I love the concept of JuDam! I only got to try the items offered at the bar (separate menu than the dining room) and loved my experience! The bar is more for drinking and snacking on the various types of fishcakes they make fresh in house! Each stick is about $5-6. My favorite was the pepper fish cake and the orignal. The tuna mayo rice balls were also delicious. Broth is unlimited refills (so comforting- ! There is a one drink per person minimum! They don't take reservations for the bar, I can see it being very popular at night. I definitely will be back to try the other menu as well! They have a lot of interesting dishes that are right up my alley :)

    Odeng!

We went to the odeng bar and the concept was great. However, as someone who's been to Korea before it was overpriced considering that you could buy them by for less than a dollar on the road. the odeng was tasty and surprisingly filling. I enjoyed the strawberry makeoggli a lot as well. The strawberries were fresh giving it a homemade strawberry milkshake feeling rather than an artificial strawberry ice cream. The music was a chill rnb style and generally a great ambience for catching up. The service was impeccable. I asked for a bowl of broth once and then my sever refilled it multiple times without me asking. They also had a complimentary coat check as well. Next time I want to check out their regular entrees as well.

After my trip to Japan last year, I've been on a quest to find a spot that pours a draft beer with the same precision and care. I finally found it at JUDAM. The Draft Beer Experience: The staff member behind the bar deserves an award! The Suntory Premium Malts Draft was poured to perfection--the head was creamy and the temperature was spot on. If you appreciate a high-quality Japanese draft, this place is a must-visit. It truly brought back the best memories of my travels. The Food (The Yukhoe!): We tried several dishes but the Yukhoe (Korean-style beef tartare) was easily the star of the show. It was fresh, well-seasoned, and paired beautifully with our drinks. While the other dishes were solid, the Yukhoe is the one I'll be coming back for. Ambiance & Service: The vibe is perfect for a casual "catch-up" with friends. It has that cozy yet trendy Korean Pocha feel that makes you want to stay for another round. The service was attentive, and as mentioned, their attention to detail with the beverages is what sets them apart.

I stumbled upon this bar when trying to find Barbam (which is located downstairs). This new Korean spot has a full-restaurant menu, but I sat at their oden (fishcake) bar and thus only saw a limited menu. It's a super vibey spot, great for drinks with friends, and I loved their oden bar. They have a selection of 9 different skewers as well as a small menu of other bites. While the fishcakes weren't anything out of the ordinary (it tasted like something you can get at the supermarket), the broth was perfect for a cold day. Definitely expensive for what it is but nice vibe.

    Drunken Steamed clams

We got the chicken dumplings, marinated short rib risotto, and drunken steamed clams. The chicken dumplings were quite interesting as they were deboned and stuffed with shrimp and scallop filling. TBH, these tasted fine; however, I didn't think find the taste to be that impactful. It tasted mainly like chicken with a mild shrimp flavor if you tried really hard to imagine it. I didn't notice any scallop. This would be something I would pass on if I were to go again. That being said, the marinated short rib risotto was so good. The short rib was pretty tender and flavorful. I loved eating it with the creamy risotto. My favorite dish had to be the drunken steamed clams in white wine. They had a great light and briny taste with a surprisingly spicy kick that actually caught me off guard. It was a nice contrast as it wasn't too heavy when compared to the creamy risotto of the short rib dish. They have an interesting ordering service that is very much common in Korea where you order from Ipads. I really love this way or ordering because you don't feel too rushed going through the menu and it allows you to see visual images of all the foods you can potentially order. Additionally, you don't have to go through the hassle of flagging someone down once you've finalized your dish. Once we hit that submit button, servers were pretty quick to provider us with plates, water cups, and any additional sides very quickly. This is a good place to get decent food and have a girls date.

    Boiled Pork Jowl Sujaebi

While it's a pity that Rib No.7 closed its doors, it's been rebranded into a new modern korean fusion spot. Honestly, the prices feel way more accessible than before, and the menu is more tapas or izakaya style with smaller portions. Perfect for trying a bunch of dishes while sipping on some makgeolli. *Marinated Short Rib Risotto $29 *** *Braised Marinated Short Rib $36 * Apparently, beef dishes are still their strong suit. The risotto was an easy favorite, as the short rib was very tender and paired nicely with the cheesy risotto. The braised short rib arrived steaming hot with glass noodles, carrots, and shredded omelet, and would be perfect with a bowl of rice. *Boiled Pork Jowl Sujaebi $32 * An interesting DIY noodle dish served with sliced pork jowl and sauces. Our taiwanese friend said it reminded him of miàn gē da (麵疙瘩) his grandma used to make all the time. You tear the noodle dough into pieces and drop them into the soup. The broth had a nice black pepper flavor, so it didn't even need any extra seasoning. Super cozy and delicious for a cold day. *Fried Button Mushroom $14 * My favorite appetizer of the night! The mushrooms were juicy and meaty, and the truffle mushroom aioli added an extra layer of umami. *Oysters $18/6pc At around $3 per oyster, this was a pretty good deal. They serve fresh oysters from Long Island, and they tasted fresh. *Uni Perilla Oil Buckwheat Noodle $29 I wish there was more uni, especially since it was an extra $10. The noodles had a nutty flavor, but overall, they were pretty bland. *Beef Tartare $24 I enjoyed the beef tartare with raw egg yolk and seaweed rolls, but some of the beef at the bottom was still frozen. We checked with the server, who said it was normal. I'm not entirely sure about that, so I might skip this next time. *Paddle Weed Rice Ball with Pollack $17 I was excited for this one, but the riceball wasn't well-seasoned. Most of the flavor came from the mentai mayo and seaweed, which were fairly subtle. *Matcha Makgeolli $22 *** *Yuzu Drop $15 *** Their makgeolli and cocktail menu was phenomenal. The yuzu drop was so good my friend literally chugged it. The matcha makgeolli was rich, foamy, and creamy, and I only wish my alcohol tolerance was better so I could drink more!

Been excited to see what the new place would be after Rib No.7 disappeared, but I have to say that it is pretty disappointing. Service is slow, even though they're nice. It took awhile for the check in to find us our table even though all the customers were seated in the back? A little confused about that. The ordering system is on the tablet that is attached to your table, kind of how many new Korean restaurants in the city are doing. You can see the description and picture of each item which is pretty nice. However, it was annoying that the screen was on the whole time, full brightness, and kept switching scenes every couple seconds. Everything but the sujebi were pretty disappointing as they tasted pretty homemade (?). It just didn't taste like a dish that was served in a restaurant. The sujebi was really chewy and it was fun making it ourselves with the given gloves! The broth was pretty clean and flavorful (not too strong). The drinks were also just ok. The strawberry makgeolli tasted like strawberry and milk blended in, with some makgeolli in, but also something that tastes homemade. The mocktail was pretty watered down and not as flavorful. It was lacking some carbonation as well. Overall, we were not impressed and hope the food gets better! I would be down to check out the oden bar near the entrance next time.

    Mala Rose Chicken
    Rainey C.

Really great food! Knocked off a star only because I wasn't a huge fan of the dessert we got, the Strawberry Tofu Pudding. We felt like it was a weird texture, we expected more soft pudding-like but it felt like a literal block of tofu. And no flavor (even with the strawberries). Besides dessert though, the main food was AMAZING. We got the Mala Rose Chicken, Korean Chicken Pancake, and Marinated Short Rib Risotto. My personal fave was the risotto. I think the fish sauce had a really unique taste and it was super flavorful. The Mala Rose Chicken is less of the typical "rose" flavor you'd imagine with cream, it's more of just a spicy gochujang base! And then the Korean Chicken Pancake is like a spicy honey glaze.

    Pork belly, perilla oil noodles
    Cece L.

The interior of the place was nice enough that it made me excited about this new restaurant. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed. The perilla oil noodles are really bland and lack any flavor -- it's hard to eat the dish on its own. The pork belly was okay. My friend liked it, but I thought it could've been much more tender. The kimchi it comes with is decently spicy, if that's what you're looking for. Good service.

    Tteokboki
    Maggie Z.

A little overpriced for the food you get but I was a fan of the short rib risotto, interesting flavor that I enjoyed. Tteokboki was pretty standard but the fried rice in it was good

they have a great variety of shareable dishes so best to order a few to fill you up. upon walking into our reservation, you smell the aroma of odeng soup and you see the odeng bar. truly mimics the vibe in korea where you can have fishcakes off the skewers. we sat at a table with the ipad ordering kiosk and that was helpful with a picture menu. we got the sujebi, stuffed chicken wings, odeng, and short rib rissoto. Overall super yummy but nothing wow and a little pricey even for ktown standards. The highlight was probably making our own sujebi by pulling the ball of dough, and we wish we got more in the portion size. It's also very dimly lit inside Judam, so it sets a nice vibe for date night.

    Pork and kimchi; fishcake soup
    Jess J.

Great food and friendly service! You can choose table or bar seating. The fishcake bar seating has a small drink minimum requirement. Table seating had more menu selection. We had the fishcake soup which came with a small boiler, and kept it hot. Slightly salty but tasty. Highlight was the chicken dumpling, which was stuffed with scallop and had a peppery crispy skin. The pork and kimchi paired well but were a bit too spicy. Only con is that the lighting was way too dark. I was getting sleepy after all that food.

    Jessie K.

Yummy drinks and food. Great place for sharing plates. You order on a screen attached to the table and can order more throughout the meal. Forks not provided unless you ask. One stall restroom but additional downstairs. Good for date or friend group

The effortless tranquility encourages you to slow down, enjoy the food, and get away from the everyday, hubbub. Their menu leans into fusion dishes with a nod to some of the classic home-style classics. Everything is presented with a refined, elevated touch. Here's what we ordered: ~ Tako Wasabi - 5/5 stars A fiery delight. This appetizer feartures chopped raw octopus marinated in wasabi. It has a lively zest from the wasabi and is topped with tobiko, which adds a pleasant contrast in texture. ~ Honey Makgeolli - 4/5 stars A traditional fermented Korean beverage that is light and pairs brilliantly with your meal. It is a cloudy alcholoic drink served in a metal teapot, and surprisingly, there is much more in that teapot than you would expect. It easily provides six to eight generous pours. The flavor is subtly sweet with a pleasant tang. ~ Temaki Set - 4/5 stars You can order a set of three by choosing from selections 1-17, or you can order a la carte at the listed prices. Some of the temaki stood out more than others. Our two sets included marinated salmon, bluefin tuna, spicy yellowtail, spicy bluefin, and two dynamite temaki. ~ Spicky Pork Ssam Set - 5/5 stars Truly another standout entree that even surpassed my beloved grilled BBQ bossam. You received a generous basket of assorte greens, including romaine, kale, perilla leaves, dandelion leaves, nappa cabbage, and more. It is well worth the price and makes for a fun, interactive dining experience with your family and friends. There is also various banchan offered and this time, they were beyond kind enough to offer refills. The last time we were here, we ordered just as much food and they stated they normally did not offer refills, which I thought was very odd. Needless to say, we will be back!

We got the large beef combination platter which comes with ribeye, thin skirt, brisket, marinated kalbi, and marinated chuck flap. Most people stuck with water, while a couple got ginger ale. I ordered the soju flight but I ended up not liking it so my cousins shared it. The meal comes with different veggies as well as your choice of soup. We got the spicy tofu and split it 6 ways. The spice lived up to its name, so I didn't eat very much. The best part was meat. Despite there being 6 of us, there was plenty to go around. I think you have the option to cook it yourself or have them cook it for you and we chose the latter. While I enjoyed it, I wish there was more space. Most of the space was taken up by the accompaniments that come with it (veggies, etc), so there was hardly any room to put anything else. It didn't help that none of our dishes were cleared once we finished them and that no rice is included. Aside from that, both the food and service were great.

But there's no denying that BCD has upped their soondubu game considerably in the last decade+ with a thicker, more deeply flavored broth, and now easily rivals my longtime favorite and gold standard, the OG So Kong Dong in Fort Lee. Then I stumbled into a hack that changed my view: lunch! I ducked in for a late lunch on a whim while walking by one day, and this turned out to be a much chiller hour, unhurried and no reservation needed. I was promptly seated, my order taken, and the banchan swiftly laid out. The banchan spread is solid across the board (the little fried fish does nothing for me, but seems to be a highlight for everyone else). I especially love the kimchi, near-perfect IMO, and the pickled cucumber. There's a modest lunch discount, which is a nice bonus for someone who likes to order aggressively. I usually get an oyster, seafood, or assorted soondubu (with a raw egg cracked in), danger spicy of course! Or go the C1 combo route with a galbi (marinated bbq beef short ribs) + smaller soondubu. It's an enormous amount of food, so I take most of the galbi home and feel no shame about it. The galbi, by the way, has also gotten noticeably better over the years - meatier, tender, and the flavor is on point. I've also enjoyed their bibimbap, bulgogi, jap chae, and seafood pancake. Finally, let's talk heat - this chili-head loooves fire! And BCD's danger level is one of the rare instances where the spice level actually meets my punishing tolerance for heat, not some pretense at "American spicy.," despite this being a chain. Their danger level actually means business and brings tears to my eyes, literally. It's still not my favorite place ambience wise, and dinner remains a contact sport I've mostly opted out of, as gone are the days that I can tolerate a culinary mosh pit, and any wait longer than 10 minutes (and only for a superlative place) will trigger an automatic ejection of my presence. But for lunch? Unexpectedly great. 4 stars for dinner, 5 for lunch.

Servers were friendly and mostly attentative, restaurant decors and cleanliness of interiors and bathrooms were quite good. Would come back again next time in the Herald Square area.
