What a night! I have bed. Here twice and completely different experiences. I went a couple years ago during a slow time. Wasn't packed at all. Remember having a kimchi pasta dish I loved that's no longer on the menu. Fast forward to last week. Went with my buddy who used to a local Korean chef. I told him about this spot I went to a couple years ago with one of the smallest elevators ever. I'm a big guy with claustrophobia. So being in that death trap was a core memory. We started walking to K town from Hell's Kitchen. We get through Times Square and my buddy says hey I think this is the spot you told me about with the elevator. We walk into the lobby downstairs and I say yup! lol we get upstairs in a packed elevator. We get on the list because they are packed. It's a Friday night. About 15 mins later we get a table. The elevator also takes a while but you can always take the stairs (walk up past Miss Korea). The spot is vibey and full of seats, but gets a bit loud as you may imagine. Service is pretty decent and they are accommodating of dietary restrictions, though they just omit and don't do replacements. MUI is a great bar, hidden from tourists on the fifth floor of a nondescript building in what's called Koreatown. We were two old white guys in a bar with 100% young Koreans. No one cared. Mui is located on the 5th floor, right above a Korean karaoke, off of the main K-town strip. It could be a bit hard to find but there's a pretty big sign right outside that leads you to the elevators. The ambiance is nice and lively and the staff are very attentive and kind. I've been here more than 10 times and always come back for the Chicken Popper with Scallion Salad. The honey mustard sauce with the perfectly fried chicken makes this a 10/10 dish. All of their dishes are made for sharing, so depending on the night I usually get the above and a few beers. Came to MUI on a Thursday night and had a great time! The space was really lively and buzzing with music in the background. The cocktails are delicious and strong. I tried the Tropical Fluff (Rum, Aperol, Grapefruit, Pineapple, Banana, Orange) and my friend got the Garden Waltz (Gin, Limoncello, Lavender, Honey, Lemon, Tonic). Both were really nicely presented as well. The Spam Cheese Roll was a really unique dish - there's spam and cheese inside wrapped with seaweed (just like a sushi roll). I liked it but not sure that I would order it again. The Tofu Kimchi Bossam was the star dish of our meal! I loved the modern twist on a traditional dish. The pork belly was full of flavor and did not have an overwhelming amount of fat. The Bulgogi Japchae was delicious and full of toppings which I really enjoyed. Unfortunately, we did order one dish that was a huge miss - the Snowing Cheese Potato Pancake. It was hard to eat this dish because of how greasy and drenched in oil it was. We decided to give this one a try because it had a star next to it on the menu, so we assumed it was a customer-favorite. Service was decent, but nothing overly special. The pocha itself is pretty spacious and the two sides of the venue have two different vibes. The side with the stools and tables def give more of a Korean pocha feel, while the side with the regular chairs and tables feel more like a casual restaurant. The staff are all pretty friendly and attentive, and despite it being pretty busy it wasn't hard to flag someone down to order. Aside from the copious amounts of alcohol we also ordered pork belly and tofu kimchi which was so good! Not just for a pocha but for Korean food standards in general the food here was pretty solid! This is probably my favorite pochas in Ktown! They have the best food and service! My friends and I were hopping around ktown for some drinks and just left another pocha with some pretty bad service, so it was a relief that the service at Mui was so friendly and prompt. I was super hungry at this point and not really in the mood to drink anymore but was worried the food wouldn't be good but was quickly shut down after the first bite. We got the bossam, budae jiggae and stirfried gopchang to share. The bossam JUST HIT, the tofu was soft and complimented well with the sour kimchi and pork belly. And the budae jiggae was served hot under a flame filled with so many toppings, they did not skimp out of the spam or sausages! I would say the gopchang was the least favorite just because we preferred ours to be more burnt but it still had a good flavor to it. More on the pricey side in comparison to the portions but I would come back here to try their drinks!! read more

Had a reservation for 4. Our 4th got here about 20 mins late but the staff was accommodating. They seated us 15 mins after the time of our reservation then our 4th came and joined us at the table. There are lots of options on their menu, we took our time going through it then ordered. Drinks came out first then food, all in a reasonable amount of time. Our visit here lasted about two hours so this is sort of a dinner and hang out spot. No one rushed us at any point. Our group got a few other items and drinks but I didn't try them so won't comment but everyone said their drink was good. 3.7/5 Army stew - a little more sour than I remember it being when I've had this at other places. Wonder if they use more kimchi and that's what makes it more sour. There was a good mix of ingredients and the ramen didn't get soggy quickly. The smell is strong though and will stick to your clothes. 4/5 Clam soup with dough flake - this is a thin, rather clear soup. I felt like I was cleansing myself on the inside when I drank it. There is some spice and lots of clams still in their shells. I don't see this item at many korean restaurants but maybe I havent been paying attention (I tend to not eat much seafood). Delightful, would order again. 10/10 Matcha-tini - SO GOOD. I am a big matcha fan and will almost always get it when I see it in a drink. The flavor of it is so strong and accurate in this drink. The food was good, but I like some other places in Koreatown more. My friend and I started with the kimchi pancake, which you can tell by the photo attached, we enjoyed a lot. My friend thought their grilled spicy chicken was okay, the sauce with the mozzarella cheese was a little odd. I thought my japchae had nice flavor, but I've had other japchaes that I've enjoyed more. Service was average. For a 5th floor venture on some cramp sus stairs, the interior of MUI was the exact opposite, with dim lighting to set a modern hip night ambiance on a weekend. We ordered a bunch of items but everything came individually, like we were eating a fine dining course. I personally wasn't a fan given the wait in between eating and the inability to snap a full spread pic. The Tofu Kimchi w/ Pork Belly ($25) could have been an appetizer lookswise, but the hefty price tag says otherwise. You can have this same great taste if you make them yourself, so I'd pass on this. The Spicy Pork Feet ($25) had a spicy kick to it. I never had pork feet in small pieces like this, but I enjoyed its marinated spice from the peppers. Not sure what pairing the rice balls offer, but they sure helped calm the spice! They also make for a fitting picnic food. The Kimchi Pancake ($19) comprised of a small circle with thick pieces. They had the same flavor I was craving, with more emphasis on the dough than the kimchi, and way crispier than other places'. The Grilled Beef Intestines ($24) were the last to come out, although I wish we had these earlier because I did not enjoy. Something felt lacking, whether that was not enough flavor from the intestines or the sauce did nothing to enhance the bite. It was my first time experiencing this unpleasant gritty taste from the insides, which I still remember the taste to this day! The prices were expensive, portions were not very shareable, but the food was better than other nearby Korean restaurants'. There was also a nice variety to eat! I went up the elevator to a pretty vacant restaraunt on a monday night. i made a reservation but i honestly didn't need to because there was only one table of customers when we went in. as we ate a few more parties came in but less than half of the room seemed filled. the staff are super nice and attentive. the bathroom is very clean. the spicy oil rice cakes tasted a bit grilled so the outside was slightly crunchy. Make sure you don't wait too long or else it'll stick to the pain and get burnt. The seaweed fritters were delicious as always. I was waiting for complementary side dishes but I guess they don't do it here. We also ordered japchae which was yums and the snowy cheese potato pancake. That was a bit too cheesy for me. The outside was a bit crunchy because and there's just texture when you bite into. It wasn't mozzarella corn dog pull type of cheesy but the flavor itself and texture was that of cheese. Was looking for a spot for late night Korean eats and found MUI. The decor and ambiance was very trendy and modern inside. My friend and I came on a Sunday night so there weren't too many people there. We ordered the spicy pork feet with tuna mayo rice balls and the clam soup to eat and makgeoli to drink. The pork feet was so good and had the perfect amount of spice and flavor. Truly enjoyed this dish with the tuna mayo rice balls. The clam soup was also a perfect complement to the pork feet and makgeoli but the broth was super spicy from the red peppers they put in there. I love spicy food so I didn't mind the heat, but even for me, it was definitely on the spicier side. Overall, I really liked the atmosphere of this place and The food we tried was really good. Mui had the worst customer service. My friends and I went for drinks, and when we arrived, the place was full with a short line. The hostess told us the wait would be two hours. I asked if the wait was the same for food and drinks, and she said yes. Since there wasn't really a line, we decided to wait because two hours seemed unreasonable. Then, we noticed that everyone being seated was Korean, even people who arrived after us. When we asked the hostess why, she claimed they had reservations, but we didn't see her checking anything. A group of Koreans walked in, and I asked if they had a reservation--they said no. Yet, they got seated before us. At that point, it was obvious we were being treated differently. When we confronted the hostess, she changed her excuse, saying it was because we only asked for drinks. But we had also said we were fine with ordering food. Plus, there was no designated "drinks-only" seating. It was clear what was going on, so we called it out and left. read more
