Complaint: All My Sons Moving & Storage / New City Moving Background Warning to Consumers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not use All My Sons / New City without: Independent written confirmation of your chosen coverage. Refusing to pay until coverage is accurately reflected in your signed documents. New City Moving (Chicago) was acquired by All My Sons Moving & Storage (Dallas, TX). Since the acquisition, decisions appear to come from Texas, while the Chicago team simply executes orders. For all practical purposes, New City now operates as All My Sons--with unfortunately, corporate bullying. In my experience, All My Sons reneged on written agreements provided by New City Moving, leaving me with extensive damage and refusing to honor coverage I paid for. I strongly urge anyone considering New City Moving and All My Sons to get everything in writing before making payment. If issues arise, insist on written correction before releasing final payment. Timeline of Events June 3, 2025 - Received a fully executed moving estimate from New City with Option 3: Full Replacement Value Protection selected. June 20, 2025 - Received a move confirmation from New City. Option 3 protection was omitted, defaulting to $0.30/lb coverage--contradicting my estimate. The confirmation stated: "Regardless of prior selection, final valuation is selected at time of Bill of Lading on move day." (p. 2 of 2, Confirmation CIDxxxxxxx) Since this was in writing, I did not question it and intended to make my final selection on move day. June 25, 2025 (midnight, during move) - On speakerphone with a New City representative, in the presence of the lead mover (L.) and my spouse, I finalized valuation per the earlier confirmation and paid over $11,000 via AMEX for the move, of which, $200 for Option 2: $20,000 Full Value Protection. (Option 3 was no longer available, but given the timing, I did not push back.). I then received an emailed file showing only $0.30/lb coverage and immediately raised the issue online with New City. I was told a manual override was required since it was past midnight and the office was closed, but was reassured I would hear from the office the next day. June 27, 2025 - Received written confirmation from New City (L.N., Confirmations Manager) acknowledging my $200 payment and $20,000 declared value protection. However, no updated file was issued reflecting the declared value. Early July - Submitted a $25,000 damage claim with photos and comparables. Damaged items included: Room & Board armoire (destroyed) Baldwin piano (soundboard damaged; inspected by 3rd party) Baker breakfront (both sides dented/scratched) Artwork (destroyed) Table glass (chipped) Multiple dents/scratches to furniture and wall damage requiring repair July 16, 2025 - Received a settlement offer from All My Sons for $0.30/lb coverage only. July 18, 2025 - Provided proof of additional coverage, including written confirmation and receipt. New City Operations Manager (Y.O.) confirmed my payment, spoke with All My Sons' Claims Specialist A.W., and later Y.O. told me the issue was "squared away" with A.W. July 22, 2025 - A.W. acknowledged the call with Y.O. and resubmission and said an "updated offer" was forthcoming. July 28, 2025 - A.W. reversed position, denied documentation existed, and claimed that even if Option 2 were honored, it would result in a lower payout than $0.30/lb--an absurd assertion. July 29, 2025 - A.W. issued a "final offer" of $1,556, admitting I was charged for additional coverage (though misstating $50 instead of $200), but refused to honor it, citing the Bill of Lading. The final offer included a refund of the $50 pain for additional coverage. L.N. and Y.O. have now gone quiet. I assume All My Sons instructed both to refrain from any further help. August 1, 2025 - Text exchange with the original founder of New City (B.S.). B.S. reviewed my documentation and called All My Sons' refusal a "scam." He attempted to intervene with their management but no resolution followed. August 4, 2025 - Text exchange with All My Son's District Manager, R.D., ended with "J.S., I know you worked with B.S. in the past and the experience with the NCM team was not up to par. So what can I do to make this right."? ... "Myself I have communicated with them about how you purchased valudation all I can do is refund money on your card". Current Status BBB complaint filed - no response from All My Sons to date. Complaints filed with the Illinois and Texas Attorneys General. BBB advised: if unresolved, pursue small claims court. Conclusion All My Sons (operating under the New City Moving name) accepted payment for $20,000 declared value coverage, issued written acknowledgment, and then refused to honor it--falling back to $0.30/lb liability. In my view, this practice is deceptive, unethical, and potentially fraudulent. Consumers deserve transparency and accountability when entrusting a company with their homes and belongings. read more

Bottomline: We are going to go with New City Moving for our next move and we are going to recommend them to friends and family. ------ This was our first "grown up" move with actual grown up furniture to a new city so it was quite stressful. We found some moving companies, requested quotes from 3 and at the end decided to go with New City Moving. Move details: From 2nd floor one bedroom to a 39th floor one bedroom - about an hour of travel time We have heavy ( more than 1600 lbs) and oversized rh furniture and I wanted them to be first shrink wrapped, then protected with blankets and secured by tapes. Moving day: They arrived on time and started working immediately. Boxes were moved to the truck and they wrapped everything. Library doors, dresser drawers and the bed needed disassembly which were done with care and eventually everything was loaded into the truck. We underestimated the time needed for wrapping & loading and then there was traffic so by the time we arrived at our new place, we had only about 20 minutes left of our elevator time but the guys (I am so sorry we forgot your names - Carlos I believe, was the foreman) worked so fast that the bedroom furniture and a lot of our stuff were up by the end of our time. Then by the time they reassembled the bed and had a quick lunch, the other move was done and fortunately we could have the elevator again and rest of the stuff were unloaded as well. Crisis: We faced one big problem though that could have become a very stressful and upsetting experience for us. Our sofa could not fit in the freight elevator. The guys called us down and tried it three times from three different directions but it was just not possible. The person who was in charge of the dock and worked for the building did not allow us to store the sofa in their storage for few days until we find a solution or leave it the hallway that is absolutely understandable. Then Carlos suggested that he calls a guy who works with the company, I think, to take apart the sofa and then reassemble it inside the apartment. Size of my eyes just doubled because I never thought this is possible - not at least not for a sofa like this. Then we had the problem of storage, it was weekend, late afternoon and the only place we had was the lower lower wacker dr for a $4000 sofa!!! Then Carlos again came to our help, called the company and arranged for the sofa to be kept at the truck at a lower cost than usual. Next day we talked to Trini and he said he could disassemble and reassemble the sofa. We also talked to Sean to arrange for this job and he said that he had used Trini's service before and he was satisfied. He also told us that this happens at least half-a-dozen times per year so he knows what he is doing and my god he was right. Trini is truly an Artist - the couch came disassembled as minimum as required and within 2 hours it was better than the original - now I say better because he used special screws in some places instead of those wood-connectors so that it will be easy to do it again for our next move. Oh! forgot to mention that because of the whether, they had to keep the sofa for two extra nights in the truck as Trini could not work in the rain and they generously did not charge extra for those two nights. Sean is extremely helpful, responsive (to all my 30 emails and questions), cares a lot about his customers and has attention to details that is quite important - rarely see someone as enthusiastic and professional. They all did a good job, especially Carlos who was very helpful. We will definitely go with them again. Room for improvement? Always I wish they had more tools - not for the sake of our furniture but the sake of their health to make this move more ergonomic for themselves. This really upset us. Things such as moving straps for lifting things that could not be placed on a dolly, dolly for boxes instead of strapping them on their back (some of those boxes are quite heavy), some kind of lift for loading and unloading heavy stuff in and out of the truck. Two of the four guys who came to our home were not as young and as strong, very nice though, and we were worried they would hurt themselves every time they'd lift something heavy. It is not even right for the young and strong ones. I know those tool mean extra expenses but they are considered basic necessities for moving. They can't take off their shoes or wear shoe covers for safety reasons - absolutely understandable - and they offer carpet protection tape. If I'd known there is such as thing, I would have bought few rolls myself and covered the carpet. They used one roll but it did not cover that much, after all it was in the afternoon, we were all tired and had the elevator for 20 minutes so we were in a hurry. This is something that should be done in advance so maybe let the customer know they have that option? This was my second time utilizing the company and after calling and emailed Mr. Slater himself we were able to come to a resolution. Things happen especially when you are moving; below is a letter that highlights my experience. I think you should pick New City Moving as your mover because if something does go wrong Mr. Slater will make it right. I am highly satisfied with the resolution and will use New City Moving again. Dear Mr. Slater, I am writing you today to share my experience with your company; New City Moving, Inc. Having utilized your company one year prior with Jose; I was delighted with anticipation for another easy and smooth move. Everything went as planned until moving day on July 29, 2016. My move was scheduled at 8pm and I was absolutely thrilled when your team arrived 5:45pm. John and his team arrived and I explained that we were trying to load a 5' X 12' uhaul cargo. John explained that everything would not fit and we would need to fold the mattress in half. Understanding that John is the expert I asked if I could research that before deciding to proceed. After a couple google searches it was clear that folding a king size tempurpedic mattress in half for any period of time would ruin the mattress. I explained to John that two items that absolutely needed to make it in the uhaul were my bed and a table that I built with my dad. John agreed and we all grabbed boxes to bring down. Understanding that this was the last move of the day I then offered all three movers bottled waters. As we took another trip of boxes, I recommended that we get the table and bed in first? I am no expert but felt that this logically made sense given the fact that John said it wouldn't all fit. While the movers carried the mattress down I heard glass shatter at the bottom of the stairs. I came running down, everyone was out at the uhaul and there was broken glass everywhere. I came upstairs and grabbed a broom and went back down, not one of the movers acknowledged the broken light fixture or commented as I swept it all up. After the next trip, I then asked John if he was going to apologize for the light fixture? He said " if an apology would make me feel better then I'm sorry." In shock with Johns attitude I decided to keep quite for the duration of the move and try and get through this. Helping as much as possible, the movers were clearly tired as I passed them on the stairs up and down to the uhaul. After an hour of helping load the uhaul, I had about enough. The table was never put in the uhaul and now at the end of my move it did not fit in the uhaul. However, two feet of valuable space still remained at the back of the Uhaul. This obviously is a problem when driving as everything will shift and change. Upon speaking to a representative on the phone I expressed my frustration with the new city moving Inc. exprience thus far and he said he would have someone call me on Monday; I then supplied my credit card details. I thanked him for noting the file and I look forward to the call on Monday. After the movers left, I then had to take the table back upstairs, pick up the water bottles that were left by your team in the yard and uhaul, remove all the tape on all of the doors, and then I had to call myself a cab. I went to Home Depot to replace the light fixture that was broken. After returning home I then had to take apart the table to put it in the uhaul. Please note that I never received a call from New City Moving, Inc. on Monday. So on Tuesday August 2, 2016 I called to speak with customer service. I spoke with Jessie and explained the whole situation, having a missed opportunity with the fixture, the attitude from John, the complication with the way things were packed and now no follow up from customer service? Jessie listened and apologized however, she explained that she needed to speak with my landlord. Regrettably, I still do not understand why that is necessary? I selected New City Moving, Inc., I paid for the poor customer service, I bought the fixture and now I am fighting to get my full security deposit back. Jessie then explained that she would need pictures of the broken fixture as John and the team did not indicate anything was broken? I immediately sent an email to Jessie with two photographs that I am fortunate to have taken of the broken light fixture. On Thursday evening I received a response from Jessie that the pictures were helpful but without being in contact with my landlord nothing will be done. I paid $300 for a one hour and fifteen minute move. I called a cab to go and purchase a light fixture that your team broke and I am still trying to get my security deposit back from my landlord. TL;DR - New City Moving is the best, my team was the best, and they have earned a loyal customer for life. I expect to be moving again in a year or so and will be requesting Ricky, Cruz, and Renee, by name. This was the easiest and most efficient move I've ever experienced. The move was started ahead of schedule, finished early, cost less than the estimate and not a single thing was damaged or missing. --- Wow. Moving was almost a pleasant experience. If New City Moving can make that happen, I think we should point them towards solving the national debt or climate change next. These folks can apparently make the impossible happen. But more seriously, this was not an easy move for me and yet it felt very painless. I had to book on short notice due to finding a sublet near the end of the month for my apartment. Fortunately, I was only moving about 4 or 5 blocks away, in East Lakeview. I set up the appointment with Sara, who was nice as can be and patiently answered my endless questions. I filled out the online estimate form in about 10 minutes and was shocked at how much crap I needed to move. Sara called back to review the estimate with me and we were all set. I received confirmation calls the day before as well as the morning of the move. I had no doubts about whether they would remember my appointment. My move was scheduled for 1 pm on Monday, but received a call that morning asking if I could start earlier. Who the hell ever does anything earlier than scheduled these days?! I said, "Sure, I'm ready to go" and my moving team arrived around 11:00 am, almost two hours early. Unbelievable. Finally, we're at the best part of this move - my crew. Foreman Ricky, Renee, and Cruz. These guys were awesome! Polite, professional, and very friendly, despite having to move me in frigid, single digit temperatures. I wouldn't have faulted them for a surly attitude, but they were smiling, laughing, and joking with me. They securely packaged my furniture and wall art and loaded up the truck in record time. You wouldn't think it to look at them, but they are strong as hell too. Folks, don't mouth off to them at the bar - I guarantee anyone of them could deadlift you over their heads and then break you in half over their knee. Ricky has been doing this for 10 years and it shows. He knew the building I was moving to and already knew the best way to move my stuff in. These guys were cruising and were steadily streaming boxes into my new place. Then, suddenly, I didn't see them for about ten minutes. I had no idea what was going on. I come to find out that half my sectional couch won't fit. They disappeared because they were examining every possible method of getting it into the building. When Ricky finally came to me, he was certain they couldn't get it in. Given all the ways he tried, I trusted his assessment. Like I said, the guy knows his stuff. He gave me the option to call a guy he knows who dismantles and reassembles furniture for situations like this. I appreciated the fact that he had an immediate option for me, but I declined and opted to move it into my storage unit (I'm only planning on being in this apartment for a year). Cut to my storage unit. I'm crapping my pants because this part of the sectional is big and I'm not sure I have enough room left over for it. The guys are unperturbed. I'm learning to trust their calm. Within five minutes of opening my unit, they have a bunch of room cleared out, the couch securely positioned, and I have more space available in the unit than I did before, even with a fracking couch in it! I'm telling you, these guys are amazing. Even with this unexpected crisis, they still finished ahead of schedule and under estimate. 10/10: Would Move Again! (Bullshit. 5 Stars does not fully encapsulate my WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE with New City Moving! The past 3 months have been especially stressful because my boyfriend and I had been waiting to move into an apartment which ultimately never happened. We found a new place and were eager to finally settle in. Move in was scheduled on a Thursday. Late Wednesday afternoon (less than 24 hours from our move-in time) I unexpectedly had to cancel the movers that were initially scheduled to help us due to their lack of insurance. About 4PM I frantically began calling a number of moving companies to see not only if they could round up a crew last minute but also be able to submit their insurance to our building before 10AM Thursday morning. The latter was especially challenging, as moving offices were closing soon and by the time they opened the following morning they wouldn't be able to submit the insurance info to the building on time for the move in at 1:30 PM. Yet another delay in our 3 month rocky move-in adventure. Just when I thought all hope was lost and we would have to wait until the following week to move (I couldn't move the following weekend because I was going out of town, thus our move would be delayed further) I reached out to New City Moving. I had actually been referred to New City from ANOTHER moving company, which only exemplifies the rapport they have within their own industry! When I called New City I spoke with the fabulously kind, helpful Sarah Jane. After relaying my last minute dilemma I expected to hear the same response I had received from the previous companies, namely that there would be absolutely no way to schedule a move the following day. Quite the contrary! Not only was Sarah Jane able to round up a crew last minute AND fax the insurance info to the building IN TIME for the move, she made it seem as if I wasn't asking anything unusual. She (and the New City Moving company) treated me like a human being, expressing understanding and a desire to ease my stress in this unexpected situation I had encountered. She even offered to call me the next morning to reassure me that the info had been faxed to the building. Only one of the myriad ways in which New City Moving goes out of their way to ensure a fantastic moving experience. What sets this company apart from others is that they treat their customers as human beings, demonstrating empathy for life's unexpected circumstances. They don't regard each customer as if they are just another name on the moving list, as many moving companies do. Moreover, the 3 movers I had couldn't be kinder or more efficient. I had underestimated the amount of furniture to be moved and despite how much longer it took to move my items (which they hadn't planned) they continued the moving process, no questions asked and did not make me feel bad about providing the wrong information. That's class! Because the process ended up taking longer than expected (because of the additional items for which I hadn't accounted) we had to continue the move in process the following morning. When I talked to Brian, the owner, about my situation he made it seem like it was no problem to pick up the process the next day. He immediately eased my stress and even arranged for the same crew to help me! Long story short, New City Moving is BY FAR THE BEST moving company out there. In addition to being extremely efficient they employ individuals who care about you, who want to help you all throughout your moving process. We chose New City because of the fantastic reviews and now have to add one as well! Caryn provided an initial estimate but also setup a site survey. We had never used movers before so, we were shocked at the initial estimate amount. We thought that the price would surely go down after the site survey and were shocked, once again, when it came back even higher. They suggested a 6 man crew which we thought was overkill. We were moving from a 1400 SF ranch (with a basement), a 2-1/2 car garage and a shed. They also sent 2 trucks which was great, considering all of the garage and outdoor items were packed on a separate truck. We had a small window of time for the load in Villa Park because the guys start at 8am and our closing for our new house was at 11am in Downers Grove. I received a phone call at 7:50 from the crew leader stating that they would be 45 minutes late which did not make us happy at all. I immediately thought, "Uh Oh, here we go...". I called New City and relayed my frustration. The crew ended up being only 30 minutes late which made us happy but we were still worried about the time-frame. Well, here's where things get good... The crew was absolutely fantastic! They worked hard, fast and efficiently. The way they wrapped and packaged our furniture was amazing. The way they loaded the truck, even better. About an hour and a half into the move I received a phone call from the owner of New City Moving and he said that he was just informed of my earlier phone call and wanted to make sure they did right by us. He provided me with his personal cell phone number and said that he wanted me to call him after the move to insure we were satisfied! Needless to say, we made it to closing and the unloading went just as well. When we arrived at our new house, the former owner's moving company was still there finishing up and this is when I really got an appreciation for New City. Their moving crew was very unorganized and the inside of their trucks looked like the trucks had been rolled over a few times after the load. It was awful and we would be surprised if they didn't have damage to their items. When all was said and done, the actual price came in lower than estimated which was also awesome but I would have paid the higher price because it was worth every penny! After the crew left, we got caught up in unpacking and totally forgot to call the owner back. To my surprise, he called us the next day (a Saturday) to follow up with me and I communicated our satisfaction. He said he was sending us a Starbucks gift card for the trouble and I got it, as stated, a few days later. We cannot say enough about the professionalism of this company. From the office, to the crew, all the way up to the owner - they do things right! One more thing we think is important to mention and something we really liked was that all of their movers are employees and NOT day labor. Took the plunge and moved to the suburbs over the weekend from Logan Square. We were very skeptical about who we picked to do our move and decided on New City, solely based off of Yelp reviews. They did a good job overall on the physical move. They had an estimator come out and he quoted a number that was pretty high ($1200), highest of all of the quotes we got, saying that since I already owned my new house and was already moving things on my own, it'd be less. It was, just not by much, considering how many trips I made with a loaded SUV to the burbs and back. They arrived 15 minutes earlier than the 8 AM arrival I booked, which in my opinion was great. Of course it started raining, but they kept moving, even through the down pour. The only thing that kept me from giving a 5 star rating was their travel time. I left the city, and my wife stayed behind, and it took me 25 minutes to get to my house in the burbs - there was no traffic on 290, even none between Austin and Harlem. My wife called me at 10:15 and said they were just leaving and they were going to stop for a drink. They didn't get to my house until noon. I just don't think it should've taken them an hour and 45 minutes to drive to my house, when it only took me 25. I figured an hour tops in a loaded moving truck. I kept listening to the traffic report on Sirius channel 135 to see if there was a delay and there was not. The whole move, from the 7:45 AM start until the truck was empty and he told me he was ready to talk about the bill at around 1:30, was 5 hours and 45 minutes (I used the timer app). I'm pretty sure I paid more than I should've, because I paid for their drink break - not sure why they don't have a cooler in the truck loaded with Gatorade and water. Luckily, I don't plan on moving for 10 years or more...and when I move next, I will get more than 4 hours sleep the night before because by the time they had unloaded everything, the amount of work I had to do, esp. with 2 little kids running around, was extensive and it really wasn't worth the hassle of arguing over. **05/17/12 - Update** New City read my review and contacted me. They apologized the trip took longer than it should've and corrected the over-calculation and refunded the difference. I'm very impressed that not only did they rectify the situation immediately, but they also read the reviews to see how people view them. Many companies could care less. I appreciate the good will and have updated my review to 5 stars. The crew really did a great job over all, my only issue was the travel time. I'd definitely recommend New City to others. One thing the moving crew did do that I really appreciated and didn't mention earlier is prior to wrapping furniture up in blankets, they called me over and made sure I was aware there were dents or scratches in my furniture. New City Movers were an absolute dream to work with. We recently moved across the country from Chicago to Los Angeles, and we priced out 5-6 movers before going with New City. While it was the most expensive option, it was worth every penny. Specific pros and cons below. Pros: - While I was pricing movers, Alison gave me a very detailed comparison of New City and the competitors we were considering. It's never apples to apples with moving companies, but she was very attentive and admitted they weren't the cheapest option, but could offer more than the competitors listed. - They did a FaceTime walk-through in lieu of in-home (due to COVID), and the estimator was extremely impressive and efficient. I walked her around the house and she caught things I didn't even call out! They've clearly been doing this a long time. - The movers were 15 minutes late picking up, but we received a call half an hour before their arrival time to let us know they'd be late. This was great because we were able to give our apartment building a heads up. - The movers were SPEEDY. They had everything from our 1-bedroom + den in the truck in just over two hours. - We got text updates every night, letting us know where our driver and truck were stopping for the night! This really helped put my mind at ease. - Our stuff was delivered in FIVE DAYS!! That's unheard of! Especially across the country, where other movers were quoting 14-21 days. I was in shock when they picked up on a Thursday and delivered on Tuesday. - I had to shift our drop-off time back by an hour and they accommodated us with no problems - even though I knew they had another drop off after ours. - We had the same driver, the same truck, the same crew moving us in in LA as moving us out in Chicago. It was nice to see familiar faces! - They only took about 2 hours to move us in! Cons: - It was a little confusing figuring out who my rep was. First it was Ronan. Then Alison. Then Antoinette. I would have liked to have had one person as my "go to" so I knew all the details were being handled by the same person. - When the team showed up in Chicago, the foreman asked if he could remove his mask while we did the paperwork. I ask that he and the crew keep their mask on, and he said, "Well it gets hot when we move and it's hard to breathe so we'll be taking our masks off once we start moving." I get it, but I'm not messing around with COVID. I was pretty put off that he insisted they remove their masks when we're in the middle of a pandemic. - They broke a few of our items, and the reaction was, "Well, we told you some things would break." They weren't high-value items (and our high-value items made it in perfect condition!) so we're not mad at all; just more of an annoyance. For the record - New City never offered me money or a gift card to write this review. I was leery of signing with them after I saw that on Yelp, but I'm so glad we went with them. My husband and I were moving out of our jam-packed 2 Bed/1.5 Bath Chicago condo and I was 5 months pregnant...so, we decided to go with professional movers for the first time. We are SOOO glad we did and since working with New City Moving, we'll never deal with the difficulty of moving ourselves again! A few of the reasons why we chose New City Moving: * Every time I called (for a quote or with questions), they helped me right then (this was very much appreciated as another company I tried to get a quote from took a message and NEVER called back and ANOTHER company emailed that they received my quote request and would follow up in 24 hours...they never did). * They were able to accommodate our need for overnight storage of our belongings (only an extra $100) * Everyone we spoke with was friendly, positive and professional * The process of getting a quote and reserving our move date was quick and easy * New City Moving's quote was the least expensive of the quotes I received AND they take credit cards for jobs over $500 So, move Day 1 came around and everything went great! We worked with Rob's team of movers and they were awesome. They called early in the day and asked if we'd be ready an hour earlier than scheduled for our move. We were ready to get the heck out and were glad to be able to get an earlier start. Of course on move day, the elevator dedicated for moving was broken. The guys still managed to get our stuff out quickly and efficiently with no complaints using the smaller elevator (interrupted by other building residents using the normal elevator) and the stairs. Oh, and it also managed to drizzle in the middle of the move which must have been pretty uncomfortable for them. But, they wrapped our furniture so well, the rain wasn't a concern when it came to our belongings. The following day, Rob's team delivered our stuff to our new home in the burbs. Again, he called that morning and asked if we'd be ready early for them to make the delivery. And again, we were thrilled to get an earlier start on moving in. Day 2 was extremely hot yet the guys moved quickly and got our stuff in place in no time. They were very considerate of our home's white carpets and laid down moving blankets just to be safe (since it had rained the previous day). Overall the quote was for 7 hours of move time total for both days. Rob and his team managed to finish 2 hours earlier than expected and therefore saved us money (plus they used less supplies than quoted which ALSO saved us money). The yelp rating has it right--New City Moving is truly as good as it gets. Our move was from a small high rise with access through a tiny (tiny!) freight elevator, no truck access in the building, to an equally challenging situation--an apartment three-floors up, no elevator, lots of tight corners, and still, the whole job was done in under the quoted 5 hours. The moving team showed up on time, they worked fast, they worked hard, and they were wonderful about keeping us informed with next steps. Our team of movers: Cruz, Santos, Fidel, were incredibly fast, professional, personable, and were just amazing. I can't say enough good things about them. Every single aspect of any move that might be even a little bit stressful? They managed thoughtfully and quickly! Worried that your furniture will get damaged? Every medium-to-large piece of furniture was wrapped carefully with a blanket and saran wrap and not a single item was harmed. Each dining chair was individually wrapped! Worried that your boxes will take too long to transport? Cruz, Santos, and Fidel were all able to lift 4+ banker boxes full of books up 6 flights of stairs in one go, hardly breaking a sweat. Worried that you may want to move your furniture somewhere other than where you first indicated? I asked to have my bed moved in the new place. ...after the frame was set up. (I know, I am terrible.) There were no complaints, no frustration--Cruz just nodded politely, asked me how I wanted it, and made it happen. Worried that your movers might drag their feet to get another hour out of you? Not only was each member of the team hurrying up and down each flight of stairs (but with care!), after they wrapped up our move (faster than quoted, and completely, thoughtfully, carefully!) they hurried out to another job--because they're the best. They even threw in a few boxes for some of our irregularly-shaped things because we were unprepared. This was the easiest move, by far, I've ever experienced. New City Moving is the company for you, and Cruz, Santos, and Fidel are your crew. I promise, it's worth everything they charge, and more. Why else would I be writing this review, months after I first moved (again, I'm terrible, I know). I was initially so impressed with All My Sons dba "New City Moving". They quoted me $190/hr for labor plus a $290 flat fee, and I paid a $100 deposit. The team confirmed all the details ahead of time, including my request to move over 10 pieces of artwork. They estimated a 5-hour move with three men, and on the day of the move, they arrived promptly at 8 AM, worked efficiently, and completed the move-out by 1 PM. The move-in process at my new home started at 1 PM and wrapped up around 3 PM. Throughout the day, the team was respectful, careful with my belongings, and truly seemed to go the extra mile. I was so appreciative of their hard work that when the team lead, Sergio, requested a cash tip, I went to the ATM and withdrew $500 -- $200 of which I gave directly to the crew as they finished up. Unfortunately, this is where my experience took a sharp turn. I placed the remaining $300 in my purse, consisting of one $100 bill and $200 in $20 bills. After noticing the sky open up around 2:30 PM with heavy rain, I felt even more sympathetic to their efforts and decided to give them an additional $100. When I went to retrieve the money, I was shocked to find my purse had been disturbed and only $100 (in 20's) remained. To make matters worse, when I returned to my old apartment to finish cleaning, I found a pile of belongings left behind. Despite paying for a full-service move, it seems the crew simply decided some of my things weren't worth taking. The lack of communication and care was beyond frustrating. And if all of that wasn't enough, after providing my email address multiple times, I still have not received an itemized receipt, invoice, or a clear breakdown of charges. The final bill came to $2,145 -- almost twice the original estimate -- leaving me furious. After deducting the $100 deposit, I owed $2,045. I understand that moving is tough and unexpected factors can arise, but the dramatic increase in cost combined with the apparent theft, lack of accountability, and poor service left a lasting impression. I cannot in good conscience recommend All My Sons dba "New City Moving." While the physical labor of the move was well done, the lack of integrity and professionalism by at least one member of the crew completely ruined the experience. If you decide to use this company, I strongly advise keeping your valuables secured, double-checking that all your belongings are loaded, documenting all interactions, and following up on the communication regarding your charges. read more

These guys are wonderful. I originally scheduled a move one weekend and then my elevator broke. I lived on the fifth floor and was worried that the movers wouldn't be able to properly get my things out in a timely fashion so I was able to cancel the day before, free of charge. I didn't even have to reschedule another move yet so I was floored by the wonderful customer service. I was able to reschedule another move with them a week later and the movers were fast, efficient, and very careful with all of my things. They wrapped everything wonderfully and moved out of my apartment in the nick of time. They moved everything except for a sofa because I was going to donate that to the Salvation Army. They ended up quickly dropping off my things at my new place and there were no damages and the movers were all very professional and wonderful people to work with. Unfortunately, when the Salvation Army tried to come pick up my sofa they were completely unprofessional, were unable to move my couch and ended up getting into a verbal sparring match with me. They yelled at me and told me that I hadn't chosen my movers to move my sofa because I didn't want to pay them to move the sofa and that I was just using them for a free service. They moved my couch into the hall and were going to leave it in front of the elevator for me to push all the way back into my apartment. When I realized what was happening I quickly ran downstairs and saw they were getting ready to drive away in their truck, and when I yelled at them they both looked at me then turned the other way and got into the cab. I literally had to jump onto the back of their moving semi and wave my arms so that they would see me in the rearview mirror to get them to stop and do the right thing which was go back upstairs and help me put my couch back into my apartment. Can you believe such an organization could even exist?! They left me with angry tears flowing down my face. I was out of options so I decided to reach out to one of the gentlemen that had helped me move with new city moving. I was able to work out a deal with him and one of his coworkers and they came back and moved the sofa for me (and pushed it to the front door of the Salvation Army which was two blocks away). It was amazing to be taken care of so well and I'll definitely be a repeat customer the next time I move! On another note: screw the Salvation Army; donate to Goodwill instead! read more

This review is Long Over Due. I'm a repeat New City Moving customer and will absolutely continue to be so and here's why. I last used them on August 17, 2013, my original estimate was for $687, and I was on a very tight budget and feared that it Really would take 6 hours to move my huge two bedroom, living room, dining room, bathroom, and kitchen. My worries instantly went away when my moving team showed up, (Richard, Memo, and Cruz) they assured me they would do their best to get me moved as fast, and safely as possible, and they assured me all my stuff would be taken good care of while being moved. They honored their word far beyond that~they moved me out of my apartment and into my Public Storage Unit in Under Two Hours! saving me hundreds! they were absolutely respectful of me and my belongings throughout the whole process, and I was really surprised of how fast they did it because my boxes were super heavy! (note to self, and to others, don't over pack your boxes) They went above and beyond with their impeccable moving services that hot day in August, and they didn't even take a break, in which I would not have blamed them if they did, I had A Lot Of Stuff! there was No complaining what so ever, and I think they were super surprised when they told me they were finished, that I gave them all hugs. Seriously, when you need to move, just let them know upfront what you need~because they give it to you with the best attitude I've ever experienced before! You're in great hands with New City Moving, Inc! I would absolutely refer them to anyone and everyone. And for how they busted their backs moving all my heavy stuff, and I'm quite sure they give that same Awesome service to everyone else, I think their company should reward them with a monthly massage service, they earn and fully deserve something like that. *Special note to Richard, Memo, and Cruz: I will be absolutely requesting all three of you again when I move into my new apartment which will be very soon (I promise that all boxes have been repacked into lighter ones:) and that I also really hope that your company Rewards your hard work with a monthly massage plan~because you three Rock!! New City Moving was recommended by multiple friends, and my husband and I are thrilled with their service. The people I worked with on the phone to set up the initial estimate (and subsequent adjustments on my part as the packing went on and freakin' on) were amazing - friendly, verbally smiley (seriously, you could hear it in their voices), just incredibly helpful. I even called to ask advice on how to pack some weird shelving, and the person I spoke to was patient and knowledgeable. I cannot say enough about the team they sent over - Jakob B, Mike G, and Derrick T. These guys were really fantastic - bad-ass box haulers with a sense of humor, personable, committed to keeping our crap wrapped up and safe, and, most important, fast and efficient. And we put these dudes through the ringer with 80 boxes and some tragically bulky, ugly furniture. Up three flights. In both locations. Total professionals and just great guys, like I want to send them Christmas cards every year. Our estimate was way off base, but that was absolutely our fault in that we grossly underestimated the amount of crap we had to box up, so we went over what was quoted. AGAIN - totally our fault on estimating. I'm sharing this information not because it's a warning about inflated estimates by the company, AT ALL, but as a recommendation to call the company as you pack to keep your estimate accurate. I called TWICE to let them know, "Hey, we're idiots and clearly hoarders, and our box estimation has doubled." Both times, the people on the phone were incredibly helpful and walked me through the potential adjusted cost. There was no mystery, I knew it was going to be more because the people on the phone were awesome, didn't treat me like the moron I am, and were straightforward about the costs. But that's on you to keep it real, I guess, is my advice. Overall, Jakob and co. made it an incredible, low-stress day (moving just deserves its own circle in hell, it sucks). And while I hope to god I never have to move or even hear the squelching of packing tape again in my life, if I did I would absolutely use these guys (and request Jakob and his team, seriously - super sweet guys who can haul five boxes on their backs at once, I had to take ibuprofen just watching them).
