Jugem - Omelette Curry and Tonkatsu Curry - Japanese Curry Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

This was the best Chicken Katsu Curry I have ever had. Worth a stop when you are in Honolulu. You won't leave disappointed as it is that good! I wish I had this place locally by me because it was that good. Worth a trip from whichever part you are in! read more

Its a small hole in the wall place, looks like a local family restaurant. Surprisingly food was good. I think its not premade, they make it was its ordered. Curry was yummy. Not too many seatings but good food and very friendly service. read more

Jugem has changed a lot over time, but it does fried food and curry right. They used to have an awesome dessert, but they got rid of it. The oatmilk latte is really good. I like blueberry the most. The curry pan is HOT but so good. Made to order. Takoyaki fries were new. They look like Takoyaki, but are made with potato. Pretty good, but not my favourite. The calamari here is perfect. Not overcooked, not too much batter, not too thin. One of my favourite calamari. As for the store, it could use a face-lift. I don't even remember music. If there was, it was soft. The smell of oil could be off-putting, but the food is good. Get takeout if you are bothered. Very good food and service. read more

Curry for life...that's what the name of my secret club would be! Jugem offers their special curry that is their secret recipe rediscovered by descendants in 2021. They have a great description of the meaning of the name and the origin on their menu. This is not your typical boxed curry like S&B, more of a rich traditional curry you'll find in Japan. You'll find beef, carrots, potatoes, OG spices in it. FOOD: 1) Gave creamy corn/Mac salad to start us off 2) Coedo Special Curry ($29.99) This was the best value for the money! You get a generous sample of different Katsu items. Came with cutest curry gravy boat. My favorite were the Fried Oysters from Hiroshima. Other included, Fried Shrimp, Tonkatsu, Fried Spam, Dumplings. All really tasty! Definitely fried heaven if you're into Katsu everything. The kind lady even gave us extra curry for our meal too! 3) Jumbo Curry Cheese Pan ($7.99) Wow! This was surprisingly really good. Three different cheeses with curry inside...fried...how could you not like it? Haha, I probably need to go running after this whole meal before I get a heart attack. Hehe. 4) Sapporo Draft ($3.99) Always great on draft and cheap! Service was great! Two hardworking ladies in the back. Very sweet and attentive. Small place with about limited tables. Recommend making a reservation via Yelp if coming during busy hours. There is street parking, otherwise you can park in the paid lot behind. Cons: Sadly, our Tonkatsu was over cooked and chewy. Just keep in mind that It is a very heavy and oily meal, since it's mostly fried foods! read more

Went here for lunch and had a lovely meal. Located on King Street with street parking right up front or park in their stalls directly in the back. We were the only ones in the restaurant for the entire time, so our service was efficient. A couple of booths and seats throughout the quaint shop. But I feel for the shop owners who had to chase out homeless people and weird people coming off the bus and into their store asking for scraps of food. As for the food, authentic is the best way I can describe it. There's no fillers, the meal was hearty, but the curry itself was a little too runny and a little bland for my liking (I usually like a thicker curry). As for their side dishes, they were yummy. Note that the Crab Cream Croquette can be ordered ala carte if you wish. Also the hot tea comes with free refills. Comfort food and its best! read more

Delicious curry sauce and great katsu. Parking is easy at the back. Highly recommend.

This place is a hidden gem that deserves more business. I believe it is family owned, and they are always happy and smiling when you walk in. Service is extremely fast paced and fantastic. So fast it feels like they are pushing you to leave sometimes (it is a small location) although I'm sure you could sit a while if you wanted. The atmosphere feels very cutsie and at warm. They make their curry daily so it can vary from day to day (although it is quite consistent). I would describe it as a Japanese curry with more heat/spice. While this curry is not the pinnacle of curry, it is still quite delicious! That, accompanied by the wonderful service gives you reason enough to stop by! They also give you a card that offers a free drink every 5 meals and a free curry every 10! (see pic) Food breakdown: Cream sodas: thus far these have varying quality and are are quite tart. I would recommend the mango one, avoid the melona one. Will update later once i have tried more of them. Tofu coedo curry: the tofu is pan fried and contains carrrots and corn. It is my favorite and the crunchy exterior of the tofu really compliments the currys texture. Unlike many tofu currys that just add tofu in such as curryhouse in alamoana. Egg coedo curry: is what you would expect, although the egg is prepared more in a japanese style so it has a wetter, softer texture. Jumbo Cheese Curry Pan: the surprise here is how flaky and crunchy the exterior is, I believe they use panko. read more

Had lunch here yesterday. The setting is your typical "hole in the wall." The service was good. This place was all about simple curry, nothing fancy, just good. I had the "spam fry" curry, my wife had the tonkatsu curry and my daughter had the curry udon. The curry sauce for all 3 were the same, japan3se curry with a bit of ground beef, carrots and potatoes. My wife thought the tonkatsu was a bit tough. Other than that, everything was good. If you just want a good, low fanfare curry meal, I would recommend this place. read more

Jugem - Japanese Curry Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Aaahhh no worry cause it's Coedo Curry! Jugem serves up Japanese style Coedo Curry and lucky us as it's no ordinary curry and sure it's all a secret recipe but whatever it is it's absolutely amazing! I initially have seen them at random outdoor markets until I realize they actually have a restaurant woohoo!! Not just the curry but the staff is Japanese as well who's just delightfully friendly and their menu resonates a cool combination of Japanese curry and some local favorites like Spam Fry, Garlic Shrimp and even Gyoza curry! Noticing their menu I saw they had Oyster Curry, with oyster from Hiroshima which they're known for and my mom's hometown I knew that I had to get it for her and this was back in October when they had it on special I ordered one to go and surprised her with it. Packed up with such care the oyster in the separate container she instantly went into a trance and was eating it deconstructed as it was packed...well let's say that she loved it! Fast forward to more visits in January and yup she still gets the Oyster Curry lol! I've had the Curry Udon since I'm unable to get anything fried here for cross contamination reasons my choices are limited but nothing that I didn't like as everything here is just so flavorful. This latest visit I noticed how much they expanded their menu adding Garlic Shrimp, Deep Fried Horse Mackerel, Tofu, Ramen, Crab Cream Croquette, Jumbo Squid and what I got this day Omelette Curry...my only other option besides that would've been Ramen and as much as I love my noods I had to try the Omelette. Light and fluffy scrambled eggs (how I love my eggs btw) covered the perfectly cook dome of white rice with a generous serving of curry was a food coma ready to happen bite after bite a bit of rice and eggs scooping some curry it was just the perfect perfect dish. Ooohhh ya you know mom enjoyed her oysters cooked just perfectly so much leaving her speechless and noted on the menu "If you want Fukujinzuke and Scallion, let us know" as Fukujinzuke is a standard side item for Japanese curry and is free though I don't do the scallion which is pickled it's too intense for me. Parking in the back is paid after 5pm so I do go earlier to avoid that nonsense or just come down on Sundays where street parking is free all day, the vibe here is super casual...oyster, udon or omelette curries the variety they have here will certainly bring that spice you've been missing in your life. Thank you! read more

Outstanding friendly service, & great tasting food is an easy equation for a five star rating on Yelp!!!! What restaurant am I talkin' about??? "Jugem" my friends......... I'm been longing for Japanese curry recently, and towards the end of 2022 I was trying to meet up with my homie - Gary T. for some Japanese curry at - Curry House at the McCully Shopping Center. My friend Gary got to the restaurant before me, and texted me (at that time) that the restaurant was only doing "take-out", and that there was no dining in (due to the Covid-19 pandemic). Our plans were shattered, and we ended up going to another restaurant to get our Japanese curry fix. Fast forward to 2023, as I've seen a few of my Yelp buddies - Bruddah Brian M., Bruddah Daniel C., da FAMOUS Auntie - Nadine C., Kristina C., Bruddah Craig T., Deborah P. & Gabriel P., & da unofficial mayor of Chinatown - Bruddah Paul C. all come here, and they wrote some fabulous reviews on Yelp, and posted some great pics! Shoots den'! I go chance 'em!!!! Upon making reservations through Yelp, I secured a 6:15PM time on a Friday evening. The restaurant is on the smaller size, so I can see why reservations are recommended. Of course Jugem specializes in Japanese curry, and I must say they do an excellent job with the items they offer here. After looking over the menu, I decided to get the Oyster Curry (I bet you folks thought I was gonna get da Frrrrrried Chicken Curry? Lol!), and my friend Gary got da Shrimp Curry. Both our meals came with a side of potato salad & corn. What can I say about our meals? AWESOME-Sauce!!! Tasty Japanese curry, just da way I like it! And my deep fried Oysters were done perfectly! As I bit into my piping hot oysters, it was so juicy!!! My only wish is that I had an addition (5) more oysters! Lol! As for my friend's Shrimp Curry, his plate looked awesome too! He said it was very good! Thanks to my Yelp buddies for posting their awesome reviews & pics! Looks like I found a new favorite place for Japanese curry! Yum! Yum! read more

Amazing food and service. Best curry katsu on Oahu! If you can believe it, they REFILL your curry sauce mix endlessly! We got the Big Curry Mix Plate and it includes shrimp, oysters, choice of pork or chicken. It was a HUGE plate and they kept refilling our curry sauce. Even my son went up to the counter and told the owner, he gives their food a 5/5***** 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND! read more

Really recommend this place when you're in the area. I went a little before noon and I was able to get street parking right out front. I ordered the Jugem social that's comes with deep fried oyster, shrimp, spam, dumpling and tonkatsu with deep rich curry and rice. we also added an extra side of curry and oyster because all the reviews were talking about the oysters. It ended up being a good idea to get extra side of curry cause in my opinion it wasn't enough for everything, but that's just me cause I like to cover everything with curry. My faves were the tonkatsu hands down! I wasn't a big fan of the oysters in my opinion, but everything else was super good! And the price is very reasonable. I also got the raspberry matcha latte with oat milk and it was also super good. The raspberry and matcha taste was evenly well matched and the oat milk just made it nice and creamy. read more

Jugem located along South King St and Keeaumoku next to Eastern Paradise Restaurant. Limited street parking. We did a phone order for takeout. Did a stop, drop, and pickup at the restaurant. Seems quite busy when I went. Small restaurant with a few tables. Ordered a few things to try out. - Jumbo Curry pan $7 - a palm size deep fried toast. This cheese curry was pretty tasty and a little bit salty. It was freshly made, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. More on the oily side. This was my only favorite here. - Curry udon $10 - Chewy and small portion. The curry was pretty simple with small bits of meat, carrots, and potatoes that you can hardly see. A bit salty. - Fried popcorn chicken $7- just a handful of chicken. Very small pieces of chicken which was crispy but tasted ok. - Tonkatsu curry $16- the tonkatsu was tender and juicy. Prefer to eat it by itself than with curry. I usually like the Japanese potato/mac salad. But this one was just okay. If I do come back, it would be for the jumbo pan only. read more

Fantastic authentic Japanese curry spot. Inside is small, humble, and probably fits about 4 or 5 parties of 2. Please make a reservation. Food came out fast. Can't go wrong with anything here, however you must have the curry pan!! We ate half there, and ate half cold in the morning. Oh man let me telllll you - having it cold was phenomenal!!! I appreciated them having melon cream soda. It was delicious and authentic. Highly recommend this local spot. The location was a little sketchy for me (I'm not a local), so I would recommend getting dropped off. read more

No worry, beef curry! Ah, Jugem, you never disappoint. If you're in the mood for Japanese style curry, this is your place. The small little shop right off of King Street has many selections of curries mixed with different proteins. My favorite is the oyster curry. You get five plump and juicy oysters over rice. So good. The Coedo curry with spam katsu is also a winner! They get pretty busy during lunch service so my pro tip would be either go early around 10:30 in the morning or later around 2pm. They have plenty of free parking in the back of the restaurant. The staff is so very friendly and as you can see they leave a little notes on my takeout box. This is one of my go to curry places. read more

Jugem on King Street is a solid spot for Japanese coedo curry, but I wouldn't say it blew me away. We tried the fried chicken curry and the curry pan, and while both were good, they didn't feel super special The fried chicken curry was satisfying - tender chicken with a nice crunch, and the curry itself was flavorful, but it didn't have that extra something to make it stand out. It was enjoyable, but I wasn't wowed Now, the curry pan... super crispy and perfectly fried, but definitely on the oily side. It almost reminded me of a grilled cheese with just a hint of curry inside. Tasty, but I was expecting a bit more curry flavor to shine through The place itself is pretty small, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but just keep in mind you might need to wait during peak times. Overall, it's a good spot if you're craving some comfort curry, but I wouldn't say it's a must-visit read more

My husband I finally tried Jugem. We've been wanting to try it for months. We came in on a Sunday. We made reservations as we know it can get very busy. Plus, the restaurant is very small. We parked on the street right in the front of their neighbor, Sasabune. When we arrived at 6:15, the restaurant was empty. We were greeted immediately and had a choice to pick out seating. The menu is perfect. I like that there are pictures of the different dishes. I order the vegetable croquette curry and a lychee cream soda. My husband had chicken katsu curry. I must say hands down the best curry ever. The curry brings back childhood memories of family dinners. My dish, portion wise, was huge. There were 2 good sized croquettes, cooked to golden perfection. The curry was delicious; cooked to perfection, so tasty. There were chunks of potato and carrot in the curry, so good!!! My husband had the chicken katsu curry. Another huge portioned plate. The chicken pieces are large and cooked perfectly. While eating we both got sides of pickled vegetables and was given extra curry for free, That was a clutch moment. I absolutely loved the lychee cream soda. It was so refreshing. Definitely making this place a weekly go to. Oh, this place is closed on Tuesdays. read more

Oh my curry! This place is so good. The only reason I knew about it is because a fellow Elite yelper who I follow wrote about it recently. They're located on the corner of Keeaumoku and S. King St., right where the bus stops and next to a beauty shop called Eunice's. It's on the right side of Sasabune, which may be a better landmark. There's supposedly a parking lot in the back, but I was able to find metered street parking. This is a little hole-in-the-wall with maybe 8 tables inside. I arrived around 11am for lunch and there were already people inside, so I can see how it can get busy. They specialize in Japanese curry, so if that's your jam then head on over! You won't be disappointed. They have a varied menu and prices are on par with other curry shops. I ordered the Coedo Curry with Jumbo Frank for $16.99. It was a decent size and I ate almost all of it! The curry sauce is to die for! If you know your curry, then you know this is legit. The jumbo frank was jumbo! I cut it into small pieces and added it to my curry, and wow! Major yum. It also comes with a scoop of rice and a small dish of potato salad/corn/Japanese pickles. The curry took about 15 minutes to arrive to my table. There were two ladies working behind the counter - one cooking and the other serving. The server was friendly and efficient. The inside of the restaurant appeared clean. I'll definitely return in the near future! read more

Jugem Coedo Curry is a Japanese Curry eatery located in a multi business building on the corner of King and Keeaumoku Street. If you love your Japanese curry and need that fix, this is the place. I stopped in to pick up lunch and got the Shrimp Curry Plate. The plate came with six pieces of shrimp, takuwan, Kimchee and potato salad. The Curry had a little heat to it, but not overly spicy hot. I enjoyed that Japanese curry flavor, it reminded me of Japan, darn I want to go back to Japan after eating this. The wait is about 15-20 minutes to prepare your order. They are very polite and I didn't mind the wait. Calling in your take out is recommended as there is only 2-3 staff members working. So Jugem use to only have pop ups at events but recently they opened their own restaurant which I was pretty excited about. This is the newest curry spot on Oahu featuring Coedo style curry They are located on 1407 South King St. with street parking in the front. This Japanese style curry was delicious and most importantly comes with chunks of veggies which I prefer. It's definitely a cozy meal to enjoy. We tried Jugem for dinner tonight! What a great place! If you haven't tried here, check it out. It's a cute little place by Sushi Sasabune on King Street. If you're lucky, you can find street parking right in front of the restaurant. If not, they have a lot in the back. The lot is paid parking so you have to scan a QR code to pay for parking. Comes out to $1.10 an hour and then they charge you an additional 70 cents. Jugem serves Japanese curry with all kinds of toppings. My husband got the tonkatsu curry, I got the fried chicken curry, and my daughter got the kids meal. The service was great. The lady was attentive from the beginning. There were only two people working and the one lady was working hard to service all the customers. She was a nice happy lady who you could tell she loved working there. All of us loved our curry. My daughters kids meal came with a fried chicken, gyoza, rice and curry. She also had the appetizers too (potato salad and corn). My fried chicken was in cute little bite size pieces and it was very tasty. My husband liked his and he ran out of curry. You can ask for more curry and they will bring it to you. The lady brought him out a small gravy serving bowl full of more to finish him off. Very good service and very good meal. And the prices are very affordable. Three of us for about $40. We will definitely come back again. read more

***4.5 STARS *** When scrolling on the Yelp app on your mobile phone, we call come across "Hot New Business" and many times my friends will discuss about them. Several weeks ago, Auntie (Nadine C.) brought Jugem to my attention and after reviewing their business page, they got my attention. Located near the corner of S King St. and Keeaumoku St. (Diamond Head, Makai side), Jugem opened in Sept 2022 and offers Coedo curry that dates to 1897. Coedo is the nickname for Kawagoe, a city in Saitama Prefecture which is off Tokyo. If you want to eat Japanese style curry, make your way here. I ended up trying Jugem with a couple of Yelp friends and a buddy of mine. We came here for dinner on a weekday night. Street parking is tricky on S King St. at 6pm so we paid for parking that's located behind the restaurant. The restaurant is quite small and dingy with a dark atmosphere but homey with simple décor and the smell of curry and oil. On the night we went it was a 2-person team serving the dine-in tables as well as handling take out orders. The menu here is simple - curry. It's served with rice, udon noodles, or bread with multiple options for protein. After glancing at their menu and limited food pics, I ended with the curry rice with oysters and shared the curry pan with Auntie. It didn't seem long before the food arrived as we used the waiting time discussing other new businesses as well as upcoming events. The food arrived and we took turns snapping photos and now it was time to dig in. THE VERDICT: Overall, Jugem offers traditional, home-style curry with bits of meat, potato, carrot, and onion with rice. It was a decent portion with sides of fukujinzuke (red pickles), rakkyo (sweet, pickled shallot) and potato/mac salad. To my palate, the curry was mild and flavorful, but I would have preferred more spice. My oysters were your typical commercialized premade frozen oysters that I've had before, and it was good, but the food temperature could have been hotter. On the other hand, the curry pan was delivered piping hot, and I truly enjoyed this. It had a nice crispy exterior and the gooey cheese and Japanese curry in the bread was delicious. The staff came to check up on us and realized my sauce boat didn't have much curry left and asked if I wanted a complimentary serving of curry gravy which I gladly accepted. The interior is quite dark with interesting décor. It had artificial plants with birds here and there. I do like the hominess of this restaurant but could use a paint job to give the restaurant a bright and welcoming atmosphere. Overall, a decent first experience at Jugem where I would return. There menu options are quite limited, so I hope they expand their menu and I'll be sure to get the curry pan again. read more

Was searching for Japanese curry and found this place. The service was very friendly and accommodating ( although our waters were never refilled). The vibe of this restaurant is like eating at your auntie's house in Japan. Onto the food! We started with a little bowl of takuan , potato salad, and corn. Everybody gets this at the beginning of their meal. Everything in that bowl was great. The potato salad has relish in it, which made me wonder if they made it themselves or purchased it. Nonetheless, it was good. We ordered the curry and kimchi plate and the curry and Katsu plate. All the curry is the same and you can add various kinds of fried items to it. The curry is mild and delicious. Unfortunately, I didn't get any meat in mines and just half a potato. The sauce itself was delicious. Kimchi tasted like Palama market.. The Katsu was super thick like the kind you get from a restaurant focused on tonkatsu. It was tender and juicy and crispy on the outside. Very impressive! We also tasted the pan. You've probably seen pictures of it in yelp. It's winners! They have a good amount of drink options, including a $3.99 Sapporo on tap. Definitely will be coming back and bringing friends. read more

We ordered - curry pan: very good, one of the best I've had. - giant frank curry: bf and I agreed this was better than the tonkatsu. the frank was flavorful -tonkatsu curry: pretty standard They also bring you a small dish of pickled vegetables, corn and potato salad. I wish they gave more pickled vegetables to eat with the curry. With our curry order you also get a more free curry one time. Which I did get to finish my rice. Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... My lunch buddy, Dear Daniel, alerted us to a Hot New Business: Jugem Located next to Eastern Paradise on King Street, this cozy Japanese curry shop has a paid parking lot behind it. Enter the parking lot from either King Street or Keeaumoku Street. Reservations are available online, but we just walked in before the crowd came. Luckily, we got a table for four when the other few tables were occupied. I saw the Kids Meal (and the cute kitty bowl) and asked if I could order that... Yes! It had a fried dumpling, a deep fried battered shrimp, rice, corn, and curry. I'm glad that I had a small serving of curry because it was on the spicy side for me. I also shared an order of Coedo Curry Pan - which was just right. It had crunchy panko on the outside with cheesy curry on the inside of the fried sandwich. Mmm! I didn't like that paid parking where a QR code is scanned. I also wished that the air conditioning was stronger - I was melting. However, the service was super polite, welcoming helpful, and friendly. The decor - especially the ceramic cat dispensers - was kawaii! read more
