Sat at a high top by the bar and had a fairly light dinner. The Beef Tartare comes out with a cracked quail egg for you to pour into the meat yourself and the beef sat on top of sone sliced pear. It's a small appetizer but it tasted fresh and clean, the crispness of the pear matches well with the heaviness of the beef. The cured shrimp was delicious, I'm sad there was only 3 because I wanted 5 servings of it. The uni, roe, and soy shrimp practically melted in your mouth. The Uni Bimbimbap has rave reviews and I can see why. It was filling without being overly heavy and each bite had uni in it after mixing it up. Came here with some friends for dinner and maybe a drink. We ended up ordering the pork shank, french fries, seafood rose tteobokki, soy garlic wings and the spicy wings. We also wanted to get drinks, however 2 of the 5 of us didnt have ID and were told if one person didnt have ID, no one could get drinks. I felt like everything we got was unfortunately just okay. The wings had decent flavor but they were small and barely had any meat in them. The seafood tteobokki felt like it lacked depth. The pork shank was unfortunately extremely dry. While I am not too familiar with Korean food, I actually have been to this space before - albeit upstairs at their cocktail bar/lounge. Osamil is kind of a Korean fusion spot - the vibes are super casual with an almost industrial feel with medium wood tables and stools for seating. The space isn't too large, but there's enough room for a sizable bar. Tables are somewhat close to each other so it gives the feeling of being crowded if the restaurant is full, but it wasn't uncomfortable. However, I will say that I didn't think our table was large enough for our party. We were 6 people at a small round table that made it tight and a challenge to hold all our dishes; when we asked, we were told it's standard to sit parties our size at these tables. We decided to share a bunch of dishes: foie gras, lamb, kimchi fried rice, truffle fries, salad, and budae-jjigae. The fishes ranged from being just okay to good - the strongest ones for me were the budae-jjigae, salad, and foie gras. These were all great - creative dishes with lots of flavor. The fries were just fries and the rice and lamb were a little underwhelming; they lacked flavor. Service was a mixed bag - I noticed it was taking a while for a server to come to our table after seating and other tables who sat after us were being taken care of. A member of our party needed to flag someone down, but after that service went smoothly. My happy hour gin martini was very good but one of my colleagues didn't care for his xtra dirty vodka martini. He switched to an old fashioned which was also good, standard and what you'd expect. Thumbs up. My favorite dish was the soy cured shrimp, wow so flavorful! But the bulgogi entree fell short--it was like a sweet minced burger patty. The short rib, zucchini & potato jeon, wings, kimchi fried rice with steak, Kumamoto oysters--all 10/10. For the entrees, which we shared family-style, we ordered the braised short rib and the nearly famous lamb galbi. I thought the squid fries tasted alright. I did like how they had unique Asian-inspired sauces (soy wasabi mayo dip and vinegar gochujang dip) and I liked that they were squid fries, rather than regular potato fries. Honestly, I preferred the potato and zucchini jeon over the squid fries, since the potato, zucchini, onion, and carrots were thinly sliced and the savory pancake was crispy. The ingredients are unique too since most of the time, I've only seen a seafood pancake or kimchi pancake at Korean restaurants. It was a pleasant surprise. For the entrees, the beef was fall off the bone and each side used in the plating of the short rib had a unique taste. The lamb though was the real star of the show. I came to Osamil with my colleagues for a holiday dinner. We'd previously visited the bar upstairs and remembered the drinks being good, so I was looking forward to trying the restaurant. On Resy, it states that guests are allowed to dine for 1 hour and 45 minutes. While I do understand the business reason of placing a time limit on dining, I think that it's one of the unfortunate lasting effects of Covid (which is when I think dining time limitations started). Fortunately for us, Osamil didn't rush us out when our meal went past that time; either they don't enforce it strictly, or we got lucky. We did dine fairly early on a weeknight though. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. It's modern with elements of traditional Korean. We were seated right away when we arrived. We were a group of 6 and were seated on one of the round tables. For a more comfortable dining experience, I'd recommend coming with a smaller group of 4-5. We ordered several things off the menu, and all the dishes were pretty good. However, I didn't think that there were any particular stand out dishes. We tried the wings, French fries, daenjang foie gras, endive & Korean pear salad, seafood rose tteokbokki, lamb galbi, kimchi fried rice with hangar steak and the Johnson tang. Of what we ordered, my favorite dish was the foie gras. The kimchi fried rice was also good, but fairly standard. Overall, I wouldn't say that Osamil serves Korean food. It's more like American food with Korean influence. I think it may be a good introduction to Korean food for people who've never had it, are curious to try it, but still want a meal that feels kinda familiar. They aren't the best at accommodating allergies so be warned if you don't eat a lot of Korean food because of this. When I finally did get the food it was ok. A word to oyster traditionalists looking for cocktail sauce to go with your oysters. This probably isn't the place for you, as they're served with a wasabi type sauce. But these oysters, in my opinion, didn't need any sauce at all. They were sweet, with deep wells in them. Half a dozen will set you back $12. The special is available all day Monday and Sunday, as well as Tues-Sat from 5-7. The guys next to us ordered an entire rotisserie chicken which smelled incredible.
