Wow!! I was almost in shock when I had to visit my unit. The place looks so much better!!!! The new guy James is working his legs off!! He is also so helpful & kind. I have a broke tail bone crack and he helped me put a couple boxes in my truck and a smaller computer monitor. The two times I needed help he literally put down what he was doing to help me and another gentleman who was a bit older. He's kind hearted and I was debating if I should empty storage but if he's the new manager who sticks around I'm staying! Congrats ES storage. You have an excellent staff member. I visited Extra Space Storage with a colleague of mine at my internship site. Even though I did not personally deal with the clerk, I did overhear the conversation with my colleague as well as having the opportunity to ask a few questions that would benefit me in the future. The store manager, Dez Medina who is leaving this location introduced us to the new store manager Alfredo who will be taking over. During our time with, Dez, he was very informative of what Extra Space Storage offers as well as miscellaneous questions from myself such as average size storage which is 5 x 5; the largest being 10 x 40, and car storage opportunities, which car storage is gated and costs roughly about $75 monthly. Extra Space Storage has 24-hour code access, surveillance, and building storage which keeps your items at warehouse temperature. In comparison to the previous storage location my site had with Public Storage, this is a huge upgrade I say. And, Extra Space Storage seems more a maintained than Public Storage because I nearly ripped off the door by just lifting it, which was already totally off its hinges. With it being a storage place, the parking lot is very small, but it offers enough parking spots for the amount of people it serves daily. My only complaint is how you enter its location from Cicero because due to the way the road is designed you have to turnaround on W 67th street in order to drive into its lot. What I'm saying is that there is no direct entrance into the lot, other than from W 67th street unless you are driving towards Cicero on W 67th street. Thomas G read more

This place is terrible! I rented a climate controlled unit, and it flooded. The guy came by my unit and took pictures and left. No other documentation? I knew this was a red flag and documented the damaged items myself. Then I got rejected by the cheap insurance they offered. When i brought this to the girl's attention at the front desk she said she was surprised and didn't offer any other help. I asked for a district manager and she said, "He's new and all I know is his name is Matt." Then she said she would call me back with his contact info. That was three weeks ago. SHE NEVER CALLED BACK! Customer service is crap at this place, the units flood easily, and the insurance doesn't cover anything. Here's your warning. Unit flooded TWICE only notified ONCE. I have thrown away $166 a month for years at Extra Space Storage, only to have to throw away the things I paid them to protect. (TLDR: Was notified that my unit flooded last week only to find that my unit had flooded MONTHS AGO without the facility staff noticing. BLACK MOLD is now all over my things. They refuse to refund/discount my rent and say they're not liable.) ----- I was called on SATURDAY at 3:30pm (2 hours before closing) that my unit had flooded on THURSDAY. They waited 2 days to notify me and then gave me 2 hours to drive and view the damage. (Note: they are closed on Sunday and did not offer to extend hours to assist flood-impacted customers.) When I got to the facility the doors were locked because they only had one person working and he was busy at another customer's unit. Once I was helped, it was obvious that the employee was exhausted. I was given no assistance with my things and had to haul out my furniture and sort through the damage myself (the employee only took photos of the damage at my request). While assessing the damage, I noticed that my books were covered in BLACK MOLD (not something that happens after 2 days of water damage). There had been a PREVIOUS FLOOD that I was never made aware of. By the looks of the damage, the earlier flood likely occurred MONTHS ago. I was upset. The exhausted employee stood silently with little to no response (it was clear he just wanted to go home). I began moving my furniture back in by myself, the employee offering (again) no assistance. I do not blame the employee - I blame the company for staffing the office with ONE person during an emergency/high volume/stressful situation. During my 5 years here, ANY time my debit card expired and my auto-pay didn't go through, they notified me IMMEDIATELY. Any time they raised my rates, I got a notice and they raised my rates IMMEDIATELY (my rates have practically doubled). They're GREAT at billing! Almost TOO GOOD! The one thing they're NOT GREAT at is safely storing things and notifying customers in a timely manner if there is an emergency. After voicing my complaints to the employee, I was told that I would be called by the manager. I did not receive a call by Monday so I called and left a message. When the manager returned my call on Tuesday, I asked to be refunded for the months rent I paid for a service that they did not provide (i.e., protecting my things). The manager recited a clause in the lease and said they were not liable. She directed me to call the insurance company to submit a claim. I restated that I was not requesting her to reimburse me for damages but to refund my past months' RENT since I was not provided the service I paid for. She just kept reciting that they weren't liable and said she'd speak to her manager and would call me back. She called back but just restated what she said earlier: not liable, nothing could be refunded. The manager insisted that they did not know about the previous flood (and the employee suggested that the leaks came from above). So, at this facility your unit can get flooded without them noticing/notifying you. And if the leaks did come from above, that suggests they don't have their roofs maintained and inspected regularly. In summary, this facility spares EVERY expense when it comes to keeping your things safe (minimal staffing, minimal facility maintenance). But they ensure their customers spare NO EXPENSE on rent (constant rate hikes, no refunds/discounts if they fail to keep your things safe). My things are currently sitting in Extra Space Storage rotting for $166 a month. (After all this, they didn't offer a free month's rent or even a small discount. NOTHING.) read more

Horrible place, I can't believe that what they do is legal. They raise your rent every 4 months or so, place smells stale and after a while your stuff starts smelling like moldy basement too. My stuff started growing a layer of mold and when I brought it to their attention they shrugged it off and said it's out of their control. The place is under renovation so lately accessing my unit is very inconvenient. They currently have a dumpster sitting in the bay that is supposed to be used by customers to unload. The employees are friendly but the service is horrible. No such thing as corporate, when I've tried calling corporate it's sounds like it's a call center that's been outsourced and they just transfer you to your facility to talk to manager. The units in the back of the building flood when it rains and the units in the front....it's very difficult to get in to the parking lot. You have break like 5 traffic laws just to get into it. When I was looking to move out from my home within a week, and I had nearly my whole apartment to store, I did what anyone should do and called multiple nearby storage facilities to shop for price and facility care. Extra Space Storage in Bedford Park met and even exceeded my expectations! Right off the bat I received courteous and energetic customer service from building manager Amanda Onusaitis! She was knowledgeable, helpful, and hands down got me the best deal on my storage unit! The unit was clean and my personal favorite part of it was the wire mesh ceiling! Honestly, when you have a couch you're not sure is going to make the clearing when you need to stand it up to allow for more things, you'll be grateful you have a storage unit that has a ceiling with some play to it! The indoor unloading dock was especially helpful when we had to move on an icy, snowy, and cold winter day. Real talk folks, Extra Space Storage is the best value for your buck. Uhaul, Public Storage, Metropolitan Storage, etc., they all paled in comparison! Use them for your next big move! I know I will! read more

I have been renting a unit from Extra Space Storage in Bedford Park (Off 67th & Cicero) for a little over a year now. I rent a 5X5 there. It's small. It's about the size of a large closet. When I first rented the unit the monthly rental charge was $19 per month. What they don't tell you online is that they make you pay for their insurance for your unit. That is an extra $10 per month on top on your rent. They say you can use your own insurance if you wish, such as going threw homeowners insurance but they say it has to have coverage for at least $20,000 or something like that and they want papers faxed from insurance company. So it seems like less of a hassle to just bite the bullet and pay the $10 EXTRA per month. So my $19 per month rent is actually $29 per month...That was in the beginning!! Like I said earlier, I've been there a little over a year and in that time my rates have been raised at least 4 times!! It started at $19 now it's up to $32!! So that's actually $42 per month now in 1 year! I'm giving this place 2 stars because the on site manager (Erin) is very nice and professional and I've never had any problems accessing the place. read more

I have been a customer of Extra Space Storage for a little over two years now, recently due to the frigid temperatures in the Chicagoland area a sprinkler pipe burst near my space. The first person to contact me regarding the issue was Rachel, she was very polite and friendly, explained what happen and told me I should come in and take a look at my space and offered to place me in a new unit while repair work was done. I explained to her that I live out of state and would not be in town until early Spring. She offered a solution which worked for both of us, I was able to stop in an Extra Space Storage near my new home to finalize permissions. In the end everything worked out for the best. Rachel and Mandy kept me informed of what was going on a followed thru to the very last step. The customer service was amazing. read more
