It was still very bustling when we walked in and there was a queue of people waiting to be seated. We waited at most 5 minutes, which was not bad. The food is as good as I remembered and they offered to refill our banchan dishes, which was great. They still had the plastic barriers between tables which I appreciated since the tables are quite tight and in close quarters. The dividers gave a small sense of privacy. They gave me an assorted soon tofu and I noticed a hair in it. When I brought it up, they said it was just from the mussel and then left. My assorted tofu doesn't have mussel in it. It was also too long and the wrong color to be from a shrimp. It could not have been hair from my party as it was just brought out and buried underneath the seafood but sticking out through the side. They did replace our soup and give us a new one after we spoke to someone else. read more

One of my favorite places to go whenever I visit NY! I got the galbi and mild sundubu with pork.

I thought the sundubu was super good and the spice level actually kept it to par. I like how the extra spicy was ACTUALLY spicy and the amount of dishes and they even give you fish and egg this made it a 10/10 for me. Super nice balanced meal that could leave anyone full. Service could be more nice and less rushed/ but they are super busy so it's expected. Honestly i think that's the only thing they need to improve on. Manhattan, NY (Koreatown) - I love BCD and frequent the one in Fort Lee pretty regularly, but for years have assiduously avoided this NYC location as it's always a madhouse every time I've come here for dinner with friends or co-workers, and because there are so many other great Korean options on this strip. But there's no denying that BCD has upped their soondubu game considerably in the last decade+ with a thicker, more deeply flavored broth, and now easily rivals my longtime favorite and gold standard, the OG So Kong Dong in Fort Lee. Then I stumbled into a hack that changed my view: lunch! I ducked in for a late lunch on a whim while walking by one day, and this turned out to be a much chiller hour, unhurried and no reservation needed. I was promptly seated, my order taken, and the banchan swiftly laid out. The banchan spread is solid across the board (the little fried fish does nothing for me, but seems to be a highlight for everyone else). I especially love the kimchi, near-perfect IMO, and the pickled cucumber. There's a modest lunch discount, which is a nice bonus for someone who likes to order aggressively. I usually get an oyster, seafood, or assorted soondubu (with a raw egg cracked in), danger spicy of course! Or go the C1 combo route with a galbi (marinated bbq beef short ribs) + smaller soondubu. It's an enormous amount of food, so I take most of the galbi home and feel no shame about it. The galbi, by the way, has also gotten noticeably better over the years - meatier, tender, and the flavor is on point. I've also enjoyed their bibimbap, bulgogi, jap chae, and seafood pancake. Finally, let's talk heat - this chili-head loooves fire! And BCD's danger level is one of the rare instances where the spice level actually meets my punishing tolerance for heat, not some pretense at "American spicy.," despite this being a chain. Their danger level actually means business and brings tears to my eyes, literally. It's still not my favorite place ambience wise, and dinner remains a contact sport I've mostly opted out of, as gone are the days that I can tolerate a culinary mosh pit, and any wait longer than 10 minutes (and only for a superlative place) will trigger an automatic ejection of my presence. But for lunch? Unexpectedly great. 4 stars for dinner, 5 for lunch. read more

Came here at 4:30 during the week with two friends and was promptly seated. One friend was late but as long as we ordered for her they allowed us to sit. The service was friendly and did not rush us. The food was solid, the atmosphere was exactly perfect for an earlybird dinner reunion of college friends that happened to be taking place between World Cup matches (so the place was full but there was no line when we arrived; when we left there was an outdoor queue with a stanchion separation for groups of 1 or 2, vs 3+). The servers kept things moving but with very minimal interference and no extra visits; we would have liked a little more attention when we finished some of the banchan and kind of expected they would be replenished, but we certainly were fine without it. And the entrees were delicious and even with other tables almost on top of each other it never felt crowded due to partitions that I saw them remove for some larger groups needing tables "together", and I never felt part of someone else's dinner convo. Presentation was amazing and food was delicious - Soon Tofu Soup with seafood for me, which arrived bubbling like a cauldron. It came with a raw egg that you crack into the soup and let it cook to your level of doneness. Hubs got hot stone bibimbap and as we all know the crispy rice is the best part of it... it's just tough to separate it from the actual stone dish so you can eat it, especially if you wait until it cools and fuses. If I was there with more stomach space I wanted to try the galbi, and in fact there's a weekday lunch combo that could facilitate that. read more

The bibimbap was fresh and tasty. It came with an order of rice, excellent banchan, consisting of kimchi, beans, pickled cucumbers and broccoli, and, a very nice fried yellow croaker fish. Fairly large place in Midtown where they don't take reservations and you stand in line either a party of 2 or smaller or party of 3 or more. The long was 20 ppl long at 7 pm on a Wed. moved fast. The cabbage kimchi was okay, it wasn't fermented, the napa cabbage was crunchy, not pungent nor spicy. I am not of fan of spicy, but this dish lacked any heat. The cucumber kimchi was noting special either. Not spicy nor any heat. Unlimited banchan. When you order any entree or combo meal a free deep fried 6" crocker fish is given. I've walked past this place countless times during lunch breaks and in the evenings and there's always a line, which finally convinced me to try it. Almost every dish features tofu, and the menu has a great variety: dumpling tofu soup, seafood tofu, beef or pork options, plus a few non-soup dishes. I ordered takeout for lunch and immediately wondered why the bag was so big. Once I got back to the office, I understood why the portions are huge. Everything was packed neatly and thoughtfully, which I really appreciated. Now for the best part: the food. The seafood tofu soup was rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying. It came loaded with soft tofu, mussels, clams, and even a large shrimp. I love shrimp... just not when it's staring back at me so I skipped that part. Portion-wise, this could easily feed two people or be saved for another meal. The banchan were also a win broccoli, kimchi, cucumbers, and a small fried fish. When you order, they ask your spice level (extra spicy, mild, or non-spicy), which is always appreciated. Will I be back? Absolutely.
