WOW!!! This is a small establishment that seat 28 people max. There is a parking lot behind the restaurant. The staff is friendly and the food came our fairly quick. The curry sauce is rich and delicious! I ordered the chicken katsu curry and added the fluffy egg on top. The portion is perfect, the eggs are cooked like a soft scramble. If you aren't used to seeing the egg whites still undercooked, you may want to forgo the fluffy egg. Overall, I loved this place and look forward to returning and trying different entrees on the menu.
I first visited Jugem when they opened several years ago. They specialize in Coedo Curry which includes beef in it's roux - and as I was a vegetarian for a short time- I had to avoid them for a couple of years. I ordered their Curry Udon this afternoon...for a late lunch / early dinner. Add-on of tonkatsu or chicken katsu. Also, don't sleep on their katsu. Waited about twelve minutes after walking in and requesting takeaway. Curry, udon, and tonkatsu were all excellent. On the corner of South King St. and Ke'eamoku St. Open 1000a to 800p daily. Street metered parking but they have a shared parking lot with a one way entrance on King an an exit on Ke'eamoku.
Stop by for lunch today with hubby. Very friendly and welcoming. We had the whole place to ourselves. There was a little toy on the table to keep ourselves busy while waiting for the food. He got the tonkatsu curry and I ordered the hamburger steak with cheese curry. Initially the curry looked little but it was just right amount of curry and rice. We really filled out bellies up. Server mentioned, we can get a free refill of curry (one time only) but we were already happily stuffed. Would definitely be back with our kiddies.
Jugem is a hidden gem. It's a small hole-in-the-wall spot, and while parking looks impossible at first, there's actually convenient parking behind the shops. My grandma is from Japan, and the moment I walked in, I felt nostalgic. The atmosphere feels just like being at her house, warm and cozy. Even better, the food tastes exactly how she used to make it. I usually order the kids curry, which comes with one dumpling, two pieces of karaage, curry and rice, plus potato salad and sweet corn. The potato salad especially brought me right back to my grandma's kitchen. We also ordered the popcorn chicken, which was perfectly crispy, and my boyfriend had the hamburger cheese curry. The hamburger tasted just like the ones I've had in Japan. Everything here is authentic. The staff are friendly, the food comes out quick, and the whole experience is comforting from start to finish. I can't wait to make Jugem one of our regular spots!
Came on Fathers' Day for late lunch/early dinner. There was a big group that was wrapping up, and a family who was waiting for their takeout order. We ordered a chicken katsu curry, crab croquette curry, curry udon, and matcha latte. Food came quite quickly. The chicken katsu was really crispy yet tender, my crab croquette was also very crispy outside but creamy inside. The curry is a tad more intense than the other Japanese curries I've had, and the meat looks ground instead of cubed/shredded. The rice is light and fluffy! Perfect for mixing with the curry. The matcha latte was ok. At least it wasn't cloyingly sweet. At first glance the portions don't look big but it was an appropriate size for a person with normal appetite! Given that we had a late breakfast, we were full. Service was prompt and friendly. There were only three working that day; two were in the kitchen and one was serving, bussing, and cashing people out. It's a little cafe, very homey/mom-and-pop. They also sell tshirts! I didn't look very closely but I saw a Crayon Shinchan one. We parked on the street coz it was free and there were plenty open stalls at the time. I want to try their curry pan next! And also their Happy Hour! 2pm-5pm weekdays.
I finally visited Jugem with my boyfriend, sister and brother-in-law. Everyone was a fan! The staff were kind enough to offer us extra curry for free! The free curry was in the cutest gravy boat. This local business on King Street is unassuming from the outside, but feels like home inside. Cute interior, plenty of seating and even fun games while you wait! The menu is rather extensive and the prices are fair. The curry is delicious! Best I've had on island. The food is cooked to order, fresh and hot. Lovely staff. Very welcoming, caring and kind. Be sure to give Jugem a try! I believe they have some sort of rewards program too!
I love this spot for Japanese curry. Jugem is located along South King Street, right in between an izakaya and a sushi restaurant. Parking is generally available on the street or at the nearby paid lot, and depending on how busy it is, you may have to hunt around the area to park your car. The interior of the shop is cozy and warm, with around 6 tables inside, so seating is somewhat limited. When I visited on a Friday night, I was able to get seating for around 4-5 people immediately. Service is quick, attentive, and friendly, which I appreciated! I got the pork katsu curry, which came out quickly (probably around 15-20 minutes). I overall enjoyed my meal thoroughly! I thought the curry had a good depth of flavor, with a good balance of sweetness and umami. The katsu was delightfully crispy on the outside and juicy inside, which paired well with the hot rice and curry. I also loved how you could request additional curry from the server for no additional charge, which I thought was a nice touch. Jugem is a cozy place to satisfy any cravings for a comforting plate of curry. I would highly recommend visiting!
Consistent delish curry, deal on the kids meal and yes I ate that! Their flavors are amazing. Get the fried chicken you won't regret it! Also trying the vegetable croquettes today, creamy and crispy make sure you order this. Hubs fave is the beef cutlet curry. Fits party of 26 perfectly. We like to come early and beat the rush. Prices are super reasonable too.
One of the best curry spots on the island!!! The restaurant gives an old Japanese family restaurant vibe and i love it! It reminds me of a hole in the wall restaurant i went to in Japan! The Takoyaki fries were a big hit! It is definitely different than a traditional Takoyaki, there is no bonito flakes or kewpie mayo, but the potato filling and octopus inside were soft and fluffy! Definitely try this!!! The aunties working are also so so nice and friendly!
Finally came back to Jugem after my trip from Japan! I was craving curry and decided to revisit Jugem. I love the curry here, it's very flavorful and has the perfect consistency. However, I docked it one star down because the tonkatsu was SUPER DRY. The panko crust barely stuck onto the meat as well. I was a little disappointed, but the curry was still good. Overall, I would still come back for the curry! If anything I'd probably get the sausage curry instead of the tonkatsu.
It wasn't a large restaurant, maybe about ten tables. I ordered to go. The rice was delicious and the curry was the perfect texture. The tonkatsu was cooked perfectly however the panko layer was a little thin and it fell off the meat.
This was such a sweet little spot with sweet old ladies holding down the fort. Had a ratatouille moment where it took me back and reminded me the days of no internal struggle, youthful naivety and ignorance, and YouTube all day. I guess I still do that last part The food was honestly just ok but the vibrations I felt there just resonated with my soul. Curry was good, a bit salty for me but I loved the lil chunks of beef and carrots. Pork katsu was kinda dry, I'd stick to the chicken here.
5 stars for the food, service, and ambiance! Fried Oyster Curry ($19) x3 side Chicken Katsu ($10) Fukujinzuke & Rakkyo - free upon request extra Curry - also free Jugem is the true definition of a hole in the wall spot that serves delicious food at a reasonable price! Legit Japanese curry from Kawagoe has a nice depth of flavor! Although their curry is mild only, they offer extra spicy togarashi to kick up the heat! Zoom in on the bottom left dish and you'll see the togarashi. Spicyyy! It elevates the overall experience. Fresh, plump oysters are flown in from Hiroshima! Katsu is freshly fried and crispy, fukujinzuke: also delicious! Just try it... You won't be disappointed! Park on the street or there's also free parking in the lot behind the restaurant (enter from King St).

I've passed this place for years, & never tried this place until today. Can't believe I deprived myself for so long!! I ordered online pickup for lunch, walked in to the small restaurant & was greeted warmly by the 2 sweet lady's working- my order hot, fresh &waiting patiently for me. This was hands down, the best curry I've ever had IN MY WHOLE LIFE!! The portions are plenty, chicken moist & crispy and not over battered. Curry was slightly spicy, savory, flavorful & comforting. It was like someone Gma' cooked it up with all the love & secrets for generations. Lol. I can't stop telling people how good it was! Most definitely ordering from here again. Absolutely worth the $$, the food speaks for itself. Highly recommend! read more
Discovered their food stand at the Food & New Product Show.....this reminds me so much of Japan. Having lived in Japan the past three years, I've eaten a ton of Japanese curry and have developed a love for it. Japan is the standard and I was really disappointed when I came back to the states and all these different vendors tried to make good Japanese curry. Jugem made curry that took me back to Japan and this was by far the best vendor in the convention center. This was just from a food stall, I can only imagine the quality that their actual restaurant offers. I'm excited. read more

7/27/25 Got to try a bite of their "New Jumbo Crispy Beef Cutlet" which turned out to actually be Menchi Katsu During a past visit one of the ladies was taking pics of a, we guessed, sample Menchi Katsu Well it came to be true Two decent sized patties of coarse chopped beef n round onions w a very crispy panko coating Turned out to be very juicy n tasty! This place has really good curry and really good Tonkatsu. I was mainly craving some Tonkatsu and most of their menu consists of something with curry, so curry was a secondary thought for me. I ordered the Tonkatsu with Coedo Curry and that curry was spot on - great flavor, plentiful amount, no complaints. The Tonkatsu was perfectly seasoned, breaded, and fried, and the sauce was great. Really, just a delicious meal overall. The service is very friendly, answered all of our questions, and we had to wait a little for our food, but we could see it being made fresh, so no complaints there. The pricing is reasonable. The seating is somewhat limited inside, it's a smaller space, and parking is behind the building. Great food, definitely recommended! read more
I was excited to try this place, but after eating there I just don't get the hype. As a disclaimer, I don't eat much Japanese curry, and I don't know a lot about it, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. That being said, I thought the curry udon was... fine. I was expecting something special, but it tasted pretty much like the packaged Japanese curry I've had from the store. I've had curry udon in Japan, and this pales in comparison. The tonkatsu was an even bigger letdown. The breading was slightly overdone, but somehow not quite crispy, and the meat was a little bland and tough. Overall, it was still a tasty meal. I love Japanese food and I enjoyed it, even though it didn't quite meet my expectations. The restaurant itself definitely qualifies as a hole-in-the-wall. I felt it was a little too homely, and it almost seemed like they were still moving in to the place, even though it's been open for a while. I didn't mind it while eating alone, but I probably wouldn't take a friend to eat here. Also, when I walked out, all my clothes smelled really strongly like fried food. I think they have an issue with their ventilation. Metered street parking is available and fairly easy on S King St, though you may have to drove a block or two away to find a spot in the middle of the day when the spots get filled up. read more
Another GREAT hole in the wall joints on Oahu! Located at the intersection of Keeaumoku Street and South King, Jugem is a small authentic Japanese curry restaurant with lots to offer. PARKING There are quite of few stalls which they share with other establishments in the area. Parking is free but it can get busy at times. There's also street parking on King Street fronting the restaurant but very limited so plan accordingly. RESTAURANT It's a small place with about 6-7 tables which can accommodate 20-25 people comfortably. The kitchen is in view and it was nice and clean. Place is nice and well lit. They offer certain products on the wall that you can buy. Like toys and electronics Passing by here at dinner seemed to be the busiest of times for Jugem. Prices on their entree is fair. It won't be Coco Ichiban Curry House prices, but the taste of the food makes it worth spending the extra. FOOD The menu is very easy to read. A bunch of items to choose from although not too intimidating. Ordering is simple and straightforward. I chose the crab meat croquettes. They only gave 2 pieces though but it was enough. We also tried the tonkatsu which didn't look like much but was very filling. Wife ran out of curry and the lady was nice enough to offer her more and there was a bit of rice left on her plate. The curry pan was the highlight and was sooo good! Crispy panko bread deep fried with curry and cheese on the inside. This is a must try. I think I'd be content with just the pan and a soda. Curry itself had lots of flavor. Also, you may want to ask for tsukemono (which they don't give if you don't ask) to toss in your curry for that over the top flavor. My only gripe is I wish they had better ventilation. Because they fry a lot of their food there's a good chance you'll come out with that fry smell on your clothing. But it's worth it! Hubby and I are trying out neighborhood restaurants every week since moving into a condo nearby. Jugem's menu of curry dishes and appetizers are delicious! Check them out! My fave so far is the chicken katsu curry and ika geso karaage. Oh, and the ice cold Sapporo draft! read more
This place exceeded my expectations! The curry is good by itself and tasted even better with other toppings like the tofu (very delicious) and omelette (eggs were fluffy and soft). The curry also comes with potato salad and corn! We got the cheese curry pan and it's breading is crunchy with contrast with its melted cheese and curry inside. The bread was not soggy despite the curry and the crunch lasted for a long time. Also the Taiyaki with ice cream is so good I highly recommend to try it. It's buttery, with whipped cream and vanilla ice cream and chocolate chunks for texture, yet it doesn't taste heavy. It was my second time going and the staff recognized us already! She is so sweet, attentive and efficient. Super quick and nice service! The environment feels cozy and lives up to its description! Definitely is my go to spot. read more
Jugem makes you feel like you're back in Japan, from the delicious curry to the friendly staff what an amazing restaurant. Little things that made it feel special is them offering extra curry if you're running low. Just taking the time to make sure everything is perfect. The chicken Katsu was tender and delicious, only thing I would have wished if the batter stuck to the chicken a little better. That could just be their style of Katsu. If you are in search of japanese curry look no further. A cute spot like mom and daughter shop. It's simple menu and of course it's all curry with rice, udon, or ramen. . Mama had the curry udon. Mama loves her udon. We didn't get any toppings with it. We just got the plain udon curry. . I did the garlic shrimp with curry and rice. The garlic shrimp is nice sjze and cooked well and deveined. The perfect garlicky flavor with the rice and a little touch of japanese curry was amazing combo. . We even got some crab cream Croquettes and let me tell you it was creamy and crispy and tasted like real crab. It was different and definitely a nice crispy texture to pair with some curry. . Service was great and simple and easy. She was working so hard and refilling on the water. We really had a great experience. . Parking there is a lot in the back so it's great to not worry about parking. Free parking too. . Overall the curry is settled and lovely. After a an hr the curry is a little salty. So just be mindful if you have blood pressure. Lots of fried food so if fried food is not your thing, there are limited options. I have always been curious about this spot, driving by their storefront as well as seeing social media posts, so I was beyond glad to finally have someone who's willing to accompany me. They have plenty of parking in the back but I have no idea which spots are meant for specific establishments. We came by and surprisingly there was very little no people. I ordered the kids curry and my friend ordered the udon curry. The kids curry came with a random "toy" which was like a neck fan. The bowl that the kids curry came in is also very cute. For some reason my curry did not have any corn in it but the chicken and curry was very flavorful. I saw on another review that you could ask for more curry so I asked and the waitress was very nice to provide it to me. The first amount of curry was perfect after that (lacking at first, i had plenty of rice left). My only gripe is that they have no separation of the kitchen with the dining space, which meant that the oil and grease scent would then latch onto clothing after dining and mingling for a bit. I would definitely recommend if you're craving a quick bite of Japanese curry. I definitely want to try their curry fried sando. read more

Hidden gem we found last minute on our trip Food was spectacular, homey, made with love and care. I got the curry udon with chicken katsu added and the broth was delightful. I had to stop talking with my friend and focus on the soup. My friend got the tonkatsu curry and she killed it too ahaha. We finished the night with the curry pan and the bread was light and the cheese was an added bonus. These ladies were hard working and I saw their passion for quality. The food comes out SLOW BUT it's made with love. It's like a homemade meal. Worth every second of waiting. Parking lot in the back. read more

Curry is really yummy and the service is so great here. I got the cream crab croquet curry which was so good and the curry had a nice flavor. They were super nice and gave us a free curry refill for free. I also got the curry sandwich which was sooo good I would definitely get it again! The cream sodas also looked really good and I will have to try one next time. A family owned restaurant and they have a parking lot in the back that has a decent amount of stalls. read more
If you find yourself in Honolulu, you must go try this Japanese curry spot! It's tucked away in a small building near the Ala Moana mall. When I walked in, it felt like old school Honolulu! We were immediately greeted and sat down. The menu is simple and everything looked good. As more and more people arrived, it was getting busy! I ordered the Tonkatsu curry! It came with a small side potato salad! The smell of hime cooking was coming from the kitchen as if you were at a home for dinner rather than a restaurant! When you go, you have to not be in a rush as everything is prepared fresh and takes some time. The food came out and was nice and hot! The taste so delicious and fresh! I love the atmosphere and hospitality of the staff! Made one feel very welcomed and great dinner experience! Take out is available, but I recommend eating in! Also this place is small, so large groups are challenging. The price is super reasonable and you get so much food! I have been wanting to try this place the last few times we've come to visit. Tonight we were able too and the food was great! The two ladies running it you could tell they cared about the food and they were very nice. Curry tasted great and had lots of flavor. Not chalky like a lot places and not too sweet. It's one thing to have delicious food... But when you leave with your heart just as full as your stomach, your experience is sooo much better. jugem is a place that does this, and then some! My girlfriend has been leaving little doodles on every visit, and to see that they have been keeping them JUST MAKES OUR HEARTS MELT! If you like curry, I promise you won't be disappointed! read more

I tried the curry here and it was good. They also give you more curry sauce if you start running out, which made the service even better. The curry pan was good too but forgot to take a picture of the curry because I was so hungry. The place is a cozy and nice. read more

Found this Japanese curry restaurant at the corner of King St and Keeaumoku. The curry was excellent! The tonkatsu was cooked to perfection. The jumbo cheese curry was so good. The cheese bread stuffed with curry for $7 was surprisingly filling. Parking is located out back. Restaurant and kitchen area was clean. Very friendly staff. I would definitely go again. Service was excellent. Waitress even gave me extra curry. The art on the take out box was cute! read more

Been coming here for a while now, and I realized I have never reviewed them! Located on the food corner of Keeaumoku and S King Street, this little shop serves one of the best curries on the island. The dine in experience is different from the takeout in that there are lots of dine in extras at no additional cost. All curry rice dishes can get a 2nd helping of curry sauce (with carrots, meat, and potatoes), potato salad with corn and takuwan, and the fun red fukujin. The menu has expanded and contracted over the months, but I tend to get the same dishes every time. Karaage Curry: 8/10. While the chicken karaage is not as tender or flavorful as other Japanese places, the karaage goes very well with their curry. Also, they give a large portion with their mound of rice. It may be $16, but you won't be leaving hungry. Fried Oysters: 9/10. These fried oysters are fresh with great taste with no grainy feeling. Goes well with the curry or by themselves. Blueberry Matcha Latte: 9/10. It sounds like a weird combination of flavors, but they have a great mix that actually is surprisingly good. It comes separately, and you mix yourself so you get to have a little fun mixing game with the reward of a great drink. They do have other flavors as well. Potato Salad: 7/10. While not the best potatoes ever, it is complementary and isn't too strong. Is a nice side dish to have before or during the meal. Fukujin- 10/10. The ultimate pickled dish to always go with curry. This is crispy, flavorful, and goes great with every curry dish. Ask the servers for a portion with your meal! I can not stress enough that this eatery is great and deserves to be dined at. Please support local and enjoy it for what it has to offer. The only downsides are the parking situation, and some menu items may not be available every time. read more
This just might be my favorite Japanese curry spot. I first tried them at a food expo and it was good but nothing special. But when I went to their actual shop, I was blown away. The curry is super flavorful with just a little bit of a kick - enough for flavor but not spicy. The curry is so simple but delicious. I got the omurice curry and the egg was cooked perfectly. I also tried a piece of my friend's fried chicken and it was so good! The seasoning on the chicken breading was spot on. I also like the little appetizer they gave us. Service was also super friendly. It's a relatively small shop but we went kind of early on a weekday night and we got seated right away. I'm definitely coming back! read more

We tried a lot of food here as a big group and I think the items were average. It's a good spot if you're craving Japanese curry and tonkatsu I guess but there wasn't anything that stood out. My husband got the combo so it's got a bit of everything. The pork or the chicken weren't tender or juicy. The oysters were delicious at least and that's usually my go to for Japanese curry! We also ordered their croquettes and they're alright. The curry was pretty good but it didn't stand out. It's a cute mom and pop restaurant. I had always wanted to try this place and I really wanted to like it and go back, but probably not. The service was very friendly. It can be slow because there were only 2-3 people working there when we went, maybe run by a family? So if you go as a big group make sure you call ahead of time. read more
