I absolutely loved the banchan and the soup, which was light yet flavorful! The mackerel was perfectly cooked, with a lightly crispy exterior and tender, flaky meat. It had no fishy taste at all and wasn't overly greasy, making it a perfect lunch option. The seafood tofu soup was definitely on the spicier side, but the broth was SOOO good! The Better Half and I secured a highly sought-after lunch reservation here, but it turn out to be one of the worst meals in NYC. We were first in line waiting for them to open their doors. I think this might have been a huge mistake. You will see why I say this later in the review. The workers were pretty nice and maybe a little too attentive as we felt a little rushed. Constantly checking on us while we were trying to eat, right down to giving us the check. Hey I get it, people are waiting to come in and you want to grab all the customers you can get. However you shouldn't let your customer's feel like you are trying to get them out the door. The better half ordered the Perilla Chicken Porridge. I saw her tase it, one bite at a time and all of a sudden I see her putting a couple of spoonful of the soup that came with the meal into her porridge. I thought that was strange and asked her why did she do that? She said both the chicken and the porridge was really dry as well as lacking flavor. I tried it and I had to agree, so much so that I asked if they could bring me some sesame oil. I ordered the LA Galbi and was really excited to eat it. Unfortunately, it was served lukewarm, dry, and lacked the flavor you expect from Korean BBQ. To me the best thing was the different types of banchan (side dishes) as it had a modern flare and not so much the traditional ones you have at a authentic Korean restaurant. A colleague invited me to meet here for lunch . I wasn't sure I was going to like any of the menu items as, at first glance, it seemed very pork heavy, and I'm not a pork eater. We ordered the han dumplings , and the corn and cream croquettes ....delicious . I had the LA Galbi BBQ which are fire grilled ribs. It came with rice , soup (more like broth), eggplant and mushrooms, bokchoy, kimchi, mini side salad, tofu (all of which are served in separate mini dishes) as well as grapes which the server calls desert . I took it as more of a sweet palette cleanser . I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! I ate it all. The flavor of the beef was astounding. Opening in 2015 in the heart of Koreatown in Midtown Manhattan, the Korean restaurant, Her Name is Han, was a great place for my wife and me to come for lunch during our 2nd day in NYC. They have great reviews and it is definitely warranted. The restaurant has a solid website, giving accurate information about the hours and menu. It indicated that weekday lunch time would be a good time to try their value-based lunch menu, letting us sample some of their dishes. We walked over from our hotel just before their opening time of noon, and got in line just as they opened. It was a decent size queue, but the dining space inside was large, and everyone in line was able to be seated (including us). Our main server was Jiwoong, and she was lovely throughout. A carafe of tap water was provided with two glasses, so we could refill our own water (I love this about Korean restaurants...wish other restaurants did something similar). Multiple servers interacted with us throughout, and the beautifully prepared food was delivered exactly on time, with the proper temperature. We ended up ordering 4 things. The non-ipa beer on tap was Ball Lightning Pilsner ($9 for 12 oz) and it was OK. Fried Cod Appetizer ($15) - coming out first, the five chunks of lightly deep fried cod was OK, enhanced by the tartar like sauce. There are four choices from the Lunch Premium Bapsang (a set meal with rice, Japanese equivalent is Teishoku), and we chose two of them. I had the Grilled Atka Mackerel ($19), and my wife had the Spicy Pork BBQ ($21). Both came with white rice, a light bean sprout soup (decent), kimchi (not my favorite), a simple green leaf salad, 3 banchans (loved the fish cakes), some grapes, and a light custard based dessert (which was good). I liked my mackerel, well prepared and fried. The pork was indeed spicy with good flavor. Reading about the restaurant later, learnt that the name came to the founder, meaning two things. 'Han' represents a uniquely Korean emotion of mixed grief, sadness, and hidden resentment...we know that we shouldn't feel this way, but we feel a bit better that other Koreans feel it too. It is also the last name of the founder's mother (most Koreans keep their last name after marriage), so the name is an homage (that's what I read on their facebook page) to her. The restaurant is part of the Resy network, and thus using our AMEX provided a $20 statement credit (once a month...this is my favorite sort of credit since the credit is entirely funded by AMEX, and the restaurant gets their full charged amount). Payment was handled at the table, and we were out in under an hour. As we were leaving, we noticed that there now was a queue to get in, so we came at the right time. I don't usually leave negative reviews but unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this place at all. The food was just okay and there weren't many options on the dinner menu. My coworker and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while so we decided to give it a chance, but nothing we ordered was particularly memorable. The bigger issue was the service. My friend and I came on a Wednesday after work. We arrived at 5:00 pm ordered within about 10 minutes, and received our food fairly quickly. While we were still eating, the waitress came by several times to check on us. At around 6:00, she asked my friend if she was still working on her food and whether she could clear her plate. My friend had just finished, so she said yes. The waitress then asked if I wanted her to pack up my chicken even though I was clearly still eating and still had my chopsticks in my hand. I was so caught off guard that I paused for a moment before agreeing to have it packed. She then brought us the dessert menu. At 6:02, she came back and asked if we needed more time. We said yes, but she returned again shortly afterward. I finally asked if there was a dining time limit, and she quickly said, "Oh no, take your time." However, soon after that another staff member came over and asked what dessert we wanted to order. By then, we had had enough and asked for the check. The waitress seemed to sense that we were uncomfortable and politely asked whether I wanted to pack my rice as well since I had barely touched it. The whole experience felt extremely rushed and uncomfortable. We had only been there for about an hour. It wasn't busy and there wasn't a line of customers waiting for our table. If the food had been amazing or the restaurant had been packed, I might have been more understanding but that wasn't the case. This restaurant ended up being one of my favorite meals of the trip. We had a resy for 11PM on a sunday night and arrived about 15 minutes late, but there's a grace period. This place truly has a special place in my heart. Every time I come to visit family, I always ask them to take me here :) it's one of my absolute favorite restaurants to eat in NYC. The inside has a very homey type of feel to it and the staff are always very nice and attentive. My absolute favorite dish has to be the spicy pork bbq! My friends and I got the Spicy Raw Marinated Crab, Kimchi Pancake, Galbi, and Spicy Grilled Pork Japchae. I LOVED the Kimchi Pancake! Probably the best one I have ever had. It was so crunchy, tasty, and filled with kimchi. I find that some places skimp out on the kimchi and add a lot of onions instead, but not here. The poached egg on top also served its purpose well and added a great flavor to the pancake. I really liked the Galbi too. It tasted like a high quality of meat and it was super tender. Second trip to HNIH! Most places in Ktown are closed until the evening so it's nice that HNIH offers a lunch menu - the bapsangs I think is pretty worth for a $20 meal because they come with a lot of side dishes, and I personally found it very filling. I got the tuna bibimbap - which had great quality tuna btw - and it had a pretty good proportion of tuna to the rest of the toppings. The quinoa (or maybe it was the roe) was very crunchy and the veggies were very refreshing, complemented by the sweet and spicy sauce. K.F.C (Korean Fried Chicken) was tasty with nice chunks of chicken, but the exterior could have been crispier. Budae Hot Pot lacked depth in the broth, although I understand they may be trying to cater to a broader audience. It did have a good variety of ingredients, but the beans were unusual--I've never seen beans included in this soup before. We asked for them to be removed, but they were forgotten. The yuzu beer looked like it was made with fresh yuzu and was served nice and cold. However, it was extremely sweet. It's hard to imagine that level of sweetness without added sugar. The seating is also very tight, and it's difficult to move comfortably. Overall, the concept and atmosphere are fun, but the food and experience didn't quite live up to the hype read more

The favorite of the night was their fried cod as the fish was fried so delicately and didn't feel oily at all. Came here on a Friday evening with a reservation, and was seated very quickly. It had a very modern interior with dim lighting. They brought us 4 small banchan dishes, which they did not refill throughout the evening. I found the small plates here to be more delicious than the large ones. I really liked the cheesiness and kimchi flavors in the kimchi pancake, and it was both chewy and crispy at the same time. The poached egg it came with gave it a good touch too. The black sesame tofu was very unique. I enjoyed the different flavors and textures in the bite, with the creaminess of the tofu and the crispiness of the toppings. The galbi hot pot wasn't super flavorful, but it was very homey and comforting and came with two bowls of rice. The galbi was very tender. The bossam stood out to me the least, but wasn't too fatty. I heard a lot of great things about this place and was excited to check it out while I was in New York. Of course there were no reservations day of, but we waited about 15 minutes and we're seated as walk-ins. We ordered two things to share, and it was more than enough food. We ordered C2: Three kinds of Ham, Rice Cake, Ramen, Beans, Vegetables & Cheese in Veggie Broth. This was absolutely delicious! A huge portion you have to share it. It had a lot of meat and was a very hearty meal. We even had leftovers. We also got the Kimchee pancake, it was a great size to share. It was well cooked and well flavored and we really enjoyed it. The one thing I will say about the service is that one of waiters we just randomly approach the table and stare at us until we started talking to them, and when we tried to order drinks, he walked away. Such a cute cozy restaurant. I was able to get a table by the window and had a lovely time here. Hallabong spritz: 10/10 Crisp and refreshing, not too sweet. It went very well with my meal! Banchan: I got bok choy, chicken sausages, fish cake, and kimchi. These were pretty good, not the best banchan I've had though and wish there was more variety Black sesame tofu: 9/10 This was very unique! I love black sesame and the flavor really came through. I just came to have dinner with a friend and had a great time. We showed up on a weekday around 5:15p and there were only 3-4 tables available. By the time we left there was a line with over 20 people outside! The place is popular, so either come early or be prepared to wait (in the cold), as they don't take reservations. We had the scallion and shrimp pancake (very filling), the fried cod (yummy), the bulgogi (high quality ground beef) and the spicy pork, which in my opinion was the best dish of the night. I wouldn't consider this to be one of the top Korean meals I've ever had, but the food was solid and came out quickly. I'd definitely return to taste more options. read more

Okay where to start... Design wise, it was aesthetic and cozy inside, with ample room for dine in. Loved the minimalist aspect interior and the aesthetics of how dishes and banchans were presented. I came 4 minutes after they opened for lunch and there was already a small line that had formed. Luckily didn't have to wait too long despite not making reservations. Service was great, incredibly attentive and quick. Highly recommend their Yuzu Chicken Moodle Soup lunch special. This is a pretty good deal concerning the many sides that came with the dish. The broth was light but flavorful, the noodles were chewy and bouncy, and the chicken was juicy and tender. Also really enjoyed their sides, especially the watercress, potatoes and that black sesame tofu!!! Finished off my meal with some tiramisu which I also recommend.
