I ordered the Double Fried Chicken Wings, Spicy Raw Crab and the Spicy Seafood JJamPPong. The JJamPPong was so unbelievably good, so savory, spicy and packed with flavor. The customer service was disrespectful the staff came off as rude and inattentive, which set a bad tone from the start. We ordered jjamppong, jajangmyeon, and spicy marinated crab. Hands down one of the best in the city, this place is truly a gem. They do get pretty busy, but that just speaks to their quality, taste, and generous portions. Add in great service and friendly owners, and you can tell they genuinely care about their customers and the food they serve. It never misses, always consistently good. We've been coming here for a couple of years now, and whenever this is the lunch or dinner option, it's always a quick yes. We've tried quite a few dishes here: the honey walnut prawns, salt and pepper pork loin, salt and pepper prawns (so good), shrimp fried rice, and their regular chow mein with beef or shrimp, honestly all 10/10. But our definite go-to is the Hong Kong-style chow mein and the Mongolian beef. The portions are generous and usually feed us with some leftovers, which is always a plus. Pricing is fair for the quality and portion sizes. The place is clean. The only downside is parking, it's street parking only, so it can be a little tough to find a spot sometimes. read more

This is the best meal I had this year. Two of our friends haven't tried JJamPPong yet. Of course we have to bring them. Their daughter studied abroad in Korean and they visit her often. So, their standards for authentic Korean food are high. We ordered spicy raw crab, fried fish, seafood jjamppong, jajang mein w/pork, string beans, Korean fried chicken, salt & pepper and beef chow fun. An unexpected clams in oyster sauce arrived. Morgan recognized me from last time and gave us a free dish. That's very nice of him. We loved the spicy raw crab so much, we ordered a second one even though we were all pretty full. That's how you know when a dish is good. A 2nd order, even though you are full. Although everything tasted good, my two friends new to JJamPPong said the standout dishes for them were: #1 jjamppong seafood soup. It had a good spicy burn, not just spicy but a unique blend where you can taste the seafood. It was a good balance hard to achieve. #2 was the double fried chicken, salt and pepper because of the crunchiness and not oily. #3 was the string beans. It had a good snap to them and flavorful. We'll have to find a day where their kids are free have them try it. It is hard to make kids eat vegetables but this will do the trick. The restaurant was full at 7pm on a Friday night. Their menu seemed to have the classics + a few other Chinese dishes, but we didn't bother with those. We ordered and the food came out fast. *The Tangsuyuk came out first. Happend to be near this part of town and it was dinner time. Parking can be difficult in this area, bring your patience. This restuarant was tasty and service was fantastic. I don't usually have high standards for service at traditional Asian restaurants, but this one was genuine/friendly, quick, and efficient. I was impressed with the green beans in garlic sauce. The green beans had a nice crunch and weren't greasy. I truly tasted the garlic flavor, but it didn't overpower the dish. The clams tasted fresh and the chives/sauce paired nicely. Their famous jajang mein noodles had a nice chew, not soggy. They had enough sauce with bits of various ingredients that all went well together. Go out of your way to dine at JJamPPong. Seriously, no matter where you are in San Francisco, this is a place that is worth checking out! Located in the mission district area, this is authenticity at its best. It's a lovely mix of Korean and Chinese delightful and delicious dishes. We've been here several times because it's that good. The dining room is small, but it's clean and the staff is very welcoming. Outside of outstanding food, here's what I absolutely love. The way they package to go orders. Yes, you read that correctly, the way they packaged to go orders. This alone outside of as I mentioned the delicious food, is a reason to dine here. The to go orders are vacuumed sealed, ensuring freshness, warmth, and the ability to reheat if need be the items. I absolutely plan on going back, again! Because there are so many dishes that are on the must try list. The double fried garlic chicken wings are so tasty! I wish they had a little bit more of the garlic sauce, and plan on requesting that for my next visit. The wings are super generous size. Not those small flimsy wings that you might find elsewhere. Perfectly crispy and perfectly moist meat. Just so delicious! My new favorite and go to is the JaJang Mein. It absolutely takes me back to Korea. This is comfort food at its finest, and I'm telling you this is the place to have it! I've been craving JjamPpong and I finally had the chance to visit again after more than a year. This place is still SO good, with big portions that are reasonably priced. I usually order the spicy marinated crab but came for lunch this time, and ordered seafood jjamppong, chicken wings, and garlic green beans. Honestly, everything was mid -- nothing really stood out. The marinated crab was okay, but nothing spectacular. There wasn't much meat, and the two orders weren't even consistent -- one was spicier, the other leaned a bit sweet. It just felt like the hype isn't there anymore. The rest of the food was fine but forgettable. I've been here a handful of times over the years, and this visit was definitely the weakest. Went over at around 6:45 pm on a Monday and we got a table for 2 immediately. The restaurant is pretty small but the seating isn't too tight and it is a quiet place to get dinner. They have a variety of Korean and Chinese dishes which are unique and also some specialties like the Jjamppong and Spicy Raw Crab. Jjamppong - I had been wanting to try this dish and it was packed with flavor. The spice and tangy flavors came through very strongly, loaded up abundantly with the noodles and mix of seafoods which were all cooked well. Tangsuyuk - I typically really enjoy the Cantonese style of sweet and sour pork and this one was a cool variation of that. It was sweet, sour and a refreshing break from eating the more intense jjamppong. It was different with the pork being fried and the crunchy vegetables. This spot is a hidden gem! You don't usually find many filling and affordable Chinese-Korean places in the city, but this restaurant is one of them. The ambiance is nothing particularly special, but the food is comforting and delicious. Our go-tos are always the jajang mein, tangsuyuk, and crispy garlic beef. Glad one of my friends was observing Good Friday which helped us narrowed down to this spot. JJampong in SF is an absolute find if you're craving solid Korean-Chinese fare. The jjajjamyeon is easily one of the best I've had in the Bay--perfectly chewy noodles with that rich, savory-black bean sauce that hits all the right notes. We also tried the walnut shrimp, salt and pepper chicken wings, and sweet and sour pork--all very delicious. Crispy, not greasy, and packed with flavor. The HK noodles were super crispy and had that nostalgic, homey flavor--like something you'd get at a classic Hong Kong cafe. One standout was the spicy raw marinated crab. Yes, it's pretty spicy and salty on its own, but eat it with a bowl of rice and it balances beautifully. I happened to be in the neighborhood and stopped by for lunch on the weekend. As we waited for our food, we snacked on the complimentary pickled radish and kimchi. The jajangmyeon and jjamppong were solid, and the noodles were thicker than what I'm used to. The portions were pretty big, so we definitely had leftovers. However, I was disappointed by the tangsuyuk. The thin batter was almost nonexistent and became quite soggy in the sauce, and the meat was a bit mushy. I wish the sauce was on the side instead. The employees did offer additional seaweed, but the one pack is definitely enough. In terms of the flavor, it gets quite spicy about 3 half crabs in. All the food came out quick and tasted great! Our favorite dishes were the jjamppong and black bean noodles since the noodles in both dishes were nice and chewy. Jjampong was decently spicy too but the radish and kimchi they give you help cut it a bit. They saw us struggling to ladle the noodle soup so they came over and helped us, so kind! You can find parking if you're willing to park a few blocks away, but pay attention to the street cleaning signs! My favorites are the marinated raw crab and the spicy glazed chicken wings, their jajangmyeon is good as well! Finally was able to try the famous raw marinated crab. It was delicious, spicy, and bursting with flavor. The hubs and I ordered take out and accompanied the crab with the spicy seafood noodle. We compared it some other restaurants and found that their version is on par with paks noodles. The portion was huge and they did not skimp on the ingredients. We also decided to order their fried chicken, which came out crispy and moist despite us picking up our food late. We were all surprised by the amount of food that came with the order. The staff was welcoming and we would definitely come back to the other items. I will say that the chicken was a bit sweet for my taste, but outside of that, it was everything a good KFC would entail. read more

This restaurant is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I'm glad that my partner and I ate here and we plan on coming back. Growing up, my best friend of 40 years was from Korea (immigrating to the US as a child with her parents having never learned English) and I spent a lot of time at my best friend's house, eating homemade Korean food. In addition, my mother is from Taiwan (Chinese/Taiwanese with English being my mom's 3rd language). At JJamPPong, I can taste the influence of Korean (mostly) and Chinese/Chinese American food (to a lesser extent), but it doesn't taste like anything I ate whike growing up. So, JJamPPong tastes different yet familiar all at the same time and I like having that experience. It's a unique dining experience and it tastes good. The restaurant is generous with the amount of seafood in its seafood dishes so even the pricier dishes (such as the spicy raw crab) are worth the price you pay. And some dishes are messy so be careful what you order if you're on a date or having a business lunch/dinner. For example, the noodles are LONG (which, by the way, is a sign of longevity in Chinese culture) so although it may bring long life eating a long noodle, it's also a difficult task to slurp up a seemingly never-ending noodle. Also, the spicy raw crab is a messy dish where you use your hands (using plastic gloves that are provided by the restaurant) to pick up and eat crab that has a generous amount of red sauce with your hands. So, it is a very messy but fun experience that I would only share with someone you feel comfortable eating like a wild animal around. My partner and I ordered 3 dishes but realized that we probably would have been satisfied/full just sharing one dish and ended up taking home the leftovers which we ate for both lunch and dinner the following day. This is not authentic Korean style spicy marinated crab. As a Korean, I was severely disappointed by everything here. We got the spicy marinated crab and the jjamppong. The spicy marinated crab had an overwhelming amount of ginger to the point where some bites all I could taste was ginger. Spicy marinated crab is supposed to be sweet and spicy, and this felt like I was eating grated ginger with chili flakes. I couldn't even taste the crab because of how bad it was. The jjamppong also was extremely disappointing. Anyone who has had good jjamppong knows that noodle texture is key for a dish like this. The noodles were so thick and overcooked and the broth was watery compared to how it should be. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you're craving traditional dishes. My to-go place for jjampong and spicy marinated crab! Came here Friday for lunch at ~12:30 pm. Aside from the three other tables of people, the place wasn't packed so we got seated immediately. Normally, with only two large tables and ~8-10 smaller tables, this place ends up filled with a waitlist outside. Parking was tricky as there was street cleaning near the residential on Fridays 12-2pm, and others on Tuesday. Street parking is available on the main street though. What we got: - Black Bean Noodles (jjajangmein)~ Sweetened from the onions, the sauce coats the noodles very well with a savory and slightly sweet flavor. We devoured this bowl before we even got our hands on the jjamppong! - Seafood Jjamppong with lower spice ~ Normally this dish is slightly on the spicier side for me, but to accommodate my friend, I requested less spice. Milder in spice, the broth was very savory and deep in flavor. The table was served with tea, pickled radish, and cabbage kimchi. Note: the normal spice jjamppong is spicier than the cabbage kimchi provided on the table. If you cannot handle the kimchi on the table. the jjampong may be too spicy. All in all this place is very good for some Korean Chinese food. Will definitely return! read more
