This is a very safe, orderly, well-run storage facility. The location is in a very congested area, but it is very accessible and I found I could almost always use the covered parking bay when I made a point of visiting in off-hours. The units, hallways, and elevators are spotless. I never had a concern about the temperature or humidity inside the building. I appreciated that there was surveillance in all the hallways, given that it is a very large and cavernous place. In the end, the human element is what makes this facility stand out. I dealt mainly with Mario, and he is super-conscientious and pro-actively gave me every bit of information I needed to use this facility confidently, rent an additional unit, and vacate my spaces economically. I highly recommend this outfit if you live on the north side and looking for storage. To my mind, it's a near perfect arrangement for a reasonable price. read more

I would give negative stars if possible. We paid for a climate controlled space for 3 1/2 years, during which time our monthly cost increased by ~50% and at move out we learned that a $2,500 chair and $300 book shelf had been ruined, not by fire, theft, flood or any unforeseen circumstance but by the facilities rusty, dripping pipes that run across the ceiling throughout the property. I reached out to management about our ruined furniture and they take zero responsibility, although it is their building which caused this damage. We were informed that it is our responsibility to file a claim with our home insurance. We were also told that we should have had a tarp over our belongings to protect them, and "the basement temperatures and humidity is hard to control". This clearly indicates that they have had issues in the basement in the past and if this would have been communicated I would have requested a different unit. Additionally, Barbara told me we should have been coming to check on our belongings and if they had been told about the issue they would have fixed it, to which she admitted that the outcome for us would have been the exact same. Barbara claimed that there was no way for them to know about the problem because they are not allowed to enter our units, however, I asked if since they are now aware that we had property ruined, would they be reaching out to the other unit renters around us to inform them of this potential issue and she replied that they would not. Had I realized that I would essentially be paying $3,500+ for almost $3,000 worth of furniture to be ruined, I would have saved myself the money and effort of moving the furniture into the unit and sold the furniture instead. Additionally, as I mentioned, these pipes are visible and run along the entire floor we were on so there is no way that we are the only unit that has had damage to their belongings as a result of these pipes dripping, but they clearly do not care. Their business model is charge a premium but take no ownership or steps to protect your property. There are so many storage rental companies in the area, do yourself a favor and go with another cleaner, better run facility. Overall, I was very disappointed to lose my furniture but even more disappointed with their customer service. read more

I originally thought this storage facility was different, then i had an issue with recurring payments after carefully leaving 1 entire month before my due date, after calling and explaining i was told when i signed up when to be out they would end the contract after the one year, they said it was a mistake by a previous employee that was no longer there. They seemed to fix the problem right away and i left thinking everything was ok, fast forward to today, i received a letter in the mail from a debt collector for $20.33 cents for an un-paid balance, when i called the attorney they hired in Ft Washington Pa. they pretty much told me i ignored all requests from Safeguard for there $20.33, no one ever called or mentioned the balance of $20.33 or i would have paid it, i gladly paid the hard working attorney his money and hopefully saved my 835 credit score. Bottom line, go rent a garage like the old days for much less money and more space, these rental facilities are just like Gym memberships, trickery at it's finest. read more

Customer service at its finest! I've had a storage unit at Safeguard self storage on Clybourn for about 6 months. I arrived yesterday with a 10' moving truck filled to the gills with stuff to put in my storage unit. One of the two drop off lanes was blocked w a dumpster, the other had a car occupying it. Damaris walked through the building in search of the car owner to see how long they would be. A long time. Damaris told us about two young men who could help unload with us. They were fantastic. Then... I realized I didnt have my key fob or correct key to the door to my unit, Damaris to the rescue again. I bought a new fob, new lock and she removed my old one. SUCCESS after a long day of moving. Thanks Damaris! read more

Fantastic! I had amazing customer service when I came here. I'm Not sure what the lady's name is at the front desk but she was amazing. I actually came to this storage place after being super let down from public storage. The facility is extremely clean and I've learned that they clean the facility daily. It's extremely secure--cameras are all around, codes are needed to access your floor of where the storage is located. That is a huge plus to me! I also like how the locks are ingrained in the storage and require a special key. This means that someone can't cut the lock and steal your stuff! The lady actually gave me a break at my storage after I told her the madness that occurred at public storage so I'm sure they are very competitive with price. All in all, check them out! read more

I had such a great experience with this storage business. First of all the phone call I had to set it up was with the most helpful and kind woman. Then once I arrived Alex helped me to pick the right unit for me and guided me through the whole process. She was really an amazing person to work with and it made all the difference. The wonderful customer service really stood out to me. In addition, I appreciated how safe, but easy to access the units were with security cameras, the individual passcodes to enter and the alarm systems. Overall, would recommend this place a lot. The basement is slightly creepy if you have a unit down there, but they do the most to make it better by having happy music playing and automatic lighting. read more

This is probably a 4 star place, but their access garage door was/is broken during a nasty period of cold/icy Chicago winter. Very slippery and uneven surfaces on sidewalk outside to load stuff when garage is not available. Doors can not be propped open and swing shut fast. The carts they offer are sturdy, but do not have locking wheels and the handles pull out when you hit a bump in the uneven/ slanted pavement or pull through outside door. Dangerous loading/unloading situation right now. I will adjust my review after I see garage door working again. How about a minor refund to the renters for not having a feature that we pay for repaired in a reasonable amount of time? Staff is great by the way. Facility super clean too. read more

Online, they had a 5x5 unit for $39, which was well priced, but when I called it turned out that you have to climb a ladder to get to it. Ummm...no. If I didn't want to climb a ladder, the price was $49. I asked if there were any other costs. No. I reserved a unit and received a text confirmation. When I got there (25 minutes away from home), they didn't have my reservation. Hmmm. How did the computer system generate a confirmation number for me then? Don't know. I also learned that you have to buy their lock ($16), their insurance ($9/month), and there's an initiation fee ($22). So, you don't really get the first month fee. They just squeeze you before you've even moved in. Also, very small loading dock (2 cars). I waited over an hour to get inside tonight. Meh. read more

This is a great storage facility. I rented a space on the 2nd floor, and it had very easy access (large elevators, don't have to climb ladders to get into the units, they provided carts that were easy to maneuver, etc.). I visited a couple of different facilities, and this was by far the cleanest, most accessible and very reasonably priced. The staff is also very helpful and friendly. Had a very good experience here, would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a storage unit in the area. read more

Safeguard Self Storage is very helpful. I first booked a reservation online, but accidentally made for the wrong location. They were understanding and refunded my deposit quickly.
