This, hands down, is my favorite ramen shop. Came by with my boyfriend after hearing about Kame for months and finally tried it out - omg so good! We ordered the spicy karaage and we each got the spicy tonkatsu. The broth is incredibly flavorful, the noodles are not overcooked, and they give generous slabs of pork belly. I was so full but had to get every last drop of the broth. Will definitely be back soon :)

It was my first time coming to NYC and I happened to come across a video of someone who tried Kame and I just had to try it. It did not disappoint! We got the spicy tonkotsu ramen and the spicy shrimp ramen. The seafood ramen had a coconut flavor to their broth that was amazing! Definitely spicy but not too spicy; it was tolerable. The flavor was there!! It's a cozy little spot and the waiters were really nice and attentive. We didn't make reservations and just walked in at around 5:10 p.m. and they had opened at 5:00 pm. It did start getting a little full after. We also ordered two of their famous appetizers which were also delicious. Hands down one of the best ramen dishes I have had! Will definitely come again if I'm ever visiting NYC!

Warming yourself up with a delicious bowl of ramen is always the answer to surviving a cold, dreary day. We visited Kame, a Japanese restaurant in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan, on a Saturday evening. Reservations are highly recommended on the weekends, especially for large groups. The restaurant is small and has a limited amount of seating. We were lucky and scored a table for two without any reservations. The ambiance is different from your traditional ramen shop. It has a sleek minimalist interior. The lighting is dark and dim with a vibe similar to a speakeasy or trendy lounge. They have LED lamps on the tables. The menu focuses on Japanese comfort food, with ramen being the star dish. They offer classics like gyoza, takoyaki, karaage, edamame, tonkotsu, and curry rice bowls. They also have a vegan menu. As for drinks, they serve beer, sake, wine, tea, and non-alcoholic refreshers. Ramen here will cost you around $19-$23, which is a bit hefty. BUT we're in NYC... so these prices are expected and reasonable for the area. We already had light bites & drinks beforehand, so we went straight for the ramen! We both ordered the Tonkotsu ($19), which included pork broth, noodles, braised pork belly, kikurage mushroom, scallions, black garlic oil, bamboo, and seaweed. You can customize your bowl with more toppings at an additional charge. We added an onsen egg (boiled in low temperature water to achieve silky, custard-like whites & a firm, creamy yolk) for $3. Service was quick and attentive from start to finish. As soon as our bowls were set on the table... I knew it was going to be a solid meal! The broth was rich and creamy with an intense pork flavor - super savory, but not overly salty. The black garlic oil was very aromatic and added some smoky flavor to the broth. There was a generous amount of pork belly - two large cuts! It was sooo tender and had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. It had just the right amount of fat and lean meat. The noodles were springy and bouncy, but could've been more al dente. The onsen egg and other toppings were fresh and complemented the strong flavors of the broth. Overall, it was a satisfying and comforting bowl of ramen! I was stuffed after eating mine. I absolutely loved the pork belly slices and tonkotsu broth. Although the price tag is a bit higher than other competitors, the quality of their ingredients justifies it. If you're in the area and craving ramen, you can't go wrong with dining here! There's a reason why the rating is high ;)

This was our first time trying this restaurant. The restaurant is very close to FIT, making it a great spot for college students. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. The dishes came out a decent time. We ordered ramen and really enjoyed it. Although the space is small, it wasn't busy when we visited during lunchtime. I would recommend making a reservation if you plan to go for dinner.

Kame Ramen is a top-tier ramen spot in Chelsea! We stopped by on a rainy Saturday, and the place was packed. The space is small, so be warned; the wait can get tricky since there's no official waitlist and it runs on an honor system. It's definitely easier for smaller parties to get seated faster. Despite the crowd, the staff handled everything with patience and genuine kindness. Service was quick once we sat down, and everyone working there kept things running smoothly. We tried the Tonkotsu Ramen, a rich and creamy pork broth with tender pork belly and black garlic oil, and the Shoyu Ramen, which had a lighter soy-based broth with shiitake mushrooms and bamboo. Both were outstanding. The only downside was the wait logistics, but the food and service made it completely worth it. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

For a small little place this serves some amazing food. I arrived a bit late and there was a line, but the greeter was quick to clear away a spot at the bar. Later I found out is is not just the host but also the waiter. I opted for the Spicy beef ramen and the Takayama which arrived pretty promptly. The Takoyaki had three squid balls with the fish flakes dancing all over which is a sight I always enjoy. The ramen though was the highlight!! Very very flavorful, though the beef was on the lighter side, but the broth and the noodles were really good. Great texture and flavor. This is going to be my new ramen spot in Chelsea

The Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen had pork belly that were large pieces, meaty and tasty. With so many ramen places in the City it is hard at times to know which one is worth checking out. Jeni and I had lunch here a few days ago. She likes bao and ordered the pork bun. This version had lots of creamy sauces on top which made it messy to eat. She still prefers the one at Ippoudo. With it she chose the Shoyu Ramen which she enjoyed. My ramen had an unusual flavor of the broth and it was spicy. Kame has been here for about six years and resembles a railroad apartment. The walls are grey and the atmosphere seems dark. Service was fine. Both cash and card are accepted. Two restrooms are in the back.

(Last visited July 21, 2023.) Working in New York City for the week and my co-worker said he was craving ramen or something of the sort. I did some Yelp'ing as I do and found Kame! Here's why I liked it so much! Atmosphere/Appearance: Set right on the corner of 8th Avenue & 28th Street is this gem. Obviously there isn't a parking lot, but there's plenty of street parking around and I'm sure there are multiple parking structures somewhere around. The original location opened in a different part of the city in 2020 and maintained strength until a leasing dispute forced them to move to where they are now! Inside is a modern, chic, simplistic atmosphere with excellent mood lighting and chill music with no words. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but she was sweet, patient, helpful and just made sure we were well taken care of. Food: I started with the beef bun and it was GOOD. It was so soft and flavorful. The meat wasn't as tender as I'd like, but it was okay! Just a hint of sweetness. The gyoza was AMAZING. Probably the best I've ever had with a different shape, crispy skin, succulent pork that definitely was made fresh in house. The fried chicken was also amazing. It had sesame seeds, peanuts and scallions all on top of its good crispy skin. Mild spiciness and sweetness. DELICIOUS. The Spicy Salmon Ramen was very good. There was a very slight fishy taste, but it didn't throw the whole dish off. The flavors worked well together and most importantly, the dish wasn't overly salty. Value: The beef buns are $6.00 each. The gyoza was $11.00 and you get 5 pieces. The fried chicken was also $11.00 and you get 4 chicken-thigh sized pieces. My ramen was $21.00. All in all, this place is adequately priced for sure and everything was well worth it. You can't have excellent quality food without paying for it. You feel me? I'd pay it all over again. In conclusion, I loved it here and I wish them much success! The restaurant is on the smaller side, so make reservations and make sure you check this place out!

So spicy so simple so delicious. Easy in and out. Sat at the bar - efficient no nonsense service which is great for the solo eater. Ramen was delicious and not overly abundant which is fine. Spice level - above average and enough to stimulate which is what I wanted after a long day at work. Plenty of meat and egg. Nice local joint and near the hotel. Definitely recommend. Fast and efficient service which is so NY. Will come again.

Got the shoyu ramen and the broth was delicious. Definitely recommend to someone looking for a solid ramen spot

I was able to taste just the 2 tonkatsu ramen (regular and spicy) and they were both solid. The pork belly melted in my mouth! Keep in mind that the spicy IS spicy indeed. Welcoming and kind service. Clean restrooms. Not crowded at lunch on a weekday but I get you need a reservation at dinner time. Recommended.

After attending an event at the nearby convention center, my boyfriend and I had a reservation at Kame. The interior has a nice dark ambiance but it was a bit ruined by the open entrance to the outdoors which let in cigarette smoke. We ordered the tonkotsu ramen and beef don. I liked the noodles in the ramen but the broth was too salty for me and although the pork belly was very tender, it was mostly fat. My boyfriend wasn't a fan of the beef don as he thought it was quite bland. There are definitely better ramen spots in the city, but Kame satisfied my ramen craving for now and did the job.

I just defaulted to Ichiran's suggested levels for everything which made it fast and easy. Once you're at your assigned cubbyhole, you can hang your coat up on the wall behind you and fill up your water cup at the machine also behind you. You don't even see the face of the person who brings out the ramen which gives the whole process a mysterious bank teller vibe. With all this, the classic tonkotsu ramen ($23) with slender noodles nearly gets overshadowed, but don't fret since it's fantastic. I believe when you're done, you just get up and leave. First - Tonkotsu (pork) ramen was perfectly balanced. The broth was deeply flavorful but not heavy, almost like an 80/20 hybrid of tonkotsu and shoyu (soy sauce) ramen. Noodles were springy and not overcooked, and the roasted pork had a slightly smoky flavor and was flavorful itself, not just protein and texture like many other ramen joints. We also had the edamame appetizer - super flavorful and addictive, and we wound up ordering a second one (for our party of four) after devouring the first one. Now here's why it's my favorite ramen restaurant- my favorite dessert is banana pudding, and Tonchin's signature Tokyo banana dessert is an elevated banana pudding that makes magnolia bakery look like amateur hour. Plenty of fresh banana and a carmelized banana on the side with a balanced pudding that's not too heavy - this is peak banana pudding. So it has my favorite ramen and favorite dessert. But can it do better? Yes. It can also have...my second favorite dessert! Tonchin has excellent shave ice desserts that reminded me of Korean bingsu. We had the strawberry and it was fresh, bright and had lots of strawberry flavor. Delightful. Service was excellent and the ambiance of the space is dark and elevated. The gyoza was cooked very nicely, came sizzling and the bun with meat was a little ugly, it looked boiled and unappetizing. The taste was just okay. The topping on it was notable. The restrooms are also clean. The staff members are also very kind and thoughtful. Just be careful--there is a slight step right at the entrance!

Cozy no-frills ramen bar near the theater district. I enjoyed a delicious, balanced bowl of Paitan…read moreramen ($19). No complaints, except that I guess I prefer Tonkostu (pork bone) over Paitan (chicken bone). I appreciated sitting at the bar to watch the lone ramen monger stir around the next batches of broth, hand-torching some chashu; boiling, whip-drying, and gently nestling my noodles, then manually laying out the toppings. The dish feels real, personal.

If you loved Totto's spicy paitan ramen like I did, look no further because Toribro has what you need. I only wish they offered the super spicy ramen with chili oil on the side like the good old days, but the standard spicy packs a punch too! The regular size ramen was plenty, but don't let that stop you from trying the decadent Mega with all of the toppings. The food came out hot and fast too, so my table of two was in and out in less than 45 minutes easily. The menu is pretty straightforward with few choices that are all delicious - a perfect spot for the quintessential quick bite and a fair price to match. Vibe-wise, this place is a true hole in the wall with steps leading down from street level into a basement. The inside is packed and intimate so I'd come with a small party such as a friend or a date who's into good food. There was no line when I visited on a Sunday at opening time, but it got packed quickly so be prepared to wait on the sidewalk or arrive at noon. As someone who's moved out of NYC years ago, I made an effort to visit Totto Ramen every time I come back and now Toribro has taken that spot in my itinerary.
