIt's tight little space but we were quickly seated. We started with an order of gyoza and it was good but a little over cooked. I ordered the chicken katsu which was delicious. However, it was mildly over priced given that they do not include a soup and salad unlike most Japanese restaurants. I didn't think to ask because it is usually pretty standard to get a ginger salad and miso soup. So next time I know to order separately. My fiancé ordered three rolls: spicy California, dancing shrimp, and Air Force. He really enjoyed all three and ate every last bite. I started off with my favorite, miso soup - it was absolutely delicious, and a ginger salad - it had the perfect amount of dressing on it! That was my second time at Wabi Sabi and I'll definitely go back when I'm in town! The service is great - very attentive. From the moment you walk in the door - they great you. After the fact the other customers received regular menu. Was not happy that I had to order from my phone and was never told what they offered for non alcoholic beverages we just had the water that was given to us. To start off, I ordered the sour and spicy soup and spring rolls. The spring roll was good and the dipping sauce it came with was good. The soup was okay, I think if it had something crunchy like bamboo or bean sprouts it would have made it better similar to Hot and Sour soup not like egg drop soup with shrimp and a sour soup base. I had the sushi, futo maki, wasabi sabi roll and spider roll excluding the California roll. Not the best that I've had but it was within walking distance and was doable.
