This place has gotten so much better. Dice quality fish and bento box is yummy. Nice service too.

We came in on a Wednesday night and we were able to sit wherever we liked. My favorite dishes here were the hamachi Kama and the agedashi tofu. Rolls were good too. We didn't try their nigiri's or sashimi but I'd come back to this restaurant if I was in the area craving sushi. Prices are average here for sushi in SF, 4 items for $66. They also happy hour but we didn't come in time for that.

Came in for dinner on a Tuesday. There was one other guest there. Clean space with K-pop music playing in the background. No TV's. When we sat down, we weren't offered physical menus or water, even though the physical ones were available. I'm fine with the QR codes but not my boomer dad. We didn't get water until maybe ten minutes after we sat down. The rolls came out FAST. We ordered: Hot King roll (spicy tuna, avocado, seared white fish, fried onion, sriracha) 4/5. Too much sriracha on top but otherwise it was good. Not too spicy. Double toro roll (Salmon Belly, Mango, Avocado topped W/Bluefin Toro & Fresh Wasabi) 4.2/5. This was so good! Fresh, light, balanced. It was good on its own but was texturally boring because everything was soft so I added a bit of crunch w the fried onion from the hot king roll, which I think made it that much better. Dragon roll: 2.5/5 meh. I didn't really like this one.. Something about it tasted off. I thought this was worse than an average dragon roll. Overall I give this place 3.5/5. I'd come here again for the double toro roll.

Spring time in San Francisco you can enjoy seeing the cherry blossoms starting to blossom and it takes you to a different heights around the city. I like to go on a Spring stroll and explore the different Heights around San Francisco whether it's Presidio Heights, Pacific Heights or Bernal Heights because they do have one thing in common: They all have a good variety of restaurants . In the cuts of San Francisco there is a hidden gem in Diamond Heights . Au Sushi offers lots of good different rolls and bento boxes . There is also a Happy Hour with 30% off of Alcohol and Apps everyday from 4:30pm-6:30pm. I got the tempura app and it had lightly battered shrimp and veggies . I also got the Warriors roll and it was delicious with shrimp tempura imitation crab topped with seared salmon, and onion crunch. The mango salmon had salmon, mango and avocado topped with salmon and mango. It was buttery ,savory, and a bit sweet. It had a great mango juicy flavor. I then had the Au roll which had imitation crab sweet cream topped with garlic mayo baked scallop and unagi sauce. It was warm and the scallop was savory along with the crab. I do enjoy sushi year-round . Au Sushi is a good neighborhood sushi restaurant where the flavor takes you to a different height in San Francisco when you want to get a bite. Try the sushi with mango and salmon along with some Takoyaki and Hamachi Maki Sometimes I grab a bento box with salmon teriyaki and wash it all down with some hot sake

Came here for valentines with my bf (forgot to submit my review). But they were one of the kindest restaurants I've ever been to. The vibe was nice, the food was really good, and the staff were so sweet. They even gifted me a little valentines set and gave me and my bf some extras on the house for the special day. I've been waiting to go back when I get the time.

I know I've said this about plenty of other places, but it feels especially true in this case - I doubt I would've ever discovered Au Sushi if not for Yelp. Quite literally, they had a direct hand in it, as it was the YEE that was held here last year that brought me out this way. For whatever reason, I've only been out this way a handful of times over the years/decades. Although, in my defense, it's not like there's a whole lot going on in Diamond Heights either... Tucked away in the corner of the relatively sleepy Diamond Heights Shopping Center, Au Sushi is one of the few eateries in the neighborhood. However, between their relatively late hours, wealth of parking spaces, and how they always seem to have seating available despite their modest size, it's also a cozy little gem that is super convenient whether you live in the area or you're driving in from elsewhere. Of course, that's to say nothing of the menu, which looks pretty typical on the surface (bento boxes, sashimi, sushi rolls, noodle dishes, etc.), but is rather eye catching once get deeper into what they have to offer. In particular, their nigiri and house sushi rolls not only sound good on the menu, but they look even better in the photos on Yelp! -- NIGIRI OMAKASE - Chef's Choice Nigiri (8 Pieces)...$68 I enjoyed this both times I had it, though it was better and more unique before the menu change (see below). That time, the stand outs were the Uni, Toro, Hotate, and Wagyu. This time, the only real stars were the Toro, Sake Belly, and the Amaebi. -- DOUBLE TORO ROLL - Salmon Belly, Mango, and Avocado Topped with Bluefin Toro and Fresh Wasabi...$21 Pretty solid, though, it'd be hard not to like a roll with two types of toro. Both the Salmon and Bluefin were equally delicious, though the latter stood out in part because of the size of the cuts. I was iffy on the mango, but these were perfectly ripe and added a nice sweetness. -- GOLDEN GATE ROLL - Avocado and Salmon Topped with Scallop, Ikura, and Soy Paper...$19 I'm a sucker for salmon and scallops in sushi rolls, so this practically had my name on it. Thankfully, it was great! The scallops were large, fresh, and had a nice sweetness while the salmon and avocado made for a classic pairing - yum! -- CHICKEN KARAAGE - Crispy Japanese Fried Chicken...$15 Ehh...not bad, but nothing special either. The chicken was decently crispy on the outside and somewhat moist on the inside. It could've used a little bit of seasoning, but at least they weren't all that oily and the aioli helped to add some flavor. -- KING DRAGON ROLL - Soft Shell Crab, Imitation Crab Topped with Unagi, Avocado, Tobiko, and Unagi Sauce...$18 Cooked rolls aren't always the greatest, but this was really good. The soft shell crab was flavorful, had a nice crunch to it, and was complemented well by the imitation crab and the unagi, which was meatier than I expected. One thing worth noting is that in the time since Au Sushi opened, the menu has been tweaked. Not significantly, as most things are listed the same as before, but since my first visit here for the YEE last year, only a half dozen or so things have been removed/altered. Unfortunately, that includes their namesake AU SUSHI ROLL, which previously had Salmon Skin, Cucumber, and Shiso topped with Imitation Crab, Monkfish Liver, Scallions, and Special Sauce, that tasted AMAZING. Now, it has Imitation Crab Sweet Cream Topped with Garlic Mayo Baked Scallop and Unagi Sauce - not horrendous by any means, but definitely not as appealing to my tastebuds. Still, despite the loss of my favorite roll here (or almost anywhere, for that matter), Au Sushi is quite the gem. I can't really speak to their noodle dishes or bento boxes, but they seem perfectly fine based on what I've seen other tables get and how they read on the menu. Perhaps I'll try them at some point (they have a "happy hour" where many of their cooked dishes are discounted), but even if I don't, I'm happy to keep coming back for the sushi and nigiri omakase, especially considering how easy it is to come here!

Tried Au Sushi on a Thursday night, easy parking since it's located in a shopping plaza and was seated right away. We ordered several items, rolls, and dishes. Agedashi tofu was not very good though, not fried correctly and didnt have the typical sauce. Hard to describe the food here, maybe "standard" or "generic"? Kind of like getting hot food from the Japanese market, better presentation though. Not that that's a bad thing, but I want to say the food was ok but nothing that would make me rush to come back.

We got the nigiri combo and it was pretty good! The lion king was good as well. Great sushi, super fresh, super delicious. Good service, it's not a big place. There are about 5-10 tables. the bathroom is outside so you need a key. Lots of parking!

Was craving sushi on my first trip ever to California and found this cute gem. Our sushi was delicious - one of the best I've had. The restaurant was very cute inside and had adorable decor all around and great music. service was fast. I can't remember what rolls we got but I'm sure whatever you get will be yummy.

This place is truly a gem. Heard about it from a friend who has very discrminate taste and he raves about Au Sushi. I had regular chirashi and my husband had sashimi combo. Fresh, top quality, it's just perfect! My kids have bento box and unagi. We were planning our next visit right after our few bites! Like my friend, I will recommend this place.

This is a familiar spot for me. A former Burger King over twenty years ago, it evolved to this neighborhood eatery, offering lunch and dinner in the heart of Diamond Heights. They opened in August 2022, a challenging time as things are just opening up again. It was on my radar after seeing several hot and new Yelp notices and seeing Cherylynn N.'s (https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=eKUGKQRE-Ywi5dY55_zChg) positive review. I was accepted an invite to and attended a recent YEE here on a Thursday late afternoon. Besides the YEE gifts, I ordered a few other menu items and, as I later found out, off-menu items to take home. Being tired after leaving the office, I decided to combine the gifted item with a few a couple of the items while saving some for future meals later in the week. Here's what I tried: 1. Agedashi tofu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=SNgtkhdENWHq2y9bzP0fVg&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - There were a good number packed in the box and they were neatly stacked in a clamshell paper box. I liked that the sauce was put on the side. I only ate one while fresh that evening and I enjoyed the flavors with the dipping sauce (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=DBaQOqR7HyhKTLa3exTSwQ&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). 2. Yakitori beef tongue and scallops (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=LimhiL91k7QL1RCECaNbNw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - I ate these a few days later, reheating them in my toaster oven; they were packed nicely on a bed of lettuce and lemon garnish (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=EXU7iocMZLTjwRpPRJ3OMA&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). I placed them on foil and added a few drops of water in reheating them at 250F with the foil folded up but not covered so that they wouldn't steam (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=nIoKSkeQuoORfYdTQQfcnw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). The beef tongue held up well and I liked that the seasoning was not salty. The scallops were pretty good too but a bit of the ocean flavor came into play so I suggest eating this fresh and not storing and reheating. 3. Unagi and avocado handroll and spicy tuna handroll (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=RZ0yiflIQ341nX5_RtGJ6Q&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q) - These were my off-menu orders as I didn't see them on the online or website menu. I enjoyed both of them as the rice had a nice shari flavor and was still moist (some may find it too moist). I was impressed by the spicy tuna filling (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=0Eb56VH3ZoXHPfmw4SoUAw&userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q). the flavor and the portion generosity. A young lady took my order by phone as suggested in the YEE invite for my check-in as well as my takeout order. Justin greeted me, gave me my check, and graciously took my credit card for payment. I asked him a few questions about business and he explained that they opened late summer of 2022, not an easy time to start a business. My only suggestion is, for off-menu items, please tell the customer the pricing and confirm that they still want it before accepting their order. I was a little surprised when, looking at my itemized receipt, I saw an item as "2 Rock N Roll $24.00". Using my higher math, I scratched my head and pondered whether I'd normally order handrolls at $12.00 each. Perhaps, consider putting hand rolls, if you're willing to make them, on your menu so the diner can decide. Will likely try the ramen or udon next time.

Au Sushi was a really nice surprise! It's located deep in the sleepy corner of the Diamond Heights plaza and feels like a well kept secret. My friend and I spent several minutes perusing the menu and choosing a wide variety of rolls to share amongst friends at a dinner party later. We were very impressed that each roll was made fresh and we were also very appreciative that the vegetarian rolls extended beyond basic veggie maki rolls. Our favorites of the night were the Fish Tacos (the crispy tempura seaweed base was chef's kiss), the Double Toro (soooo buttery!), and the Walnut Roll (very pleasant vegetarian twist on a dragon roll). Honestly though, everything was of really good quality. They also paid great attention to still presenting the sushi very nicely despite it being a to-go order. Pricewise, it'll probably be about $30 a person if you stick to special rolls and appetizers. Some of the specials like the chirasi bowl or chef's platter will cross $50 easily.

The soup that comes with the omakase + part of the Omakase Nigiri - all so delicious !!

I was by myself and wanted to have a quick eat. This place has unique ramen so I decided to come again (also SF/bay area only in the US). Since I was alone, I got to skip the line and only waited 15 minutes. The ramen was great. I would love to come again and try new one. Their duck chashu is SO GOOD. We were a large group of 15, including several kids, and we completely understand that the restaurant is small and accommodating a group our size can be challenging. We waited in line for almost an hour with around 6 children. During the wait, a staff member named Sue came outside, asked how many people were in our group, and handed us menus. Since it was our first visit, we were naturally asking questions and trying to understand the menu. Unfortunately, throughout the interaction, her body language and expressions felt impatient and unwelcoming. There was visible frustration and eye-rolling, which made us feel uncomfortable rather than welcomed. Even after we were seated, the experience continued to feel tense. One of the toddlers in our group started crying briefly -- something fairly common with young children -- and we were told to "keep it low out of respect." While we absolutely respect other diners, the way it was communicated felt lacking in empathy, especially on a busy Mother's Day with families dining out. A small gesture of kindness or understanding could have gone a long way. Instead, my friend felt compelled to take the child outside, which was disappointing. Additionally, after being seated, we had to remind the staff multiple times to come take our orders. What makes this especially unfortunate is that the ramen itself was truly delicious and lived up to the hype. The food was excellent, which is why this experience was so disappointing overall. I hope management takes this feedback seriously because customer service and hospitality matter just as much as the food experience. Unfortunately, this was not the ideal way to end our Mother's Day celebration.

They not only refunded the ramen with the issue but generously refunded the entire meal for our party. I truly appreciate the follow-up, accountability, and care--it made a big difference. I came to Hinodeya Ramen today with my partner, and this visit was really disappointing, especially considering I've been coming here for years. On a positive note, my Tokyo Duck ramen was actually very good, great portion and rich, flavorful broth. We also had gyoza and hot sake, which were enjoyable. Ambiance was a bit noisy. However, my partner ordered the beef sukiyaki ramen, and when it came out, there was a thick, short, wavy hair in the bowl, clearly not something that should ever be in food. This is a serious contamination issue. We tried to get our server's attention, and I understand it was busy, but being busy is not an excuse when it comes to food safety. Eventually, another server came over. We showed him the issue, expecting at least a proper apology or some explanation of what happened. Instead, he just took the bowl away and said a quick "I'm sorry" no explanation, no reassurance, nothing. They brought out a new bowl of ramen, but at that point, the experience was already ruined. It's hard to continue eating normally after something like that, it honestly just stays in your mind. What makes this more frustrating is that I've been here many times before with friends, family, and coworkers, and when everything goes right, it's great. But when something goes wrong, the response is just a simple "sorry" with no accountability or communication. Even on my last visit a few months ago, the broth was bland and the response was the same just "I'm sorry." At a minimum, for an issue this serious, there should be clear communication, reassurance about food safety, and a more professional response. Because of both past and current experiences, I don't think I'll be coming back. I really hope they improve their service and train staff to handle serious situations like this more appropriately.

Pleasantly, there was more than enough room. There were at least 1-2 seats in between the three groups on each side that were there- a solo diner, a small family of 3, and my group of 4. I ordered the Karaka Spicy, my bf ordered Akamaru Modern, his sister ordered Miso, and I don't remember what her friend got- I think it was also Karaka spicy. My bf and I ordered the Treasure plate on the side to share and a side of spicy paste because I know Japanese spicy is barely spicy (from someone who grew up eating SEA spicy). Karaka Spicy had a nicely balance tonkotsu mouth feel and pork flavor. Broth was a little salty. I was correct to assume that it wasn't spicy because I used half of the side of spicy paste and I still didn't think it was spicy enough. Chashu was cooked fine. Notes: - I wished I would've asked if they could swap the thin noodles for the thick ones. I love the chew thicker noodles provide. - Noodles were cooked al dente. Akamaru Modern tasted very similar to Karaka spicy without the spicy. My bf used the other half of the spicy paste as dip for his toppings. He enjoyed it. Miso was a lighter broth (obvi) with a good umami flavor and was not watered down. Solid. She loved it. I have never seen her finish a whole bowl of ramen before. The ramen is served in large bowls, which looks impressive at first, but the actual portion of noodles and toppings felt underwhelming for the price. At that price point, I expected more both in quantity and flavor. We ordered the Dragon Tantan ramen, which the menu describes as spicy. It wasn't spicy at all. We asked our waiter if we could have a little more heat, and he nodded and brought over a tiny dipping-bowl-sized portion of some red paste with no explanation. There was no mention that it would cost extra. After finishing our meal, we were surprised to see a $5 charge on the bill for the "extra spice." We genuinely thought it was complimentary, and if it wasn't, that absolutely should have been communicated before serving it. The lack of transparency was disappointing and unnecessary. Overall: mid food, mid service, and not worth the price -- especially during such an exciting weekend in the city. Unfortunately, we won't be coming back.

Okonomoyaki tater tots - 8.5/10 from a potato lover!! This does have some sort of cheese on it so beware if you don't eat it Hamachi Hand Roll - 9/10 SO GOOD. I think the rice is mixed in with soy sauce. It was super flavorful which I wasn't expecting Scallop Hand Roll - 8/10, the yuzu on top was absolutely delicious & scallop was very soft. Kobe Skewer - 7/10, it was good but nothing extraordinary. It'll hit the spot if you like meat skewers Yuzu Tori Skewer - 7/10, same as the kobe skewer, but the yuzu on top was delicious Niku Ramen - 8/10, good portion & very very flavorful. I'm glad that they gave a lot of meat in this. I shared this & they provided an extra bowl without me asking :) It's also not super spicy. Hokkaido Milk Pudding - 8/10, the pudding itself was so good but the sauce was a little too sweet for me. However, my partner has a sweet tooth and loved it :) Will totally come again, everything was so yummy and so glad to have tried it!

When we arrived, there was already a long line out front, which set the tone. The place is small and intimate. The food was out of this world. I got the pork belly skewers, mushrooms in truffle sauce, a unagi hand roll, and a shrimp tempura hand roll. All of it was excellent, but the mushrooms and pork belly truly stood out. Every dish felt like it was made with deep care and intention. Our server was attentive throughout. We had a fantastic time. Definitely make a reservation before you go!

Yelp and Google both had…read moreHinodeya higher rated than Ippudo (I wasn't in the mood to battle whatever mob scene might be happening at Mensho), and this place was literally right across the street from my hotel, so I made a mad dash for this place as it was friggin' cold in SF on a late Spring day. If you try to come here around 6-7pm, there is a long line waiting to get seated, but it moves fast. I kept peeking out of my hotel window and by 7:30pm, line was almost non existent, so that's when I went down to get dinner. When I arrived, I was immediately shown a seat inside. You can sit outside too as lots of tables right on the street but it was way too cold for me. Service was quick and I ordered a Yuzu Zen (vegan) ramen. I wanted to try something different than their signature ramen. This ramen was cooked in the traditional Japanese Buddhist temple way, which was a bonus for me. I am a practicing Buddhist and have meditated at various different temple organizations and I enjoy temple cooking as its usually lighter but still very soul nourishing. The broth is lighter and its a vegan dashi broth and comes with zest of yuzu (its like a Japanese lemon), bamboo shoots, crispy kale and sweet fried tofu. I enjoyed this bowl of noodles with soup and the broth was hot, so it warmed me up. I was not really a fan of the inari (sweet fried tofu) as it was just too sweet for me. Service was a little slow towards the end as I was itching to pay and go for an evening stroll, but otherwise, a good experience. I'd come back again when nearby.
