Amazing brunch / lunch spot in Bethlehem! Their scones are wonderful! They also have homemade jam and other baked goods you can purchase to go. The food is very homey and tasty. We were one of the first regulars at Jumbars many many years ago when they first opened. They have remained a consistently good breakfast spot in Bethlehem. It is by far a nice change from all the local greasy diners. There is nothing greasy about Jumbars, just quality homemade breakfast with fresh local ingredients. It's nice to see the whole family working there these days. Since I no longer live in the area it's been awhile since I've been in to Jumbars. I'm not a big fan of the new layout, there's less tables and they lost my two favorite spots by the window. However, the quality of the food remains the same. My favorite breakfast dish is the New England omlet, with cheddar, Granny Smith apples and housemate sausage. They have amazing triple berry muffins and sticky buns also! This place is amazing! It's super quaint and the food is great. Everything is homemade from the dishes, to the breads and desserts. I have been here a few times for lunch and finally made it for breakfast with my family. Place is small and there tends to be a wait, but it's well worth it. We waited 45 minutes for a table for 3. Once we were sat, the waitress brought over a fruit bowl (best I've had), since the wait was so long. Wow, what customer service! I had the French toast... freshly baked French bread... it was great. My mom and sister both had breakfast sandwiches which were delicious too. The star of the show though was the strawberry pie we had for dessert. It was a special for the day. My favorite part of my experience at Jumbars was the homemade english muffin and jams. We liked them so much we bought some of both to bring home all the way to Illinois. For my breakfast I had the Greek omelette which honestly was only okay. I thought it strange that they put tomatoes in it. Usually my Greek omelettes are only spinach and feta. and I don't really care for warm tomatoes unless they are sauced. Also I found their feta to be overly salty. Our daughter got the savory strata and I wish I had gotten that instead. It looked amazing! I will do that for sure next time. While I love the kitchy atmosphere of the place it is not great for large parties. Even parties of four can be troublesome. There are lots of tables for two but not too many for four and depending on how they have people seated it can be difficult to move the tables together to make for a larger group. They were very nice to our party of four though and asked a table of two to kindly move so they could push two table together to accommodate us. The hostess wasn't great but the waitresses were super friendly and made sure to keep our coffee cups full and hot. read more

Now this is the epitome of a hidden gem in Bethlehem. I doubt that many folks who live in the Lehigh Valley, let alone Bethlehem, have even heard of it. I really don't know why I don't come here more often considering it's a mere five minute walk from me. The food and service has always been consistently great. It can get crowded here on the weekends for breakfast but there's usually no wait for a table. You don't even have to wait to be seated. Just come in and plop down. How easy is that? The inside is definitely a bit cramped but it most definitely has a warm feeling to it. Patrons seem to know each other so that automatically promotes a homey feeling. The kitchen is a tad slow when I was last there but that's probably because the place was really hopping. The food is really good here. Portions are average size. Sandwiches tend to run on the small side, but it's very good and made with quality ingredients. The chef does some creative things with his dishes, so definitely check out the daily specials. They also have a nice array of baked goods at the counter if you care to indulge your sweet tooth. Overall, a great place for great food. Check it out sometime. read more

At home, I'm pretty serious about eating sustainable, organic, and in season food. I cook everything or we go out to eat at one of the many options in Seattle that offer organic, sustainable food. I live in Seattle now but I'm from the Lehigh Valley - whenever I visit my parents in the LV, I'm always frustrated at the lack of options here. My mom has told me about this place several times, but I just finally got a chance to check it out today. First, I was shocked to find out they've been around for 9 years and I just now tried it out. Did I like it? Well, I went three times in one week! Also finding good coffee in the Valley sorely lacking, I LOVED the coffee here. I contemplated stopping in a few extra times to see if they'd give me a to-go cup. The food was all good, particularly during brunch. I've been there during brunch when I snagged the ONLY table available and during a slower time. I had no problems with service during any of those times. I truly appreciate what they're doing - the Valley DESPERATELY NEEDS more places that care about & use organic, in season, sustainable ingredients. It is a bit cramped, true - but honestly, if you go to any big city, these types of places are easily found and the style is to be all quaint, small, and cramped. (Good god, try Dottie's True Blue in San Francisco? Or Sabrina's or Sam's Morning Glory in Philadelphia? Or any number of places here in Seattle. SMALL, CRAMPED. It's just the way it is.) I was pleased to see that they always had a pretty good turn out. This is my new go-to place when I'm in town. Ah - the one food item that stands out: My husband has been craving a good Reuben sandwich, since they just don't do it right on the West Coast. Drug my husband here thanks to a recent Groupon offer...the Saturday before Valentine's Day, and it was packed! They were offering a V Day special (two starters - think muffin or granola, two mains, two non alcoholic drinks) for $15pp...and they'd throw in a free mimosa (gotta love state liquor laws!) Despite it being packed, I think they earned that 5th star. We both forwent the special...I went with the hot ham & cheese (with pineapple on challah...woah, baby, good!) that came with a few slivers of potato (really, just slivers, but that's okay). My husband ordered a grilled muffin (a bit corny for me, but he thought it was the best thing ever) and a slice of quiche. We were very pleased to find Jumbars within a short drive from our hotel. Vegan brunch can be a bit tough to come by so when we say they had a tofu scramble, we got our asses moving to get a couple seats. Jumbars is a quirky place. The place feels like you're in someone's living room. The space between tables is tight (still walkable) and the mugs they give you for coffee are all different kinds. It's nice that a place has personality, especially when it comes to breakfast. They have a large chalkboard on the wall listing the specials and the staff couldn't be sweeter. We ordered the tofu scramble, vegan chili and the quiche of the day. I opted for the quiche because it had apple and a housemade sage sausage. The quiche was really quite good and the cheese added in the richness of the dish. The vegan chili was also tasty. It was a hearty little cup and they served it with some tortilla chips for sopping up the sauce. I wasn't wowed by the tofu scramble but I did appreciate that they had it and my girlfriend was able to find a vegan breakfast option. The potatoes that came with it however were top notch. We didn't have a long wait, about 15 minutes. We must have arrived just at the right time because after we sat, there was quite a wait forming. Since this is outside of the walkable downtown area, it seems like this is a locals spot and they all showed up at the same time wanting their brunch. Honestly a bit underwhelmed. Saw all the great reviews here on Yelp and went in with pretty high expectations. Only did take-out and for such a small place with as many customers as they had, they were pretty quick. Ordered a bacon egg and cheese on white English muffin. They say their English muffins are homemade and it tasted like it. The sandwich itself was good but nothing special. I also had a sticky bun and a berry muffin, both of which I was disappointed in. I was thinking it would be like a cinnamon roll, which might be my fault in terms of wrong expectations. The bun had a sticky, glaze on top, and raisins inside. Most of the sweetness seemed to come from the raisins, which I wish there were more of, as I definitely was looking for something sweeter. The berry muffin was okay, but in addition to blueberries, there were others that I didn't recognize the taste of and didn't really care for. Since I'm not too familiar with berries beyond the mainstream varieties (straw, blue, black and rasp.), I probably should have asked what was in it before I got it. Overall, definitely went in hoping for something more. I definitely see how a lot of people could love this place, as it's certainly a far cry from a standard quick, breakfast place. Definitely looks like plenty of unique options that people loved, and I might if I go there again. Had a late breakfast here the other day and as always it was absolutely delicious. All of the baked goods are baked on the premises and you can definitely tell the difference. Their muffins are warm and moist. They also make their own jam. I've been here several times and always order the quiche, every kind I've tried has been amazing. So I most likely wouldn't consider returning here, but it wasn't a bad choice overall. I came to see two close friends for the first time since being back in PA, so really the meal could have been served to me on the ground and I would have still been ecstatic. Oh how I missed them! Anyways, upon entering, the space was quaint and tiny but nothing exceptional. They do, however, have a wonderful little jam/jelly display in the back to add to any of their homemade scones. We tried the cranberry orange variety, and while I would've preferred the savory options this particular morning, the buttery, triangle of dough was a wonderful choice, especially with strawberry preserves added on the side. I went with the omelette special, which included white grits, bacon, and a delicious tomato jam all enrobed in the eggs. The grits were an oddly delicious addition to the mix, and the tomato jam had a wonderfully sweet tang. The meal itself was tasty, but it was just missing something. The main problem here is when I think of brunch, I just end up craving a certain establishment in West Reading (cough cough it starts with Tom). Again, not a bad choice, just nothing to write home (or to Yelp in this instance) about. read more

OK. It was Sunday morning, but we expected a wait. 15-20 minutes was the hostess' estimate, so we said yes. And it was 15-20 min as stated, so no problems. At least another party of 2 (same as us) was waiting, and a party of 4. We were seated before the former, and after the latter. In proper order. We were given menus, drinks were ordered (coffee), and within about 5-10 minutes we placed our orders. Nothing from the specials menu, nothing with "special requests", just off-the-menu items. Then we waited. And waited. Coffees were refilled. We were visited 2x by 2 different servers total during that time. We had enough refilled coffee that we used all the cream, asked for more, and that took like 10 minutes and 2-3 awkward stares. Cut to the chase, after at least an hour of sitting and no word on our food, we noticed other tables receiving their orders. Including the party of 2 seated NEXT TO US who were seated AFTER US. They were actually finishing their meals when we finally got up and left. A server looked confused by our exit (I dropped $5 for the coffee - I'm not a thief) and I just gave her the "cut" hand motion under my chin. We saw almost 4 tables seated after us eating, and one SEATED AFTER US already asking for their check. NOW, it happened to be our 18th wedding anniversary morning. And we are not regulars, but we happen to eat - together or my wife with her friends - at this place each month or two. But we will NEVER go to this business again, and I do not want a reply here because I don't CARE what was wrong. It's inexplicable, and no apologies were offered - not even bad excuses (sick cook, backed up, out of some item, burned it the first time) - NOTHING. Bye-bye Jumbars. BTW, we went to another favorite Bethlehem eatery, it now being almost Noon, where there's usually a wait for a table on a weekday - seated immediately, order, served, ate, paid: under 40 minutes. It saved the anniversary (and quite honestly, their dishes looked more tasty, and rang my flavor bell a lot harder). That was the silver lining I guess. read more

Delicious fresh food! Some of the best homemade English muffins you'll ever eat! The Spanish omelet is divine, scones are handmade, fresh fruit salad is amazing! Blackberries, strawberries, pears, apples, pineapple, grapes all hand cut. Nice tea selection. Portions aren't too big that you'll want to take a nap or not be able to move afterward but big enough that you'll be satisfied. Very small and street parking only. Fun, cute, colorful, unique...just to sum up Jumbars breakfast. Nothing typical here, and they do everything (so far) pretty well. Been here 3 times and have had a homerun experience 3 outa 3 times with fun specials each time like pumpkin pancakes, savory strata with sausage gravy(mushroom available as well if you prefer), awesome tofu breakfast statute, great quiche choices, and you gotta love the duffin. Fun fiesta wear colorful plates, mugs, etc. The service is always pleasant and they keep the very good coffee coming. Unique jam and hot sauce choices as well as a good homemade baked goods selection to take on the road. It's very tight seating but its got a fun lively feel that you want for breakfast. Went in to grab lunch with my mom the other day, because Jumbar's comes highly recommended by everyone you talk to! It's a tiny little restaurant, but it works. There are little cafe tables and beautiful art on the walls. They sat us right away, and it took us longer to order than it did for the food to arrive. We split a cheddar-bacon scone, and then my mom had the Mary's salad (which she loved) and I had the Greenwich Street Special. Everything was great. The only negative thing I would say is that the condiments are self-serve in the back of the restaurant, and I had to squeeze in between the counter & a gentleman who was eating his lunch at a table a foot away. And then when someone else came, we were bumping into each other. That was a little awkward, but I can deal with that to get the great food! read more

Even though they were incredibly busy, all staff were kind and hardworking to do to-go orders and take care of everyone in the store as well! The food at Jumbars is totally worth 5 stars. Unfortunately the service doesn't quite make the 5-star rating. You definitely need to allow yourself at least an hour or more for breakfast on the weekends, and that's if you get there early. Like the menu suggests, start with a wonderful grilled muffin (I suggest the corn muffin with Jack cheese and a large dollop of homemade pepper jelly) and then take your time enjoying it. It will take quite a while for your breakfasts to arrive. But no worries, because it is the best breakfast in town. The house made sausage is extraordinary. The specials are always quite tasty and have never disappointed. Just make sure you ask if they have any additional specials not listed. They don't rush you (quite the contrary) though the throngs of waiting diners will most likely make you want to eventually vacate your table. read more

Okay. First off I am the number one supporter of sustainable organic and I really wanted to love this place; however, there was nothing absolutely fabulous about Jumbars. Granted I did just have an omelette so maybe the sweeter entrees were to die for. Nevertheless this place was sub par and the service made it a two star rating for me. Our waitress wasn't very friendly and did not provide good customer service. If you want to get a seat without the wait, I definitely recommend calling ahead 15 minutes before to get a table. While they don't take reservations, they will call you and let you know when a table is available which is pretty awesome, especially for the claustrophobic type because the waiting area is really tight. It's especially useful on Sundays because any breakfast place in town worth going to is going to be packed. Lastly, in my opinion, if you want a great breakfast place in Bethlehem, go for Blue Sky Cafe or Horns (Horns serves breakfast Saturday mornings only): both have the sights of downtown, sustainable and relatively healthy options, and awesome, friendly service. read more
