Jungsik has never been better. Always an outstanding restaurant, it is now one of the best restaurants in the world. The quality, creativity and level of service are as good as any restaurant in NY. It is a joy to be able to eat at Jungsik.

My 3rd 3-star restaurant experience after 11 Madison and Per Se. Overall, the experience was good although I'm still not sure if I can distinguish what separates a 2 star from a 3 star. The reservation was a real hassle to get as well because they ended up renovating but it went on longer than they were communicating at first. Standouts for me were: - Octopus: somehow the outside is so crispy while the inside is tender. The best textured octopus I've ever had - Mandoo: the piece of meat on top really melted in your mouth - dol dessert: the black bean in the statue was almost like chocolate, probably the best black bean paste I've ever had I didn't really like the strawberry dessert and the barley rice with the galbi dish felt off to me. I had the seoul mule which was a refreshing drink and the onijarita which is stronger and smoker because of the mezcal. I'd get the mule again but not the latter. They also gave us a printout of the menu upon request.

2nd 3 star Michelin meal that I've tried. This one was interesting, but incredible. First off, they open exactly at 5 pm. We had a reservation at 5, but got there around 4:45 pm. The doors were locked, curtains were shut, and we thought, "Are we at the right place?" I wish they allowed us to wait inside instead of making us stand awkwardly around the street. Anyways, the inside was pretty small, just a few tables and a bar area. The table we were sitting at was right by a tall windows where we got some natural light. The first banchan dish was probably the best main dish of the night. Six mini bites of strong, unique flavors and textures that I absolutely loved. Each of them had their own signature taste that I have never put inside my mouth before. Moving along, the next dish was also one of my favorites: it was fish with caviar and a very light and flavorful sauce. I loved it. The next two dishes were okay. The fried octopus was honestly my least favorite. The flavors were too strong and made me borderline nauseous that I could only eat half of it before giving it to my brother to finish. That usually never happens, so I'm not sure why or what they did to prepare that octopus to make me feel so revolted. That's probably just a me thing though, since I hear so much rave about the octopus. The salmon was good and the caviar that came along with it was delish. The most fun dish was the hand roll, where we got a little pair of tweezers to put the fish onto the roll with each subsequent bite. Definitely something to remember. The beef was fine, and the first dessert was decent. But oh my god the Jeju statue dessert was AMAZING!! First of all, it was plated so stunningly and the detail or the statue, rocks, ice cream, and even choice of plate was immaculate. It was the cutest thing and so so beautiful. We got an add-on order of the carrot dessert which was expensive but so unique. We got to "pick" the carrots from this dirt-filled container, and it was served with some ice cream. It had cream cheese filling and had a great crunchy exterior. The carrot looked insanely realistic, and you could really see how much effort they put into drawing the dirt and lines on the carrots. Hospitality was amazing, 10/10. Our main server was so nice and delightful to talk to. Great experience, pretty good food, but a lot of unique flavors.

4/10. Crunchy quinoa was a nice touch. I've had better uni at our local sushi joint

What was supposed to be a special anniversary dinner turned into one of the most disappointing fine-dining experiences I've had in New York--full stop. Besides the banchan ;The food was boring, bland, and painfully uninspired from the very first course, and somehow managed to get worse as the night dragged on. Dishes arrived cold when they absolutely should have been hot, with zero attention to detail and no discernible flavor. For a Michelin-starred tasting menu, the portions were laughable. We left genuinely hungry. That alone says everything. Service was sloppy and amateurish, completely lacking the precision, warmth, or professionalism expected at this level. Adding insult to injury, the dining room was freezing--colder than a homeless shelter--making an already miserable experience even more uncomfortable. It was so cold they even offered shawls - tacky and gross. For context, I dine regularly at Michelin-starred restaurants across NYC and have visited almost every Korean Michelin-starred restaurant in the city. Without question, this was the worst of them all. Every one-star restaurant I've been to has delivered a far superior experience. After last night, I'm genuinely shocked Jungsik still holds three stars--there was absolutely nothing memorable, creative, or exceptional about this meal. I've since spoken with friends who own Michelin-starred restaurants themselves, and even they were stunned by how far off the mark this experience was for a restaurant of this supposed caliber. What should have been a meaningful anniversary celebration turned into something we couldn't wait to be over. A complete failure on every level.

Beverages were fun but all pricey. Food wise, I was impressed by the Banchan and the mandu. There were three below expectation dishes: Octopus, sea urchin bibimbap, and yellowtail kimbop were all too unpleasantly crispy, such that the nice ingredients were deprived of their original flavors. The sea urchin was even a bit funky. Unfortunately, the rest of the menu was unmemorable. Service was ok but not outstanding. I find the restaurant lacking sophistication in comparison to other three stars. I enjoyed Jua and Joo Ok a lot more.

This is a review from July 2025. The menu doesn't change too often. My favorite Korean fine dining restaurant in NYC. Definitely earned the 3 stars. If you are expecting strong korean flavors, you will be disappointed. It is best to consider it as french korean fusion. All the proteins are perfectly cooked. The octopus is the best octopus in NYC. It was crispy on the outside, very tender on the inside and accompanied with a gochujang sauce. The desserts are creative and tasty. Service was excellent and attentive. The carrot is a must for add ons.

So, we walk in all excited for our Michelin-level night out, and the host smiles and says, "We have your reservation... at the bar." Not exactly the fairytale start I imagined. For a brief moment, I considered just eating a pretzel in the car and calling it a night. Luckily, they fixed it fast, and from that point on, it was pure redemption. The service? Impeccable. The food? Somewhere between art and sorcery. The amuse-bouche looked like something you'd see in a modern art museum, except this one you actually want to eat. The caviar course tasted like money and good decisions. The octopus was so tender I felt slightly guilty for ever calling seafood "rubbery." Every course came out like clockwork, and by dessert, I had completely forgiven them for the reservation mix-up. This is one of those meals that ruins other restaurants for you. Five stars.

Went for an exclusive event and got to try both Korea and NYC recipes! Such a unique twist on Korean food to break into the fine dining era. Extremely impressed with the wine selection they picked with P2 Dom ranging to Opus and fine dessert wines. Really enjoyed the banchan, garden, and meats. The garden ending was so unique that you didn't know what you would eat. One threw me off since it was an actual carrot. Luxury dining was here and great service by the staff. Thanks to Christian. Note that the windows area is extremely cold so try to avoid that given no insulation.

My son and I had to be in New York for an event but as I was also celebrating my birthday, we decided to book reservations at Jungsik since it was the 1st Korean restaurant to earn 3 Michelin stars. I've been to Michelin Star restaurants before but my experience at Jungsik was definitely one for the record books. Upon entering, we were greeted with professionalism and an offer to relieve us of baggage that I held in my hand. We were then escorted to our table. The ambience in this restaurant was astonishing. It was warm and inviting but also elegant and sophisticated. I could see and feel the luxury experience. Each server that approached our table did so with the utmost precision and carefully placed and prepared our dishes accordingly. They even took the time to explain what everything was and clarified how best to eat it. I had specific dietary restrictions that I informed the restaurant about a week in advance. They took the necessary steps to ensure that they created special dishes for me on their signature menu. Their service was on point! I was absolutely impressed by every single dish that was served. They first provided a special drink that was refreshing, very flavorful, appetite enhancing, and a palate cleanser for the beginning of our experience. There were a total of 15 diverse dishes. We started with Banchan, 6 small dishes, and finished off with 9 dishes from their signature menu. I truly enjoyed every single item served; however, my favorites were the Soy Bean Soup with Truffle Pearls, Striped Jack, Octopus, Arctic Char, and Yellowtail Kimbap. All dishes were prepared and cooked to perfection. The presentation and display of everything were top notch. The icing on the cake for me was when they presented one of the dishes with Happy Birthday text on the plate and a candle to top it off. The experience alone is worth a second visit, but the quality, texture, consistency, flavor, and quantity of dishes served along with the servers professionalism and the elegance of the evening warrants future visits. My birthday celebration at this restaurant will forever be remembered. Thank you to the staff and chefs at Jungsik for an exceptional visit!

I come to Jungsik almost every year for last 10 years and I was never disappointed. The restaurant is now with Michelin three stars, and the service and dedication is at another level. Every dish is done with desire for perfection, in terms of balance on crispiness, saltiness, and sweetness. And the effort of using traditional Korean ingredients and cultures is impressive.

    Sarah Y.

Delicious meal! Every course was very carefully presented and was very detailed. The staff was very attentive as well, makes sense why Jungsik is so highly rated! The ambiance is also very calm and quiet, which is perfect for a dinner date!

4.5 stars. The food was very delicious. And the service was excellent. It was a very upscale restaurant for sure. However, I felt that the experience was a bit underwhelming to be honest. For over $400 per person, the restaurant is missing the Wow factor. Also I was still a little bit hungry afterwards.

    Stacy T.

The service aims to be perfect, but it was a little off for me personally. A lot of the staff seemed to be trained to do the "right thing," but lack the experience to execute well. When we sat down, we were given no time to look over the drinks or the menu. They immediately wanted to start the tasting. Typically they should give a couple of minutes for us to look at drinks and settle. The food was all artfully presented and carefully placed. All of the portions were quite small, but for some reason I was very full by the end of the meal. Everything was fresh, but I think the best items were the appetizers in the beginning of the meal (especially the salmon roe) and the octopus. I rarely find well executed and tender octopus, so that was a pleasant surprise. It was a great meal for a special occassion.

Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. It is well worth the price and makes for a fun, interactive dining experience with your family and friends. There is also various banchan offered and this time, they were beyond kind enough to offer refills. The last time we were here, we ordered just as much food and they stated they normally did not offer refills, which I thought was very odd. We got the large beef combination platter which comes with ribeye, thin skirt, brisket, marinated kalbi, and marinated chuck flap. Most people stuck with water, while a couple got ginger ale. I ordered the soju flight but I ended up not liking it so my cousins shared it. The meal comes with different veggies as well as your choice of soup. We got the spicy tofu and split it 6 ways. The spice lived up to its name, so I didn't eat very much. The best part was meat. Despite there being 6 of us, there was plenty to go around. I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. It didn't help that none of our dishes were cleared once we finished them and that no rice is included. Aside from that, both the food and service were great.

They have a variety of the standard fare Korean options at reasonable prices. We tried the ddukbokki and bulgolgi dupbap which were both good. The portion sizes were on the bigger size and the ddukbokki were giant. I do wish the ddukbokki was a little less watery but overall tasted fine. The bulgolgi was pretty standard for what I'd expect. Overall a solid option in the area if you don't want to wait for a long queue outside of the other popular spots.

Seafood Pancake: Great pick. Crispy on the outside and packed with seafood inside. Beef Belly & Mala Cream Noodle Soup: Loved this one. Udon with tender beef and baby octopus... so good!!! Spicy Braised Pork Rib Stew: Rich, comforting, and full of flavor. The highlight for me was the raw marinated crab. I spotted it on the wall menu and immediately had to order it. It's rare to find in the city! And honestly, this was way better than BCD's. So flavorful. Only complaint... the banchan portions are small and not a lot of variety. Other than that, I really enjoyed my meal and I'd definitely recommend this spot.

Manhattan, NY (Koreatown) - I love BCD and frequent the one in Fort Lee pretty regularly, but for…read moreyears have assiduously avoided this NYC location as it's always a madhouse every time I've come here for dinner with friends or co-workers, and because there are so many other great Korean options on this strip. But there's no denying that BCD has upped their soondubu game considerably in the last decade+ with a thicker, more deeply flavored broth, and now easily rivals my longtime favorite and gold standard, the OG So Kong Dong in Fort Lee. Then I stumbled into a hack that changed my view: lunch! I ducked in for a late lunch on a whim while walking by one day, and this turned out to be a much chiller hour, unhurried and no reservation needed. I was promptly seated, my order taken, and the banchan swiftly laid out. The banchan spread is solid across the board (the little fried fish does nothing for me, but seems to be a highlight for everyone else). I especially love the kimchi, near-perfect IMO, and the pickled cucumber. There's a modest lunch discount, which is a nice bonus for someone who likes to order aggressively. I usually get an oyster, seafood, or assorted soondubu (with a raw egg cracked in), danger spicy of course! Or go the C1 combo route with a galbi (marinated bbq beef short ribs) + smaller soondubu. It's an enormous amount of food, so I take most of the galbi home and feel no shame about it. The galbi, by the way, has also gotten noticeably better over the years - meatier, tender, and the flavor is on point. I've also enjoyed their bibimbap, bulgogi, jap chae, and seafood pancake. Finally, let's talk heat - this chili-head loooves fire! And BCD's danger level is one of the rare instances where the spice level actually meets my punishing tolerance for heat, not some pretense at "American spicy.," despite this being a chain. Their danger level actually means business and brings tears to my eyes, literally. It's still not my favorite place ambience wise, and dinner remains a contact sport I've mostly opted out of, as gone are the days that I can tolerate a culinary mosh pit, and any wait longer than 10 minutes (and only for a superlative place) will trigger an automatic ejection of my presence. But for lunch? Unexpectedly great. 4 stars for dinner, 5 for lunch.

I went with my sister and my daughter. We ordered the beef combo for 2 and a seafood pancake. The portion was just right. The quality of the beef was pretty good and was cooked to perfection (I requested for medium-rare). My sister had her portion cooked to well done since she is currently pregnant and didnt want to risk having any problems (not everything ended up being well done though). I personally prefer the pancake from elsewhere but it was not bad. My picky daughter really liked it. The combo came with a steam egg and boy was that good. Our meal ended with a yummy ice cream for each of us. This meal however made a pretty big dent in my wallet. It was my fault for not checking the menu before heading in. I didnt want to walk any further with my toddler and my pregnant sister since it started raining outside.

Soup and Banchan both receive high marks for how good they taste. Also ordered a separate beef short rib lunch special, the rib was cooked to perfection and the sauce applied was very flavorful.
