So I Arrange to have Jay's movers move me on July 14 Sunday morning at 7 AM they showed up at 7:15 But it gets worse it was a team of three guys the lead guy came in and start talking to me about additional charges Shrink wrap for $40 for the roll Which was fine but I told him that I wasn't told this before I set up my arrangements with the dispatcher and that extra cost will come out of the tip.So me and him went back and forth from about 15 minutes about the extra costs and furniture that he wanted me to initial because it was particle wood So I asked the guy if he can just get to work I only had the movers for three hours and time was being wasted with all the discussion So to make a long story short Yelp friends it was the worst move ever this was my 2nd time Using Jay's movers the first time was great Absolutely have no complaints I had Lalo,Juan and Andres I did request those buys but they would not accommodate me and sent me the absolute worst team ever it was the most stressful 3 hrs I had in a long time but There is more later on in the evening I sit at my kitchen table to have something to eat and the table comes up its missing two screws the movers Neglected to put the screws back in place they did send a repair man out to fix it, I wish this could've been a better experience but they've made it a Nightmare I absolutely will never use Jay's movers in the future. read more

I cannot say enough positive things about Jay Movers. I consider myself a professional relocator (basically I have moved 5 times in the last 5 years). Every year I had one bad experience after the other with the moving companies I hired (broken furniture, super late arrivals, bad customer service). This time I went with a company that I actually witness moving someone into one of my old apartments. They were the most professional, timely, and experienced movers I have dealth with. Booking the move was extrememly easy. On the day of the move they showed up right on time (a little early actually) and got right to work. My move was scheduled to take 2.5 hours and it ended up only taking 2. All of my stuff arrived at my new apartment in the same condition that it left in. These guys really knew what they were doing. If I have to move again any time soon, which I hope I don't, I will not hesitate to hire them again. read more

We used Jay movers on June, 28th. We packed most of our stuff by ourselves and we left for them to pack the TV, the bed, 4 chairs, 2 arm chairs, a coffe table, a chest, a night stand, a 8 seats dining table (which they have to disassemble in two pieces one of them a huge glass), an 11in sofa (which they have to disassemble in 4 pieces) and a bike. In addition to the above items, we had 48 boxes (between small, medium and large sizes - Home Depot standard) and 20 loose packs. I put numbers in each box/pack and I asked them to tell me every single item they put in the truck so I could check them. They were really patient to do that. Once at the new home they assemble the dining table and the sofa and we took care of the rest. It took the guys 5.5 hours to finish everything and we paid around $640 after tax and before tips. We could clearly see that they were putting every effort to be fast, however I don't know exactly why (I didn't ask) it took them a lot of time to arrive from the old apartment to the new one. We live in Chicago downtown and we moved on the same day than the Hawks parade, maybe that's why, but we arrived home at least 40 minutes before them. At the end of the day the guy asked me to go to the truck to confirm that nothing had been left behind. As an additional measure, when I packed our stuff, I put all the fragile boxes at one place, and only let them put in the truck at the end. The only thing that broke was something that we packed by ourselves and that when my husband was packing I saw that wasn't protected enough cause I remember mentioned this to him at that time. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS!!!! I used Jay Movers to move my 3 bedroom townhouse of belongings to storage on 9/28/2013 and 9/29/2013. What a nightmare! I had provided the company an extremely thorough and very detailed itemized list, including measurements of some furniture pieces, how many boxes I had, including sizes of boxes (I packed everything myself), the fact I had a spinet piano, full size arcade game, that I would need them to properly pack 13 very large pieces of art work, and that some of the furniture items would need to go out a second floor window due to not being able to make it around the bottom stairwell. The estimate the company gave me was reasonable, but knowing it was still just an estimate, I was prepared that I might have to pay more in the end. I thought perhaps even double. Imagine my horror when the job came in 4x the estimate!!! Instead of the 7 1/2 hours, including moving time, with 4 men per the estimate, I was charged 18 hours with five men! The men knew how upset I was and two of them indicated the scheduler at the company had under estimated before, always leaving them to deal with angry customers. Pointing fingers became their line of defense. To this day, I don't know if the scheduler is this incompetent (the company keeps him on regardless) or if this company practices the old bait and switch game. They were recommended by my son who had used them, his girlfriend who had used them, and I had read reviews here on Yelp. They might be OK if all you have is a studio or one bedroom to move with minimal belongings, but I would avoid them if your move is substantial. You will become prey and have to pay way over the top. read more

I had a great experience with Jay Movers. The 3 man crew showed up as scheduled and worked hard to complete the task quickly; but doing it with great care to not damage my belongings. They shrink wrapped most of the furniture which will help to protect my stuff as it sits in storage and they also used blankets on the furniture that contained glass. BK Lewis (office staff) was very helpful in arranging the move and he estimated that it would take 4 hours and they finished in 4 hours and 7 minutes! Jay Movers helped me for my last two moves, and they were phenomenal each time. They were on-time (a little early even!) and were anxious to get started. They were unbelievably fast loading up the truck. It was fun and extremely impressive to watch them wrap all the furniture and haul boxes like they were nothing. They were able to navigate a tricky side entrance and get everything into our apartment without any scratches or broken items. Had my 2nd floor one bedroom packed up in 50 mins, were to my new apartment in 20, and had it unloaded in about 60. They were nice guys too. Handled some boxes roughly, but I told them nothing in them was fragile. I moved the fragile stuff on my own and would have done this with any moving company. Jay Movers was great. I went to their website and got a quote. They called and emailed me within 10 minutes of my inquiry. I called an confirmed the week before, no problems. The day of the move they were about an hour early which was not necessarily a bad thing. They moved us quickly and without incident. They were very nice, hard working and really knew what they were doing. After the move was over Jay Movers called me and asked me if there were any problems and wanted to know how things went. After doing a lot of research (e.g., calling several companies, checking reviews on the web, comparing prices), we decided on Jay Movers. What a mistake... Let me take you through our experience with them. We called originally to get a quote and thought, "Wow, this sounds like a great deal!" Their quote was several hundred dollars cheaper than other moving companies, and the salesperson over the phone seemed very nice and personable. The experience was very good, actually, up until the actual move. They contacted us to confirm, provided e-mail confirmation, and seemed quite together. Then came the move. They arrived on-time, and the lead mover had me sign the form indicating the quote and time. The only problem is, the mover's quote was over $300.00 higher than the original quote...double the price!! I asked why this was so much higher and he showed me that they anticipated it would take longer than expected because of us being on a higher floor, etc., etc. Although I could understand this, this is not at all what the person quoting us said we should expect, even when they knew that we were on higher floors. So, I signed the forms and off they went...well, after 30 minutes of positioning the truck several different times with the other guys standing around. As they started moving things, I realized quickly that the markings on the box and my suggestions to be careful were either not understood (because of a language barrier) or not acknowledged. We have very nice and expensive furniture, etc., and they were walking it up and down the stairs like it was on its way to the consignment shop. For example, I watched as one mover grabbed our expensive white cloth living room chair with his dirty hands (and he applied no protective covering, blanket, etc.) and bumped it on the walls, door jams, and outdoor handrails all the way down to the moving truck...What!?! Needless to say it needed professionally cleaned after this. Same with our couch...I don't know if we'll ever get the dirt stains out of our Crate and Barrel couch cushions after the mess. Even the things that they did wrap (e.g., an expensive dresser, headboards, etc.) were quite banged up and damaged (finish torn off, cracks/dents in the wood, etc.) by careless handling. What's worse was opening the boxes after they left, only to find shattered wine glasses, fine china, and other glass items destroyed. To make matters worse, the movers took quite a few "breather" breaks and a 30 minute break for lunch (in which I bought them pizza). Oh course, I'm fine with people taking breaks, but you can imagine my shock at the end when I find that they charged me for every single minute of break time they took. I'm not paying people $100/hour to take breaks in a 6 hour span, and it was even more insulting to have made an effort to be nice and provide pizza and pop, only to find me regretting that I ever did that either. And, 6 hours to move a 2 bedroom to a few blocks away? Really? The only reason they get 2 stars from me is that the moving guys who came were nice guys. I just don't think they thought about and/or cared that this stuff was fragile. The most appalling part was speaking with the owner about my concerns, afterward. Excuses, excuses, excuses..."oh, you had higher floors so it would cost more", "oh, they are trained well and these things happen". Well, sir, this hasn't happened with any other moving company I've used. I also inquired about the concerns related to the damaged/broken property...his reply, "oh, put it in a box and we insure you 30 cents per pound for broken things". Are you kidding? 30 cents per pound will not replace fine china, wine glasses, or expensive furniture. When discussing the pay for breaks his response was "you expect them to work without breaks?" My answer was that they are welcome to take breaks; however, I do not pay for their breaks...that is not included in the figure (although I guess now it is one more of the hidden costs). To top it off, the owner stated that he would credit us for 1/2 hour to absorb some of the break-time, but, what do you know...no credit a month later. Beware of this company. They will be reported to the BBB. Please do not be fooled by their website or assurances...it's all about how the story ends, and in this case, it's with banged up furniture, a lot less money than I planned on spending, and broken glass. Thank goodness we moved the lamps, picture frames, computer, etc., before the movers came. read more

I was extremely pleased with Jay Movers when they helped us with our cross-town move a couple years ago and I have recommended them to friends ever since, but it wasn't until I've moved a few more times in different parts of the country that I realized how good I had it with Jay Movers. These guys were extremely careful and SO efficient. We had a really difficult and annoying job with some very large items and multiple pick-up locations all over the city and they completed it faster and more cost-efficiently than any mover since. They didn't even flinch when a couch wouldn't fit in the elevator and they had to carry it up four flights of stairs. They moved two apartments worth of stuff (and we're talking about a LOT of stuff) from two separate locations to a third location, covering about 40 miles, in the same time it just took another moving company to move 1/3 the amount of stuff a mile and a half across town. I wish I could remember the exact dollar amounts now but they were right on target with their initial quote. PLUS they were on time, didn't bill for any weird add-ons, and were very nice guys. This is hands down the best moving company ever, and I've moved way too many times. Loved them. So much. read more

Incredible from beginning to end! I had never hired movers before but due to the timing of my move (middle of the week and a little over a week before running the marathon), I figured it may be best to go that route. I didn't receive word on the time and date I could move into the new place until less than 2 weeks out. I contacted several moving companies and no one could fit me in---I was getting extremely nervous. I then managed to find Jay Movers on one of my searches and received a call within 5 minutes of completing a form online. They were easily able to fit me in on the day and time I needed to move. Booking was a snap and I thought the pricing was very reasonable for 3 men and a truck! ($343 for 3 hours and travel time) Due to having never used movers before, I was a little nervous. I had read the reviews on yelp and they were mostly positive so that gave me a little comfort. I may have done some poor scheduling as the movers were coming at 4, RCN was scheduled between 5 and 8 and I had to go pick up a couch at 7:30 in Lincoln Square. There was lots of opportunity for everything to fall apart. But thanks to Jays, it did not! I actually worked the day of my move as there was nothing else really left to do at the old place but move and clean. I had planned on leaving at 3pm to get home with some time to spare before the movers showed up. Around 2:30 I received a phone call saying the crew had finished their previous appointment early and could come ASAP. I left work and hurried home and they were outside waiting (with my concerns on all the close scheduling of things later that evening---this was a great thing). As soon as I walked up to my place, they offered to help me with the few things I had with me. Once the paperwork was out of the way(by the way cause a negative commentor said something, the start time recorded was when I signed the paperwork while the other guys were pulling the truck around to the alley--they did not start time when they arrived at my apartment waiting for me to come home), they got straight to work! Polite, considerate, and most important-efficient. I even had a chance to do some cleaning reducing the time I was going to have to spend on it later. I had bought gatorade for the guys and they didn't even stop for that! Both places had dreadful strairs and they never winced(carrying 3 to 4 boxes at a tiem mind you!). They handled everything with extreme care and not a thing was broken or damaged in the process. They worked fast because as one guy said--I was the last appointment of the day so the quicker they are, the more money I save and the sooner they get to go home. They put stuff down in storage that I didn't need, set up my bed and it ended up being less than quoted-there were no extra costs. RCN was also early but still began just as the movers were finishing up--I had time for everything regardless of the tight schedule. There is not a single negative thing I could say about Jay Movers. We used Jay Movers recently (June 2011). We had a wonderful experience. To begin with we were able to book with only a week's notice. The price was much better than all the other quotes I found. The 3 man crew headed up by Juan was great. They were on time, very professional and FAST! I did see a review or two that mentioned being weary of their breakables so I put a few boxes aside for my car and my boyfriend made sure to let the guys know that we really needed them to be careful about scratching the walls - they listened to our concerns and were very careful. Fabulous experience! Had a rather complicated move (four stops, potentially disasterous). They were great. "Hara" in the office was on top of it all, very friendly and VERY professional. The guys showed up a little early for the 8 a.m. start time. They were careful and fast. (Eddie, Jorge and Ramon -- you're the best!) On Stop #3, the sofa wouldn't fit in the elevator, so they hauled it down to the other end of the building to see if that elevator would work. Alas, it did not, but they tried everything. The quote was very close to the 6-1/2 hours they estimated -- I paid for 45 minutes additional because of the sofa fiasco. Really, who likes moving? This team made it almost painless. The guys were extremely professional and made sure everything is wrapped tight and organized in the truck. I kept asking for additional things, such as carry some items to my car, and they were very nice and did everything that I asked. This is my 6th move and by FAR the worst moving company that I have ever hired in Chicago!!! Do NOT hire Jay Movers EVER! Unless you want to do the move yourself. Here are a couple of highlights from our move: 1) Our team of three movers was brand new - and therefor, extremely inefficient and stood around and watched each other work. You're paying by the hour - so if you want the quote they give you to be accurate, just double the price, since they will make sure to keep the clock ticking. It took them twice as long to move us and cost 1.5 times the cost. 2) They arrived n a non-professional, Enterprise, rent-a-truck 3)They stated to us that their truck was too small (i.e. Enterprise should have given them a bigger truck to complete the move - ummmmm....shouldn't you be using your OWN moving truck?!?!?!) 4) They didn't know how to load the truck 5) when i Finally was BEGGING them to hurry up (we only had the elevators until 6 pm at the place I was moving to - and it was 6:15 pm and they were STILL at my old place, so I walked down to the truck to see how it was going - there was stuff EVERYWHERE and they couldn't figure out how to fit it all on the truck. I had asked my husband to go to the new place to beg the doorman not to shut down the moving elevator. I started directing the movers as to how to load the remaining furniture. They STILL couldn't close the back of the truck, so they used ropes to tie it half-way closed. 6) Once the truck was loaded (finally) they LOST THE KEYS to the truck!!!!!! That took them ANOTHER 20 minutes to find the keys (which we were charged for their time in looking for the keys) 7) They drove off without loading my lamp - so I ran down the street chasing after them with the lamp (I am also 8 months pregnant - so that was fun). 8) They made my husband unload the boxes once we got to our new place 9) They didn't take their wrapping materials (i.e. shrink wrap off anything, such as the couch) - just stuck it in the room - I removed all the shrink wrap from the couches. 10) They literally watched my husband as he unloaded the elevators - he was completely drenched in sweat 11) They didn't re-assemble our bed when we got our new place 12) put dirty items into our freshly washed new baby crib 13) They didn't speak English so when we asked them to put a box in the bathroom, it would end up in the kitchen, or vice versa. 14) They then charged me 1.5 times the quoted price. DO NOT HIRE JAY MOVERS EVER! YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY UNHAPPY AND VERY OVERCHARGED. IF YOU DO HIRE THEM, ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE A LOT OF STRONG GUYS TO HELP YOU MOVE YOUR FURNITURE, AS JAY MOVERS WILL NOT DO IT FOR YOU!!!!!!!! I read all of these reviews about how wonderful Jay's Movers was, so I called for an estimated and was quoted $88/hr for 3 men and a truck by Oscar. Sounds great right, wrong. I called back and asked for the quote to be sent via e-mail. When it arrived, it stated $98/hr. Not to mention, when I called back for clarification, he said that he had given me the wrong rate. All in all, its still cheaper than most, but can they be trusted? I'll steer clear. read more

My fiance and I used Jay Movers to move from two places into one. Not only were they on time, but they were extremely efficient. They packed up my apartment in Lincoln Park and then headed nearly 5 miles northwest to get my fiance's items from his storage locker. Then they traveled back to Bucktown. I hired Jay Movers to help unload my truck when moving into an apartment downtown. I had called around to several other moving companies to compare prices. They were one of the cheapest movers I could find and their service did not disappoint. The two guys showed up early, were very friendly, knew exactly what they were doing, and GREAT help! They explained the minimum time requirement and went over how much I would be charged at the end of the day. They hustled and actually jogged at times to get the job done quickly! They always charge only for shrink-wrap, no surprises, you only pay what you got quoted, unless the move takes longer or shorter than anticipated. Was qouted for 3.5 hours at an affordable rate of $441 for a 700 sq ft studio from chicago to a home in the western suburbs and my move was done in 3.5 hours!! To give credit to my movers (Emanuel, Ricardo, and Eddie A) they would have been done in 3 hours but due to my apartment buildings fault in reserving my elevator time we were stalled by 30 min. They are very accuarte with their qoutes and very friendly. They did an excellent job and listened to directional well. Would highly reccomend these movers!! I used Jay Movers about 18 months ago and the move went ok. There were a few broken items, I call that the moving tax. A friend recently asked if I would recommend Jay Movers or not, I said they were pretty good & pricing was fair overall. He used them and had a decent move with only minor problems. This friend had a small upright piano he was wanting to give to my Mom but we weren't able to move it then, so it sat in his old place for a few days until I could get to it. Jay Movers quoted him at that time, $300 to move the piano at a later date. I called today and inquired about getting that done. They told me that my buddy is a liar and that they would look him in the face and tell him he was lying. I could not believe they would say this. My buddy has no reason to lie at all. If they wanted to say he was mistaken, fine. For them to totally disrespect a customer like this to me is unforgiveable. This is one of the huge problems I have with so many businesses these days. ZERO customer service. I, for one will NOT use Jay Movers again and will NEVER refer anyone to them. There are companies out there who treat people fairly and I choose to find those. read more

They came over to look at the amount that we would need to move ahead of time, they called to confirm the move time, they were prompt, and very polite. I was referred to Jay Movers by a friend - she said they would be on-time, quick and reasonably priced. My movers, Terry, Ricardo, and Ossie arrived on time (actually 15 minutes early) and had me out of my old apartment and into my new place within 2 hours.
