    ceviche-esque dish

I had a delicious meal at Jua. Everything was cooked perfectly, and the service was great. They explained every course, and they were very attentive - my friend accidentally dropped his tablecloth and they immediately brought him a new one. My favorite dish from the tasting menu was the jook. It was a very unique take on congee - it had the consistency of chowder, and I could taste individual grains of rice. Congee usually has the consistency of thick, mashed rice, but this had a really smooth soup texture. There was a smokey flavor and a slight kick of spice. It smelled SO good from the ground sesame. My second favorite dish was the raspberry sorbet - it had a very interesting mix of textures due to the combination of sorbet, yogurt, and the top crunchy thing. It was very refreshing. I was surprised by how crispy the seaweed was for the caviar kim. The lamb dish was a little gamey but not too bad, and it was super tender. The banchan for the lamb was served in a very aesthetic way and paired nicely with the lamb in balancing the heaviness. The sesame ice cream with the sweet potato rice cake donut was a bit of a miss for me - the sesame ice cream had very strong sesame flavor, which I loved, but I thought that the donut was a little hard to chew. I don't know that it was worth the price, but all in all, it was a yummy meal and I'm glad I got to try it.

Amazing tasting menu here. Every dish was great. They only have two sittings at 6 and 8:30pm so everyone starts roughly around the same time. Surprisingly the dishes are spaced out nicely without a long wait so they must be doing some prep and coordination magic to ensure everything comes out at a steady pace. Servers are attentive and friendly. I would def come back here if they rotate the menu on a regular basis.

I had a really great time dining here. We had dinner to send off our friend who decided to move back to SF, so it was a special night. Started off with the Caviar Kim which I loved so much. I'm the type of person who loves pretty much everything from the sea. This was great to start with. The whole order of the menu was perfect. Arctic Char and Striped Jack were interesting and had out of the box flavors. The presentation for each dish was very lovely too. One of my favorites was the Wagyu. Cant go wrong there. Every dish was phenomenal though. As we were getting closer to the end of the menu, we were surprised we were getting full. I'm a huge dessert person and was very impressed with the creativity of the dessert. The first one was a palette cleanser. You take the small spoon and break the top part and eat the dish. It was light and tasteful. Then the second dessert dish was like science and paired well together with the ice cream and I think it was a sweet potato something in the shape of a donut. Whatever it was blew us away because it tasted so well together. The service was excellent. They genuinely asked if we enjoyed each dish and really wanted our opinions. Wonderful restaurant.

Awesome spot with impeccable service, an amazing tasting menu and a fun vibe. Definitely earned their 1 star... highlights were branzino, a jook broth with abalone, and the caviar kim. Also the GOGUMA JUAK was epic. Overall a nice birthday treat.

Hubs took me for my birthday dinner. I was most excited for the caviar and uni courses. The caviar course did not disappoint, but I was so shocked how much I enjoyed the congee dish (we added the abalone). It was so comforting. For the price, it was a very enjoyable tasting menu!

This has been on my list for a while! The service was decent but not exceptional as other places with a Michelin star. They were accommodating when my friend had an aversion to lamb, but you do have to let them know any dietary restriction before you arrive for your reservations. It's a set menu so the dishes can't be modified unless told ahead of time. My favorite dish was the branzino and the jook. The branzino melted in my mouth. It was so silky. The Jook was great for a cold day. Honorable mention was the mandarin sorbet dessert. The tartiness made it a good palette cleanser.

Jua is truly deserving of its Michelin star. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. Everything was so thoughtful and incredibly delicious. The service was super attentive and and always explained what the dish was and how to eat which was so helpful. Caviar Kim: 5/5 - An amazing dish to start the meal. Such a refreshing bite and the crisp seaweed added great texture with the caviar. Mulhoe: 4.5/5 - I'm not the biggest fan of raw fish but this was delicious. The fish was so fresh and the sauce complemented the fish so well. Jook: 5/5 - Comforting and elegant, simple but executed perfectly. Super flavorful! Branzino: 4/5 - Delicately cooked with clean, refined flavors. Lamb & Chan: 5/5 - Hands down my favorite dish of the night. I've never had lamb this tender, juicy, and flavorful. Absolutely unforgettable. Mandarin: 4.5/5 - Light, refreshing sorbet and a perfect palate cleanser. Goguma Juak: 5/5 - One of my other favorites of the evening. So good--crispy, chewy, subtly sweet, and incredibly satisfying. Overall, an outstanding meal with incredible execution, standout dishes, and warm, attentive service. Jua absolutely lives up to the hype, and I can't wait to come back.

It's closer to 4.5! Overall the experience was very good. I asked if I could switch out the lamb and they accommodated and gave me beef instead. My friend who tried both the lamb and the beef said my beef was better. I liked most of the dishes but wasn't a massive fan of the Jook and the mandarin dessert. The crispy part of the dessert kept cutting my throat...might have been my fault because I should have chewed it more but yeah that was uncomfortable. I also don't enjoy tart desserts so this wasn't my favorite. The jook while it tasted good I felt like it www very creamy and heavy and mushroomy. It was a bit too substantial for a dining experience like this. I'd prefer a smaller portion but an extra dish of something else :). They also did a small bday thing for my two friends with a candle and also gave me the same donut dessert (Goguma juak). It seems like it was part of the menu and not an extra item so the special part was the candle only. So at $140 per person it was a good experience but wasn't exceptional hence the 4.5 rating rather than a 5. The restaurant space and table arrangement also didn't feel as upscale but service and food definitely made it good. I didn't get to try their drinks but they seemed enticing so will try another time.

Came here for a dinner for two. You can only do the prefix menu, but you can add on things. We chose to get the base menu without add ons. Really enjoyed all the dishes, but the favorite for me was the mulhoe, very refreshing and loved the Korean flavors on ceviche. The sweet potato mochi donut paired really well with the black sesame ice cream, and it was a combination I didn't expect. Service was prompt and great, every waiter took care to explain the dish and how to eat it. They were very attentive with the water and replacing the utensils as well. Inside is a nice dimly lit vibe, perfect for a date or an indulgent dinner with friends or family.

My first Michelin star restaurant and it didn't disappoint! The restaurant is pretty small and intimate-- it's not overly fancy. At first I expected elaborate decor from a Michelin star place, but I think its ambiance is a nod to the fact that they aren't trying to be pretentious, and despite the high standards of the food, the feel of the restaurant and the staff is very welcoming. The servers are super nice and casual, although professional and gave great recommendations. The food was amazing all around. The caviar kim and uni kim were delicious and so fresh. My favorite dish was the jook--the ultimate comfort food on a cold day. I'd say the most underwhelming course was the dessert but I still enjoyed it. I know they switch their menus up so I would totally come back to try more!

Wow I don't even know where to start! JUA was PHENOMENAL! One of my favorite Michelin restaurants I've eaten at! The courses meal made it feel similar to fine dining but was still pretty cozy. The service was great -- the waiters had wonderful attention to detail. The meal itself left me speechless. While certain elements of the menu rotates, there's a couple of staples. I literally had no notes. I was extremely satisfied and stuffed by the end of the meal!

Fantastic from start to finish. The standouts for me was the jook and the branzino. Just perfect rich flavors for both. The abalone was really tender as well as the branzino.

    Becky C.

We really wanted to love this due to many friends recommendations and reviews. Unfortunately we just didn't love it that much. The meal started out pretty good. The drinks were delicious and the kims were both really yummy. We added on the uni kim and it was my favorite bite of the night. Fish was fresh and the nori had such a nice crunch. The mulhoe was also pretty good. The kimchi sauce/soup that was poured over was sooooo delicious. Would recommend cubing the veggies and fruit to make it easier to eat. The next few dishes really took a turn. The jook was okay. We didn't think it was anything special and was a little on the saltier side for us. We did not add the abalone. The branzino was nice but the green sauce it was in was SO pungent and honestly tasted like what I imagine smelly socks would taste. I thought maybe it was just my dish but my partners was also not good. The fish itself was really flakey and the skin was nicely crisped. But the sauce was very underwhelming. The next dish was the lamb and chan. The lamb was very good and that's coming from someone who doesn't like red meat. BUT the chan was awfully salty. Aside from the fried lotus root bite, everything else was terrible. I had to wash down each bite with water. For dessert, the mandarin sorbet was okay. Nothing special and I thought mine was kind of tart but my partner enjoyed his. The last dish was really good though! The sweet potato item was chewy and flavor was on point. I would eat many of those. All in all, I felt like the menu had high highs but then low lows. Which was unexpected given all the praise we've heard about this place. The service was pretty good and attentive. On par with any other fine dining experience. Restaurant was clean and food came out at a good pace. We probably wouldn't be back just because the lows were quite low.

Their menu leans into fusion dishes with a nod to some of the classic home-style classics. Everything is presented with a refined, elevated touch. Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. We walked into a stylish but relaxed space that feels suited for both casual dinners and a night out with friends, with an atmosphere that balances energy and comfort well. The room gets lively when it fills up, but the noise level adds to the experience rather than detracting from it, making it feel like a place built for sharing and conversation. The food is where Hojokban stands out. The complimentary banchan sets the tone for the meal with flavorful sides that add variety before the main dishes arrive, each one thoughtfully prepared and offering a different texture or flavor profile. The gomtang soup is one of the more comforting options, bringing together tender meat, a rich broth, and classic Korean flavors in a way that feels hearty without being overly heavy. The galbi dishes are also a highlight, with the meat cooked well and carrying the sweet and savory balance that makes Korean-style grilled beef so enjoyable. The portions are generous, and the quality of the ingredients is noticeable across the board. The menu has several unique dishes worth exploring. The truffle potato pancake is one of the more memorable items, combining a familiar Korean staple with a richer, modern twist that adds depth without losing the essence of the original. The perilla oil noodles are another standout, offering a lighter but still flavorful option with a distinct nutty aroma that lingers on the palate. The beef tartare adds a more refined element to the meal, fresh and well seasoned, while dishes like the ramyun fried rice bring a fun comfort food element with bold, savory flavors. Together, the menu covers enough ground that you can build a meal around both familiar favorites and more creative choices. Service is friendly and the overall experience feels welcoming rather than overly formal. The staff are attentive without hovering, and they handle the busy flow of the restaurant with a pace that keeps the meal moving without feeling rushed. The menu is designed for sharing, and the portions make it easy to order several dishes across the table, allowing you to try more of what the kitchen has to offer. The lively atmosphere adds to the meal, making it a good fit for group dinners where the energy of the room matches the pace of the food. Hojokban does a good job blending traditional Korean flavors with a more modern dining experience. It is a place where you can come for familiar comfort food while still finding dishes that feel creative and different. If you enjoy Korean cuisine and want a restaurant with a little more personality, this is a spot worth checking out. Seafood Pancake: Great pick. Crispy on the outside and packed with seafood inside. Beef Belly & Mala Cream Noodle Soup: Loved this one. Udon with tender beef and baby octopus... so good!!! Spicy Braised Pork Rib Stew: Rich, comforting, and full of flavor. The highlight for me was the raw marinated crab. I spotted it on the wall menu and immediately had to order it. It's rare to find in the city! And honestly, this was way better than BCD's. So flavorful. Only complaint... the banchan portions are small and not a lot of variety. Other than that, I really enjoyed my meal and I'd definitely recommend this spot.

The food tastes good, the lunch prices are reasonable and honestly they have better ban chan than a lot of other places. (And where else are you going to get a full fish as a complimentary ban chan?) The servers kept things moving but with very minimal interference and no extra visits; we would have liked a little more attention when we finished some of the banchan and kind of expected they would be replenished, but we certainly were fine without it. And the entrees were delicious and even with other tables almost on top of each other it never felt crowded due to partitions that I saw them remove for some larger groups needing tables "together", and I never felt part of someone else's dinner convo. Presentation was amazing and food was delicious - Soon Tofu Soup with seafood for me, which arrived bubbling like a cauldron. It came with a raw egg that you crack into the soup and let it cook to your level of doneness. Hubs got hot stone bibimbap and as we all know the crispy rice is the best part of it... it's just tough to separate it from the actual stone dish so you can eat it, especially if you wait until it cools and fuses. If I was there with more stomach space I wanted to try the galbi, and in fact there's a weekday lunch combo that could facilitate that.

They advertised themselves as having the best katsu in NYC and they may just be right. With our order it came with a bunch of side dishes. Kimchi, Marconi salad, and mashed potatoes, and others. I would absolutely love to come back here again for lunch and probably will.

The Ssambap Set was incredibly satisfying. The beef was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the fresh lettuce wraps, rice, banchan, and soup. Every bite was well-balanced and packed with flavor. We also ordered the Mixed Katsu Set, which was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and cooked to perfection. It came with generous portions and made for a comforting, filling meal. The restaurant has a modern and welcoming atmosphere, the staff was friendly and attentive, and everything arrived fresh and beautifully presented. If you're looking for a delicious Korean lunch in NYC's Koreatown, Jeong Yuk Jeom is definitely worth a visit. I'll be coming back to try more of their menu!

The galbi-jjim was perfectly tender like I could literally pull it apart with my chopstick. The addition of the rice cake, pumpkin, and pyogo mushroom were a nice touch. The soy sauce base was a little sweet and if you take a bit and pour it over the mushroom sotbap, it is soooooooo good!!!!!!! The mushroom sotbap is so umami. There is foie gras in it which maybe be in a little overpowering for some people but I really enjoyed it I could easily eat a whole bowl of their freshly made kimchi. It was perfect. Not too salty or spicy or fermented. Literally perfect!!! I actually asked for seconds. The cold cucumber broth was really refreshing Highly, highly recommend making a resy!! We got their fried chicken, beef tartare, 2 galbi jjim, and their bossam. Everything was phenomenal. While I think we could've skipped the chicken, the galbi jjim is a must-try. Cocktails are also great here. Amazing dining experience, food, ambiance, service, and I highly recommend.
