Terrific storage facility with very helpful staff, from the people at the national call centre to the manager at the Kedzie facility, Tammy (who has a nice line in humour) and her very capable and helpful colleagues who all have gone out of their way to help me - even when I popped in with only ten minutes to go before they were closing their office one time. This facility is kept more like a hotel than a storage facility, and I've seen a pretty good assortment of storage spaces over the years. 2 stars because all my clothes smell like urine. It looks clean but it's not temperature controlled and whatever other customers have in storage will fester. I had variety of belongings in there from mid September to end of July. You will have to rewash everything cloth. I just laundered my throw pillows and blankets. I also had stuff at Uhaul just a few feet south of this storage and nothing came out smelly there. Thank goodness I didn't put couches and mattresses here. Most customers have hardware in their storage. Avoid anything cloth. read more

I am only wondering, why there was/is not a written word about any regular 6-8Months rises!? Just by last payment in person at the Safegard facility I was told that for the next payment rise of $8,- will be implemented. When asking why and who, there was no answer at all. This facility is useful so far but it seems they push me to move out or else. Any negotiation to find out any solution with the Manager of the facility and the Regional Manager/Illinois/ brought nothing. read more

wish I could give 0 stars Hi everyone! I'm hear to give a warning about storage unit places. DO NOT USE THE LOCK UP SELF STORAGE! I moved out August 1 and within a week I had called and said that I was moved out and who ever I talked to said it was all good and they would take care of it. September 1st comes and I was charged again so I called and they said they would refund me. October 1st comes and I GOT CHARGED AGAIN. I have been calling the company EVERYDAY now trying to get ahold of the people who can assist me with my problem. The issue is still not resolved and it's been almost a week of me calling at least once a day. I have also had to cancel my debit card and go without one for a week now also so they can't try and charge me anymore. Please for you sanity do not use The Lock Up self storage. read more

Got an email a few days ago saying my unit rent was going up. I've lived in 9 states and have used many storage facilities and I've never had a rent increase. That seems pretty savage especially during a pandemic. Very disappointed with this place. read more

I used this facility as temporary storage between housing. The staff couldn't have been nicer from day one till we moved out yesterday. Check in was simplified as I had called the day before i needed to move in. Yesterday, the lady on duty at checkout was also very pleasant and i offered to write this review because she was so nice. If i need to ever use storage again, i'd go back because they are so accommodating and thoughtful and fair. read more

Bad experience - bait-and-switch from advertised price (and written price confirmation) to what you really get here. Website quotes a monthly price for space, plus a $24 one-time admin fee. The site also offers 50 percent off for first three months for new customers. When I got there, they said that the rate listed online is already 50 percent off , so no half off for three months. Okay, I can live with that. Then, surprise! They charge an additional $3/month for utilities, and $9/month for insurance. Uhhh, okay, I can still do that. Then, when you ask how long the price remains in place, SURPRISE! It's good for three months, after which it doubles. Does this always happen, I asked? Yes, I was told. No, thank you! Ripoff! I had looked into a storage unit with this location and planned my Friday around multiple appointments including going to the location to pay, pick up keys and see where my storage unit would be located. After speaking with multiple people over days they waited until after 9am on a Friday, obviously while I was at work, to inform me that they were closing the location early at 1pm! Saturday was the day I have the moving truck coming to my house along with people to help pack and move, I knew I wouldn't have time to get there early the day of. I'm willing to believe there was a misunderstanding when I spoke with the representatives over the phone and I didn't realize they closed at 4 not 5pm on a Saturday. I called to check what I needed to have with me when I took the key for the unit and was told they closed at 4, it was almost 10 till 4 at that time. I am very close to the location and asked if they could wait for me in case I arrived a few minutes after late. Instead of looking to help me the person on the phone was more concerned with making sure they left at 4pm on the dot so she wasted 10 minutes with me on the phone explaining all the reasons why it wouldn't work for me to get there at that time. I spent the majority of that time finding solutions to all the 'problems' she was presenting but she still kept wasting time. Until finally she said ok if you can make it before 4 we'll process you, it was 4 minutes to 4 by that time. She achieved her goal of not having the last minute customer. As Kimberly V. stated the price had changed from what I was initially shown online once I spoke to someone on the phone. She also pointed out UHaul is right next door so and I am getting the first month free, obviously a better deal all around. They were very friendly and helpful!!! Completely opposite experience, in the end I'm glad they threw my business away because I ended up with a better deal. They definitely need some lessons in customer service, the customer is NOT supposed to be the one problem solving during your hours of operation for a possible scenario. Incidentally I left my house right after hanging up with the Lock up rep and made it to the Uhaul next to them in 10 minutes, so I wouldn't even have gotten late after all. They just didn't want to help a customer - BEWARE they mentally 'close' 15 minutes before they're actually closed. read more

Ever since the new management came in after Tammy, all its been issues after issues. I been using this same location because it's very convenient but that may come to a near end. How is it that we are paying for light and do not have any light in our units! How is it that the plowing company that they are using is allowed to plow snow and pile it against the doors and not remove it leaving us to have to shovel our way into our storage units. The Lock Up on North Kedzie is second to none on customer service. I have been dealing with John and the staff there for almost 10 years now. They are accountable, professional and extremely easy to work with. The units are clean, secure and the grounds are well maintained. I couldn't have been more pleased with Consuelo the manager at the desk that helped me. She was friendly, professional, kind and very clear about all the details regarding my unit. This place sucks. They claim you can use their moving van but when I moved into my storage unit last year they told me I couldn't use it because the van was only to be used for moving out while on the premises for CURRENT customers. Ok fine. Now I'm moving out and they tell me I can't use the van because it's only for new customers moving into the storage spaces. The front desk lady kept telling me, "well I wasn't there when you signed up." Yes I know that!! Expensive for a piece of crap establishment. Use other locations or better yet, another company right new door. read more

I just had the WORST costumer service ever I've been looking for a storage units for my baby's stuff I called & set up a reservation to move in at the end of the month. I received a phone call back from the site manage saying they can't give me that online price because I'm listed on my mothers unit as someone who can enter her unit so I'm not a new costumer. I don't understand how they can do that and I'm very upset. On top of that my mother is paying $200 more then the online price. She tells me when she goes to her unit she sees rat and mice poop. The units are decent and temp controlled if your inside. My only issue is with the staff. After signing up for the unit, we had to go back in SEVERAL times to give them a copy of the same paper over and over showing our proof of insurance coverage so we can deny the insurance required by The Lockup. After that, we never received a bill or paperwork letting us know when our first payment would be due. (We signed up with a special and had, what I thought was, 3 months paid for in advance.) Turns out it wasn't 3 months and I received a phone call stating our bill was passed due and needed to be paid immediately. I requested a copy of the bill since I had not gotten one and when I got it, there were multiple late fees added on. There was the late fee and an "over lock fee". When I questioned the charges I was told that the over lock fee is a charge for the additional lock they added to my unit to prevent me from accessing it until I paid the bill. I stated once again that I had not received a bill until I requested one and I got a very short response of "all bills are due on the 1st of them month." How would I know that if I didn't sign up on the 1st of a month and didn't receive paperwork or a bill? I've rented units from other storage places and after this experience with the staff, I will stick to those other facilities in the future. Not professional at all compared to other places I've been. My advice, look elsewhere. read more

This is a fantastic storage facility. I recently transferred here form another facility and must say that the staff (Tammy and Michelle) are two of the most helpful storage staff members you could want at your place of storage. They're quick to help and hold customer satisfaction as a top priority. I regularly stop is to grab free coffee and smile from either Tammy or Michelle when picking up things from my unit. If Yelp offered more than 5 Stars, I would give them the rating. Thanks for great management and your wonderful facility! read more

Up date from my lock up experience,I talked to a regonal manager from the lock up a miss sherri handled my issue, She was very nice and took care of my issue,it turns out that the lock up that im at now they did not measure the storage space so it was not a bate and switch,just a honest mistake. so I still have loyalty towards the lock up company as a hole. read more

We had to get a storage place in a rush due to the death of a family member, we need someplace to put all her items from her apartment. I worked with Ms. Tammy. I have been renting space here for over ten years and couldn't be happier. Tammy and Cynthia who manage the office have been fantastic to work with and and are always quick to help when I needed other storage space or have questions. Lots of different size storage areas from small to big drive up units here -which makes unloading and loading very easy when you can drive right up to your unit. This place is really well run and nice and secure. If you need storage space on the north side this is the place to go! read more

Avondale location:INFESTED WITH RATS AND MICE!!!!!!! So much for a indoor, climate controlled facility. Our personal belongings were covered in urine and feces. They let you use a truck for free to move in, and won't let you use it to move out. They use harmful rodent bait that is dangerous to pregnant women and children. Great to know, after the fact my child's clothes and toys were stored there. Management offered no resolution and acted as if this was a common occurrence. DO NOT store important household items here!!! The driveways are covered with screws and nails from contractors who use the facility. After I observed my belongings covered in rodent feces I noticed all the nails and screws in the driveway. Got a flat 2 blocks away. What a day! read more

Jovany was incredibly helpful, prompt, and thoughtful when I rolled in at 9am and had a meager 2.5 hours to unload my entire moving truck. He showed my the unit before I moved in (and showed me a couple others at my request), and readily allowed me to switch units to one marginally closer to the elevator. When I was questioning whether a 5'x5' was big enough, he was even willing to still give me the discount that I'd found when signing up online if I was going to switch to a larger unit (I didn't, and the 5'x5' totally held all my stuff). The check-in process took a total of about 30 minutes, including him helping another customer, but he clearly was moving everything along as quickly as possible. There were multiple large dollies available that made unloading easy (and are the only reason I didn't end up paying for an extra day on my rental truck), the space was clean and bright, and everything went more smoothly than I could have possibly imagined. When I found that one of my boxes had gotten wet on the bottom (in the truck, not at the facility), he was incredibly accommodating in helping me choose from the available options they had for sale to find the cheapest/best fit, and even put the box together for me just to be nice and helpful. Totally not part of his job. The price was the cheapest around by FAR, but I don't feel like there are any amenities that I'm missing out on, or that I would get better service for more money. We'll see if I feel the same when I go to pick my things up, but I feel confident that they're just fine. My only complaint was that the 5'x5' units are not actually square - there is a pillar located in the corner of each unit that's about 1'x1' square. I was still able to fit my things without an issue, but when I was worried about space it was definitely a frustrating discovery. read more

I would highly recommend this storage facility. I found the staff very helpful and it was easy to obtain a storage unit. They provided me a free truck to use to move my contents. I spent several days a week for many hours sorting through my 30 years of teaching materials. I always felt safe and secure when I was in the storage facility property. Our company rents several outdoor storage units from this location and have for about 2 years now. The place is always clean and secure. Snow is removed quickly in the winter and something as simple as outdoor lights are always functional. John, the property manager has always bent over backwards to help us out with anything we need and runs a tight ship. He knows and greets everybody that rents at the location which is awesome. Very bad service. Walked in there to get rates and the bitch was very rude n did not get up. When I asked her if they price match their prices from online she laughed n didn't answer.
